  1. It was right around 24 years ago I was recovering from a neck operation and was dealing with issues with a set of Klipsch Computer speakers.... I wandered into this forum looking for support for those and stumbled into this 2 channel section......guys were in here "Mobile Homeless" and "Allan Songer" being a few of the most vocal talking about Klipsch and Tubes, which quickly peaked my interest since I learned basic tube electronics from helping my father work om WWW II ham radio gear, he refurbished, used and sold as a sideline from his normal home appliance business which I also worked with him on in my youth. So "Mobile Homeless" was keen on the lowly low quality parts EICO HF-81, "Allan Songer" was a fan of the HH Scott line of vintage amps for a decent build quality and awesome phono section. My father told me EICO brand test equipment was garbage...I quickly gravitated toward the better built and handsome looking Scott line of amplifiers. So, on eBay I bought a pristine condition 222C that the moron eBayer packed improperly so the face plate ended bent over in shipping. I forced him into a deep discount and kept it. Which led me to decide to see just what I could do to improve it. In steps "Mark Deeneen" of Juicy Music Audio and famed Paragon preamplifier of the 1970's which none of knew that was who he was at the time. He takes me under his magical electronics wing! Teaches me most of what I know about tube audio! All the while "Mobile Homeless" obviously feels threatened a resident "tube guy" of the forum! Those 2 proceed to fight for my musical sole LOL!!! Man were those days a riot around here... All the while folks were watching as a reported what I was doing to the 222C... I started getting asked "would you do one for me". I did a few for the part and shipping cost no labor or profit. It mushroomed out my control! I was released back to work (home improvement contractor) and still did the refurbing for profit as a part time thing for about a year! Then I had a recurring neck problem and was told by the Neurosurgeon that I needed to stop working over my head or with any vibrating power tools. I talked with my wife and decided to take the leap and turn my new hobby business into my new full-time business! Man did that work out great! So fast forward 24 years I have become forced into semi-retirement from what seems like never ending nagging health issues to the point I have not taken in new work in 4 years! At 62 I was approved for Federal SS disability in 7 weeks without even seeing a doctor because my health records were that bad in 2021... including lung issue from smoking for years but had quit and sucking solder fumes for 20+ years. Here I am recovering from Total Knee replacement surgery my nagging health issues have stabilized from good health care providers! I design a ventilation system for my shop and I'm back here offering my services starting two months from now. Isn't it strange how things come full circle in life sometimes! Cheers Craig www.nosvalves.com PS forgot one detail I damn near died at home with COVID in 2020 of course it found my weak spot those lungs! But I'm a stubborn Bxxxxxxx In 2016 it was the Flu that almost got me...7 days in the hospital...

  2. Blah a day of football and a crock pot of bean soup. Temps dropping into the mid to low 20's tonight and a chance of snow coming into the week. Think I'll head up and crash. Yungest called last evening from Phoenix and the lil camera shop she goes to was having a black Friday sale. Couple decent deals on shrink wraps of film and cheap developing cards. I think she fished me. Told me it wouldn't take her Visa cause it was down but WOULD take my Mastercard since it was working ok. Only cost me 200$. 😂 Checked in this morning prior to the OSU game to get her set up w/my old camera gear to use @ the Alumni Club game day only to find out she didn't know if she was going. She'd been out shooting wild broncos she said. lolol Seeing any similarities w/the film/developing cards yet? lol Must be a new kid in town. Her green beret was going to head over to Israel to make some fast cash so she kicked him to the curb. Told me she showed him some of my gear and said he was all impressed. lolol Prolly figured I'd do some nosin on him. Then I saw her doin some Texas two-step w/some big dude in a bar this morning on fb. Who the heck knows? Maybe he had a dog.

  5. Had a busy weekend , on friday evening I visited a good old friend of mine in a neighborhood city , took me close to two hours till arrival as there was an accident on the autobahn, we talked a lot, spent a good time till early morning with some bottles of beer and listend to his records and his tube gear , was back home at 4 am. Yesterday evening I had a female friend in my apartment, we cooked together , had a bottle of wine and talked a lot lot, she left at 1 am. Now I just arrived at home coming back from an audio friend , he bought some from my audio cables and I set up his new audio gear, placed the speaker in their correct position. He´s happy now . I´ll have some leftovers from yesterday and will have a little dinner now . Weather is bad cold and rain, so time to make it comfy at home for the rest of the evening .

  6. Alright George, that one is pretty good though. The first Van Halen was played over and over by everyone that I knew the year it came out. We had never heard anything like it with our exposure being what it was. Their first two concerts in town were sold out fast and standing room only at the coliseum!

  10. I took delivery from Jim Clark a few days ago to try in my system and he's not getting it back. Plenty of slam and it's as quiet a tube amp as I've ever had, including VTL and ARC. Hell, it's quieter than my solid state Conrad Johnson. Just love it.

