  1. Happy Monday, you all are hilarious! It was fun catching up! Jason, hope things aren't serious. After a mostly snow free winter, 10 inches on Saturday. Warmed to 45 yesterday - supposed to hit the 50's this week so for now.., soup. The Stars lined up this weekend when my family was gone more than two hours and watched the latest mission impossible movie with the volume way up. :-) I was pleasantly surprised, my low expectations served me well! Have a great week!

  2. I can't even like on that. How incredibly sad. My nanny "grandmother" was a very religious woman. She saw to it that we attended church regularly, regardless of my mother and father's lifestyle. I once got a Bible with my name engraved on it for attending church every Sunday for a year straight while living with my grandmother.

  3. I remember being young (both parents died when i was 8 so it had to be before then), i was sent to bed and thought that i saw a shadow at my bedroom door. I called for help and my Grandmother told me it was the devil coming to get me. She did love me though.

  4. My Great Grandfather brought home a Singer treadle machine by horse and wagon 1910ish. It was a huge investment for them as they were very poor. They literally lived off the land as farmers and later as moonshiners. My Grandmother told the story of its arrival and how they all watched it get unloaded. She described how elated her mother was as it marked the end of hand sewing all their clothes. Anyway, I now have that cool piece of family sewing history.

My grandmother made all of my clothes until I was in my teens. I vividly remember her making me flannel nightgown when I was about five years old, all the while warning me not to stand by the open flame heater. Nightgown hadn't been completed five minutes when I backed up to the heater. Needless to say the gown caught on fire...I will never forget the terror in my grandmother's face as she rushed to put the fire out. How I miss the love she always showed me.

  9. "Would love to know what kind of machine/model number etc???" That is a Pfaff 130 born in 1953, West Germany. I have several old sewing machines including a 1922 Rocking Arm Singer Patcher, but this Pfaff is by far my favorite. Unfortunately the 130s have been discovered and now bring a premium on Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/PFAFF-130-Heavy-Duty-Industrial-Sewing-Machine-Germany-Leather-Denim-Canvas-GUC/311466382137?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150604093004%26meid%3Dc144cd662ec640c4a8328a6137313b1f%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D131733051578&rt=nc

  14. I kind of had a rude awakening this morning proving to me the more we travel in this hobby the little we actually improve... My 9 year old grandson that has been living with us for the last years was doing so exceptionally good in school that I decided to do a major overhaul on his bedroom about a month ago with a big screen TV for Xbox and TV, I also decided the kid loves music so why not put some of my spare speakers that I seem to refuse to get rid of along with a trouble free Kenwood KA-5001 SS integrated amplifier and Scott tube tuner.. Since the room is only 10' X 11' I decided it was the perfect place for my very first Klipsch Heritage speakers! 1984 Heresy! I enjoyed these immensely early on in my klipsch audio travels and remember saying many times those little speakers do something special that large speakers just can no do! I woke up this morning about 4:30 for some reason. Sat on the couch for about a 1/2 hour deciding if I could get back to sleep and decided against it. Made a nice pot of Swedish Skanerost coffee (thanks for turning me onto Paul). My grandson is at his mom's for a visit this weekend and I decided I go in there and listen to the Heresy's..... All I can say is Heresy's in a small room are spectacular! I spent 3 1/2 hours listening through tons of my music collection. My wife briefly got up at 6:30 took one look at me and said your a nut job! I said yea but you love me! Cheers!

  22. As said above, it's about what works for you. Like many things in audio there is no A/B or anything like it that will reveal useful info. You have to live with it and you'll either find that, after a period of time, you like one or the other better or don't and the "why" will be hard to quantify if not impossible. I believe that the mix of clinicality/transparency of SS and the clinicality/transparency of horns is one too many. As much as an argument can be made for "merciless transparency" have at least one side a bit relaxed in that are makes a lot more good, but perhaps not world class recordings much more enjoyable. The number of recordings one can not tire of when played through equipment providing the most absolute accuracy science and skill can provide is very, very small. For that reason, I prefer tubes with Heritage speakers. Dave

  23. The horn in the black box, is a P. Audio PH4525/P. Audio BMD750 and the two that do not have boxes are PRV WG45-50 with the EV DH1A driver. They sound ok, but need some equing. I noticed that some have had good luck with the P. Audio horn. However I was looking for something without a diffraction slot. That is when I stumbled upon the PRV.

