  7. I haven't read through the whole thread but in a nutshell, you need a calibrated mic external soundcard and software to measure. Then it is just setting up the software.

  10. As far as I know you are going to need a different Mic set-up for the delay. If you want to set the crossovers refer to one of the last post. It's not perfect but it works. Then you can run audyssey and see how it sounds. Going through the long detailed steps is for optimal sound.

  11. So the hopper on this thing is 18 lbs. Estimated pellet consumption is 1 lb per hour at 300 F. so cooking all night is not a problem as that is approx 18 hrs worth of pellets. The other evening I put two 10 lb Boston Botts on at 6 pm. The next morning at approx 6 am I checked them and they were at 190 F internal meat temp. (I usually like to go to 200 F internal meat temp). I use two variants of the pellets. One is 100% hickory wood and the other is 75% oak/ 25% hickory. Both are 100% hardwood fuel.

  13. Hi everyone! I admit it. I've missed my kids subjects cats-to-herd friends. I hope all is well -- I haven't been looking at the forums much lately. So busy! Being involved in a start up company is a crazy experience. There's so many little things to address that never would occur to me, so many twists and turns along the way...so revealing of the people involved. A character building exercise in the real world, I think. But so rewarding. I do miss my Klipsch cohorts (talking to you, Chex), and of course the excellent products and customers. There isn't a place like it on earth For those of you who said you'd keep in touch and haven't, shame on you! For those of you who I haven't gotten back to, shame on me! I haven't deleted any emails, I promise! Hope you all have a great labor day weekend. Steven is turning 10 on Sunday...if you can believe that. So spill. Tell me how you're doing.

  16. Upload to "Flicker" = free Download from Flicker to your Pc in the medium 500 size = free Then when posting here, simply go to your downloaded pics in your Pc. works every time, and file size is a min. I get it.... I use to fish. I just tried to upload a picture of a fish I caught but got an error, 'file size too large'.

  18. Yep, a fish I felt for years. As the years passed I met some people who put me in front of a mirror; turned out I wasn't a fish but a monkey. So I climbed that tree late in life, and the view is awesome. Now I try to be someone who holds that mirror for others. Nico

  22. When i was about 14, i had the bright idea that i would catch some rattlesnakes and sell the venom to the local hospital. So, i did...except the hospital told me that they buy their anti-venom from a lab...so here I am with this Mojave Green and wondering what to do now. You could have told them that it was for sale and if you could not sell it you would just turn it loose. When I was in grade school I found a hornet's nest about the size of a soccer ball. I told Dad I was going to bag it at night and put it in a neighbors car. Dad talked me out of it. Said I'd probably kill someone.

  24. The biggest problem with autoclibration is that the avr sets the test tone levels and it can't be adjusted. The only good thing about high negative numbers is that you won't clip the preamp signal, lol.

  27. A lot of people believe that amplifiers that spec out the same sound the same. I just think they're mostly deaf. I can understand telling someone that you can't hear the difference between certain things, but what I can't understand is telling someone that they won't hear the difference because you don't. People have to try things for themselves to know whether they will or won't. I once tried some $800.00 a pair silver plated cables. I picked them up for a song off of AudiogoN. Believe me when I say there is an audible difference because the tweeters about shredded my ears. I would love to know what caused that.

  29. welcome to the forum! I have Heresy II's (or rather, the pro version KP-201's) and they sound best with my subwoofer turned on. I use mine in the home theater so I have them positioned for optimal soundstage and not bass response since I cross them over at 80Hz to my sub. I put them on top of these little Ikea side tables so that they are at ear height vs. angled upwards from the floor. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40104270/#/20011408

  31. What I have learned from building active systems is that the processor is the heart..........your budget shoudl be generous here. If you try to cheap out, the whole experience is ruined. Ask me how I know. You need a good (expensive) processor.....trust me on this. The other thing you need is I/O.......trust me on this also. a 6 output device is not enough. It will only do a stereo 3 way system, and no subs, and no spares. You need at least 8 outputs........you will expand your setup and be in a pickle if you cheap out on your processor.......just my 2 cents. If you are concerned about budget...........get passive networks and forget about building a good active system.

  38. Holy crap that is almost the same story lol. It was the grand opening of UE for me as well. My mom actually walked out of that room and told me not to go in there, she was right lol. Only it was a $9,999 Sharp dlp projector in my location. Seeing that set up was my 1st real reason I wanted to seek employment! And indeed this whole trading up to pro audio has taught me valuable lessons of not buying new when possible. I got 4 used 904s at the same price as a pair of the RF-7's.

