  1. Happy Tuesday all. I forgot to mention that my wife and I went to a blues and jazz festival here in town last weekend. There were 2 venues. One inside and one outside. You'd watch one act outside and during that time the next inside act would be setting up. When you moved inside for the next act, the following outside act would set up. Each act played an hour. I had 2 favorites. There were a pair of sax players that were all world caliber and just tore it up. Another act was a bunch of kids (early 20's I'm guessing) called Paul Childers and the black tie affair. Super talented and entertaining. There were also food and beer vendors set up all over outside all over. It was a great time.

  2. Glad to be home It looks like it's been busy here, Hope you are feeling better BSM, sorry to hear about that. It was a fun 10 days and even got a little work done. Had a lot of fun in the evenings with the regular crowd at Rodney's, it never seems to stop there. I am positive I have built up a tolerance to American honey and tequila shots . It is extremely nice to drive a 3/4 of a mile on private property to get to where your staying at night. I left the property only twice in 10 days, both times we were hunting, Patron, 1800 and Jose Cuervo. I have to say the more I listen to Rodney's speakers there the more I am amazed they really do sound great, really good bass and extremely clear, they are perfect for that building. One night there were about 6 of us who outlasted Rodney late in the night and he went home across the property. we cranked it up even more and played a little, even got in some Ziggy Marley, I would bet I was the first time ever the cows heard reggae music. Glad to be back

  6. Welcome back Elden....we missed you here. Sounds like you guys had a great time. Nice size fish you caught. You have a lot more stamina than I do. My idea of partying is like what Barney said when he went to Raleigh and got a corner room at the YMCA " I don't think my head hit the pillow before 9:00) Nice night on the deck and in the yard...thanks for your post Gary! Must be a friendly neighborhood. A healthy meal Steve....maybe try veggie chips such as sweet potato. I hope your audition to be the next Bachelor goes well. Try to smile a lot and get plenty of time in front of the camera. Going to be way hot and humid today. May slack off on the bike riding this AM. Need to clean the upstairs bed and bath. A bud from LA is coming Monday for a few days. An over achiever movie producer, helicopter pilot, retired marine, Las Vegas bar owner. There will be alcohol! Cheers Ladies and Gents

  7. Good evening everyone! Just caught up on the day's banter, giving likes like no tomorrow ! Chuck, like Todd mentioned, a GOOD sour dough would really peak that sandwich up nicely, and we also keep ours in the fridge, generally made at Whole Foods... Tonight, we plated leftover Pad Thai which I made fresh the other night, a fresh salad of baby greens, added fresh dill and Asiago cheese panels along with hunks of smoked salmon . We ate out on the deck, as it cooled down nicely after sundown. I saw that my neighbor Pat was having a family dinner party around the in ground pool, all kinds of grilling going on. SO, I fired up the outdoor system with some 'Roman Street' which is my favorite group to cook and eat fine dinners by .. Played ALL THREE of their albums which took it to the conclusion of our dinner and cleanup. THEN, it was time to crank up the volume and selected Diana Krall's greatest hits!! They all seemed to be enjoying the fine quality of sound from the TIC satellites and sub. I took another glass of wine and went down to the lower yard and sat in the Adirondack chair (one of a comfy pair of 'curvy' RESIN models, NOT hard wood, and listened for a long while myself... Then, took my glass of vino and walked into my neighbor to the south's yard Steve and Joan's place, (we have NO fences) and over 100' away, the sound was still very rich and full, the subwoofer really develops great bass at distance which really surprised me! Well, come 9pm. I let the final song close and put the system to rest for the night... .........that's my story for the day.......more tomorrow.... Enjoy your evening my friends... ..........Gary

  8. Truth is, I used to outdrink most folks I met before until this 1 guy bet me I could not drink cinnamon schnapps w/ tabasco sauce X 5 of those little condiment cups you squirt ketsup, mustard in X 5. Do not recall if I did it but, next thing I recall is my brother waking me up on my barstool. He walked with me outside, where I proceeded to try to punch holes in the concrete block of the bar wall with my fists. My brother just backed up and asked me, what in the world I had to drink. Many years ago...and like to think that is over now. That is, taking crazy bets. Of course, others on the forum nowadays can outdrink me daily...and, I think they do!

