  1. Had a great day today. JL Sargent stopped by for some martinis and music. Went out for a burger as well. Nothing better than hanging with forum members. I recommend it every chance you get. After he left I spent some more quality time in the garage with my tunes and tools. Awesome day!

  2. Where do i find the Tarheel Channel? Suspect there may be some good acoustic performances there -- I mean, you’ve had that guitar for a week or so now.

  4. The use of masking panels for those few films that have shifting aspect ratios (I'm looking at you the hunger games, the dark knight, dark knight rises, transformers 2) makes for a better viewing experience. I wouldn't go any other way than a 2.35:1 screen after owning one. You can always mask down to 1.85:1 and open up the ratio for the majority of your movie watching experience.

  5. I agree Diz. The last thing Marshall needed was to be pitted against OSU or somebody in a playoff game. They really need to play a big team or two at the start of the season. The playoffs isn't the place for that! I am very sad Marshall lost, but in a way relieved for the reasons I just mentioned. What a great season. I really think Doc Holiday is a great coach, and I still think Rakeem Cato is as good a QB as this state has ever produced. I am very definitely considering a bowl game trip to wherever they end up. I was really kinda hoping Florida State would get beat tonight. That way nobody would be undefeated. Am I selfish or what?

  6. I haven't done it in a while. If I remember you just search for the artist, then on the right side of their songs you will see the line that indicates a menu. Click on that then click on add once you do you will see options of playlist to add it to.

  7. Try Spotify to, their free service is higher quality then what you pay for with Pandora. Plus you can build play list and download music as well.

  8. Well I've been having fun today. For the price of a patch cord and some hand holding from dtel I am streaming Pandora through the good stuff. I tried it with the tubed system and thought it sounded a bit thin. Was wondering if I needed to upgrade to the premium package. Then I hooked it up to my SX-950 Pioneer and LS/Altec system. Bien! I have been creating some kick a$$ stations and listening most of the day. Free music......fits my wallet these days. Any tips on Pandora? Premium package? Options? One problem.....every so often the screen goes blank and the music stops. Push any key it starts again. Is that the screen saver?

  12. Hear that. Got bit by a Brown Recluse several years ago. Didn’t realize it at the time of the bite; however, noticed a red line moving up my arm. Went to the doctor -- who confirmed the bite. Gave me a shot of antibiotic -- which turns out, I was allergic to. Interesting day that was. Got bit by something a few years ago…noticed blood poisoning line about 11 PM. Debated waiting till morning but decided to head to the ER. Doctor examined my arm and said, “see this (pointing to a ring around the wound…like a bullseye)…this is what we don’t want to see…I’m glad you came in." I’ve had two close calls with rattlesnakes; but, never been bit. Thank God you went in. A friend from the midwest actually died from a spider bite to the neck some years ago. He was not the kind of guy you'd expect to cash out from something so small ... played college football and did a brief stint in the NFL. We have a few nasty spiders in Colorado too, and are careful.

  17. Wanted to start a thread on reviewing my first pair of 18's. My thoughts on these particular subs and how they compared to my 4 THX Ultra 2 subwoofers. These are also my first sealed enclosure subs I have owned. I will post a detailed review later today now that I have properly enjoyed them for 4 different films.

  19. These are Heresy 1 speakers which were used at Bearsville Studio as monitors, and I don’t have to remind you of the classic albums which came out of that studio. I will include a copy of the receipt on Bearsville letterhead from when I bought them. I was a HUGE Todd fan and had to have them, but am now downsizing… Some modifications: 4 screw holes on the top for hanging from the ceiling at Bearsville Todd had them covered in this funky brown formica, which has the advantage of really making the cabinets non-resonant. This is my third pair of Heresies, and they are head and shoulders above stock in cabinet rigidity. I replaced the capacitor with films, but left the originals (which were still working) in place in case I ever wanted to return to stock. They play well and sound great. A good price on a pair of Heresies with some cool history. I wanted to give forum members first shot before ebay. The pair are $500 plus shipping from North Carolina in two boxes.

  20. talking with a couple guys via text this morning, i mentioned wishing i lived closer. he said the forum is so spread out and we would make great neighbors. i immediately imagined a whole neighborhood full of klipsch members, where everyone is cranking good tunes, no one ever gets pissed off, and the absolute best block parties of all times!! wouldn't that be so cool!! happy thanksgiving everyone!

  22. Just wondering: Is it possible to by a AT screen with 16:9 and 2.35:1? And how would it work with masks? Is it a possible to get automated motorized masks? And what about the projector? Can you get one that shows 16:9 and 2.35:1? Martin Pedersen Denmark

  24. Michael is correct. I used the RF-83's for several years before buying my LaScala Trio. I preferred the sound of my RF-83's either set to full range or 60Hz even with quality subs. If you do not have a subwoofer, then definitely set them to large.

