  2. Taking some time getting up this morning, Went to see hairball last night. I am not a huge fan of 80s rock, but do like a few. We mostly went out for my best buds bday celebration. Even dressed up for the event, I will have to see if anyone has a pic I can post. Had a great time last night, but from yelling and a few beers I am just not up for a cup of coffee. I am thinking oj.

  4. Very nice, your going to be very happy, nothing sounds better than a perfect match across the front 3. The speaker you were needing is not something you see very often at all, kind of rare really. Santa Minermark hooked you up like the kids say. Yes sir....i missed your comment a couple days ago. I have ran all h2's in 7ch...now im fiddling with the pro heresy style in 7ch. I will be going 9.2 and using the pros upper front and 1 in center where minermarks pro heresy will be in place with chorus ii mains and cornwall surround(lowers)...I just needed one and asked...my rooms getting prepped for the changes and i will change caps once it gets here...it will provide for great 3ch stereo tests and perfect match using bobs titanium in all 76's and 79's and the like...cant believe Mark had this single...iv had so many iv had to pass on and glad i had now with marks kpt showing up next week...cheers!

  6. A beautiful day shaping up here in the port city. Yard chores in store while the lady friend goes to a Kentucky Derby party. A charity fund raiser with ladies in big hats drinking mint juleps and men wishing they were somewhere else. On a roll having pressure washed the house and edged and cut the grass. Today the big job of pruning azaleas and boxwoods that I should make into a two day event to savor all the fun. Think I'll have the second cup on the patio...... Cheers Gents

  8. If I use a crimp connector I always crimp first then solder. So both for me.

  10. Thats if done right, a wise man once told me a good crimp would be better then a bad solder. I like the soldering to the ring terminals then bolting the terminals on. Those post are pretty thick, it would take some heat to heat them up to solder to them. I have had very good luck with crimping ring terminal and bolting them on, but if you think you can solder good then go for soldering the ring terminals for a permanent install.

  11. I would think if you have other means of video, and audio playing. I would go for the hard drive or ram up grade, as you will need those anyways to store and enjoy the music and videos your rip to your computer.

  13. Islander,Your reasonable and legitimate comment (highlighted in bold above) points to a weakness in Neil Young's promotion and marketing of PONO. IMO, the fact that the unit is relatively compact and portable is a bonus, not its reason for existence. Focusing on size (my wife has heard this from me for years) misses the ultimate goal. IMO, they should start by promoting it as the BEST way presently humanly possible to play digital recordings which preserve channel separation, dynamic range, frequency response and all other facets of the recording process that contribute to an experience that is as close as possible to live music, when played on excellent equipment. To do so--under the current state of art for the digital recording medium--PONO must forego the relatively small digital files that allow mass storage and ease of portability, but which also necessitate compression and other compromises regarding dynamic range, frequency response, etc. Under the best of circumstances, the retail market for the PONO hardware/digital process is extremely limited. Only those who are willing to make serious sacrifices (financial, room decor, aesthetic, etc.) will be interested in this digital device/medium. Many, if not most, of the enthusiasts who populate these forums are among the PONO target market. To me, it's merely a bonus that the hardware is relatively compact and portable. The size will allow me to easily move it to the high fidelity systems of others so that they too can experience the benefits (assuming they are real, as I expect they are, but I have not yet head it) themselves. I do not expect to Velcro a PONO player to my arm to then go for a jog. The current digital hardware with its small size and mass storage will continue to fill that need, where portability trumps Hi-Fi. PONO and others (supporters, skeptics and critics) seem to focus on the portability, rather than the absolute quality. It might be less confusing if it needed to be the size and weight of the MC2255. Then there would be no distraction caused by focusing on its size, shape and file storage, as compared to iPods and the like. As previously mentioned, I "pledged" $300 to get a black PONO player. Kickstarter is predicting delivery by October 2014. To me, it was worth the risk. At the very least, the response to the Kickstarter promotion demonstrates a significant demand for high quality digital recording and playback. I'll share my impressions when I get my PONO player. I truly hope those serious about experiencing high-fidelity (roughly translated to mean true to the original) support this, and/or other worthy efforts, to extract the full potential from the digital recording medium, something that mp3, CD, SACD, DVD, etc have not done. On the one hand, PONO is being marketed by artists and enthusiasts to enthusiasts. Even the, IMO, misguided choice of the name PONO (too close to porno, pony, pronto, etc.) shows a lack of slick marketing. On the other hand, it was slick marketing that brought digital music to the sorry state in which it currently finds itself. YMMV.