  13. Whelp, as I was expecting, procrastinated to near time for her to come back from Maine off of vacation. Did get my 5.1 mostly finished except for odds and ends. Did some other stuff too but, as for what needs doing before she comes, not worth a hill of beans so. Working under extreme pressure in the heat of the day telling the yard contractor what I need besides the mowing, Nan's plants, bush, etc... When Minute Maid Molly gets here bright and early, she and her partner will have their work cut out for them. Final outcome will be, I will reap the reward, and the points, kudos thinking, Billy is a hard working sweet individual. Meanwhile, notice am keeping cool under the pressure. I do my best work, last minute and under pressure. !!! Like a brass ball valve! No leaks! As for Coffee and Cables, I've read every post here. Good Stuff!

  14. Good Tuesday evening everyone! Well, lots of fine and funny banter here today ! Welcome back vacationers! Mark, have you no AC in your home/cave ? Our HVAC is set to 74 degrees YEAR ROUND no matter the weather, it is a formula that has worked for the 9 years we have been here, and surprisingly affordable.............well, I should say, we are LUCKY, as our town makes it's own power, so the rates for elec. are low... Yes Chuck, this end of the 'race track' has some great neighbors for sure... The other end, two homes, a couple of friendly town cops and another home the Fire Marshall. We have more doctors and lawyers living here then anything!! All good. We had a block party a couple years ago. It was hosted by the man who named are little closed group of homes back in 1964 after himself and his brother whom established it... The block party was rather formal and was held up the hill on the main road at an upscale banquet facility. It was there that we met most everyone that lives in 'here'.. Neat contests were also held. Like, for who has lived here the longest!, one lady won that one, she is the only remaining person (over 50 years now) that is still here since the first house was built... Other contests were for those that simply stayed IN the 'glen' but moved a few houses over!! There were actually a couple of people that had done that! Anyway, great food and drink, it went on and on, even the newest neighbors that just bought a house here were introduced, it was lots of fun! Ok, time for nosh and dinner..............thanks for reading everyone you're all too kind .............Gary PS. Sounds like a nice summer dinner Todd

  15. Guess what? BLT's on the menu tonight. Wife bought 5, 1 lb. packages of Jamestown Brand hardwood smoked sliced bacon from North Carolina for $1.79 per pound! Just cooked up a pound in the oven and sampled a couple small pieces. Very tasty! O.K... bring on the sourdough, thick sliced juicy tomatos, some lettuce and a generous portion of mayo on both sides, and fresh ground black pepper. Damn it, I just drooled on my keyboard again. Have you tried this bacon down there Chuck? It is branded as irregular sliced value bacon, great for recipes. Typically I'm pretty fussy about fat in bacon, but if it's cooked to perfection, like my wife just did, it's all going down the hatch. Oh, and vodka tonics.

  25. For anyone that grew up in an alcoholic home the cost of damage to everyone, including everybody is not even calculable. It is beyond money, it's a world changer, period. That said I got plenty friends that drink a brew, wine or their shine and go on with their life. I have dead friends ,work and school mates etc..that had to have the ultimate buzz everyday, nothing to do with pain in my estimation, just a buzz. I believe if ya want to kill yourself it's up to your family and friends to help ya. If your determined who am I to stop ya. I think Doc should do medicine, law do lawing, people do the living or dying. Why should anyone tell anyone you don't need that, it's not their right. I always hated that rule where one person messed it up for everyone. That said, I take no pain meds but occasional ibuprofen and have severe back pain for 25 years. I was told I would be unable to walk by 50, several years ago. 1Deteriorated disc, bulging and unable to walk a few days every now and then. I took Norco several times after surgery and they give ya a great buzz, did next to nothing for pain. If ya ain't robbing the me,the neighbors I could care less what ya do. I'm into freedom, even to self desruct. If ya break the law by damaging others, funs over, no more silly pills or cold brew, just a cage.

  29. Oh man, I'm LOVIN' BLT's lately on lightly toasted sour dough bread. Had 2 on Saturday and only a half (last heel) before hittin' the sack last night. New loaf of sour dough in the fridge. I just can't seem to get enough BLT's. We don't have the tomato plants we had last year, just a couple small ones, In fact they are still in their pots because of all the rain & mosquitos. We need to get them in the ground and hope for a mid-September small crop.

