Fish
Well......I just thought I'd put this out as food for thought.I find a set of rf62's on Louisville Craigslist, send email, the guy calls me and said yep, still got em' come see em'.I explain I'm in the next state, tell him when I'll be there, all is good.I get to his house,we look at his 62's along with several other items he has.I say well the 62's are all I'm really after,I'll take em' for your asking price. Then the guys wife comes in and say's,I think I'd like to keep the speakers. After a moment I say,I drove over 100 miles to get these, are you serious, she said yes,the dude said nothing.I said ok,I'll show myself out(before I said much more than you should in someone else's house).Needless to say I was fuming, thinking what kind of turd would let his wife break his word, giving no regard to my time/expense. I really just posted to remind everyone,it's never a deal to you got the item in your posession.Be skeptical, make sure as you can everyone is on the same page before you drive a looong way. Bill H.
Another way to look at this sad situation is.............what if you drove there and they weren't in good condition..or not working ?
Fish
Another way to look at this sad situation is.............what if you drove there and they weren't in good condition..or not working ? That's true,in this case and all cases I ask for an honest 1-10 scale rating, then ask that all drivers are operational now. That will get you at least a semi good idea,or has in the past.If I have any doubt about condition,I just don't go far.......... BigStewMan
that sure sucks.
jacksonbart
That is complete BS. Might I recommend that you stop by a local newsstand and pull out all the internal subcription mailers you can get your hands on and fill them out with the person's address and check the "bill me later" option. BigStewMan
when i was in the military, one guy was getting transferred, and as a joke, someone took out a subscription to some gay porn rag and used his new unit's address so the first month's magazine arrived ahead of him. i can only imagine the stories about "the new guy" that is going to report in soon. I thought that was the worst joke that i've ever heard of and probably would have led me to come back for a visit and throw a few punches. hard to live that kind of joke down in the military. Thaddeus Smith
i drove about 300 miles to pick up speakers ..I would have been irate if this happened (looooong day of driving for speakers) ..though there isn't much one can do in such a situation. sounds like you handled it well. in my case, however ..the wife seemed exceptionally pleased to be getting a pair of speakers out of the house
russ69
Then the guys wife comes in and say's,I think I'd like to keep the speakers. I think she was a big Klipsch fan. She probably told her husband; "I don't care how broke you are the Klipsch ain't going anywhere". Thanx, Russ

Coytee
Man, that does suck. As I was reading it I was expecting the wife was trying to bait you for more money (You mean I drove this far and now you don't want to sell them at your asking price? "yes, but if you give me another hundred dollars I'll let them go") I was impressed with your handling of it. Probably deserved a kick in the woofer (the guy not the speaker....well...maybe his wife too lol) Maybe this might spark something... If there are any forum members in the area, perhaps it is worth having one of them do a drive by pickup. I was contacted by John who lives in Arkansas. He found a pair of Heresy's and Chorus speakers here in Knoxville. He asked if I'd consider picking them up and I was happy to do so. Made two trips to the guys house (40 miles from my home) to get them and kept them in my basement for 6 months until I was able to work out a plan with John for him to receive them. Someone offered more money behind your back and possibly the husband didn't know, or maybe he did, but didn't tell you not to come down for them. That really sucks to hear... Groomlakearea51
Huhm.... Perhaps it's a "Paul Harvey" version (which no-one will ever really know). The wife wanted some or most of the "stupid stereo stuff" gone. Husband was miffed because he had spent years of OCD'ing to collect it, and fighting with his wife over "home decor". So he finally decides to do just what she wanted.... and posted on CL to sell the Klipsch, which of course happened to be the one pair of speakers she wanted to keep. Now the battle lines were drawn, and Fish shows up without warning (because the husband wanted to make sure it was a surprise and put her on the spot), and he's now got her attention. Unfortunately for Fish, he's been drawn into a domestic pissin' contest. After Fish left, I'll bet that the husband and wife really got into it. Sad... Reason I suspect this is a good possibility is because of the massive vintage stuff piled in the basement, rather than (and here's the smoking gun...) installed, running tunes throughout the house. I doubt the basement stash was "stolen". Reason? He would have never shown it to Fish.
fini
I think you may have blown an opportunity. In swinger parlance, "I think I'd like to keep the speakers" is an open invitation to a 3-way. Don't ask how I know this.

thebes
I predict that within the month she will have changed her mind and force her husband to contact you to see if you are still interested. Then you make HIM drive them out to YOU.
