  5. Morning gang 70 Degrees@ 5 Am, very nice They say today will be triple digits, yeah right. last two days have been 100+. At least FOX has larger Balls, closer to reality. Our lovely 0roville Dam disaster is moving right along, they are NOT fixing anything, they are busy pointing fingers. You see, that what this SS state does. 110 cement trucks called in (and paid for) for the spillway foundation project 20+ years ago. 60 trucks show up, lets do the job with 60 eh?, pocket the residual. That is how Calif works. Coffee should be perked, id say this is a three cup day......

I'm asking that you PM me your email address in the hopes that dtel and I can keep abreast of your "happenings". I understand if you choose to "fall off the map", but hope that you would appreciate the folks that have come to consider you a friend.....hoping to meet up with you in person one day.....I don't want to lose good friends. 17. Elden and I are so honored to know that our efforts with the Museum are being recognized in such a special way. We can not thank @pappyIII for appreciating our efforts.. To purchase the Rosewood Hereseys with a Khorn membership in our name is truly an honor. It took me a few days to post this because I was just overwhelmed with emotions that someone would recognize and appreciate our efforts. Thank you @pappyIII, This honor and recognition means more than we could ever express....to know that our names and our efforts will be preserved on the walls of the museum is truly an honor. Thank you! @dtel Just know your recognition is greatly appreciated @pappyIII

  18. Good day, I am seeking some guidance on the topic of room treatment. I feel my system is at a point where the most beneficial changes will come from addressing the listening space rather than component tweaks. My goal is to use treatments to make my listening space seem to have more depth, and to reduce or treat as many negatively influencing elements as possible. In my little bit of spare time I have done some reading about bass traps for the corner and ceiling, absorption panels for first reflections and diffusion for the back walls and everywhere else. Most resources I have found seem to prescribe different combinations of all of these elements. All of the resources I found are addressing direct radiating speakers that are out of the corners. I am using la scala clones that are in the corners. Hopefully this will spawn some discussion that will specifically address room treatments that are relevant to corner placed speakers and their interaction with the corner and the increase or decrease in performance that room treatments may cause. I do not use any components that have any built in room correction software, so all correction will have to be achieved through room treatments. One common issue mentioned by most threads and many "professional" resources is over treating and under treating. These are claimed to be the common mistakes made by those creating a "hi-if" listening space. The mention of electronic measurement is mentioned by some and totally ignored by others. REW gets quite a bit of mention on this forum and many others as the go to for in room measurement. Unfortunately for me I can not use REW because All I have for measurement is an iPad and iPhone. I did purchase a umik-1, however in my haste I did not realize that REW is not compatible with iPads. Oops. Faber makes measurement software that is designed for i devices but I have not found much discussion of its implementation. The software is not free which is my guess as to why it is not as popular. If anyone has any experience with the faber software or any others that are compatible with the umik and I devices please share. This does not have to be ultra high end software, just good enough to get useful measurements. I know there are many threads on this topic but I have not found any that have similar discussions about a room and system similar to mine. I have a relatively small room with some openings to other rooms and a large window that is located at a first reflection point for one channel. I will attach some photos of my room so the description will make sense. My system consists of the afore mentioned la scala clones, a 5ish watt SET, a stepped attenuator as a pre, an ERC-3 and a long style table tuba sub that fires towards the ceiling in one of the rear corners. I have some waf considerations when it comes to treating the room, but I think I can blend most treatments in an aesthetically pleasing way that should keep me off the radar. I would like to take the RIGHT measurements before I start building and placing any kind of room treatments. This is where the info I have found on the process appears to stray off in different directions. I know at least a few of you have some experience on this topic, so please share. Of course if there are any resources that any of you know of that are more specific my setup, please share them as well. The following are the first steps of the process as I understand it so far, (which could be totally wrong or missing several components). To begin, The first measurement should be in an untreated room running a signal through the full frequency range at a specific spl to get a good baseline. Both channels need to be measured individually and then both together. Ok, if that is correct, then here come the questions. Do these measurements need to be taken from the listening position at ear height? Do I leave the sub on for all of these measurements? What precisely should I be measuring for? Am I measuring the decay time of frequencies and then addressing those that appear to last longer than the others? How do I determine which treatment is appropriate for those frequencies and where they need to be placed? Is it trial and error? Is it build, place, measure repeat? Did I get any of that right? What did I miss? Thanks in advance.