That makes me cringe I'm back to eating lasagna. One serving of stuffing left. Pies are gone.If there is enough breast left, turkey enchiladas... for those interested a couple cups of pulled/diced white meat sour cream green onion cheddar cheese green chile red bell pepper cilantro sliced black olives that's the filling. it's a really good turkey salad if you don't want to wrap it in flour tortillas. Line in a pan and cover with green enchilada sauce. Bake at 350f until bubbly

  14. Last night was good. Country music isn’t normally my preferred genre but Andy Buckner put on a great show. However, my buddy and I both forgot that last night was the town Christmas parade. I looped back around and parked in the park and took the foot bridge across the river and then hiked through town to where the show was happening. It was just over .5 miles and the weather was nice and brisk. It would have taken over an hour to wait for the parade and traffic to clear out. For lunch I just took some more of the smoked pork loin and sliced it thick and then fried it with some breading. It makes a fantastic sandwich that way. Oh yeah, there is a new music(guitar) store in the next town over. My youngest and I went to check it out yesterday afternoon. Nice stuff, but nothing that compels money to leave my pocket.

  19. Let's see what I can come up with since all I did yesterday was stare at the screen. Crazy! #1 Georgia/Ga Tech? #2 Ohio State #3 Michigan? ALWAYS a battle and the most watched game with the added NCAA violations hype this year? HUGE game for both teams. As a Buckeye I'm just like most people. You support your team but as I've said all year we've got a young offensive like and a new QB. THAT you can't overlook, it's fact. No way out of it but even with the late game antics the Buckeyes couldn't pull it off. A good watch none the less imo. Hats off to blue with the win. Another thing to think about is the NCAA investigation of blue. One "tiny" thing to remember when it rolls out since they're now looking at the past 3 seasons. The ramifications to the program remain to be seen. Coach Day isn't going anywhere unless he decides to go somewhere imo. His record is stellar and even though OSU fired John Cooper years ago for not winning the big ones the University would be stupid to even think it. Coach Day never got to play blue when they had Brady Hoke (the Harbaugh boys fishin buddy) and the weaker coaches they had years ago. Yes, Lloyd Carr was one along w/Rodriguez. The other fact that stands out is that WW Hayes LOST to blue 11 times in his career @ OSU. IF the University does anything at all they should give Coach Day a raise just to keep him at OSU imo. Just take a look at the head coaching contracts today. Insanity at it's finest. Now back to the highlights of THE GAME! Now let's look at the apple cart with the #4 Washington/Washington State biggie. Carry on!

  24. If I remember correctly the academy is the speaker manufactured to match the quartet, forte II and chorus II. I still own 3 academys, 4 forte IIs and the quartets. They are all timbre matched. Go back about 15 years and read the post from the old members on the forum and those substitutes for the academy were discussed endlessly.

  25. Hi gang! First of all, big thank you to @Travis In Austin for keeping this thread updated with the play by play. We didn't realize how much work would be to manage updates on Kickstarter, Instagram, Facebook, via private message and email, so it is extra appreciated that Travis took the time to relay these here as... let's just say, sh*t got hectic. Secondly, some of you may have received the books yesterday and some will arrive this week. Needless to say, we are very excited to have learned some of you already received it (seen on our Instagram story 'highlights'). Rest assured if we got your address, you will get yours. If for some reason you'd like a tracking number, we'd be happy to provide it. Just send us an email at hi [at] loveinjection.nyc and we'll get back to you. I know it's a suspect email lol but hey, it's 2023 and that's our brand and it's too late to turn back now LOL. I encourage everyone who received it to post their photos on here I'd start at the beginning and read the essays and layout notices, which were all thoughtfully crafted. Happy holiday season! 26. The cabs themselves are 35" tall on a 1/2" base, 15" wide, and 13-5/8" deep without the grill. I believe the spacing on the tweeter/squawker/woofer is the same distance from the top of the cab as on the HII. The center of the ports should be 9-1/2" from the bottom of the cab and 3-1/2" from the sides. I've seen the ports listed as 3" diameter with 5" length which should tune the enclosure close to 40Hz with the K-24-K driver. IIRC the stock cabs are only 5/8" thick particle board so if you wanted to keep the same internal volume then you would need to expand each dimension appropriately if using 3/4" ply. The cabs are a single internal volume with no separate chamber for the tweeter/mids.

  32. Well folks thought I'd drop back by to say I survived the Knee replacement surgery better than I could have hoped for 4 days in and I slid the walker behind the door and I'm using a cane, after all my vanity can only stand so much of that crap LOL! It'll be a couple month ordeal before I'm jogging, but I should be taking on a limited amount of work again before spring! In the meant time I might be posting a couple more pieces for sale to get me over the hump. On e already has a first dibs call out on it (Stereo VRD). But the other will be a pretty nice 299B that I have to put an upgraded power transformer in. Which I need to get to ordering. Any way again thanks for all the well wishes it good to see this place hasn't lost its friendly nature! I'll be forced to take lots of breaks when I get back to work so I'll probably start hanging out here again. Did I hear right and Mark Deneen is back in the house? Boy it would be nice to catch up with him, What a great guy! If any of you remember Mobile Homeless (Kelly Holstien) I still converse with him now and then. Funny how true friends find a way to bury and hatchet! Anyway, I'm rattling on! Cheers Craig

  40. Hi @AndreG. good later Tull there! Think I've said before here that I can not go too long without some Jethro Tull myself. The drive back up to VA the other day was rain and very heavy rain the whole way. Had this and then the Allman Brothers "Beginnings" playing the entire way up. Played each twice before changing because I wasn't changing CDs until I was stopped for a wreck or some other slowdown.

