  3. this is... ONCE AGAIN... an issue of Economics and not one of scientific relevance. If anyone wants to spend 500$ on a machined billet aluminum bracket when a 10$ stamped steel bracket can do the same work, why should we not be allowed to use Billet aluminum? Common mass mentality is that you've wasted 490$ when if fact you merely made a decision based on economics. if you want beautiful stranded and woven cables, by all means use them. in as far as 'expectation' bias... I have a different view point. if I am choosing to use something that costs me inordinately more to use, my 'Bias' is not one of justification, but one of criticality... In other words, I am actually going to be MORE CRITICAL of that item, not less critical.

  5. We had some 60s to 70s last week, but were cooling down again now. Still got the heat on 55 and it hasn't run in a week or so. Not complaining, but I love that little Vornado heater I bought [(another thing I have in storage that my evil relative won't let me get)<complaint logged with God] on low with it set to 3 of 10 keeps my bedroom closer to 60 at night. Works with the layers of old blankets I have and the newer wool one on top. Got one fuzzy, then a knitted, then the good wool one with a weighted bedspread on top. Sleep like a baby unless I have fresh onions after 6 pm. Kept my power bill almost the same even running the washer and dryer on the weekend. And we had that cold spell during this last bill!

  7. I agree with you there. I'm talking about the hundreds/thousands of dollar 'magic' cables.
    2 points
  8. the answer is so simple ....Differences in length between the cables used in a system are practically irrelevant. At 3 m ≠ 8 m this is certainly the case, but at 2 m ≠ 50 m this statement may no longer be true. Use a 2,5 mm2 ( AWG 14 ) per phase and you´ll be fine !

  9. My source isn't clean enough to bother with big dollar cables. It's a budget thang.

  12. That list of blankets on you at night is impressive. Kinda makes you sound like a crotchety old mule that's always cold at night. One more is never enough! 😂 😂 😂 Sunny and bright here in Duckburg. Not much heat yet but the sun is nice. Youngest daughter and some friends rented a "studio" yesterday to play with their camera's so Dad got lucky & got a few pics. I saw this one and knew I'd been had. Where she found it here I'll never know. She captioned it. "Dad, you really were a rockstar! Call you tomorrow Valentine cause I have questions." I can neither confirm or deny I was mentioned somewhere cause I don't remember! 20th Anniversary edition and it's the only one I had? I'm screwed. 😂 Yes @Invidiosulus, she does have a dog, which is great. You don't wanna know about the down side and how she'd finish you off. 😂💪😂

  13. Ok, we have a faction here that says that the cheapest cables are good enough. I don't belong to that camp. In my experience, cables can make a difference. However, the Canare 4S11 is not a "compromise". Some people have given up their €2000+ cables for it.

  15. @Joefi1973 I can confirm most from your imppressions about the KG3.5 ( KM 4 ) as I owned them as well , i kept the origin klipsch polymer diafragms and renovated the whole speakers inside as well as outside and after approx 30 years of age it was time to refurbish the x-overs caps & resistors . I´m not saying that this must be done with yours as well , but was neccessary to the pair that I owned. Once I published a thread in the KC , this may inspires you ?

  16. The kg3.5’s are so sensitive that when my amp blew, I ran it strictly off my iPad….although not very loud, definitely sounded good until the new amp came in.(about 3 weeks)……..I was very surprised to hear how well it sounded….im surprised I didn’t blow my iPad output…lol

  18. Congratulations on your new acquisition. I can't wait to hear what you have to say. Especially as you have the HJ in the same place in the same room and have obviously gotten to know the UJ very well over the years. I share the UJ with you and also your taste in whisky. A Port Charlotte, for example, among all the other potions on your windowsill also feels very comfortable in my home😀

  24. I just finished cleaning up a pair of of RF7 MK1s. I took them all apart. Removed the foam. Replaced the leads on the crossover. The boxes are still a bit rough but I am thinking about applying a new coat of stain on them. Something dark. Maybe even pain the black. What do you think these would be worth when done? Here are a few pics of what they look like now.