  22. How "bad" a room is can often be defined roughly by clapping very loud (one clap at a time). You hear "ringing" when you do this in a bad room, and the worse the room the more the ringing. I would guess, depending upon where you stand when you clap, you have a pretty serious ring and the sound of the ring itself may be smearing. Go into a different room now and clap and hear the difference. it can be incredible to hear the contrast. I've spent a lot of time in the last 9 months treating one of my theaters, I would be happy to share what I learned. As far as building the panels, I recently built another set using Roxul 60, and I will tell you in the room you are describing, you want to use as many 4" thick panels as possible. if a compromise needs to be reached, then 2" is the minimum but I strongly recommend 4". There's a lot of long explanations to things but the short version is, when treating a room and doing it minimally (as in, not using 20+ panels to really go at it) you need to trap the bass frequencies at least as much as the higher frequencies. To do so you need thicker panels. 3" is the bare minimum and 4" is really kind of the standard for what is often called a "broadband absorber." If you could share a sketch of the room, or some pictures, it would go a long way towards figuring out the basics of treatment. The most common issues to treat, of roughly equal importance are: 1) Early reflections. This is what hits your ears right after the direct sound from the speakers. Typically these are on the side walls between you and the source. They are also located, depending upon the room and layout, on the front wall, the back wall, the ceiling, and the floor. People often use a mirror test to gauge these, where a mirror is held flat against a wall and moved until the person sitting at the listening position can see the speaker. At roughly that point, there is an early reflection that should be treated. 2) Low frequency decay times. Bass traps, or really most often, broadband absorbers are used to reduce the decay time in the low frequency region. As much as you think you hear echoes and reflections of the higher tones (you do), the bass in the room is an even bigger killer of clarity and comfortable listening. Tell me you have only 2 panels to deploy without me knowing much else, I recommend you place them at the side wall early reflection points to absorb reflections in as many listening seats as possible (you may need 2 per side if there is a big listening area). Given only 2 I would again say I want 4" panels but if the wife won't have it, 2" is still OK (but misses out on absorbing the low end). I would then want to deploy as many broadband (4") absorbers as possible in other places, ideally some in the corners if the wife can allow it. Pictures or a sketch would help tremendously, having an idea what you can and can't change would help, and knowing how many panels you are building or think you could get into the room before the wife explodes would help too

  25. It is a Technics DC servo automatic SLBD20D. Cost new was retail around $150. Got the stock P-34 cartridge head. It is in nice condition and, sounds really a lot better than it should. Good reviews ! Will do an upgrade before long, maybe. It is forgiving and loves minty to good, although fair works. The phono stage is quite nice for a 1980 integrated amp.. a NEC/Japan model, era.

  32. Oh yeah - tell that to my dumb asss neighbor who lets their dog(s) out to bark at 6am! Last year I unleashed "electronic" Fido on them. Ran a speaker outside connected to computer, found an irritating Youtube clip of dogs continually barking, turned 'em Loud and allowed Fido to run free for an hour or so. Dogs didn't bark very long after that. I may be ready to once again unleash the hounds. Sic 'em boy ---

  33. I love them, and I'm blown away by how great they sound. It's no wonder they've never stopped selling them. They're in really good shape, and look brand new. There are some scratches on the bottom, but that's the only visible wear. I think I'm the first person to ever take the grilles off.

  37. You always want several of the most capable subs you can afford. I often recommend 2 lesser subs to folks wanting to stay in a budget. More subwoofers will have more cone area and thus will generate XX dB with less cone motion (and stress) each. That will generate less distortion. Having had 1, then 2, and now 4 of the same subs, I can heartily recommend multiple subs. By being in different places they will not all excite a single room mode and you will get more even bass response throughout the room, in addition to prodigious output! You can always turn the throttle back, but you can't turn it up, if you're already max'ed out.

  42. So, here we go We have received numerous messages from forum members that wanted to be included at the Founder's Club level for memberships. In last week's meeting with the Executive Committee meeting of the Klipsch Heritage Museum Association I relayed the messages I had receive from forum members regarding our top level memberships. I informed the Executive Committee that I would contact our original seven founding members and seek their opinions on opening more memberships at the Founding level. I told the Executive Committee that I would require unanimous approval from all seven original founding members. I am pleased to announce that after detailed discussions....all seven founding members are in agreement....open the next level to assure we can meet our budgetary needs this year. I thank each of you for putting the museum before yourselves. We need folks like you, your input and comments are greatly appreciated. Therefore...we have established all seven members of our Left Channel Founder's Level and are opening up our Right Channel Founder's Level, with a Center Channel to possibly follow. I am pleased to announce that @minermark is our #1 Right Channel Founder's Club member.....I can not express my gratitude to each of you for supporting our efforts. Your memberships and contributions are greatly appreciated and will guarantee this story is preserved. In the words of dtel "this is a story worth preserving". Without your support we can not preserve the history...so once again...I challenge each of you to step up. Thank you.