  26. Title: Diana Krall - Live in Paris (DVD) (2002), $12.28 (Amazon, 20 Sept 2004) Review Pros: I've owned this DVD for over 10 years now, and it has been an integral part of my impetus to upgrade my system, as I use this disc as a test disc for surround sound quality. Yesterday, I listened to this now-house-standard disc once again after upgrading my center Belle to a K-510/K-69-A JuBelle configuration. The results were stunning/engaging: I had to listen to the entire disc and my background audience was dancing/moving to the music while preparing our evening dinner. This is notable in that I'd just pulled out the disc only to briefly evaluate the changes to the center JuBelle. Diana Krall has been a fixture in jazz now for over 20 years after graduating Berklee (jazz) and taking lessons from two of her band mates John Clayton, double bass and Jeff Hamilton, drums, until they three decided to tour--using her name as the headliner. The reason why they did this will be clear once you see her piano playing and jazz vocals. "Sultry" is the word that comes to mind--that and "engaging". These are simply jazz standards, but they illuminate your listening room with live-quality music that causes you to stop and watch. Here the standout musicians are guitarist Anthony Wilson and the backup orchestra conducted by Alan Broadbent and Claus Ogerman. But the standout numbers are the straight quartet jazz standards--"Deed I Do", "East of the Sun", and "I Don't Know Enough About You", with an outstanding encore solo of Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" to close this notable concert--one that catapulted her career to new highs and preceded her subsequent marriage to Elvis Costello. This disc can be used as an audio-quality reference disc due to its technical and performance quality. Cons: My particular disc is a DVD - not the Blu-Ray version. This results in lower quality video resolution and "shimmering" backgrounds of curtains and stage props with splashy colors and textures. The Blu-Ray version is therefore recommended if available--but be careful of the region and there is a Region "B" Blu-Ray disc available that requires European or all-region capabilities to play. Equipment and room used for review: Jubilee/TAD TD-4002 fronts, JuBelle center K-510 horn/K-69-A driver (both time-aligned and EQed using active digital crossovers), Cornwall surrounds w/Crites tweeters, two SPUD tapped horn subs (front corners--forming false corners behind Jubilees), Onkyo PR-SC886 AVP in Dolby Digital mode (see profile). Each channel is carefully EQed manually to match frequency response of the front Jubilees at the listening position. Rating: Highest recommendation (5 star)

  27. Oh I forgot that part when I saw them physically. I don't understand how it has so many good reviews there. But of course they look shiny and they do make speakers work so I guess they are good. Also, why would anyone use a brass plug that has horrible conductivity? We look for OFC copper wires and then use a brass plug? What an idea? At least go for decent brand that has better build and better gold plating even if it's brass underneath.

  28. As a side note, it's strange yet encouraging to hear your wife and daughter come home from watching the last Hunger Games five minutes ago while saying that the movie theater sucks compared to our home theater, especially when I don't even have a screen at all yet. Apparently the subs are horrendous there. I wouldn't know.

  29. In electrical engineering school we always used to joke that electronics were manufactured with a certain amount of smoke included as a safety device. So if you ever "release the smoke", not to worry, you just enacted the safety precautions that smarter engineers than yourself included.

  30. We don't have cable so there is very little 16:9 content that we watch. Video games on the PS3 are 16:9 but I don't play much so the majority of what we watch are 2.35:1.
    1 point
  31. 2.35 is the way man. If you watch a lot of movies it's well worth it. Plus not sure why you would spend all that money on a jvc with lens memory option and not use it? As for the switching back and forth if watching special features just disable auto switching and watch that on 16x9.

  32. The Dark Knight does that too. It's dumb to me. I would think that there are very small amount of movies that do this. Many of your menus will be displayed in the "Grey Bar" which is below the bottom frame. To me, that's not a big deal. If I can't see it, I can quickly switch using Lens Memory feature on the projector. Again, everyone's setup is different and you have to decide what will work best for your room according to what you personally want to achieve. For my room and setup, 2.35:1 is the best option.

  33. Overall I found the counter tops very acceptable. They are heavy and void free. I did find they were not 'perfect' and had some slight warping, but nothing I couldn't live with. It just means I'll need a little extra sanding and touch up work to get them to look right. I wanted to minimize the amount of external hardware, so decided to mostly use glue for the build. Going for locking rabbets on the corners and inserting the baffle itself in a dado to ensure good seal between the front and back of the H frame. Still a work in progress.

