  8. Almost finished a pot of Community at my childhood home in Texarkana. So looking forward to recording the boogie woogie this evening and the day with John Tennison! Details on that in my "Retirement Project..." thread so I won't go into it again. Weather in Texarkana is world class. Cool, overcast, and dry. So nice! "This is the day the Lord has made. 10. Bad start to my day. I went out to mow the lawn and the Husqvarna I bought at Lowes three months ago won't start. A little trouble shooting and it looks like a shorted coil. Lowes says because it is more than 30 days and I didn't buy their warranty plan, they will do nothing. Husqvarna has a three year warranty but they are closed until Monday. What a PIA. On the up side, I don't have to mow now. Think I'll do some wood working. I need to cut the wood for the turntable project.

  14. Husqavarna used to make good motocross and enduro motorcycles in the 60's & 70's. I think they make pretty good chain saws now too. I don't have 1st hand experience though, my chain saws are all Stihl. I would take it back to Lowes and tell them to exchange it or you will never go to Lowes again and tell them you will give all your business to Home Depot or Menards. Rat bastards!

  16. I was looking at their trimmers glad to kno2 i should purchase the warranty.Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk Luther.... this is why you should spend a few more $$$ and buy good power tools from a REAL dealer with a service department and not a big box store. Have not had any issues with my Still FS85 bought new back in '98 with minimal maintenance. A few issues with Cub Cadet lawn tractor bought used - the electric clutch went out and muffler was too rusty to re-use ... has worked fine since though needs a new battery or more acid. Only a few issues with pro grade Simplicity walk behind snow blower. Mostly my own making - tried to push a railroad tie through it. Janked things up pretty good before it broke the shear pin. Then tried to push slush through it .... bad idea - bent up 2nd stage on that one. Other than that let it get out of adjustment bad enough it didn't go. Felt stupid on that one as I took it to a localish dealer as the dealer in town bit the dust. Great mechanic.... terrible at running a business. Good luck with your yard gear. I did have to "fix" my mower deck. Some ID10T had mowed over an old t shirt and get it wedged really tight into the blades and pulleys. Changed blades and much better... had previously mowed a chunk off the top of a rock I hadn't seen and had been clubbing grass for a while. Highly recommended to buy from store / dealer that services what it sells. Can't wait to see TT plinth pics. I have a vintage Garrard AT6 Mk II from a console with Shure M44E? or something like that. Has manual and plinth template. Worth using a good hunk of cedar, other word, or marble to make a new plinth? Need to inspect and clean up. Looks to be in real good shape. Have to get out my magnifying mirror etc and inspect the stylus.

  17. LF was in South Carolina yesterday and filled up for $1.93 a gallon. Gary.....can you take pictures of the tt maintenance you're doing as well as the new pre? Pulling all the vinyl down from the cabinets....man I've got some good stuff here I'll have to listen to one day Sorry about the lawn mower Luther....things like that frustrate me. My grass has slowed a bit. May wait till Monday to mow.

  18. Good morning everyone................... :emotion-44: Third MUG of Melitta dark roast going, BLACK, but may add a little raw sugar for the last one of the day... Sorry to hear about your mower going down Ward, my dad bought that same mower, no problems... Why do I have all the luck with small engine powered appliances? My old Toro with B&S 6.5 hp. engine has run the same for all 9 years of service. I even hopped up the governor a little for higher RPM, better suction of lawn debris into the bag, and BEAT the hell out of it in the fall mulching up leaves year after year..... Lucky... Best $400 spent back in '06... But I think the auto drive belt may need adj. finally or replacing. Reg. oil and air filter changes by myself am sure have helped, but orig. plug and points still.... At any rate, great that you are back onto the TT plinth. I am working on my old Dual 506... Brand new belt just arrived from Vintage Electronics, I will lube the platter bearing and clean it up a bit, see how it plays. I was telling Pezz how the adjustments of anti skate and weight is set EXACTLY like my Rega rp6, and this goes back to the 70ies !! I hope the health of loved ones and pets are progressing positively for those concerned. Mark, you made me smile with that 'Farmers' report TODAY, I am going to setup my Azur preamp and will have the grand unveiling and listening this evening over in RTM. Seems my buddy Pezz saw the new item in one of my photos from last night, as it sat freashly unboxed and sitting on top of the Velodyne sub... So, this morning's breakfast Skype opened up with that discussion.. He approved of the purchase choice . More in a bit.... Enjoy the day my friends... .............Gary

At this rate were going to be good at it. Rodney is excited and can't wait, he talks about it all the time.

  22. Good evening all friends! Todd, excellent photo! I will be joining you shortly, still having dinner and enjoying our Hammond Organ show with Joey D. on Real Jazz SXM radio... Me and the new Azur have arrived home safely, and I will unpackage and take photos this evening during my SRV contributions, but probably won't hook up until tomorrow during the day tests and breakin... (I'm told by my buddy who works at the store and sold me the gear, that there IS a period for break in.... at about 100 - 200 hours, sound will improve ) Anyway, my prayers out to Jackson...for a fast recovery... Ok, all for now.............I'm crossing over to RTM for the evening, but may check back too Enjoy your evening everyone...... .............Gary

  23. On a high note, my wife called Lowes Corporate and they said they will warranty it. The local people don't have a clue, so the corporate customer support said to give anyone who questions it their 800 number and they will handle it. They have logged it in their system, so anyone can pull the support ticket. I guess you have figured out from this that my wife is my better half and the one who takes care of me and she like audio. I love this woman. I did cut the wood for the the new turntable base. It is marblewood. It cuts like oak. I still need to add some corner supports that will house the spike feet and a cutout for an IEC power connector. Here is a quick picture during the mockup process using a little homemade jig.

