richieb
NY Times and CNN confirms. I always likened his talents and and in general, musicality, with JJ Cale. Both great song writers and musicians. For many years we used to boat at Grand Lake in NE Oklahoma, Leon's old stomping ground. Actually came face to face with him in Grove, OK at small restaurant. He was leaving, we were heading in. It's like you're kinda stunned but you can't mistake him. Nodded heads, both said hey and that was that. Still kinda cool ---
HDBRbuilder
I saw the "Leon Russell Show" right after he came out with the "Carney" album...it was a fantastic concert! The last time I saw him in concert was in late 1970's or early 1980's when he toured together with Willie Nelson...another fantastic show! A great songwriter and showman! RIP! joshnich
I'm sure most of the Leon Russell fans know this but for those who may be new to his music....he was a member of the famous wrecking crew. The group of studio musicians that played on most of the Phil Spector recordings as well as many others. Leon Russell played on The Beach Boys pet sounds lp as well as with the Beatles , Sinatra and many many others. I saw him a couple of times live. The most notable for me was In Reno at Harrahs casino when he backed up Willie Nelson. In the band that night was also another legend , Merle Haggard on the Telecaster. An unbelievable show. One of the best in my memory yes RIP indeed Mr Russell.
staygroovybaby
Lets not forget the concert for Bangladesh. The man was a musical genius. We are loosing many greats. This is a road we are heading down. Our time will come, Life is short, lets enjoy while we can & maybe pass on some of the music from the great ones. Russell, Bowie, Harrison, Lennon, and the list goes on. Music has changed over the years and like everything it has become to commercial ( money grubbing ) The greats will live on, but we need to keep it alive. Hey, Hey My, My. Moderators Travis In Austin Posted November 19, 2016 Moderators Share Posted November 19, 2016 He was a big Klipsch fan. The Historian has photos, somewhere, with Leon and Klipsch speakers. The last time he was in town. I got him to sign a few things for the Museum to do something with, not sure what yet. I will try and post some pictures at some point.
billybob
Saw him and daughters in the band in a local venue called the Moon in 2005. Played some famous hits. Went backstage and met his daughters and had a good time. Hank Wilson album one of my favorites he did: Well I got time for one more round and a, six-pack to go...RIP Leon...