  43. Wow, what a difference! I moved the speakers to the 4 ohm taps, and the midrange is now solid but not overwhelming, the bass is heftier, and the soundstage just doubled in width. I can't believe such a simple change could make such a huge difference. Thanks for the catch, Peter!

  44. I rarely read the test measurements in Stereophile, but this is a great catch! According to the tests, I should be using the 4 ohm tap instead of the 8 ohm tap. I will give that a whirl and see what happens. I wonder if the Dialogue series is better in this regard. Stereophile has unfortunately not tested the Dialogue 1 or 2.

  45. This is going to be an all-analog system (with the exception of a Sonos/DAC), so using room correction is not really an option. I'd rather marry the amp and speakers well and get around that. But that may not be possible. As for power, the Primaluna has serious authority and weight. Quite surprising given the power ratings, but I think we all know that 35w of power from a serious class-A amp will always trump 120w of power from an AVR. Or at least it has in my experience. I am thinking tube amp upgrade for the khorns... LOL, I'm not sure if I can lift those RF-7's upstairs. They are beasts I'm not entirely sure it's the room, though, as I used to use a pair of RB81's and Infinitys, and neither reacted this way. But I bought both of those systems used, so they had already been broken in. I let the system run for 12 hours straight today, and it sounded better on good source material. I will say this about the RF-7s: garbage in = garbage out x 10. Compressed modern music sounds awful at high volumes. On second thought, I would like to try some room autocorrection. Emotiva should be coming out with their XMC-1 next month, and I have an upgrade card. Perhaps I'll put that one upstairs and bring the UMC-1 down and try that out. I wish Emotiva would make a standalone room correction solution. Or better yet, a combined room correction/DAC!

  46. I use the Emotiva XPA-5 with khorns and it is quite something to hear. Mind you I have upgraditis as bad as the poster, but the XPA-2 would be a monster with the RF-7 II's. Truly over the top. John

  47. Just thought I'd sound off on this thread, as I have the UMC-1, an XPA-5 and a whole lotta Klipsch hooked up to it. I started off with a Denon 4306 hooked up to RB-81 fronts, an RC-64 center and RS-62 surrounds. Sounded very nice to my ears, although the bass was lacking. I added a JL Audio Fathom 113 sub and that fixed that problem. Had to turn the sub way up, though, and also had to cross it over really high (like 100Hz) to get decent response across the board. Then I got an XPA-5 and used that instead of the amplifier section of the Denon. The sound was really harsh until I realized that I had to change the toe-in of the RB-81s a LOT to get the sound right. I also apparently wasn't getting nearly as good of a midrange response from the Denon's amp section, and my ears were adjusting. But the dynamics became spectacular, especially for home theater use. I also was able to cross the sub down to 80 without losing any bass response, so the XPA was pumping out a lot more current. Next upgrade was to the UMC-1. I got mine a couple months ago, and the difference in sound from the Denon was stark. Not sure how to describe the difference, except that the sound was a lot more refined... a lot less harsh and a lot more expressive at higher frequencies. I could suddenly listen to music for hours on end without getting fatigued. Yes, the UMC-1 is still plagued with little annoyances, but I have faith that Emotiva will get them resolved. The latest upgrade was from the RB-81s to full Khorns. Megadifference in terms of bass response. I now cross the sub over at 40Hz, mainly because that's as low as the UMC-1 will let me. Bass is also much more natural, and not as chuffy. You feel the bass rather than hear it (for notes in the lowest octaves that is). The combination is a little brighter than the RB-81, so I am looking at getting a tube amp for the Khorns and using the RB-81s for the rear surrounds. Should be interesting to see if I can get all the speakers going in a 20'x20' room! Anyway, the UMC-1 is worth the upgrade, as was the XPA-5. Good company and great prices.

  48. Wife vetoed putting the TV in front of a window. False corners will get a similar veto unless I go all out and build ornate false corners, which I do not have the carpentry skills to pull off. The square room is definitely a problem, although the ceiling adds its own complications. The room has a flat top about 8' tall in the center, but the walls come down to just over 5' at the corners. Think dormers from hell. It actually helps reduce standing waves and other problems by making the sound travel all over the place. Not sure what it will do with the Khorns. So given that putting the TV in front of a window/door is not an option, my original question still stands: what will happen to the imaging if two Khorns are places diametrically opposed to each other, instead of in adjacent corners?
