  1. I bought these LSI's about a year ago. They need just about everything, woofers, wiring, fuse holders, and major cosmetic restoration. I decided to get them to play music first and replaced everything that was either broke or needed replaced. Bought K-33 woofers off that auction site and the rest from Parts Express. Put them back together over the past week. Turned them on this morning. My oh my they sound much better than I ever thought they could. My wife, who upon first seeing them said never bring them in the house, told me those ugly things sound really nice. So it looks like the upper and lowers are going to get refurbished. Here's what they look like now: I'll post more pics as I break them down and begin to work on the cabs. Mark

  6. Thinking about this as it relates to the internet, Back when I grew up and there was no internet you were as good as your word. Break your word and you can bet you were called on it (the max effective range of an excuse was ZERO meters) I carry that philosophy over to my dealing on the net, and I tend to hold people that I deal with to that same standard. Fail to do what you say and I question your integrity (but I am reasonable stuff does happen), Fail 2 or 3 times and my trust is basically lost, Fail to do what you say and become a ghost (IE... fail to contact and at least offer a reason for failing to do what you said, and ignore my contact and request for information) Now we have an Issue I understand people have lives, and that things can come up, I follow the rule I wont say I will do it if I am not SURE I can, further if an emergency happens I will make an effort to notify / contact whom ever I am dealing with in a timely manner (timely means hours not days) How do you hold people responsible for a standard of conduct on the internet ?? I love it when people tell me I am straight forward and they Like dealing with folks this way, then that same individual pulls a ghost act for more than 3 days, (some may consider 3 days petty in the grand scheme But I would bet that same persons Boss would not consider it petty) and they have the nerve to be offended when called on it It is like a double standard today Hold ones self accountable for work etc...but shine on anyone you feel like you can get over on I am already on the boys about Honesty, It is a pet peeve of mine if you lie the punishment is much worse than just telling the truth

  8. Thanks guys. This forum is an absolute inspiration. I've never heard La Scala's before today. I've got a pair of Forte II's and think they sound pretty good. However, the LSI's are something different. I'm looking forward to some sanding, filling, more sanding and painting. Mark

  19. It doesn't work that way. You learn to play decently first, without popping pills, usually at a young age before pills or other are available. Or at least used to be. Once you get to a certain level, your brain and muscle memory takes over and you can still play decently despite popping pills (or other). Next in the progression if you let it get that far is that the pills (other) get out of hand and your playing then suffers. Then you either get over it and return or it's all downhill from there. But no one, I mean no one puts ketchup on a hot dog---wait I mean no one ever played decently from popping pills (other) without first being able to play decently beforehand.

  20. At some Point Ya just got to Trust. Does not mean you'll never get burned. I've had excellent Results in dealing with Forum members. So far everyone's word has been Good. We all start out with no reputation. Over time others will form their own opinions of us. Post count matters some. Man's recommendation of another man is more important. Still have to listen to that feeling in the gut though. Drive hundreds of miles to meet up with someone you just met online. Or invite someone You don't know into your home to listen. These are just a couple things that make this place feel like a home. john

  21. If you want veneer and be ready for the future how about the RP-280FA? It is fairly large, and has Atmos speakers built in. It has a matching veneer center if you so choose. Just throwing it out there. Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk

  22. Afternoon Gang 90+ today, better, but still the heat slows my day down, need 80s. Soo, Back for movies and Napping. Smoke is covering or area, first time with all the fires we have been having. Still alot to burn out there, we are not finished by a stretch, whole bunch of dry areas that are steep mountain/valleys. Iv prospected all over in years past, there is major hiking involved and steep? yeah, like with ropes. Mountain lions/bobcats/snakes, prospecting is fun. Always went during the rainy season, less critters that way, and NO fires.

  23. I don't believe in ghosts. Basically do what you say you will and have the cash in hand if the situation calls for it, but don't be duped either. If you agree to something, backing out due to a higher priority should be due to extreme issues, not cause your tired or a just a big fat lair.

  25. Just build 4x4 foot false corners and make them pretty. PWK put out the plans in the Dope from Hope, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that he had TWO false corners in his living room at home when I was there to hear his recordings. This will allow you to place them wherever you like.

  26. Will have to remember that one, thanks, I know you wouldn't. It's really s m o o o o t h. Going out of town again next Friday will be stopping at this little store in North Louisiana that carries a lot of brands, I am sure they will have it. Thanks, Christy started this by wanting Tequila Sunrises, the problem was the orange juice upset her stomach so we ended up just drinking shots which surprisingly didn't cause that. (sounds like to me)........ This is what led to trying different brands as shots. Thanks

  28. I'm thinking of making them look as close to original as I can. They will my my dream garage speakers for the foreseeable future. Mark Mark, How brave and ambitious are you?? There are plenty of pages on this forum with tutorial on doing your own veneering on these. I mean, they can't really get worse and you just might end up with something the Wife wants inside the house !! Roger

  33. oldtimer got it right. Joe Walsh, for example, learned to play several instruments when he was young, including the oboe and clarinet. He moved on to the guitar, and later to vodka. Lots of vodka. When I saw him play twice in 2012, Joe mentioned that he'd only been drunk once, but it lasted 38 years. While he was touring in New Zealand in 1989, he started to straighten out, and after blacking out on a flight to Paris in 1994, he has been sober ever since. This was a problem at first, because he'd long ago forgotten how to play sober. After quite a bit of practice, and with encouragement from his wife, Marjorie Bach, he recorded his first "sober" record, Analog Man, in 2012. Joe's song One Day at a Time is about his drinking and how he got over it. Joe Walsh - One Day At A Time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlfCyHbLdpI Now he seems to have finally found happiness. Joe Walsh - Family: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCqWMk8jXeY His looks seem to be improving, since he looks to be losing the growing boozer nose he used to have.

  34. Got the car loaded up with a few pieces of gear for the record show today and tomorrow. I belong to the River City Audio Society and we have a booth at the show. We will be playing some tunes and giving away a new record player. So basically a bunch of people geeking out on vinyl and telling tall tales.

  35. Well I got a set of palladiums that will best them both buuuut if you have the space I'd rather have the cornwalls myself. Love the punchy bass from the 15" pro woofers. Plus requires less power. Plus you also get the walnut option which would be the only option for me. If your wanting a home theater out of the deal spending 3-4k on a new set of cornwalls I would highly suggest thinking over my palladiums. Show them to your wife. My wife loves the finish on the but wasn't too sure on the shapes of them. Now she thinks they are the most beautiful speakers she has ever seen. Plus they sound as good as they look in my opinion. 6k and I can ship. We can work out shipping details. Pm me if your interested.
