CECAA850
I, for one, am glad that's finally settled.
Coytee
In high school, early college, I once dated (in consecutive order, without knowing this until it was hindsight) A girl named Janine Kay, blonde hair, blue eyes Melanie Kay, blonde hair, blue eyes Sandy Kay, blonde hair, blue eyes Lisa Kay, blonde hair, blue eyes After college, I was working at a place and had 20 people I was supervising. One of them was a flat out stunning bombshell... Her name was Cindy.... she had blonde hair, blue eyes. I once walked up to her and asked... "is your middle name by any chance Kay? " She looked at me with a beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes and said "no it isn't...why?" I said..."oh... just curious" we never dated []
sputnik
Back in first grade, I had a girlfriend named Kay. She was also blonde and from East Germany. When she joined our class in the middle of the year, our teacher said she was from "behind the Iron Curtain." I didn't know what that meant but I was intrigued. JJkizak
A Betamx player is about the only thing I don't have. But I have a Beta SP player. Even an 8 track player. JJK
picky
We had a Super Beta HiFi model and a VHS HiFi model: The Beta's picture was definitely betta...um, er, better.

sputnik
They say it was a bad marketing strategy but what killed BETA was the porn industry standardizing to VHS. I never get tired of watching "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Porkys" but it's too bad there's not much else to be found at the Salvation Army. jacksonbart
I used to like candy corn as a kid, but now not so much. I wonder why?

I thought Sony was too slow to market a longer record play time, so VHS got the movie market and more with the SLP mode.

Mallette
I still have an 850 and it looks almost as good as DVD, and better than LaserDisc ever did. Still frame is rock solid, almost like a frame store. BetaMax was the first real hifi audio recorder that delivered quality equivalent to high end reel to reel. Sony overlooked that aspect entirely and, yes, the failure to both market agressively and move to longer record time killed it. Then, as now, Joe Sixpack didn't care about quality, just MORE. It's tape path was far simpler and more reliable than VHS. That is probably why my 850 still works fine after 23 years and I have no idea how many VHS decks I've used up and trashed in the same time period. Glad they are both DEAD. Gilbert
Might be a bit late but it's still a valid point Uhh? Yea. But what's your point in bringing it up 15yrs. after the fact? Maybe the hidden dangers of being propritary?
Marvel
But what's your point in bringing it up 15yrs. after the fact? Maybe the hidden dangers of being propritary? Except other manufacturers made Betamax equipment. Yes, they had to license it, but Sony wasn't the only company making it.