  16. For one, sound quality is subjective to the listener. And two, some SS amps mate very well with Klipsch. Many like myself, want amps that just plug and play. With all that said, I do get the tubes/Klipsch combo euphoria thing. Bill When I had my RF-7II paired with a SS amp They sounded awesome for HT but for music listening " Detail " wise they didn't cut it for me . Again personal opinion . As many of us would say... Suum cuique.

  18. I never experienced that -- it was expected that I would be respectful and polite, but not necessarily obey. I was encouraged to question authority, vocally, but politely. That's what my parents did, as well. My parents could not quite believe that some social ills were real, however ... at least until they were on the television news. By 1959 (I think it was) I had heard stories about police brutality, and repeated them at home. My parents really doubted that it existed. Then all of us were sitting around the television and saw news footage of a group of demonstrators sitting in a circle outside of San Quentin Prison to protest an execution. They had candles, and were singing "Michael Row The Boat Ashore." The police charged and beat the s*#t out of them. One cop picked up a girl by the ankles and swung her around in the air, then let her go. She flew through the air and her head crashed into a cyclone fence. I said, "Well, I guess there is such a thing as police brutality." Both parents agreed.

  19. Still had some Constitutional Legal Tender in circulation then (1950's) Silver Coins. Sure wish the founding fathers had made slavery illegal in the Constitution; that way we'd not have to worry about Ratification; as only Massachusetts would have done so, maybe. Point is not to be an advocate for slavery; but, to point out that of the 13 States that had slavery at the beginning of the War for Independence ONLY Massachusetts had outlawed slavery by wars end.

  30. If you could solder them neatly, nicely and professionally; I would go for it. If not, use the "eyelets" and screw them to the backside. Or, you could solder the wires to the eyelets and screws them on . On the other terminals (round/gray ones), you might have to do the soldering, no other options.

  31. A lot of changes between then and now. Both for the good and the bad. In the 50's if I hollered for mom, never knew for sure who would answer. Family camping trips where all us kids were watched over by all the parents. Or this little 7 pound dog. Never locked anything up, locks only kept out the honest folks. 10 was old enough to take the ski boat out on the lake. By 2nd grade you had better know to keep the barn clean. Saddle your own mount by 3rd grade after sneaking out the bedroom window so you could get an early ride in before it got hot. Didn't need a license to ride your motorcycle on the road if you weren't old enough for a drivers license. It was OK to race Jeeps while our dads were at work, and my uncle would leave the keys in his for us kids. Dad's didn't need a key. It was OK to contradict an adult as long as it was done respectfully and you had your facts to back you up. It was OK to make a stand on principle when you knew you were right, and your parents would back you. However if you were in the wrong, a switch or razor strap was not considered child abuse. If I could go back and do it all over again, I'd like to do a lot of things different. But I hope I'd have as much fun as I did growing up. John

  33. Not much respect around here for poor Sunfire.. I have owned a 10" sunfire subwoofer (not exactly sure of the model) and a SVS PB Ultra. The sunfire sub was a little monster, it didn't have as deep extension as the Ultra but it sounded fantastic. I bet two 12" HRS subs would have great frequency response and dig very deep. I would say buy the sunfire subs (depending on the deal) and give them a shot. If you don't like them, sell them on Craigslist for what you paid and buy the SVS.

  38. I doubt it. Old muscle cars (pre-72)mostly had big block engines. They were too front end heavy to pull the wheels off the ground without fiberglass front ends, weight mods and slicks. A proper Porsche might have a chance due to the weight distribution (40/60).

Nope I do not even like adult musicals, except for the movie Burlesque, and it wasn't really a musical. c'mon dtel have some heart I do, I let the grandkids watch it as loud as they wanted as they sang along and I never said a word. I asked when I put on for them if they wanted the TV sound or the speakers, they chose correctly, I knew what the answer would be.

  42. I have an Astell & Kern player. At $25 per album from HDTracks it is a bit expensive to replace lesser format albums. And I must admit, I am not sure I can tell the difference between good CD's and 24/96. And I sure can't tell the difference between 24/96 and 24/192 FLAC files.

  43. So, I am thinking of this for my DVD to Blu-ray upgrade: TV: Sony KDL-42W800 (I know it is only a 42" but I don't have space for a larger TV) Blu-ray Disc Player: OPPO BDP-103 Preamplifier: Yamaha AVENTAGE CX-A5000 Amplifier: Parasound Halo A 51 Now I'll just have to wait a few months to save up for the upgrade.

Reason(s) 100% fully stock and im the second owner, they appear to look like some of the last built, yes that fresh look. They are really in too small of space, crossover upgrade is planned, spreading them to 18' is planned. Ok, I need some more Coffee/Duggans, im starting to get in that mood, I want to hear those Dam critters!

