  1. Seller says they are fully functional, just rough. This is a heck of a deal for anyone willing to drive from Denver or live in UT. http://www.ksl.com/classifieds/listing/44144897
  2. Spark Notes: The Heresy only goes down to 50 hz which means you are missing HALF the music! Your dubstep and Hip Hop are going to suck on these and the Klipsch cult will brainwash you into thinking these are the best speakers ever made!!!
  3. I second this. I would even go as far as using the 'bounce' method for atmos and put these on top of your La Scalas and have them bounce off the ceiling for atmos effects. More importantly, you have a 7.1 system with ALL La Scalas!?!
  4. I saw this come up and figured someone here might take an interest to it. http://www.ksl.com/classifieds/listing/43592472
  5. I agree, absorbing the primary reflection points is a significant improvement in clarity and sound stage. I found the best way to do it is to have a friend sit on a couch or get a balloon and place it in the middle seat where your head would be when listening. Then have another buddy take a laser pointer and put it on top of the speaker on the front edge. Get a small mirror and place it on the wall at the same height as the person sitting (or balloon). Start right next to the speaker and have your buddy shine the laser on the mirror. Slowly move along the wall until the reflected laser hits the person in the chair or the balloon. That will be the reflection point that needs to be absorbed. Do this for each speaker and each wall so you will have a total of 4 points, 2 on each side between your speakers and the listening position.
  6. A little tip for basically free healthcare (although a little shady) is to sign up for an FSA account during your open enrollment if you know you are leaving soon and have a surgery etc coming up. Then use your FSA card for the surgery and leave your job soon after. Since the money is pre-funded you wont be responsible for the remaining payments. Good luck on your new adventure! I think the best thing to fill your time is to focus on hobbies and interests you can monetize down the road such as photography. If you do need to find a job, you can always come to Utah. Utah county is the new "Silicone Valley" and there are literally 5 billboards in a row advertising for tech jobs.
  7. I think that is one of the big drawbacks to DIY speakers. With Klipsch speakers you know you have decades of engineering and brand behind you when you sell a set. With DIY the ad often comes off as, "Hey I have a Parts Express catalog and stayed at a Holiday Inn last night... They sound great!".
  8. That is correct, the timbre match is decent enough for surround use and the Tractrix horn on the KSB series keeps up really well with the high energy KG 5.5, 3.5 etc speakers. Before I bought my La Scalas I had some black KSB 1.1s as surrounds for the KG 5.5s and was really impressed by the setup. I now have a set of KSB 1.1 speakers in white that I really like in my bedroom. The KSB 3.1s are pretty massive for a bookshelf and most likely put out floor standing levels of output.
  9. This looks like a pretty good deal. I have always liked the KSB series of speakers. They are not the prettiest line Klipsch has made but they sound great. They make good surround speakers for the later KG line too.
  10. My guess is he got scammed and is trying to offload them. Most of salesmen sucker people for $300 to $500 for these. It blows my mind how people will spend that much on a product some sketchy guy is hawking from a van in a parking lot.

    Audio WTF's!

From the website: SWO-XXX will redefine what a mere outlet can do for "air" and "smoothness" in a system. There is oodles of air cushioning each sonic note and performer, seemingly lifting them upwards in the soundstage, while traces of brittleness, hardness, and grit are removed, resulting in a more liquid, smooth textures.
  12. You have to be sneaky about this. Tell her "The Notebook" will have a much greater emotional impact if you move the couch to set it up right. I agree, if not the sound will always be unbalanced due to the left wall and open space on the right. I would go with the way MetroLakeOutfitters outlined it and put the R-14 s speakers on the 'top' and 'bottom' walls by the balcony door and the Door #1. You can use your AVR to correct the distances and I personally like my surround speakers further away. For this setup, I would not worry about going 7.1 unless you wanted to run rear surrounds on the 'right' wall but you are already on thin ice moving the couch and good luck convincing your girl to let you mount more speakers above the table across the room.
  13. Professional photography in general has taken a beating lately with a sudden influx of quasi professionals who have decent equipment and can undercut the true pros on price. Especially when many clients dont know the difference in quality a true pro can offer over someone who will rattle off "Journalistic" shots and throw a few "Summer Haze" filters over everything.
  14. I have the full Parts Express catalog in my bathroom and think up new projects for amps, boomboxes etc every time I do my business.
  15. The question I have for @Chief bonehead is how does he feel the new Forte III's stack up against his original design of the V1 Epic CF-4 speakers and what thought process went into a totally new design like the Epics versus honoring the legacy and original design intent of the Forte?
  16. There is absolutely no point in doing this unless you also have harmonic resonator dots on your walls as the resonant frequency will interfere with any sonic benefit of the fuses.
  17. Congrats on the purchase! I really like my KG 5.5s, they have a really open sound with tons of bass. For a center option, I heard the KV-2 or Kv-3 are a similar but not a perfect match. They come up pretty often and a good price would be $40 to $50 for the KV-2 and $60 to $75 for the KV-3. For surrounds, I really like the KSB 1.1 speakers. They are not very pretty unless you get them in white but the Tractix horn tweeters and high output can keep up well with the KG 5.5s. They are typically in the $40 to $60 range as well and the larger KSB 2.1's are good as well. I have not heard the Forte II but from what I have read they are a more balanced and mid range focused speaker than the KG 5.5. It depends on your music taste. If you like Hip Hop or Electronic Music, I think KG 5.5 is the best Klipsch speaker hands down but if you are more into nuanced traditional music like Jazz I would think the Forte is a better choice in a 2 channel setup.
  18. Awesome shots! I think part of what makes Klipsch such a great brand is the living heritage that goes well beyond the Heritage speakers. I have to say that when I saw these photos the first thing that came to my head was:
  19. Side note but I have read a number of build threads here and on almost every one there is the stern warning to test fit the driver into the installed T-nuts BEFORE you glue them in.
  20. Speakers behind an AT screen is a cleaner look but personally I prefer to see my gear. Having the RF-7iis out and toed in will help greatly when you want to put on some music as well. With the speakers "seeing" each other and the sound treatment you have, you will get a holographic soundstage that is so good it gets creepy sometimes. (WTF is Gene Simmons doing in my house...) Also, amazing job with the room and its good to see someone give a lot of thought with sound treatments. I have seen a lot of high end theaters with bare walls which diminishes the experience greatly. Have you decided on subwoofers yet?
  21. I used to detail cars and we hated doing Land Rovers. They were the only car you had to shut off the ignition to spray the engine bay because all the electrical issues. If you sprayed the door frames just the wrong way you would short it as well and the shop held liable.
  22. If I was building a flat pack I would use Titebond II because its easier to spread and doest expand out of joints as much. Its easier to clean up as well. If I was doing my own cutting and building a cab however, I would use Gorilla Glue as it expands into any imperfections to hold better.
  23. Awesome! Its a great little amp. It does sound a little harsh and has a bit of a 'zing' at first but will break in after a few days. The only other quirk is that the tone controls are sub par but i have always just had them turned off. Let me know how you like it. There are a few of us here that are big supporters of Class D amps with Klipsch speakers so we like to see what others think as well.
  24. You can always get a little Class D amp for your desktop. I personally love the Lepai 2020A+ and the version with the Tripath chip is getting rare as they dont make the chips anymore. I have one for my LaScalas and one in my office running my KG 5.5's. The sound is crystal clear and the music just flows, this little amp is a giant killer for sure. https://www.parts-express.com/lepai-lp-2020a-tripath-class-t-hi-fi-audio-mini-amplifier-with-power-supply--310-300