  32. A friend of mine got these Heresy wannnabbeees from a friend for a good price. He's hired me to rebuild the cabinets and install Crites 1228 woofers. They have T-35 tweeters and Atlas PD5VH mid drivers with cast aluminum mid horn (no number), non Klipsch xover and Radio Shack 12" woofers. Cabinets were larger than H's and had slot port at bottom and were scratched up and dented walnut but were well constructed. Looks like a cabinet shop built them. I couldn't come up with any numbers in cabinet to identify them but they don't appear to be Speakerlab products. So far I've removed all the speakers and the homemade looking xovers, filled in the front bottom vent, cut the front edges flush, knotched the top sides to allow cherry trim, veneered in aircraft grade cherry veneer, and installed front solid cherry trim on one. The front trim is 3/4"thick and the grill frame will set in the trim flush. I was rocking along pretty good on these till I had a diverticulitis attack that threw me in the hospital for 3 days. Hope to get back on these pretty soon if the weather breaks a little. Spritzed some water on ther last pic to show grain. Pics attached. I have to say I'm impressed with Bob Crites woofers. They measured out at 97 db and 31 Hz fs.

  35. With all this arguing back and forth, wouldn't the best result be to let the docs practice medicine and take care of their patients to the best of their ability? AND, keep all non-science literate people out of crafting the regulations?

  36. I stand corrected. After sleeping on it, and praying about it, I went through and removed a post and modified some others with the inflammatory comments. This is starting to escalate in a really unhealthy way. I shouldn't be second guessing your motives. With that said, the situation with the listing really upset me because the only time I list anything is when we need extra money. We really got hammered last month with medical bills, and I have to come up with all of the money for the dental work before they'll do it. Seems everyone these days wants whatever insurance doesn't cover up front before they'll do any procedures. So, yeah, I probably overreacted. The article that the Travis posted, written by Dr. fields, is very good.

  37. I like black speakers, as I think they should heard and not seen. That being said... do not paint those speakers black! They have a beautiful grain, and you did a great job stripping them. I'm thinking the closest color to the original Klipsch was Minwax Golden Oak, 2 coats. Then put at least two and maybe three coats of satin polyurethane, letting it dry three days between coats, hand sanding with 220 between coats. I think you wait a week after the third poly coat to sand, and the third might not be needed. The satin is not shiny and it looks the most like the stock Klipsch finish. +++ If you've already made your decisions and have stained, please disregard this post. It won't hurt my feelings. Much.

  38. I was going to say if you did the black, to do it like the KG 3.0 Signature Series were done. Like a see through black laquer. You get the best of both worlds with the wood grain showing through and the black. Those are very nice though. Getting ready to refinish a pair of KG 4.2's myself and may just go your route on stripping and redoing them.

  47. Please DO NOT sand them with a sander....go to Home Depot/ Lowe's/ Menard's/ Walmart....which ever is the best for you ....buy 15 minute chemical stripper....Paint scapper( the one I got the blade came down from the handle on a slight angle( Walmart $5.00) got some kind of blue stripping pads with the plastic handle (Walmart $4.00) a couple more blue replacement stripper pads (Guess where...the W store again).. Oh yea rubber gloves...not the doctor kind ...the science class kind...the W store again...cant remember how much?? The stripper pads ...say they will strip all sorts of S... but they will not harm the wood...saw them ...said WTF....worked great. I put the gloves on my hands ...the stripper on the wood and went to cut the lawn...came back 20 minutes later...scraped the black lacquer off...came off kind of spottie...put some more stripper on .....fired the lawnmower back up...came back 15 minutes later again went over that side again this time using the blue stripper pads in a circular motion....you know what's next...bada bing bada bang...no more black lacquer...one side done... I did this over and over again....till I was done cutting the lawn.....What is it they say about the definition of insanity???...My wife thinks I am When all done ....next take lacquer thinner and a S... load of paper towels and wipe them off....Ah ...nothing like the smell of lacquer thinner on a hot day cutting the lawn...don't forget the cold beverage of your choice...after having SO much fun I washed them down a damp towel.. Waited 2 days went over them again with 0000 steel wool and some more lacquer thinner....good stuff...the paper towel and the OLD damp towel thing again... Then sanded by hand 220 then 400.... could have been worse...could have just been watching TV.... The worse part for me of course the W store