  45. Good post Diz. I agree with every point. Just now I am playing a 180 gram Tom Waits/Crystal Gale LP, bought new and played maybe five times. I put it through the record vac twice, cleaned the stylus with the ZeroDust twice, used anti static brush, played it at perfect speed according to the strobe with an $800 dollar cartridge and still the grit sound remains. The recording is fantastic but the surface noise is distracting. Too many disc are like this....quiet ones are the exception. I have a large LP collection but I long for the day some format surpasses the status quo.

  46. IMO it's compression, poor performance, poor recordings and poor mixes that explain the sorry state of recorded music today. Many vinyl records sound very good because they were well recorded excellent performances that weren't compressed for file storage or mixed to be heard on car speakers. They don't sound good just because a tiny diamond is dragged over wavy plastic. Some of the posts in this thread focus too much on portability and the comparison of the triangular Pono player to iPods and the like. IMO that misses the point. Portability is not the primary goal of the Pono player. The fact that it can be easily transported from one SOTA stereo system to another is a bonus, not its reason for existence. Neil Young compared music streaming (Pandora, Spotify, etc.) to FM radio of old. He compared Pono to record players of old. The inferior sound quality of radio or streaming allows for portability and sampling of new music. The record, and now Pono, allow favored music to be experienced at the best quality the artist, producer, recording company, etc. choose to make available. Pono is not seen as replacing iPods, streamed audio, or even CDs, but rather as a way to get high quality recordings to play through high quality systems. Perhaps more important, the support for Pono, or similar devices, sends a message to the music industry that there is a demand for well recorded, excellent performances with all the dynamics and frequency range the digital medium permits. If those who demand more than is presently available from CDs, mp3s, etc. show support for Pono (or some other serious alternative) the likelihood that quality digital recordings will be available at a reasonable cost increases. If there isn't strong support, the industry could easily conclude that Mp3s are enough. One poster suggested that careful cleaning and handling of vinyl can remove ticks and pops. I disagree. Anyone who has followed the thread: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/145942-the-best-way-to-clean-preserve-vinyl/ understands the length to which I will go to extract the best possible sound from vinyl; and to help others do the same. Despite best efforts, vinyl is inherently prone to audio artifacts to which digital is not. I repeat, excellent vinyl recordings are excellent for many reasons, but being recorded to a vinyl disc is not one of them. The same information could be recorded and played back digitally without any possibility of surface noise, static, dirt, worn stylus, etc. The best digital has the potential to eclipse the best analog. What prevents that is a perception that the market is satisfied with mp3s, streamed audio, etc., and that consumers won't support the additional expense (or large file sizes) of high quality digital recordings of excellent music. Neil Young is trying to alter that perception. I wish him well. For $300 (about the cost of a very good cartridge) I'm willing to sample the product before condemning it. At the least it shows an interest in quality recorded music. The original goal of Pono on Kickstarter was $800,000.00, as of the time this was typed,"$3,786,498 pledged of $800,000 goal." If nothing else, the powers that be in the music industry ought to take note. YMMV

  47. We put the STADIUM up against the $3000 McIntosh piece and it simply destroys it. We took our time and we got it right. The electonics were done several months before the launch - usually the critical path in a program like this - and we spent most of that time perfecting the fit and finish and delved into the minutia of tweaking firmware to make sure that setting it up and running it is like second nature. Connecting the STADIUM to your WiFi is now as simple as connecting your iPhone to the USB and pushing a button - the STADIUM gets the WiFi credentials from your iPhone (or Touch or iPad) and connects itself to your home router. I've hade a Beta system at home for about 6 months now - we've been testing electronics and firmware for over a year now - and I'm jealous that I don't have a Production or at least a Pre-Production unit... the fit and finish is that much better... but even the Beta is "not to shabby". We ran two separate Beta builds and two separate Pre-Production runs; to say that we fussed over this one would be an understatement. The cabinet is cast aluminum, quite expensive and very rigid, yet the construction is such that it is acoutically dead when you rap it with your knuckles. The tweeter is the titanium LTS unit from the Reference line. The midrange also operates in compression and is an aluminum dome. By doing this, excursion and therefore the distortion is ruduced in the critical midrange. The system is tri-amplified (six amplifier channels) with all the signal processing done in the digital domain. Pick the unit up, and you will realize that it has quite a heft to it, about 30 pounds worth, in fact. A new feature in the Klipsch Air app allows me to adjust tone controls to match my placement and room acoustics. Now, more often that not, it is what I listen to at home. Except for the fact that can charge and play music over my iPhone's USB cable, it's not "a dock" in any sense of the word - it is my go-to home music system that, if needed, can also go to any room of my house.
