  2. I'm new to the forum and new to Klipsch. About two weeks ago my brother in law gave me a pair of 1979 Heresy's, HBR, in perfect working order, though the cab could use a refinish. He got two pair, these and a pair of Heresy 2, at a great price and figured he'd share the love. Lol. I have a home recording studio, have been playing guitar for almost 40 years and build, repair and service tube guitar amps. I also dabble with tube Hi Fi, so naturally, I strive for the best, accurate sound I can get, which leads me to Klipsch. My prior experience with Klipsch has been limited, we used the Heresy Insustral Ported speakers as stage monitors in a band I was in during the 80's, they were good, but I don't remember them sounding this great. Earlier today I decided to try them on a mix of a new song that I've been working on. I've been having a tough time getting it to sound right on various systems, car, surround system, iPod, etc. Through the Heresy's it took me about 10 minutes total to fix and sounds excellent through everything that I played it through after. I sent it off to the client and they're very happy with the result, so much that they asked me to mix three other songs they just finished tracking. Normally, I mix through JBL and Behringer Studio monitors. The Heresy's provide so much more detail and are lifelike, I could hear everything instantly. I've been listening to these speakers every chance I get. So far I've tried them with my cheap Sony surround receiver and my 1986 Technics 100 watt per channel stereo, which I used for the mix. Not everything sounds great though, a poor recording, bad mix or weak gear is apparent, but that's what I enjoy most, accuracy. I'm surprised at how good the Technics sounds with them and can't wait to retube my Dynaco ST70 tomorrow and hear my favorite vinyl. I'm a Klipsch fan now and expect that I'll be getting more, maybe Cornwalls or KHorns eventually, maybe just another pair of Heresy's. Life is too short to not have the best sound that you can.

  18. Hey guys, late start for me today. Just started my 1st cup. I will be going into the shop today for some clean-up. Me and the wife will be gutting the office soon. She got some new Office furniture yesterday. I have so much crapp......it's gotta go. Lately I've been going through the shop picking stuff that I have had for years.... if I pick something up and look at.....and I don't know why I have it.....it's GONE!! Chuck the roof looks great....and the house......yea and LF ;-) duder, do your thing with those kids, that's great stuff. We took our youngest daughter to cheer leading for a few years. We would take her to all the practices and all the games. We took her to this one football game and our teams mascot did not show. My daughter told the coach that "hey my dad will do it" So yea I was the mascot for that game. I put on that smelly thing and did the whole game. I was Cavalier man. It took awhile to get the hang of that big head....man it was hot. Let me tell I had a ball... I was a fool.... I got the whole crowd on there feet.... I think all the parents came up to me after the game and told me I was the best.....man that was a great day. And on to you Mark.....I don't know what to say.......that's just too cool....for sure too much time on your hands....you are da'man lol lol.....I gave your video the 1st thumbs-up :-) OK guys gotta get out of here I'll check in later....wishing all a great day. MKP ;-)

  19. Morning gang, well this is how its going to be for a while. Other than here or there on the weekdays, the only time I will get to post is on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Soccer is in full swing, and baseball starts today. With those, and my classes I am taking for my higher learning. I won't have much time, but those are the important things and need to be done. I all so started painting the stairwell that has been neglected for a couple years. I think I take on to many projects at once. With those and the camper down at the lake there won't be much browsing the internet time. Anyways enough about me, looks like everyone else have been keeping busy. Tarheel, the wife likes the house, she asked when are we moving. Mark,, I showed some buddies the liquor bar on the boat, they all liked it. Joe try and take it easy, as for the rest of you try and stay out of trouble. Well folks I have to run, I need to see if I can get some of this painting done before baseball practice.

  20. My son and I have always enjoyed the Fast & Furious movies so last night, I took him and a friend to see Furious 7. I have never seen a movie in IMAX so I figured this might be the perfect opportunity to see what IMAX was about. When we first walked into the theater, I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it might be like the dome shaped screen at MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry). To my surprise, it was a huge 16:9 format screen. The screen didn't look ridiculously huge like I expected but then I realized it was considerably larger since it was a much larger room to begin with and it was wall to wall screen. One of my Adult Leaders at my church recommended me sitting on the back row (that wasn't happening) due to the screen being too large to view. I ended up sitting in the middle of the theater where I usually sat. Another thing that surprised me was there were no visible speakers. I wasn't sure what to think of this since there were curtains on the wall. I wondered if the curtains would "taint" the sound quality. The previews looked pretty grainy and sometimes even pixelated but I figured that may be due to the fact that if they were standard 1080p shooting on a IMAX projector, they might just be getting stretched. No biggie. So the lights dim and the "IMAX Demo" begins. Ok...I'm smiling. Although they didn't use masking for top and bottom, the grey bars faded once the movie began. Image quality is superb and the sound is better than I have ever heard in that Movie Theater! Visually and Audibly, it was a great experience. The movie itself was fantastic! The action sequences were powerful, creative and fresh. Sometimes you would have two action sequences going on at the same time so there was no down time. The sound was crystal clear with bass that was felt. Visually, the IMAX was beautiful. Tons of detail, clarity and the colors were vibrant. I think it's safe to say that the IMAX has spoiled me just like Bluray spoiled me over Standard DVD. Not sure I'll do IMAX for every movie, but for the big ones like the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, I'll very likely be hitting the IMAX again. If you haven't seen Furious 7, I would highly recommend it. I've always been a fan of Vin Diesel and The Rock. Jason Statham did a great job as the villain. Overall lots of laughs, great characters, fast cars, lots of explosions and a heart felt tribute to the late Paul Walker.

