What a let down

Recommended Posts

Awhile back I was looking for a 3 or 5 channel amp. I wanted a 200 watts amp and purchased an Adcom GFA 5503 off Ebay. Well the thing arrived DOA. I am not sure if it is seller fraud or major damage from shipping. I heard things rolling around in it and, no it was not playing Rock N Roll, lol. The seller said it was in A1 condition and had been kept in a rack. Back it goes! Look at the packing job, just a few beads inside the box. Bent heat sinks and this amp looks old and not well kept to say the least.

Yeah major bummer derrick! There was a guy up in Canada (Vladimir) that use to ship turntables with the platters unsecured and wadded newspaper for packing. Yikes!

That really sucks! Luckily as a buyer you are very well protected with Ebay. Much more so than the seller. I'd send it back packaged exactly as it was received.

Wow! That is the worst pack job I've ever seen. You couldn't pack that box with enough peanuts to protect it. They all settle to the bottom during shipping. Peanuts are a filler, not protection. Best wishes getting it resolved.

Yep, looks like fresh shipping damage. I once bought an amp form forum member Rusty Melton. It took me about 20 minutes with a box cutter to actually get to the amp. I think the amp could have survived a drop off my roof. It was padded, boxed, padded and boxed again. He did a great job.

Derrick,

I am very sorry to hear about this tragedy. Crazy bad packing job.

One of my Acurus amps arrived just like that but I was lucky, no damage or scratches of any kind. The shipping angels must have escorted it to my home.

I hope you don't have any hastle getting a refund.

Bill

This is how you pack an amp.

that's a seller/shipper problem... don't worry.

shipper is ALWAYS responsible for damage.

still sucks though.

I think it's funny that he thought the peanuts would actually do something.

To be honest, the heat sink damage doesn't look like it was caused by the shipping. I mean, there's metal missing off the damn fins. That would have come right through the box.

If you'd had a chance to hear that thing, you might be glad it will end up being a shipping claim and NOT in your system

Dean,

Look at the box, I think it did come through.

What a bummer. You think when you buy yourself a Christmas gift you wouldn't have to return it.

The seller sent my RC 64 with peanuts in a large box. I don't know how it arrived safe. I guess I will change my signature, lol.

When you buy anything, and I mean anything, try to arrange a phone conversation. Discuss packing. If it doesn't arrive in the way agreed upon in the conversation, don't even bother pulling it out and plugging it in -- just send it back.

I hate eBay, I refuse to even bother with it.

I didn't want to add insult to injury. since I had never heard one of those exact amps prior.

I have not heard the Adcom amps but, I have not read bad things about them. I guess I will get a chance to go thru the purchasing process agin. I have previouly said I am not even sure if I need it. I just like amps. I guess I will be joining the Right This Minute thread early tonight. Well I will feel better tomorrow: my family is taking me out for a 12 course dinner in Chicago. Maybe I should spend that on the amp, lol.

For what it's worth here is a suggestion. Check into a Kenwood Basic M2A amp 220wpc power house that sounds fantastic. I have one and have been using it for the last 20+ years and it has not skipped a beat.

That sucks - really careless of the shipper to do that! I hope the process of getting your refund goes smoothly.
