  1. Morning gang... Again thank you all for the good vibes... really means alot to us.... It's late and the coffee is just finishing brewing....I can hear it... and The BOSS is waiting for me to get up and fix it for her..... OK I'm back just took the coffee to her Before all this crapp went down The BOSS would do the coffee in the morning... but now she has so much on her mind and so much to deal with I've taken on that major task... My wife deserves to have coffee served to her We have a new animal in the neighborhood......... It's a damn Rooster Yea a Rooster.... Now we live in a rural county her in Md... and there are still alot of farms... The shop is right across the street from a cow farm... It's quite nice in the summer we can sometimes here the cows moooooing. But our house is kinda a residential neighborhood.... Now the guy right behind my house has a small farm with miniature horses and the guy across from him has the farm with this Rooster... It's really funny... we started hearing this thing a few months back... Now he's not right out my bedroom window so it doesn't wake us up... but you can still hear him crowing away.... I've heard him as early as 3:00 am and he will go sometimes till about noon....lol lol..... Yea it's really funny... When me and The BOSS are getting ready in the morning and we hear him we bust out laughing and I will sometime start crowing like a rooster.... lol lol Just about anything for a laugh I'm rolling out soon... going to the audio shop to pick up the rest of my gear... They were able to fix my Sony ES 801 CD player with the "parts" one I took to them a few weeks back... and..... and..... My Carver TFM-55 is all fixed and ready..... really happy about this...... when I was on the phone with them they asked me "so what ya bringing us next Mark?" lol lol .... Told em I'm kinda run out of audio money for awhile ..... But that's OK cuz I got alot of my gear fixed up and I snagged that Carver 4.0t from them a few weeks back.... So yea man I'm good.... I think the next thing I'll be working on is the X-over's in some of my speakers. I'm also on the hunt for some Pro-subs...Hey they will fall into my lap OK gang.... I'll check in later.... a good weekend to all MKP :-)

  2. Hey folks, Happy Saturday. Mustang and MKP Boss ... hang in there and prayers coming your way. I've been there too. As tough as these situations can be, I found that it's also a gift to be present for an ailing parent. I think you're doing all the right things and will never regret it. Have a good day, all. Cheers.

  8. Sadly, they found a mass in mom's brain yesterday and she was taken to Cleveland Clinic this afternoon. It looks like my plans for Providence have been changed to some time in the city of the burning lake. I plan on keeping most of my clothes on, but if I get a wild hair all you folks that have no idea what I look like will never know. wvu80 will know, but I trust his discretion. Sorry for your news. She's seeing some of the best up there.

  9. Well a little excitement at the LF's house yesterday. My helper was vacumning where the carpet pad had been and stirred up some dust causing the smoke alarms to go off. The security system was still active but security did not have the new telephone number to call so a fire truck and 3 fireman responded Hoping this Saturday morning finds all on the mend. Cheers Ladies and Gents

  14. Got the RF-7 II yesterday. Here are some initial impressions vs. my recollection of the RP-280F that I sold last week. The have the black B-stock veneer, but the veneer is flawless. I have no idea what why they would be considered B-stock. These things are large and in charge. The have a commanding visual presence. My wife and daughter are out of town visiting my wife’s sister. My oldest son is staying with my parents this weekend. So, it’s just my youngest son and me at home this weekend. This allowed me to do about 5 hours of break-in at a decent volume without bothering anyone. I watched several tracks from 3 concert videos last night after the 5 hour break-in: Clapton Planes, Trains and Eric blu-ray, Cream Royal Albert Hall blu-ray, and Eagles Hell Freezes Over DVD. The system is 2-channel for A/V purposes in a large family room. A Rotel RX-1052 supplies the power and an Emotiva DC-1 handles DAC duties. First, the bass. Wow! It hits hard and deep. No contest vs. the RP-280F. The bass hits you in the chest as if a good sub (or subs) were playing…and this in in a pretty big room (approx. 18’x50’) that is open to other rooms. The RF-7 II create some sympathetic buzzes and rattles in the room that I will have to address! Second, no fatigue from sharpness like I had at times with the RP-280F. This is huge because I had some concerns that the RF-7 II would be as or more fatiguing than the RP-280F. I wonder if the higher horn position on the RF-7 II is a factor; the horn is well above ear level when seated. So far I am very impressed with the RF-7 II and consider them a substantial upgrade vs. the RP-280F. More to come as I get more time with them.

