    • C22 tube preamp (old classic Mk V), and MC462 solidstate poweramp
    • Yes its brand new speaker.   Low volume listening and lesser room interactions are the reason i considered horns. Not sure those would be the problem.   Nothing to blame on reproduced music at all, its crystal clear midrange, good highs. Its just does not sound real or rather sense of i am listening to speakers is there.
    • Good to hear that Al5 had more of it than Al6   I am yet to try good SET amp with la scala. I was suspecting that my current amplifiers (mcintosh c22 tube pre, MC462 solid state power amp) are not cut for it, though they are very neutal, and balanced.
    • Thanks. Will try other sources and see, will try a solid state pre if i can. I never liked tone controls on c22 tube pre, so usually its turned off. But i did try, it did not improve in positive way.
    • I own the AL5 myself and have had various other Heritage speakers before this. The AL5 does exactly what you would expect if you logically follow the Heritage ladder: more lively and dynamic than all the speakers below it on the ladder. And to be honest, I even found it to have more kick and dynamics than an AK6, which I had the chance to listen to briefly. I don’t know your amplifiers, but isn’t it possible to try other amplifiers to see if this makes a difference? When it comes to an experience of realism, I am personally a big fan of tube amplifiers, to be honest, with the 2A3 and 45 tube amplifiers sounding the most musical and realistic in my setup.
    • I'm assuming you purchased them new.   I can't imagine both speakers are bad.   Have you verified you have output on the midrange driver? The typical trick is to use a paper towel tube or rolled up magazine, placed between your ear and the driver. Check both drivers.   To me, components and wiring should not be an issue. Tubes/solid state; they both should be able to reproduce midrange with ease.   Are you actually playing them loud enough? I'm not saying "Piss Off The Neighbors" loud but at background levels those speakers won't be done justice. I would expect 80-90dB to be a good level.   Maybe it's your room acoustics?
    • Yes, you may want to change sources as in cd or other to check it out with. That pre may be mellowing maybe a tad much so, would definitely also want to try your tone control's. Is your music you are listening to dynamic in nature another. Congratulations on speakers and others definitely will be along with advice . @murali-reddy
    • So i have been owning a new La Scala AL5 just little more than month now. Must have out put 300+ hours by now. It was blind buy with out audition.    So after a month, i am very impressed with midrange, high's, expectation on lows was conservative to begin with so no strong view there.   i was hoping for immediacy in presentation, dynamics/transients to be strong point of La Scala. however i am not seeing anything particularly livlier presentation.   I am using all OCC copper interconnects, speaker cable, power cables, as i was told that Copper adds full bodied presentation to la scala , as it rolls of at 50hz.  Not sure if i need to mix bit of tinner copper or silver interconnects etc to add a bit of liveliness, open ness etc   I am pairing la scala with Mcitnosh tube pre and solid-state power amps and chord hugo tt2 dac. I stream from Aurender n200. Overall presentation is balanced and neutral its just that I was expecting more Klipsch (live sound) character.    Not sure if i am having wrong expectations.  Appreciate any advise.   I used to have few years back  rp-600m, paired with el34 SET and a nos R2R (Metrum), which sounded more dynamic and had tonal realism etc.    Wondering if i should change source components (though i thought chord house sound would complement klipsch well)?