  43. iv had every bose model lv heard of many bought new. Also had a gigantic range of near all speaker brands and models not just one model of a certain brand. at one time 901's sold pretty good...not anymore. The last pair of 901's i ever sold had the exact same thing to say... "They are what they are..".He also has a garage full of pa speakers and quite a bit of klipsch including kg's and synergys. He had some klf 20 or 30's years ago that i remember and many other klipsch i have no idea about before and even to this day. I have to mention those 901's i sold him went in his house. All the other gear he's got sits in a small shop out back and i would chose way faster(more quickly).... "They are what they are..".but i will say im very pleased not to have any that i know of and stear clear from bose by all means....never once got on clist and typed in bose HAHAHAHAHA you guys know who you are Carl aka CECAA% lol and Boxx i have a feeling is all he says when he plugs BOSE in!!!! dtel now we should go easy on him after the work he had done. AND THESE ARE OUR NEW UP AND COMING MODS. Bless us all while you can SOMEBODY! EVERYBODY! Bose sincerely have minimal (seriously no kidding) to no musical tonality. The dynamics are null and void from point of purchase. From 501's, 701's, pa802's, to 3 diff level of 901's and so many others not mentioned 301's are the only bose i can deal with, maybe...its been many years. the pa802 is alright for loud auctioneers...not necesarily music. I once had a life preserver on in the audio store when i walked in. Now with Klipsch heck i dont even wear a bathing suit lol Several series of 501's have been in my pocession. One of them wasnt bad but wasnt goodat the same time..the rest for a $500 speaker i was appaulled. I really cannot believe how dull and non existant music value was...for a movie and im being honest here a literally silent(yes most have a sythesized piano jamming i know) one very possibly some bose may make a surround speaker in the c- scale of grade on a lucky day. This is a true statement! ITS NOT JUST BOSE. THERE IS A WHOLE CRAZY LOT OF SPEAKERS OUT THERE THAT HAVE NO TONE ANYTHING THE WAY RECORDINGS WERE MEANT TO BE. I HAVE TO BE HONEST. IF SOMEBODY CANNOT DISTINGUISH THESE FACTS THEN JUST GET SOME CHEAP KLF'S(THE BRAND) I THINK THEY ARE CALLED klf or klm';s or something but they are free speakers like $8 each SAVE SOME MONEY. IF YOU CAN buy some bose and like anything(cause bose are not good at reproducing sound the way it should sound) save the receit! They are not worth the money spent to make them. Bose are truly on a fraud status its really all BS...i tried them man and my ears know whats up for real! SO ALL I CAN SAY IF IT DOESNT SOUND ANYTHING THE WAY IT SHOULD AND YOUR REALLY PISSED OFF, IT MUST BE BOSE

  44. Got to this point, Backing up a step...the goal of the xover is to sum the two drivers together so that the final passband is flat. Just picking a xover frequency doesn't guarantee a flat passband because you have phase rotation from the time arrival differences, and from the natural phase response of the individual drivers...and even from the type of xover slope too. Here's a crash course in how I personally go about doing it... When you pick a xover point (based on polars/distortion numbers), what you want to do is put in the filter and then measure the MF and HF separately, but plot them on the same graph (use the "all measured" tab in REW). The frequency where the two lines overlap is the acoustic xover point, which can be different from the electrical xover point since your speakers won't be perfectly flat. Then take a measurement of both drivers combined...what you want to have happen is for the combined response to be 6dB louder than each driver is individually at the acoustic xover point. Usually what happens (especially with horns) is that you'll measure a dip instead of +6dB. To fix the phase, what you want to do is add delay to the tweeter to time-align the two signals. You can actually measure the time delay using REW, which would be a good starting point, since that compensates for the propogation delay. Using a LR xover type ensures that the xover is phase aligned (since it is by definition). So all that is left is to compensate for the individual driver phase. The easiest way to do this is to adjust the delay on the HF.... Start by playing a test tone at the acoustic xover point and measure the SPL. You'll notice that you'll be able to make the SPL at the acoustic xover point go up and down as you change the delay...so stop when you hit +6dB. Also make sure you limit yourself to within +- 1/2 cycle so that you don't mess up the time alignment (every 360 degrees of phase the on-axis magnitude will be +6dB). Now measure again and you should see that your dip got filled in real nicely and your passband is flat. Keep in mind that this is just the basics...there's a lot more involved with voicing a speaker than just setting the xover frequency and getting proper summation through the passband. There's a few other nuances that show up with the xover settings too that are hard to describe without having measurements handy. My question is what does he mean by frequency over lap. If I run a test on the lf from 20-1000, and the hf from 300-18000, then wouldn't there be overlapping from 300-1000.

  45. So audyssey pro eqs the Oris horn separately and the open baffle separate, then you manually go in and adjust your time delay, and add your crossover. I will say tonight I played around with my settings, this setup is sounding pretty good. I was looking at a post from Cask, on tri amping the Belle, and Lascala. He had some eq settings posted so I plugged them in to the Minidsp, and left the P audio 4525 with the K69 un equed, it as well sounded pretty good, alot better then it did before. Even better when cranked up. This is where I am really having fun, I might leave them alone for a bit so I can do some work in the basement. I often wonder if I am trying to eq some room responses. Maybe thats why is sounds good but measure bad,