  16. Good morning, It's a rainy Saturday morning in Southeast MI. Thinking of you and your mom MG. Be strong for her and yourself. Even with Sunday delivery of my new Bunn, coffee must be brewed the hard way today and tomorrow morning. The results are quite good, but too much DIY and delayed gratification first thing in the morning.

A friend was cleaning out for his move and came across these that he had forgotten about. He gave them to me for previous favors I have done for him. Gotta love karma.

  19. I'm going to see Todd Rundgren tonight and I hope I don't experience this. Especially since he's playing at one of the best acoustic rooms in the world, The Palladium in Carmel Indiana. Rundgren always had pride in the great sound of his shows, but I've never seen him at a venue like this, I'm excited

  20. Just acquired a pair RB75 from another Klipsch head friend of mine, black ash, great condition. Being conditioned to the sound of Fastlane KHorns I'm thoroughly pleased and impressed with the 75's. These things flat get with it. Running with 5-6 watts of single ended EL84 proved they are by no means a toy. They fill the same rather large space quite well. Really enjoying these 75's and in no hurry to set them aside.

  21. It's a rainy Saturday afternoon in Southeast MI, so I thought I'd amuse myself at your expense and bore you with our recent adventures at a business convention in Nashville. The theme of the convention was "Empowered." It was announced that there would be a superhero themed costume party. To prepare for that, I hit a ubiquitous Halloween store (in a closed Blockbuster) days after Halloween to get three cheap costumes. I bought the green masks and fedoras for next to nothing, as a token gesture to the costume party. Separately, Nancy, the short one, purchased three cardboard "M"s at Michael's, with a plan to play off the "Empowered" theme. Once I saw those, the wheels started turning. The Internet offered cheap green 12v LED strips, which were happy to get by on 9v. A little cutting, soldering, green fluorescent paint, a trip to Radio Shack (next year to be a Halloween store) and some Dollar Store 9v batteries and we were in business. We were M-powered Man, M-Powered Woman and M-Powered Lad. There were some excellent costumes, but, in a field cluttered with Captains America, Wonder Women, Supermen, Supergirls/women, etc. the powered Ms won best overall. Unfortunately, there was no money involved, only the satisfaction of victory.

  22. Good Saturday afternoon everyone............just checking in, looks like lots of caring and prayers going around, and let me add mine too ! Ok, JUST got the tomato garden in for the season, and now in the kitchen listening to an Ella F. vocal jazz album of her classis via laptop... Time to help Chris prep for his famous and 'twice a year' request by our motorcycle riders group to bring dill, potato salad for our dinner and ride event tomorrow! So, I will start that and get it ready. He does up a from scratch dressing for this, and it is very tasty! ..............I do all the bullwork and do as I am asked.......... So, the music helps with the task and I think an early glass of vino may be in order, even though it is only 3pm. here on the east coast :emotion-46: Ok, back at it.......... I will check in again in a bit.............Chuck, if you want to join us again tonight in RTM, we will be there... Pezz and I will be spinning up some Mike Oldfield there shortly after 8pm. eastern... ...............Gary

  25. Tried that one after you told me about it and it was good, also tried about 4-5 others that week. After a few nights of "trying" them they all seem to run together but shots for $90 or $500 a bottle they can keep it with my cheap taste buds, a night of those could cost me thousands if not careful, and I'm not always careful. Bet its good Like Patron and others compared to Jose Cuervo, yes it is better, but over 2+ times better ? Considering I don't just have one or two shots. But for some reason tequila does very little to me, beer 4-5 and I'm silly and get a headache, can't explain it ? Reminds me of a bar on the beach once, tequila shots were $2, $3 and $6 I asked what he recommended and he said for just one or two get the better if more than that get the cheaper one.

