  1. TGIF to you too Gary as well as to all the regulars here. No rain here last night when I got home (surprise!) so I got my lawn mowed. The bad news is that I got my lawn mowed which means I'll spend most of the weekend working in my bathroom. Oh well, it needs to get done. I think I'll order shower valves and trim as well as faucets today. Gotta have the shower valve soon so I can do the walls in there. FYI, Amazon seems to have the best prices on Moen, Kohler and Delta stuff if anyone is ever looking. I've been E-pricing most of the week.

  2. Happy T G I F morning to you all.............. Went through the past few days of messages here on C&C.... I was wondering if you were all talking about a design based on the Thigpen subwoofer? Their larger model has been used in churches for use with the pipe organs where space and cost are prohibitive to a true 32' rank of 12 pipes ... I went to their website this morning and downloaded the test DVD file for the fun of it... Wonder how my Velodyne will handle those low frequencies ! Mark, when I first saw that Thigpen, all I could think about was the actuator circuit for a constant speed prop, very similar concept . Ok, coffee will be soon on the way into work, as I need to stop at D&D's to pick up another bag of their Dark roast Enjoy your day my friends, I'll be over at RTM tonight, looking forward to spinning some 'magnetic' media which I won on eBay last week, some Enoch Light on the Command label = reel to reel....... (hopefully it will arrive in the mailbox today!) Chuck, thanks so much for sharing those photos of your front porch and very nice to see you both enjoying that outdoor space, wonderful . Mark, hope you get your truck finished soon, sound like you need the thing after all ..............Gary

  3. Are you reverse engineering one? S,C and C thread. Edit I figured out it was S C and T Yes, i did mess that up, i went there so as not to mess with tarheels thread too much, the other reason was i was nippin at the scotch No way to mess up my thread....no rules I do try to mention coffee or cables every hundred pages or so. Had some coffee this morning and I can see a cable running along the floor. Am I on topic?? Mornin' all. The sunshine is back and everyone here is starting to feel human again. Heading across the pond next week to see the kids and can't wait. Today will be spent making lists and moving our crap out of the way for the painter. Amazing how much the corners of a room can attract piles of stuff. My home office is a disaster after closer inspection. Oh well. Happy Friday guys and cheers.

  8. You really don't need to say anything, we all know how it works. President of the shop, doesn't matter, she could stay home and eat Cheetos all day and still be the boss, it's just the way it is. It's just a shame she is to CHICKEN to join herself I might ought to leave this alone, she would then probably talk with my wife and it couldn't possibly end good for either of us.

  13. On cup # 3. Do throttle cables count? Stihl brushwacker update: carb torn down, soaked, cleaned 3rd time. Muffler screen removed & brushed thoroughly. Was optimistic...still running fine WOT, but have to feather the throttle. Took into Stihl dealer yesterday. Tech ran it full throttle for several minutes, removed carb, put back together. He advised running a few tanks of gas through it to see if it will work what ever out of it. So at least I know it wasn't operator/self-mechanic error. He didn't charge me anything, which was really nice. Will probably end up replacing the carb, but will use it for awhile and see if it improves. 2-cycle engines are like boats...they don't like to be stored! Rain moving in this afternoon and tomorrow, so if throttle cables don't count, I may re-install 8 analog audio cables from Oppo to Pioneer Elite AVR for SACD/DVDA, etc...I eliminated them for simplicity when I swapped my old Outlaw pre/pro with the AVR because it has HDMI, and my understanding was it should pass via HDMI. MKP, 232k on my 1998 Honda Accord 4 cylinder. Too bad it sits outside because rust has caused most of my issues, replaced gas tank, oil pan, brake lines, exhaust, etc...What happened to getting a complete exhaust system replaced for $300? The front pipe alone was over $200 and I don't believe it is stainless like the original. Nice job on the bathroom remodel Carl! I have one waiting for you when you are done. Haven't used the shower in our main bath for a year. Water just trickles out. I have the hot and cold faucet handles off and ready to remove the valves, but there are no shut offs for the shower supply lines. Why don't they install shut offs for showers? Should be code in my opinion. Anyway, been procrastinating it in fear that I will screw something up and then not be able to turn the water back on. Now that we are beyond Winter, I will try to get some courage like the cowardly lion and tackle it. Have a fun & productive weekend all!

Meanwile im in the Scotch,Cigars and tunes thread, since no coffee in the venue today.

  17. Yes, it's made by Eminent. It's good only up to 30Hz. You'll need a conventional sub to overlap your mains and your fan. My Bud jerry likes they way it makes the walls/celing rattle and things crawl around on the floor, we shall see just what we need when installed, we intend on producing or own verision depending on how well this one works out. If there is anything that can be added to a "Haunt" project, this could be the ticket.

