My circus music got attention at Hope...

That one had reed stops as well.  This one is reeds only.  I just learned their are reed organs with 32' reeds.  Not remotely as large as 32' pipes but sound at the same C0 of 16.5hz.  Not sure I'd care to try to foot pump that...but they did.

I understand that playing these things is very physically demanding.

I like that a lot better than the calliope music.

HERE HERE! And at least this music could hold my attention through the entire piece instead of being an annoyance! (Your persona is still liked though Dave!

I must say that the video portion of this also helped hold my interest :)

Yes, actually it did get a lot of attention.....Mike and dtel and Carl were plotting on how to spirit you away, take you out back and whoop you within an inch of your chinny chin chin, but then Kevin cranked the stacks, and that plan went out the window....maybe next year....

Official Thread Drift:

How did this one get by you, Dave?

With restoration, historic pipe organ will make Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall sing out loud

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – It’s described as the largest musical instrument in the world, yet an audience can barely see it.

The historic organ at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City boasts more than 33,000 pipes, all concealed behind the walls of the cavernous auditorium best known for hosting the Miss America pageant. But the sound is robust — even while operating at only 25 per cent of its capacity.

“I tell people it’s sort of like a race car running on two cylinders right now,” said staff organist Steven Ball. “It’s also terrifying how powerful it is — even just a quarter of it. So I can’t imagine what half of it is going to do.”

He hopes to find out soon. The non-profit Historic Organ Restoration Committee, which has been refurbishing the hidden gem, plans to have it functioning at 50 per cent by the summer, when hundreds of organ aficionados expect to visit.

The 150-ton instrument, built by the Midmer-Losh Co., hasn’t been fully operational since 1944, when the Great Atlantic Hurricane swept through the seaside resort, causing flooding that ruined mechanical equipment.

Dave, the reed organ was nice. Years ago I was in a very small Presbyterian church in Brookfield, Wisconsin. The congregation had dwindled to around ten or fifteen people, so they rented the upstairs of the huge building to some charismatics while they met in a living room sized space in the basement.

The pastor's wife played a small reed organ for us. Thinking back, it probably could have used a bit of restoration, but it still was lovely and served the church well.

Bruce, I'd been thinking about that.  Many of these instruments still go wanting, and even fully restored cost much less than nasty Allens and Rodgers, etc.  I think they've simply been overlooked by small congregations.  If some of the restorers and enthusiasts would direct themselves towards marketing to churches we might see a "vinyl" level resurgence in their use.  There are a great many fine YouTube recordings of them doing wonderful things in expert hands.

Besides the low cost, the maintenance is minimal compared even to an electronic...and a 32' reed doesn't take up much room but still speaks at C0!

I have one in my garage that will be going to Texarkana with me as a restoration project.  I am lucky in knowing a local guy there with expertise.  I've had it over a decade but didn't have the time to mess with it until now.  Should be fun...it will probably wind up in the Regional Music Heritage Center.

So, now it's organ porn?

Actually, there were a few, well, maybe two of us who appreciated and somewhat enjoyed the disc, Dave. There were_ symptoms of aggression rippling through the crowd.

BTW, Dave, when do you start making small batch?
