  1. Danger Will Robinson, when evaluating a nice hot steaming cup of coffee or that new expensive cable, objective and subjective may just be two different species rather than differing points on the same continuum. Who knew that the Robot was looking for a mate and would just happen to find one in intergalactic space? .

  4. I'm 6'2 as well JL. Use to be that 192 was my normal weight and I was alright with that. About 4 or 5 years ago I started going lower without trying and got down to a low of 178. Now I try to stay around 183. Don't know if it had a bearing but I started taking meds for low T about that time. The GP did tell me I could expect to put on muscle with that med and I did. Was happy with the change to my physique. So this morning I decided to do Atkins again. Tried the GM diet a few weeks ago but after the weight loss I had a huge craving for carbs and sweets and gained it right back. So just now I had two strips of bacon and two eggs scrambled with feta cheese. Chased it down with a large lass of water. Nice photo Luther....I have that album on CD.

  7. Morning crew, second cup going down nicely. Breakfast done, scrambled eggs and pulled pork. Football practice started last week, so this morning we are off to practice, then off to the camper. Tell me about it, my phone was going off for quite awhile with updates, I couldn't even keep up. Good times. Ward thanks for the picture, you all ways take some nice photos. I need to finish the basement, so the wife and kids will hang down there and I could have my record player right here when I have my coffee in the morning. I left my preamp on for two or three days straight one time. Maybe that is why it has problems today

  11. I say go for it and spoil 'em. Gotta love that feeling! My folks didn't buy me my first ride. Rather, my Dad's best friend simply showed up to the house one day with a small dirt bike ('74 GT80) on his trailer and said, "Here's a set of wheels for your boy, you owe me $100." He was tired of watching me have to beg my cousins to ride their stuff because I didn't have anything of my own at the time. That is a cool story. He seemed to take to the 70 pretty well, although he is very partial to the lawn mower. 18 months and he is still a little jerky with the throttle, with me somehow fitting on back of course. Brakes are still a mystery to him, but we're working on that. Just when I thought I was done another one showed up. Its looking like this now. '78 model and "Mom" picked the colors this round.

  12. I've been struggling over the purpose of this second system - the isolation from house and family, wondering if it's selfish to prefer being out here all alone for just music listening, etc. It affords me uninterrupted listening and no concerns with regard to volume control. i grew up listening to music with my dad, and my father in law too has a strong passion for music. i always thought that building something like this would be a big draw for them to come out and spend time on a mutual interest, but that just never seems to happen. and that's frustrating. does no one else ponder such things?

  13. The board requires a PC to control it through the 232 port, ±12V at 500mA. Otherwise the core is the same as the full-up version. Most people will choose to spend the money on the full-up model? This unit is for those that are willing to make it work, and like saving the money. There are two more available at DIY Audio for $200 each. Ton Danley uses (and recommends) the Xilica product.

  24. It as you say is all about incorporating things into your life. As mentioned earlier I have a single system. Sort of the sonic hearth of the home. When company is over, it is playing, same on evenings and especially the weekends with music. When I do listen by myself, I have a half decent pair of headphones (over ear is my favourite). This happens primarily later on weekend evening when my wife is sleeping. She has MS and fatigues.then I can concentrate on the music at appropriate volumes. Everything is a compromise, it is all about finding the sweet spot that works with your living space, lifestyle and tastes. I would find a seperate system in another room just a little too separate for my tastes. Prayers for your wife’s condition…that must be rough. One thing i failed to mention is that music is complex … while i can be very social -- it’s also very private. I heard Brian May say that he doesn’t like to tell what a song is about because he wants the listener to give it their own meaning--that way it will be personal to them, and thus more meaningful. He alluded that people would be disappointed if they really knew what a song was about (because they thought it was about one thing and that is not at all what was on his mind when he wrote it). That’s the beauty of music…when we’re alone, we can take a magic ride. Steve

  25. your not the only one who feels that way buddy. i built my theater and put in a riser with a second row as i always wanted a big theater that would bring friends and family over and come together for football games and movies. but i have had my theater for coming up on three years. and i think i have watched about 5 moves total with my dad. maybe 4 football games with buddies over. and maybe 10-15 movies with friends. now me and my wife watch 1-2 movies a week down there. so its gets used. just not like i thought it would. and that is why i haven't been in a super big rush to let the palladiums go. they excite me, and the upstairs living room gets used daily. i even have gear sitting around for a channel setup. have been sitting on that stuff for 2 years hoping to have a 2 channel room one day. but even then i know i will be in this rental for at least 2 more years. so cornwalls, just sitting for 4 years. i drag em out once a year and let em rip for a few hours and then they go back in storage room under a blanket. its a shame but i can't bring my self to let them go.

  28. Ex Machina: A good rental for one of those days that you can't find something really hot at the video store. This summer has been a little low for a lot of block buster movies. The movie is about AI but should peak your interest and keep you engaged.

  29. I actually prefer listening alone. When i’m listening with others, i interrupt the music by talking about how good it sounds or some trivia about the song, album, instrument, or musician. Although, that isn’t a bad thing as then the music served as the hook to some actual dialogue with another person. But as far as pure musical enjoyment -- nothing beats listening alone … and loud. If you’re spending other time with your family, don’t beat yourself up about your alone time. Your kids, when playing alone, get to exercise their imagination. You seem like the type than can keep things somewhat balanced. One painful regret that i have … i love basketball and back in the mid-80s, watched every Laker game for seasons. I didn’t even like my wife talking to me during commercials because i was trying to predict what Pat Riley was going to do after the timeout. Just thinking about this is practically bringing tears to my eyes…i recall one of my kids walking up to me with a game in her hands and asking me if I’d play…I said, “not now, why don’t you go ask one of your sisters to play.” Eventually they stop asking…and i literally HATE parts of me. Sure we did fun stuff; but, if you’re messed up like me, it’s the painful memories that remain. I did incorporate music into my kids life--they heard it all too. I’ve attended Chipmunk Punk concerts (Chipmunks singing rock tunes), took my kids to see Rick Wakeman, REO Speedwagon, the Guess Who.

  30. Just got my new Xilica XP-4080! It looks like a well made product, and has an Android app that you can use for tuning along with a Windows app or the front panel. I found out not only does Danley use them , but Aeris also uses them along with some recording studios. Thanks for the suggestion to try them out. Hopefully I will get the cables made up this weekend to get this bad boy running.

  31. If you believe what Bambi the dream worker or Aunty Flo talk about when interpreting dreams it would appear that the dream doesn’t really have much to do with the actor or actress in the actual dream but more of what you perceive that actor or actress to represent by allowing you to examine the stories from a distance that may be playing out within your own life.

  47. Reminds me of replacing a 350 in a 1 ton chevy truck first one ran great but 30 minutes in the oil pressure drops to ZERO, go to the dealer he checks it out orders replacement, paint and install replacement and same thing happens, install 3rd motor and all is well turns out there were cracks in the oil journals in the blocks they missed when rebuilding, I dont recall even hearing an apology Hope the van project gets better, definitely know how you feel, I absolutely hate an automatic transmission and have made a vow to never buy 1 again, Seems you always hear about them failing, I would MUCH rather replace a clutch pressure plate Good luck with it