  26. I have a pair of "The Fives" and a R-121 SW. Simplifying my system. I love the sound and ease of use. I mostly use a Lenovo Yoga 6 laptop USB to the speakers. The laptop has 24 bit 192Khz sampling. But internal DAC's in a laptop aren't the best. Would I do better, will the sound be better, if I added a DAC like the Audioquest firefly red for example. Thoughts please. Thank you

  29. I’ve had several different Klipsch speakers in my life….when I came across a marketplace add for 2 mint condition kg3.5 and a pioneer elite reference vsx97flagship receiver for 125.00, I snapped them up….i sold the receiver alone for 300. And now how my favorite sounding Klipsch speaker I’ve ever owned….these things are great for bass, mid and high…..the crossover frequency is spot on….i did ponie up and upgrade with crites capacitors and titanium tweeters…..now they rock….and rock they do……I found pairing them with my kg2.5’s in the rear are the sound I drool over…..just for kicks I added my Klipsch R12D sub…..needless to say, it’s amazingly good…….i run them all off a hybrid tube amp…..so I have tube pre and class A/B power section with a sub output…..my Buddy that spent 3 time what I did is now upset…..he heard my system and is now in the process of selling his Zu dirty weekends….. and is looking for his own set of kg3.5’s……their very sensitive at 94db @1 watt…so very efficient…..and great for , classical, Rock, reggae, etc…..a multipurpose speaker for sure….if you ever come across a set, pick them up…..I’ve heard the kg 4.5’s and 5.5’s but both are way too bassy!…..that’s were the 3.5’s shine…..

  30. I have used an avr and integrated amp with pre-outs for HT and movies. As long as I am in the acceptable power range of the avr and or second amp, thing should pretty much sound the same. The power rating of the avr and power amp are close enough in your system, it should not be noticeable except at high volumes, maybe. How thing are handled depends on the various connections. If I plug everything like the BD, CD, etc. into the TV, things are processed differently compared to connecting the BD, CD, etc. to the receiver. I have use the pre-outs with my 200 watt/channel Acurus amp and my 45 watt tube amps.

  32. Had another "oldie" in the ride today, thought I'd share one of my faves off of it. Of course I always try to get at least a 1080 vid that opens up the whole lp if you'd like to fire one up and reminisce It helps a little with this recording and it's mid-70s coliseum-tone.

  33. Man that WOULD suck swamp water. Sounds like the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing once again. The old hurry up and wait always leaves you scratching your head. Grrrrrr. I got a call from my eye clinic yesterday. I was in guinea pig mode one day and got involved in some eye study program. They paid me 100$ to participate and all they did was take pics of my retina and do some lill air puff thingy, which was nothing. Soooo, they said it had been 5 years since I did it and wanted me back to do the same test again. NP they were going to give me 100$ again. 30 in fuel for the trip down and 70 for moving from chair to chair. I can handle that. 💪😂

  34. I had Khorns for 14+ years with various "improvements" like High-Zoot crossovers, also had Chorus/Heresy/Forte II/Heresy II/La Scala LSI/KG-4/etc. Once in a very great while I miss the though of my Khorns sweet spot, it passes quickly. Pure Audio Project is the real deal. You owe it to yourself to give them a listen. I was on the fence with their horn center baffle. I recently passed on a pair on US Audio Mart. Kind of regret it just to see how they might give the "horn thing" along with open baffle. Some day, maybe. From This: To This and don't think I'll ever go back to box speakers: These are with an older set of center baffles/drivers Audio Nirvana. They currently have a set of Voxativ AC-1.6 They work great with HT too! Here you can see the Vox drives (white cones not black)

  35. See, now this is what I'm talking about. People who agree with me. I'm not surprised because I'm pretty much right all the time. Of course, Mark may disagree, but this being Friday evening, he's probably escorting his true love to a fine restaurant accompanied by a ever so slightly chilled rose to go with the introductory course of cracked crabs. Me. I just sucked down a bowl of Campbell's mushroom soup accompanied by a soupcon of MadDog 20/20. I could be wrong, though, He could be hunkered down over his keyboard furiously at work on a foam-flecked diatribe thinly disguised as reasoned discourse. Maybe the heavy metal music he's playing through his "Blistered Fingers Superior Cable " his grinding molars couterpointing the wailing guitars and the frantic typing. Me I'm listening to Leonard Cohen.