  34. (I hope I have the quote attributed to the right person. If not, then I'm talking over your shoulder, MetLake. ) +++ My son is going for a week of "brainwashing school" starting Monday. His department will be training him on how to ride his bike. No it's the right person. Not trying to be insulting here but it is what it is. My grandfather was a police and FBI trainer. My uncle is a K9 handler in a large city. I have multiple friends who are cops, including my neighbor plus some shooting buddies. I realize it's an important role and I respect the job but also think you're probably kidding yourself if you think it doesn't change you. It seems like it's worse in big cities.

  37. I got a better idea. Quit turning perfectly good corn into gas and burning it. I understand green, but there are better things to do than burn food when people are starving all over the world. One of the dumbest bone-headedness moves our fed gov't has ever done. Find one mechanic who likes the stuff. Not including mechanics who make money fixing all the stuff ethanol brakes.

  38. No problem man! No apology needed. I probably did come across that way out of frustration but that was not my intent. Speakers seem to be a hot topic of debate because sound is subjective, what sounds good to one person my sound repulsive to another and who is to say who is right. In example my favorite speakers for listening in a large room where lots of volume is needed (ie playing saxophone and playing backup tracks through them) are infinity SM-225’s which a lot of people flat out despise, Granted I have a velodyne ULD-18 sub with them crossed over at 80hz (they do have a weak low end for there size) and I have modified the midranges with a thicker heavier surround to smooth out the mid rand and done a few other little mods. But I LOVE them. I can play sax recorded it and play it back and there the only ones I have tried that sound Just like it did when I recorded it. But I’m sure a ton of people would tell me I don’t know what I am talking about (which is probably true..LOL). But I have no illusion that they are even “High End” they just fit a role for me and sound great to my ears. But back to these speakers, I was just outside listening to them and what I think what is bothering me the most are they just sound like there is a lack of detail in the music. Some subtle parts of different tracks that I am used to hearing are just not there. IE From the Piano Guys we 3 kings, you can hear his fingers on the fret board and subtle string noise of the cello with my other speakers with these it’s just not there they almost sounds slightly muffled. Equalization can take care of any tone issues I have with them I hope but I don’t know about the clarity and detail. I am not giving up on them yet. That is my main reason for the post to see if I am just crazy or if anyone else had noticed the same thing and maybe had some mods for them or something like that.

  39. (respectful snip, I just wanted to reference your post) I did not mean to offend you by my review of the speakers but that was my honest first impression. I may have been a little harsh on them but that is my opinion. (bugman53) +++ Your reply (directly above) qualifies you IMO as a person of some quality and integrity, I apologize if I've jumped to a faulty conclusion based on your initial post. Trolls don't offer reasonable explanations, and often disappear after a negative post. What got my rabbit ears up is that there are people who go from website to website to website posting negative reviews, about "what ever" product. A negative review about anything doesn't bother me. I prefer honesty, and sometimes every product is not a gem. There are a LOT of knowledgeable people on here. If you had been asking for feedback instead of making Post #1 a complaint, I likely would have reacted differently. I've redacted my initial post to reflect my current sentiments. Since you quoted me, my quote will show up in your post, but feel free to delete it as well. -Dave

  41. Have you ever thought that maybe "training" is the issue? Training nowadays is apparently becoming more and more of an "us vs. them" brainwashing school. Eh, not really. You almost sounded like you knew what you were talking about there for a minute. You were trying to invoke the 21 foot rule and jacked it all up. The idea is that someone 21 feet away can get to you and put a blade in your gut BEFORE YOU CAN DRAW and get a round off. That's not what happened here, they not only had already drawn but there was a rifle pointed at her. There were three cops on the scene with guns drawn. They were already within range of a taser but even if they weren't, I'm pretty sure that the last guy could have gotten within usable range with the taser while being covered by the other two. If she charges, yeah, drop her. Otherwise, come on guys. Besides, if you were really worried about the distance, according to the OP they were 10 feet away! With a rifle! Back up if you're worried about it! I have police friends including one on a SWAT team in a major city. I get that knives can do serious damage and the ones I know are plenty willing to pass around photos that prove this. However, what's being lost is the humanity of it all. The streets are not a war zone. Stop treating mentally ill people like a suicide bomber. If you've got two cops with guns including an AR, 10 feet away, and a third that has a taser that was already drawn, there's no reason this woman should have ended up dead.

Detel iv been bitten by everything from snakes to spiders in 30+ years of mining. Ill take a snake over a Black widow anytime, snake bite 8 to 10 days, black widow takes about the same, however up to six months later you get a shooting pain in your joints. dam spiders anyway.

Stereo iv purchased for this farmers boat, Sony head unit, 2K amp, Eight 8" marine speakers and #14 cable. No sub planned as of yet, really want to hear it before going that far. Total Dash redesign, little glass work here and there, and i think iv killed all the spiders.

I also thank the Moderators for letting this thread run.
