It's the coldest forecasted high of anywhere in Minnesota and we're in west central MN. It usually gets a lot colder in northern MN. Quote

Indianapolis Intl Airport reports -11 air temp which is a record for the date. All is good here but hearing of all the power outages on the local news is disturbing. Be safe everyone. Quote
JJkizak Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 The wind chill is another thing the weather people are flogging to death. The chill index started out (in Antartica) as a measurement of temperature/wind speed on exposed flesh to determine how much time is involved before the flesh freezes. The USA Air Force used a chicken later on (Can't remember if it was alive or dead) for a subject. In the old days everybody just said it was cold and doubled up on clothing. The Eskimos (supposedly) invented the parka with a fur lined hood which closed around the face to create a warm air pocket to prevent the eyes from freezing in -50F weather. American workers in this kind of weather were limited and timed to how long they were exposed. (maybe not enforced) Not sure if they invented "Iron Pants". The weather people also fail to mention that if you have a sore or cut on your exposed flesh that it is the first thing that freezes. And mittens instead of fingered gloves. Quote
