they pick on individuals they perceive to be inferior and weak

Or at least individuals they perceive to be weak.

isn't that what I said? :P

What I wrote is part of what you said.  It's possible for a bully to pick on someone they perceive to be superior -- in some way -- and weak, like the straight A student who appears weak being beaten up by someone who is not doing well in school.  I think the perception of weakness is a powerful variable.  :)

for what it's worth, i think this forum would be horribly boring and 1-dimensional if we never approached these "off-topic" topics. Audio might be the bricks, but these tid-bits of insight into each other's lives and perspectives are most certainly the mortar.

Which leaves lots of room for misinterpretations along with the flow.

I hope I did not Hi-Jack this thread,  That was not my intent.   John

Great post, but your Avatar makes me a little nervous. How about a Khorn photo instead?

I placed my avatar as knee jerk reflection to a jerk who could not agree with most of the people on a thread.

If it helps you to feel better, I have never pointed a gun at anyone.  Nor have I threatened anyone with a firearm.

The avatar is actually a collectors item.

I collected firearms before I started collecting stereo equip.

No need to be nervous about my avatar.  I'm not the violent type.

When I went to Psych unit it was voluntary.  I made the 75 mile drive on my own decision.  It was a wise choice

I can see everyones point here, but its easy to over simplify matters. Bullying, the threats, etc. yeah they were all there long before any of us. However, now everything is public with all the social media crap with kids. Its not just a few words among a few, its the whole school at least being aware of the ridicule and the victim catching it from all angles. Things are different now whether you like it or not. Also, the internet can be very evil for mischievous kids. You can basically get anything you want off of it when it comes to various things that no one she be interested in, let alone a kid. As far as video games go, I definitely think they are far too violent, far too realistic and far too accessible. ANY parent thinking oh, this is a great mercenary game for my kid needs to come back to reality a bit. Usually the kids playing these games also have a Dad that partakes as well. Thats fine and dandy, its America.  Kids need to put the controller down, pick up a football, basketball, baseball, fishing pole or climb on a dang bicycle or in a tree.  Parents don't raise kids anymore even though they think they are.

On a lighter note, here's a video from a few years back.  Supposedly, the two bullies had a girlfriend recording their activities so they could watch them later for amusement.

When they saw a couple walking their direction, one bully backhands the girl across the face.  Her boyfriend, a trained boxer, responds instantly.

Nobody got really hurt, but two bullies hopefully learned a lesson.

I know what it is like to be bullied (being special needs and physically challenged). I also know what it is like to own bullies and thugs. Once I get them unbalanced and I go spazz, they go down. Major lesson from me, mugger or bully does not want to be on the other end of the spasm. Me nor they know where we will wind up. I have destroyed leg press machines by spasm. With 120 pounds on it.

Too many violent video games as kids.

I witnessed the tail end of this same exact thing back in 1990 while I was a freshman in high school.  I was down in Key West and in front of the Margaritaville Cafe, (which was MUCH different back then but that's another story) there was two Hispanic guys from rival gangs that met and instantly got into a scuffle.  One punch and one guy fell backwards, hitting the base of his head on the edge of a curve.  They flew him to a hospital in Miami and he died a couple days later.

As for bullying in general, in that same year a guy on my football team thought he would pick on me a little.  Punched me in the face right in the middle of class while sitting at our desks waiting for the .  I told him to meet me outside and got up and left.  I went out and waited for him.  He came out of the door and instantly charged me.  A right haymaker stopped him in his tracks.  I went over to him and hit him a couple more times, spinning him up against a brick wall, in which I grabbed the hair on the back of his head and slammed his face up against the wall several times.  Blood was friggin everywhere, all he could do was hold his face and walk around in a disoriented state, until a teacher escorted him away.  Looking back, I think that moment ruined his life, he never was the same after that, turned into a hermit of sorts, really sad looking.

About a year later I witnessed an extremely shy classmate get picked on, he kept trying to brush it off but it came to a head one day and he lit in to the guy, knocked him flat on the ground, hard enough that all he could do was kind of roll over and get on all fours like on his knees and hands, couldn't get up any further.  Yet, he was still running his mouth as my friend walked away.  He had had enough, and took off running from about 10 yards away and kicked the guy's face like it was a football.  It was nuts.

Too much Modern Warfare playing I guess.   ;)  The most violent game we had back then was the original Super Mario Brothers so I have a hard time blaming any fist fights on games.

:)  That's interesting.  I compete in 3-gun and USPSA competitions, most all my social media feeds are just non-stop full of guns, I have several friends on the pro tours so it's pretty common.  I don't think anything of it whatsoever.  The guys who make me nervous are definitely NOT the ones who are open about their firearm hobbies.  It's the quiet guys who are awkward with girls, have horrible handwriting, and draw fantasy scenes at inappropriate times that scare me.
