Cables, Coffee, Cycles, and Cocktails

Tarheel

Recommended Posts

My morning routine has me enjoying a cup or two of non GMO, environmentally friendly, green, expensive, co-op purchased, coffee while reading the latest in the cable debate now on page 19 in one thread and a "hot topic" in two others.

Pursuing Cal's thread that wandered a bit and ended up in a discussion of coffee I would like to pick the brain of the serious coffee drinkers here and get some suggestions, tips, and advice.

Here are the particulars. I usually do not grind my own beans. I drink two cups in the morning....that's it. Expensive to me is more than $10 a pound. I am not particularly loyal to any brand or purveyor. I have a Keurig but routinely use a Mr. Coffee. I guess among serious coffee drinkers, to use an audio comparison, I am in the boom box stage.

So what would be a step up?

the Van Houtte brand is the best tasting coffee you can buy and enjoy if you are sitting down to listen to music -

Keurig purchased the company -which is based in Montreal -  you can buy their products on ebay and online - http://www.vanhoutte.com/en-ca/consumer/contact-us%C2'> -

they are simply a phenominal coffee -

Good morning everyone... This is my first real post here and many know me for my photos..... (0;

So, with that, I am starting my morning's selection from the bag on the left....

The 2014 'Christmas Blend' is available only during the holidays and I have started a collection of the bags as they all dated.

Very nice Gary.....great to see you here!

Chowder contest was okay but no real winner for my taste.  Some unusual combinations.

LF off to church.  Coffee finished as is a bowl of cheese grits.  I seemed to have moved up to three cups a day recently.  Jake walked in the rain.  Warm rain....but rain.

Cheers :emotion-44: Gents

Tarheel sure loves his grits. About the only place around here that serves them up. Is Cracker Barrel. This morning it was just the wife and I as the kids are off at grandma's. So we treated ourselves to Duncan Doughnuts. I had a sausage egg and cheese crescent. It was good, I am going to try their new dark roast coffee, as I didn't really care for their original.

Bought a Hario Skerton manual coffee grinder yesterday from a new local business, along with his freshly roasted Papua New Guinea.  Very much like the grinder, even though it does take a couple of minutes to grind it properly, but not thrilled with the PNG.  Somewhat high in acid, and not as dark as I like....oh well, I'll finish the bag then back to my Honduran.  He told me he would be on the lookout for the Monsoon Malabar.

Hear you there Sportster... Good to be here Tar... We have a number of those types of coffee houses here uptown. I stop there often on the way into work...

The Starbucks we have always have on hand, as there are a number of their shops around this area as well, and the Christmas blend is always under the tree this time of year (0:

Here then is my favorite tool for grinding up the beloved beans, and since the kitchen is outfitted with KitchenAid gear, why not ? (0:

It all goes on display here in the kitchen through the holidays, but will come down after I send this photo to you all...... Do note, we were highly disappointed that the bags were downsized to half lb. this year as you can see the 2014 on the far right.....

All I got for now...

Well it went well and everyone had fun, it ended up being about 50 people which was fine. People were in the bar area, the yard,  in front the house and inside the house, music was playing inside and in the bar. Around midnight the power went out by the bar, the music stopped and the lights went out but is was still bright with all the tiki torches and fire and it didn't slow down anything. I thought a breaker tripped with all the crock pots and everything fired up so I went inside to flip the breaker and it was DARK ! I lit some candles inside so people could find the bathroom.

I went back out and told everyone the power was out in the whole neighborhood and they cheered :o they could have cared less. A little later fire trucks passed on the street and everyone slowed down seeing all the people and fires then kept going. One truck stopped later in front the house for a while so I walked out to ask what happened and he said it was a house fire but everyone was OK.

Around 1 am the power came back on and there was another cheer when the lights and music came back on. Around 2 about it thinned down to about 25 people with a few leaving off and on, the last 8-10 left around 3 or so I think. Ever notice as a party goes on they want the music louder and louder, it started out kind of like background music and worked it's way up as people requested, it was fun even considering I knew no one except my wife and daughter.

Everyone said we really need to make it a regular thing which we will. There were so many cars they were everywhere, there were even a bunch on the front grass and down the street.

I know the rules pic's or it's made up.......