  29. A few weeks ago, I picked up a 3rd RSW-15. The week was busy and I didn't have a chance to play with it. I brought them inside, washed the grills in the bathtub with laundry detergent, wiped the speakers down and took photos of them (my normal routine). Earlier this week, I hooked it up and it had a terrible hum and wouldn't play. An electronics repair friend came over and we discovered that one of the two jacks on the RSW-15 is bad. Simple fix....use the "RCA Out" jack instead of the "RCA In" jack. So the week has been busy and my wife was out for a bit getting groceries so I had about 45 minutes to see how adding a 3rd RSW-15 would sound in my setup. For now, I placed the RSW-15 between the left and center LaScala in front of my false wall. The other two Maple RSW-15's are in the front corners behind the false wall. I didn't re-calibrate since I may move the sub around a bit. I simply set it at the same volume as the other two RSW-15's and tried a few movie demos and a few songs with bass. I never dreamed that I would one day be sitting in my own dedicated home theater with nine (6) 15" woofers and (3) 15" passive radiators. I am ever so grateful to live in Florida and to have Craigslist. Without both, I would only have a fraction of the three setups that I have. Needless to say, this is what my face looked like after adding the third RSW-15. There is a VERY noticeable difference in the amount of bass and impact during both music and movies. I can feel the dual RSW-15's but I can REALLY feel it when I turn on the 3rd. And to think the third RSW-15 is pretty much out in the open, not getting any boundary gain from the front wall. It is about 4' closer to the center theater seat so being closer likely helps with the tactile feel from it. Here are a few photos of it in it's new home.

  40. Hey Ben, nice to see you. I’ll take one with the gals for memories sake. This will actually be the first time meeting them; but, i know Brian May, who i’ve met and talked to several times, said once (not about me) sometimes he’d rather someone approach him as a friend and just shake hands and say “hello” rather than want a photo or an autograph. makes sense to me. i will not ask for autographs or photos…i’ll let someone sign something if they offer; but, i will not ask.

I don't know much about 78 but aren't the RIAA type of EQ curves different for just about every record company? At least for the earlier 78s?

  44. That's great Jackson is home. I've been around sporadically, Chuck. Haven't had as much time to keep up here and post regularly. When I clicked on the C&C forum, it took me back 45 or so pages to August 2nd. I just went back about a week to try to get caught up. How is Jake doing? Marley was hurting big time last year from playing rough with Blaze outside. We initially gave him low-dose 81 mg aspirin not wanting to get his stomach upset. Our vet told us we should give him 325 mg SAFETY_COATED aspirin. He is about 100 lbs so he needed a higher dose, but the key was to get the safety-coated. Check with your vet. I know I wrote down notes about how many a day we could give him. I will look for them. I think we only gave him one or two a day spread out...morning and night after his meal. It definitely relieved his pain until he mended. Mark, can I borrow Mr. Crow? The last two mornings the crows have been in the woods cawking at each other like you wouldn't believe. Yesterday I yelled out the window as loud as I could and cawked back. They kept going for at least 10 minutes straight. I would have thought they would have cawked them selves sore. Same thing happened this morning. I went out in my underwear and beeped the car horn several times...didn't phase them. Went back inside and got my old Elmer Fudd side-by-side 20 gauge. Never had a good shot, but the war is on. Anyway, it would be nice if Mr. Crow could teach them some manners and respect and how to talk in the calm voice Mr. Crow talks with. Great job! Going to start jammin SRV pretty soon and most of the night. Any SRV fans (and I hope that is everyone) come on over to Right This Minute or the SRV Tribute thread tonight and this weekend and join the party!

  45. IMHO most people have never heard a good system. Those that have either purchased one, or wish they had. My daughter, now 16, has remarked on several occasions that the sound systems at her friends house $$$-$$$$, sounded flat and terrible. I guess they put the money into the interest payments. Several friends that have come over to sample my system before making their next purchase, almost dry humped the speakers and or TV on some of the sweeter female vocals. As to why some are critical of our hobby, I say "let them eat clock radios".

  46. Like most hobbies there is a vocal minority that take things to extremes and give everyone a bad name. There are stereo snobs, coffee snobs, scotch, cigars, cars, planes etc snobs out there. They always have perceived improvements that simple people like me cant hear or taste or feel....That is why there are $1000 audio cables or Kopi Luwak coffee etc. I am not into hi-fi, I consider myself a mid-fi guy. Like coffee, scotch and other items, when it comes to audio: the very top end stuff is wasted on me, but I know the bad stuff right away. If it makes me happy.... I'm going to drink my Quick Trip coffee listening to my Belle's (with cheap cables) and be happy as a clam. Cradledorf: GFY = Good For You???