  37. imperfectcircle25 - Sorry it's taken me this long to see your message, I've not been in here since I finally got my 2nd pair of RF-7's in. Took the dealer quite a long time getting them in than we thought but his regular rep was out on vacation. I think you might have something about the British sound, I had a long listen at the dealer's with Rotel's top of the line setup and I was impressed. I'm thinking about it! Only reason I gave them a listen is the research I did, the reviews and users reviews have been very positive. I hear maybe half % to 1% difference in the Rotel vs. the Mark Levinson in very faint detail but the Rotel has an overall balance that comes together very nicely that I'm leaning towards. Right before my Dad retired, he upgraded his Stereo 2-channel and passed the ML's to me, he got a great deal on them, his best pal he grew up with owned his own hi-fi store, now sold and retired too. How are the RF-7's coming along for you? Any better?

  38. Wow, what a shame and waste. I really don't see how you couldn't be happy with them. Are you sure you are running the right gear with them? I'm very happy with my RF-7's, infact I'm waiting for my second pair to come in, I'm very pleased with the stunning results I get with the RF-7. Sorry to hear you aren't happy with yours, just don't see how you have come to this conclusion unless your equipment is stopping you from what the RF-7's can really do.

  39. tofu, I've gone through the same thing you have. I've tried a few past Klipsch speakers models and compared them to the RF-7 and I think it's difficult to go from the RF-7 (same for RF-3) to Klipsch Heritage line. It actually will show you just how good the reference line is. You also have to give yourself some time to get used to the Heritage sound as you take-in the differences from the Reference. Expectations of blowing away should not be setup by those claiming such, and should be avoided because it sets up disappointments, the differences are not that BIG! There is no best or blowing away to be had. They are different sounds and there are trade offs for each. You have to pick which one is overall more to your liking that YOU prefer, not someone else likes. Klipsch doesn't make a DOG in any line, all Klipsch speakers are good. I very much like the sound of Klipsch and all models have that very unique distinctive Klipsch signature sound. The Reference line gives you the best of both worlds of cone and horn together with a more full bodied sound, as the Heritage line sound is more airy sounding, I like to use the word airy than hollow or empty as some try to describe it because it's not lacking and not a bad thing, the Heritage is giving an airy sound as how closer it would sound if you were listening to it live, meaning as if you were in the room while they are performing. The Reference line sounds live but more full bodied, not as airy, more like live in a studio accurate type sound. I really like the sound of both lines. My overall pick for myself is the RF-7 because for me it meets closes to doing everything I like in an overall way. If I could take what I like best about both lines and put into one, that would be great! Or you can have both like some do, but I've got to avoid that syndrome! I don't have the room to do that, nor will she like that at home, women don't like to share their space with too many speakers like some of us males. With either line, I find myself sitting and wanting to just keep listening more and more. I really like the Klipsch sound and I'm probably hooked now to only own Klipsch speakers for the rest of my life! Enjoy!

  40. toddvj, well that isn't very nice! Didn't your Momma teach you that if you don't have anything nice to say to keep your mouth shut! I have the CD and it's a very nice easy-listening jazzy style. I was very shocked because I don't care for her past rap stuff but on this CD she really shows her talents that she does have. She's somewhat like Natalie Cole but with stronger vocals. Many people do like her because she has a very easy-going, happy, friendly, and fun personality.