  29. Here is my input. When I was a young lad, I started with cassettes then moved to cds now back to vinyl. Or wait vinyl and hd tracks. Anywho I have all ways paid 16-26 dollars an album. I still don't mind paying that regardless if its new vinyl or high resolution audio(flac). I like FLAC, and most of the play back methods play it and it sounds good. Now there are the originals that have been re released in high resolution, some of them being Ozzy's older stuff. Now reason I mentioned this, is due to what etc mentioned. They are only as good as the original masters. One problem I have of this, on a good reproduction system, is that some of this now sounds like crap. Anyways beer is good.

  31. Interstellar: a decent rental that may be really cool in 3D. I had the shakers on for this one so I am not sure how good the ULF effects are. The way the shakers were going off, I would think the ULF was great. The shakers even went into protection a couple of times with long action sequencies.

  36. From a couple days ago... I looked and looked and I could not find a GT PP in white without it being the premium model... which I didn't want. The non-premium Power Package GT's are fairly rare. I wanted the car as striped down as possible and the only thing I didn't get was the Recaro seats, but I may just go ahead and order them from the parts dept... we'll see. I guess I wont be buying speakers anytime soon...

  40. The felt doughnut Alex is using is not an optimal execution of this modification but I expect that it will be quite serviceable. It seems the the felt Alex ordered was not to spec being thicker than 1/8 inch. I optimized this modification using three layers of 1/8" S.A.E. rated F-11 acoustical felt. The layers of 1/8" F-11 must be free of one another and the cut seam re attached just as Alex has done in the photo he provided so the seam remains free to flex this is important. The felt disks need to be free to move with each disk being different in OD and ID they follow the profile of the cone. I like to leave at least a 1/8" gap between the felt and the former/cone all the way around. Make sure that the inserted 1/4 inch felt (also F-11) on the basket struts is totally clear of the upper suspension. It may not be easy to see but the basket struts are first lined with dynamat then with a 1/4" layer of F-11. I also place a layer of dynamat on the rear pole plate of the motor assembly. In the case of the CF woofers I coated the whole motor assembly with dynamat. I hope this information is helpful. Best regards Moray James.

  42. Sorry, I didn't see where he had posted. I had considered it and that might help on the boot up but what about when my son just exited a game in the PS4? One thing I guess I can try is to use a different HDMI cable that I have from the PS3 to the Receiver. Who knows, that might resolve the issue.

  43. That is very nice. Im not a ford fan at all but use to always have a hopped up mustang for fun. Usually a few years old though. It does seem that sports cars are getting back into the groove they once were. For a while my northstar Cadillacs would push anything back lol That what you have Schu is a very sharp car!

  45. I've a PC that's mainly built for gaming with high-end graphics card to provide good video via HDMI/Display Port/VGA and audio card to provide 7.1 audio providing multiple options e.g. analog 7.1, etc. with various format of DTS and Dolby. It also had the TV card to watch OTA and cable on PC. The dual video output on graphics card allowed us to connect to TV as well as the PC monitor. We used it for long 4-5 years before, I went with dedicated audio and video devices. I loved it, exercizing my geeky side enjoying music, TV, movie watching and gaming at the most cheapest but quite good from the audio/video quality aspect. That said, most current days BDPs have significantly lower time from standby to play with various "Smart" features and potentially wi-fi connectivity. Typically, the built in hardware in BDP decode various auido formats while high end video processing unit is dedicated to provide best picture. Let's say, compared to PC, the audio and video processing are optimized between dedicated hardware and software. This way it's not depedent on the software program used on the PC, driver of the audio/video card or the type of audio card and video card used. Sometimes, it's quite challenging to get everything sorted. Assuming minimal technical challenges, in my opinion, the major downside of using a PC is the comfort as well as getting all family members to get used to it. Not to mention, now a dyas brand named BDPs are pretty cheap in $100 range.

  46. That's actually a nice device. Not in production yet I don't think. I think this is a proof of concept, but it does seem to work great for a concept 1-off. I can see that in it would cut down on injuries a lot, but the cost is gonna be very high I figure. For older men who still like to tinker, but who can't get up and down, this thing would add years to his life. I like it.

  48. This is were i currently stand with bracing. Everything is glued. There is a horizontal brace under both woofers and under the horn on the baffle and another brace running from this brace to back of box. I ran two brace vertically up the back of the box and one brace running vertically on each side of the box. Moray recommended me i knock out the factory brace but i did not feel comfortable doing this. Next comes the stringers which are 1x2 pine and they pretty much connect the braces together. I will be out of town fri-mon so ill see what i can get done today if not next tuesday i begin again. Fell free to ask any questions and make recommendations. Alex