  26. The standard potentiometer included in the kit is actually quite good. It is the common carbon-composition type which, while being sonically very decent and satisfactory (at least to me), the problem one often encounters is comparatively poor channel-to-channel tracking between the two sections. What I have done in the past when building a preamp, integrated amplifier, passive inline attenuator, etc., is to buy several (since they are very inexpensive) and measure each in order find the one with the closest value tolerance (50k, 100k, and so on). The Alps VCs are overall much better controls in this respect, as of course are those consisting of fixed resistors in stepped controls (which Transcendent Sound) also used to offer as a kit. I use the blue Alps almost exclusively now, though a year or two ago completely rebuilt a LEAK ST20 stereo power amplifier with a stereo carbon strip pot that had essentially identical tracking between the two sections. it was used in place of the usual grid-leak resistor which sets the input impedance to the amplifier. I have also built the Grounded Grid for a friend in Europe, who asked for not only dual-mono pots (linear taper) for improved L/R balance, but also a master volume control (log taper) to be used for general, day-to-day listening once the the two input attenuators had been set at a desired level. It required modification of the faceplate, but worked quite well. So great! enjoy your equipment! If you like the GG, which I also do, at some point you may like to consider the much more recent TS Masterpiece. It's definitely a far more involved build, but is an extraordinary component.

  27. I don't know quite where to begin. Not sure if the OP is complaining about the mix (the blend of the various instruments), the overall amplitude of the sound at his location, or distortion in the sound system. Modern sound systems in concert halls are complex. Really complex. There are generally several systems in place. Mains, outfills, infills, delay speakers - each designed to integrate into the whole, and to provide satisfactory sound mix from anywhere in the hall. Most rooms will have areas that are not covered by the main sound system 'hang' so these other ancillary systems are in place to fill in. In my experience, sometimes the seats up front don't get enough attention from the front fills, so the stage noise (drumming and guitar amps) are still heard overly loudly over the vocals. Front fill mixes should be a separate mix to contain instruments not providing already ear-bleeding levels on stage (acoustic guitars, keyboards, voices etc). As to overall volumes, this has been addressed somewhat by the introduction of line array speakers. These are the vertically long systems of similar shaped boxes that act together, but also are 'steerable' by use of electronic digital signal processing. Each speaker box has it's own amp(s) with built in DSP to control volume, eq, even phase, which can all be utilized to give very similar volume/eq to any seat in the house. Used to be that the patrons up front were bludgeoned to death so the folks in the back could have decent sound levels. Not so much any more, we've conquered that. However sometimes it's too loud for me, so I take my custom -15 db earplugs to ALL shows, and wear them probably better than 50% of the time. Our auditory sense is a funny thing, and the brain can make up for a lot of shortcomings, I highly recommend wearing good quality ear protection at shows, after a song or two you won't notice anything different in the mix because your brain has 'made up' the missing frequencies. A reasonably priced set of non-foamy types are the Etymotic brand. They don't mess with the high frequencies as much as foam EAR type plugs, but not as expensive as custom molded. I know some guys who love the fit of their Klipsch Image in-ears that they just wear them, not hooked up to any source, as an alternate means of hearing protection. Sound guys DO care, they have a lot to do in a little time. Generally I've seen them with multiple microphones through the hall prior to a sound check, running pink noise through the systems to get a good balance and check frequencies for room nodes, feedback etc. They then usually run a few favorite and familiar songs through the system and walk the room/hall. I've done what you've done in commenting to them from time to time during intermission, sometimes to good effect. Take into account that you must get to the dude while he's at the desk, NOT actively mixing, and they take breaks at intermission too, so usually the dude you see there at break isn't the mix engineer at all.

  46. had mom back in the er. everything checked out, so it must be a virus. these trips are getting smoother, and the staff is getting nicer. everyone is so shocked to see mom with family that loves her and doesn't leave her. they said it is customary that families just drop them off. when someone bends over mom to do something, she always reaches up and rubs them. and they always melt. we now have home health care: nurse for vitals, bather & physical therapy. makes everything easier. everyone is surprised when they come in because we have mom SET UP. it is very validating. even my daughter is happy that they are coming to help. mom is hanging in as are we, and we have a handle on the resources and have to make fewer demands, and can now pleasantly request. i guess i have "arrived." lol have a good day. and hang in there.