  41. I originally wanted Klipschorn's but due to problems getting it new from dealers not knowing they could get them, or unwilling to do any discount at all, I got an invite from a nice guy from my area to come over and listen to his Klipshorn's and RF-7. I had no interest in the RF-7 at all but after the long sessions of listening, I came away very impressed with the RF-7 and it was my overall liking very much. -- I bought a pair of RF-7, and shortly after a used mint pair of KLF-20. I could quickly hear the overall improvents Klipsch has made with the RF-7 compared to KLF-20. The KLF-20 sounds great but compared to the RF-7 it becomes thinner sounding and isn't overall great with different types of music as the RF-7 does all music overall very well and I'm very pleased with the RF-7. The RF-7 have a fuller richer sound than the KLF-20 and it's just down right stunning sound with how accurate and true to the original source. I had my sisters birthday party at my house and while people were here, I asked them to listen to a few songs between the two speakers from the KLF-20 and RF-7 and all 8 people that listened, all like the RF-7 better. Said it was a more richer fuller sound. Nice, smooth, creamy, and very detailed. This is the same why I felt too. -- Three days ago, a local guy talked me into trading him my Mint KLF-20's for his Forte II Mint pair of speakers. They look great, he's the original owner and has taken very good care of them. I noticed right away that the mid range on the Forte II is larger sounding and doesn't sound thin like the KLF-20 did but looking at the Forte's horn it has a little bit longer throat and little larger horn. The bass on the Forte II is impressive for a passive radiator type bass. The KLF-20 has a very good clean tight bass and is very impressive too. -- Comparing the Forte II with the RF-7, the Forte II has an empty type of sound when comparing to the RF-7. The Forte sounds nice but it doesn't get as nice sounding as the RF-7 nor as large soundstage. The RF-7 has the ability to have a huge soundstage! It's very accurate and more true to the sound than any of the past Klipsch products I have tried. The singer sounds really real, as if right in front of you singing. The Klipschorn is just too large of a sound to take real because a person in real life doesn't sound that large when singing, so I just couldn't feel it as real as the RF-7's sound. Some guy stated here before that the RF-7 sound dead compared to the Klipschorn, this is so inaccurate. The RF-7 get almost as loud and big as the Klipschorn, just more of a accurate sound and more in line of life size than beyound that of what the Klipschorn's give. I'm very fortunate to have gotten the chance to hear the RF-7 and Klipschorn side-by-side before I bought my choice of Klipsch speakers and I thank Trevor very much for giving me that chance! Thanks Trevor!!! -- Comparing the KLF-20 and Forte II to the RF-7 have been a disappointment for me, I've decided I'm not going to try anymore past Klipsch speaker to the RF-7 anymore. I'm 100% satisfied with the RF-7 and really feel I have hit music nirvana! I have the RF-7 on an expensive high-end amp and the RF-7's have the ability to just keep sounding better and larger with the more high-quality equipment you give it. It recreates a huge soundstage, but only if your equipment can recreate the huge soundstage too. The RF-7 is truely a great speaker and nothing has sounded as good to me as the RF-7 with my setup. I'm very pleased, I'll be keeping the RF-7 for a very long time. I'm going to buy another pair of RF-7 for a second setup for the bedroom that my girl friend wants me to do. I'm going to sell the Forte II. -- For me, the RF-7 is the only way to go. The RF-7 is very detailed, accurate, smooth, clean, stunning sound that still has me in awe, and the bass is deep tight and clean, no sub is needed with the RF-7! There is a great resolution to the RF-7 that won't be found in any past Klipsch product, nor Klipschorn! Klipsch really deserves a great big hand for their work on the RF-7! Strange because that wasn't how I felt at first. I was listening to too many here but learned a very good lesson, you must go out and listen and compare! You must listen only to yourself and what you like. Try and listen to each and decide for yourself and make sure you run with the right quality equipment for any Klipsch speaker!! Always remember, we all run different equipment and get many different results, so I apply that to why we hear so many different opinions on any speaker. Happy Klipsch-ing!

  42. No, the KLF isn't better than the RF. They both are very nice speakers. I have the KLF-20 and the RF-7. I have them on an expensive high-end amp and when comparing this way, the RF-7 really shows how nice of a speaker it is and improvements Klipsch has put into the reference line. My RF-7 overall is very pleasing and far surpassed my expectations. I think I'm going to sell the KLF-20's now and buy another pair of RF-7 for a second setup for the bedroom since my girl friend ask me to put a system in the bedroom just like in the living room. The KLF-20 is very nice but comparing it to RF-7, the KLF-20 sounds thin sounding and not as realistic or accurate to the sound. The RF-7 is a fuller richer sound, very accurate and more convincingly real sounding than the KLF-20. The RF-7 has a very studio quality accurate sound to it, it's very pleasing. The singer sounds more real, as if singing right in front of me.

  43. DrWho, Klipsch is still using Monster cable for the Reference Line, states it on their website. I just got a brand new pair of RF-7 and Klipsch took Monster Cable Logo off their shipping box for the RF-7 but looking inside the RF-7, the cable says "Klipsch Reference by Monster". It's Monster Reference cable.