  24. Well, since this is a coffee thread, yes. I don't think they had outgassed enough the first time I tried them. Today was much better, I really enjoyed them. I was going to wait till the flavor kind of stabilizes to give a final impression.

  26. Its really an excellent quality Cheddar Cheese. As good as the best Cheddar's from the UK, Wisconsin or Oregon. At $22/30 oz can its a steal and will last forever aging slowly in the can until open. Totally agree with the quality!! My wife went to WSU, as well as many friends and other family, so I've enjoyed this great cheese for quite a number of years.

  28. Yep. The manifold to converter pipe is the nut I broke my socket on. We ended up heating each one with a torch to get them off. After my deep socket broke I had to snap the ends of the studs off so I could get my shallow socket on the nuts as well. a lift and air tools probably would have cut a couple hours off the job. All Data only pays 1.2 hours per side. How bad could it be? (I said to myself).

  29. Stress test, that is what i had. Doctor says my heart is in great shape but I'm not so sure. I smoke as well, roll my own in fact. Going to follow up with my doc next week and hope to get more information of what the issue could be. Jason, highly recommend you see another doctor....I've had these issues for years, so I have lots of experience with the symptoms, tests, etc. Jaw tightness, chest tightness, shortness of breath is very typical of a blocked blood flow in or near the heart. Don't mess around with this, or put it off.

  32. Tried to like this but it will not let me, I guess it know how much I hate working on cars ? He had exhaust leaks at his manifold to head gaskets. As we were pulling them anyways, he swapped them out for headers. We were using hand tools and I still broke a Snap On socket. Luckily he comes by here on Mondays and I have a new one already.

  36. Forget what you read and believe what you hear with our own ears would be my advise...in reality there is plenty of tube and SS gear that sounds great...tubes do thing SS can't and SS does things tubes can't.... It's all about trade offs and what is impotantbto YOU and YOUR ears! Trust your ears!

  38. Floaters by themselves are not that big a deal. I've had the odd one since I was a teenager. Lately, they seem to be darker, but that's about it. Bright spots or lights are a very different story. My optometrist has told me that if I see anything like that, I should call him immediately, regardless of time of day, since they indicate a problem with the retina, as other posters have mentioned. If you see bright lights in your vision, don't waste time wondering about them. Get professional help immediately, to minimize the chances of losing your sight, to a greater or lesser degree.

  46. Same thing happened to me about five months ago. Went to the eye doctor the next day. Complete exam revealed some "thinning;" but, no retina tear. Doctor compared the pictures to ones taken five years ago, and there was no change. I was getting flashes of light in one eye, only when i looked to the side. Of course, then i kept looking to the side to see if it would do it again. Then it started driving me crazy. Just like this constant ringing in my ears...if i think about it, it becomes VERY annoying.

  47. I actually have a few very late 60's to early 70's Kenwood SS gear. KA-5001, KA-6000 and a KA-7002. I also have a really good matching KT-7001 Tuner. I even have a really rare pair of optional full wood cabinets.. Bought most ofbtge stuf for $20 each at an estate sale Kenwood never gets the credit they are do...for SS they make great gear! For the most part I've never cared for the tube gear they made. Heck I even have a complete Kenwood system in the GMC truck. Sounds great for a car system

  49. Now see that. You digital guys can't even count to two, which could be a problem if you are trying to run your ones and zeros through two speakers. I've often thought that given the advances in material science over the years, better materials to make a record should have come along. I only presume that with the small market for vinyl that no company has wanted to spend the bucks to do the R&D. Maybe with vinyl's revival some company will come along with a better wax formula. I welcome HD vinyl if it comes to pass. Sounds like a more accurate mastering process will result in better playback. For you digital guys, think of it as DVD--A and SACD, better bits and pieces.
