maybe talk to your Dr about a shot.

Must of gotten at least 20 shots while in the hospital some even in my stomach, blood pressure and temperature checked about every 3 hours even though it was always good.pills galore Tamiflu, Potassium supplements and others. electrical cables and monitors all over my chest at all times, IV in one hand and always on several different oxygen masks that were as uncomfortable as can be, two kat scans, x rays every morning about 4 AM, weighed every morning at about 6 AM they must have taken about 1/2 a quart of blood from me everyday though none was ever put back in. Nurses or doctors doing something to me about every 2 hrs. Absolutely NO SLEEP. Only good thing I had about 30 very cute & sexy little nurses all in their 20's while I as in the hospital. I had to ask and be escorted to the bathroom every time.

I believe you are missing the point (get it). :)  If you'd gotten a preventative Flu Shot early in the Fall of 2015 you would not have got the flu this year. If you had not got the flu you would not have had this very subject to post here.

I learned I was not actually immortal at age 29, my father found out he was not immortal at 91. Guess who was the most surprised?

Once you'd had a single serious bout of pneumonia, especially double pneumonia, you are at a higher risk of future reoccurence.

I have never had the flu shot but my sister got it one year and almost immediately got the worst case of the flu she'd ever had. I can't remember the last time I had a bad case of the flu and I sure have never had pneumonia before. I am not one to really get sick much and when I have it's never been all that bad, before this.

My mother died at 86, my father at 91, he was 10 years older than her. Dad was an engineer at North American Rockwell he was very involved in NASA and helped to put the first Nasa rocket in the air as well as the first and last man on the moon and yes to the doubters we really did put men on the moon. My dad was very proud of his work with NASA. As a kid I got to see much of Nasa's space program up close. My oldest brother was a big part of the space shuttle program, he's 75 now.

Glad you're OK. I had a lymph node removed at 58. Dumb *** surgeon didn't put a drain in. Went to the ER 3 times to have fluid drained. Ended up in sepsis and spent a week in the hospital. I actually didn't think I was going to make it between the house and the hospital.

Yeah doctors kept asking if they would be allowed to do whatever it takes to keep me alive if necessary. I told them I didn't want to be kept alive by a machine, the doctors didn't like that answer. I told them I did not think it would come to that but I wanted to die before being just kept alive. Doctors wanted permission to do whatever they wanted no matter the quality of my life.

You cannot get the flu from an in-activated virus (a flu vaccine). If you sister was sick with the flu (i.e. same strain) after getting a flu shot she was in already in process of getting sick before the vaccine took effect (i.e. less than 14 days post vaccine). She also cannot get pregnant from a public restroom's toilet seat.  :)

You might want to compare notes with her to give her some understanding of just how ill you can really get from a seasonal flu virus.

Closest I have ever come to dying, March 14th I went home from work after 2 hours not feeling well. Turned out I had the flu and worst I've ever had it, the flu turned into pneumonia and put me in the hospital for 8 days March 24th through April 1st. I was on oxygen and in sad shape, I spent a week after that at my sister's while she took great care of me feeding me and keeping me off my feet and well taken care of. Now back home as of yesterday April 7th, still a little weak but feeling stronger everyday.

I have never been one to be sick, I don't think I have been in the hospital since I was born other than to visit others. I just turned 58 on March 8th, I still act and have felt more like 40 or even younger.

This really sucked!

This is me still a long haired hippy :)

Wow sorry to hear of your battle with pneumonia. I know all to well how hard it is to recover. We must be living in parallel lives. I am still recovering from the exact same problem. I was in the hospital from March 7 through the 14th. To get them to discharge me I had to agree to oxygen at home.

I had no idea pneumonia was so life threatening to a otherwise healthy individual.

Take care Craig

My dad was a chemist and worked at NASA at that time. He worked in the lab, where his team's mission was to study the effects of radiation and to try to find cures for radiation sickness.  They irradiated rabbits, rats and monkeys.  All of the animals invariably developed leukemia.  They tried marrow transplants among other approaches.  Nothing ever worked.
