Never missed it, plus I don't obsess over this stuff, mostly because I see how bad it makes people look and how so many feel and comment off the forum about excessive hatred to the point they think it's not healthy. But this is not any problem of mine. I didn't vote for our last president, did I hold a hatred all during his term and complain, of course not I hoped he would make a difference in a good way, and complaining about something you can not change is silly, bias yes to do what your hired to do, as best you can, not an individual but a position.

When my work sent me to small town in Michigan for a few years, I was downtown and asked someone (seriously) where downtown was. They said, “This is downtown." Coming from Los Angeles, I knew that i was in for a different way of life. Went to the grocery store to stock up when we first moved in. Got to the checkout and had over a hundred bucks worth of stuff (30 years ago prices), the wife didn’t have any checks in her checkbook. I was embarrassed and said that i’d run to an ATM -- the cashier said, “No, that’s okay. Bring us the money tomorrow.” I was shocked and said, “No, i’ll go to an ATM now if that’s okay."

BigStewMan
@grasshopper You always live in small towns? To a degree, i think we’re a product of our environment. I was spoiled lived most of my adult life by the beach in SoCal. Los Angeles was just a short ... well long drive depending on the time of day .... to sporting events, concerts, whatever you want. The OC had all that stuff too. Great weather, great places to eat and more choices than a person needs. I got used to all that, now you take me away from that and i don’t feel comfortable. I did move last year to a larger town, close to an even larger town .... not LA big though. You know what i miss the most (besides the kids and grandkids) is the beautiful weather ... took that warm weather for granted.

Most everything that i’m interested in was readily available. Deep sea fishing, football, baseball, basketball, concerts, amusement parks, all kinds of good places to eat all a short drive away -- and the weather is great most of the time. I saw the ocean everyday and not a lot of people get to do that (granted some aren’t thrilled by it, but i always liked the ocean). And i met some really great people while living there. I guess it means ... i really loved it.

Beach, farms, desert, mountains all within a 90-minute drive. very expensive place to live and i don’t miss those prices; but i miss most everything else. I don’t feel any more safe living away from there than i did when i was there -- probably feel less safe now since i was more familiar with that area. There are things that i only did when guests would come from other parts of the country ... like go sit in the audience of Jay Leno’s Tonight Show. I enjoyed taking people to places that they’d only read about or seen on television. Hollywood Blvd, Santa Monica Pier, etc... Had a friend from the midwest visit once and he brought a list that he and his wife made of all these places to eat that they’d seen on Food Network shows. I took them to all those places. Oh yeah, and Vegas was only a five hour drive away -- but there are several Indian casinos about an hour or so drive.
