Scrappydue
My wife bought me one a couple years back. Used it a lot at first. Now it sits in a dresser drawer.
Rowan611
Use a Harmony 700 upstairs, don't use anything in the theater.
swapface
Well, a properly configured Harmony basically saved my marriage....well not really, but that is a joke around our house as the wife hated not knowing the right order to press this button and that button and what remote went with each activity. But now with the click of one button it controls everything like it should. So I a am a BIG fan of Harmony remotes and have several in my home. Matthews
This is the Rotel RR-1060, universal learning remote. If you have all your original remotes, I highly recommend this unit, it will replace them all. It is much smaller and attractive than those other "mega remotes". Very easy to use and program. This is my second one, had to sell the 1st one along with a piece of Rotel equipment. I just won this one off an eBay auction for $52.01. They do come up occasionally. If you can find one, get it! I love mine... Edited October 6, 2015 by Matthews

wvu80
...as the wife hated not knowing the right order to press this button and that button and what remote went with each activity. I would be a good candidate for one of those. When I bought my Onkyo 717 a couple of years ago for use with the TV my wife freaked out over how complicated it was, having to press one button for the TV and (gasp) another button for the AVR, same remote. To this day, if we watch a movie she just hands the remote over to me and I have to load the disc and press all the buttons. It's actually far more traumatic and complicated than that to my wife, but I'll stop here. Let's just say it took her years to adjust to the new two-button arrangement, and she's still not happy about it yet. Moderators Youthman Posted October 6, 2015 Moderators Share Posted October 6, 2015 I always thought they were a waste of money...till I bought one. Cant see myself not owning one now.
CECAA850
I always thought they were a waste of money...till I bought one. Cant see myself not owning one now. Agreed. Replace 6 or 7 remotes with one really cleans up the room. I also like to push one button to do something instead of 4 or 5.
derrickdj1
The Harmony remotes are very nice. I control the TV, BDPand AVR with the remote. The buttons are less picky than the avr remote. I may need a new one since I have to press some of the buttons very hard.
vondy
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L5H1IQM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage This is the only remote I have ever liked. Works wonders and is super simple. My wife loves how easy it is to use. There's an app for more advanced settings. The remote itself is RF and talks to an IR blaster. It also has bluetooth so it will work with a PS3 or Amazon Fire Stick. We love it! Only complaint is no backlight. Unless you are using the app of course. psg
Nice thing about the Harmony remotes is pluging them into a computer via USB to program them from a list of equipment models.
agile1966
I would also recommend a Harmony. I am on my 5th one. If you are the only one in the house, not sure I would get one, with others in the house, it is necessary to avoid someone completely screwing up your system. I have also eliminated the countless calls/texts asking "how do I...?"

I'm not looking for one, but with that high WAF it looks like I should be! I have a question for you about that remote. I copy/pasted this from your link: Swipe and tap control: Use your smartphone for one-touch control of your entertainment system, up to 50 favorite channel icons, volume, media playback and more (Works with iPhone iOS 6.0 or later and Android 4.0 or later) I didn't know that it was possible to use the Iphone to control the various components. I figured if you had older stuff (therefore older non-connected WiFi gadgets) that you were just out of luck controlling them with a smartphone. I can see my wife NOT using even the newer high-tech remote, but I DO see her using her Iphone, Have you used it that way, and how well does it work for you? Or more accurately, how well does it work for your wife? Edited October 6, 2015 by wvu80
vondy
I rarely use the app actually, my wife never. I don't think it's that intuitive of an app. Not too difficult but no where near as easy as picking up the super simple remote and using it. That's why my wife loves it. Just push one button and it turns on everything that needs to be on. Then from there you have your simple navigation buttons and volume. Your wife might love it if she's more app savvy. Mine is always on her phone but other than Facebook she is pretty clueless when it comes to figuring out how to use things. The "base station" has wifi so it talks to your phone or remote, remote through RF I believe. From there it blast out infrared or bluetooth to your other devices. There is also a wired infrared module that you can stick inside a cabinet if your gear is hidden away. I have no trouble using just the base station and the IR hitting all my stuff through glass cabinet doors. It's also always nice to not have to point the remote anywhere.
YK Thom
Which Harmony model would you recommend? I currently have five devices.
USNRET
I have owned Harmony 880, 890, One and now a 900. Loved all except the One but now I find that I am unable to get Windows 10 to see the remote when connected and had to use my daughter's W-7 laptop. ratcobob
I've had several different Harmony models and they all have accomplished their purpose fairly well. The current 1000 has allowed me to cut back to it and 2 other device remotes at hand. I find it to be a great primary but some devices are more easily used with the discrete buttons on their own remotes rather than stepping thru layers of menus.