  25. So I've been listening to my pseudo-heresys driven by a Pioneer AVR pretty much every night for about a month and I'm happy to report that I was completely wrong. I really expected the Pioneer AVR to totally suck sound wise when used as a 2-channel receiver. As it turns out it doesn't "suck" but rather it does what an amplifier should do: Take a small signal and turn it in to a big signal without any form of coloration. Color me surprised. No matter... I'm back to listening to my favorite tunes at a volume that pisses off my neighbors. They can just get the #$% over it. I really need one of those "pissing off the neighbors since..." T-Shirts.

  27. OK not a good pic at all but it was a surprise. The rain stopped so I was walking in the yard and heard a noise and looked. The camera focused somewhat on the trees and I didn't have time to fix it, but this plane looks a little low to me. I was surprised how quiet it was being so close for a big plane.

  36. BTW, anyone know anything about portable dehumidifiers? Ran one for a few hours yesterday...bone dry. Frigidaire 50 pint electronic controls model. Called their service line, and the menu didn't even include dehumidifiers in their product mix. Likely have to buy a new one. Any recommendations? This one may be about 10 years old already. They just don't make things to last any more. A bet there is a timer in there to tell it to quit after so many hours. Maybe I can find it and trick it or set it back to zero.

  43. Wow where has the time gone, so many pages of projects. Decks, out door stereo systems, cars, bathrooms, shops, MST3k projects. You name it, its been tackled here this weekend. I don't get much time to post when I am down at the lakes. Well I should say, I put the phone away and enjoy the scenery. I did how ever get my water going, I had to drive the well piping down approx 13' which gave me 5-7' of water. I all so did some smoking in my ugly drum smoker, that thing works great. I will have to see if I have some pictures to share. Sounds like everyone had a nice long weekend, I could use an extra day for recouping. Coffee today, is extra good tasting, but now its time to run. I will catch you guys later.

  44. You can rent a big electric demolition hammer ya know. What fun is that? I went maul and chisel as I didn't want to get into the water pipes. I had to get my long handle splitting mall to bust out the old cast iron tub. The cast iron tub was about 3/8" thick and tough as nails. It fought me the whole way out. After I busted it up into 4 pieces, I still had to use a dolly to get each piece out. Here's a far view. I'll go back with a shower only. I've already replaces the insulation as there was an opening in the wall (courtesy of the home builder) that was perfect for lizards and bugs to enter and make themselves cozy. The hole has been filled.

  45. I broke a piston skirt somehow. Engine supposedly has 100K on it. I've pulled everything on this less the crank. After I get everything spotless, I'm going back in with new pistons, cam, oil pump, lifters, timing chain and sprockets, new ss headers, etc. Right now I'm using dawn detergent and hot water sparingly to wash these freshly deglazed bores. Yes... Dawn is the right stuff to use on a fresh deglazed block..... I have not cracked into a V8 in years......I pull the heads of some of the 4 cyl Honda's.... pull the oil pan and pop the pistons out and do a re-ring job with the block still in the car. Someone stopped by one day while I was washing out the cylinders with my hot soapy Dawn water. They could not under stand why I was doing that. I told them it's the only way to remove all the grit from the cylinder walls....Then they said it looks I was using a toilet brush....I said it is. I have this round toilet brush I got 15 years ago it fits most of the Honda bores just right... MKP :-)

  48. Get your choice of front end components, speakers, and room treatment right and EQ can be relegated to the closet (or garage sale preferrably). Some might find it helps with poor recordings, but remove it and you will hear an increase in clarity and inner detail. The more electronics you add to the chain, the more unwanted artifacts you end up with. I know I will be crucified for this opinion, but it is mine. Shakey

  49. Miner, incredible wife! Or . . . just seeing how much trouble you really are willing to bring down on yourself. The short of the story is, i just happened to do something really right a couple years ago. As stated above, i was willing to fly to ANY state, rent/buy a truck and fetch MCMs and the like. Hunting/Searching for a year plus, i figured the wife would like her own system in the house, so, that is what i worked on for a few months. Chores 1s, with tuber Mono blocks and she was expressing being very pleased, and ran this for a year. Still shopping for my McMs, i came across Khorns, 89, for a grand!, local! So she got upgraded, now im not to touch her system, been given the "Word". Since dialing her system in from the getgo, it's like i can do ANYTHING i want in the cave, and have. She never ask if im done. Pretty cool, learned by happenstance, Build her system first
