  1. I know most of HT is RF, so I was looking through some old pics and thought you might want to see to pics of them being built ? I know very little about the Rf line, we have some RB-75's but that's all. All these are in Hope, so I guess it's RF-7's, you all would know better ?

  4. I have an integrated yaqin 10L that has some mods with big power cord and some vintage tubes in it. Its crystal clear at idle as well as pause. Sounds absolutely wonderful with gobs of power and all for about $1k Iv heard amps that cost more than homes and sure id love to own one of them to sell... yaqins are a very economical and good alternative to the big dollar tube gear Everybody that buys most of these Chinese tube units keep it/them unless they bought to test/examine or need money and a some people buy big dollar brands to feel cool. Yaqin offers way more for pennies on the dollar. Amazing is all I can say to the Chinese on their tube gear! And thanks!

Ah yes, here we go again....I really wish you would take your rude, selfish, personal attack attitude elsewhere....I really don't care how long you've supposedly been here, how much stuff you own, how much money your have, or how many "posts" you have, I for one would breathe a sigh of relief knowing that I could post or read other posts that didn't contain your excrement. There. I said it.

  12. Beeker, I never though to that. I have sold several amps in the last 1 1/2 years but, kept the Yaquin. I guess that is saying a lot.. It is very interesting. I watch for the 10L I have for sale on ebay from time to time and have only seen 1 that was for sale used in over a years time. Never seen any other used yaqins. Even the music angels which are different although made and distributed by the same group are never for sale used. I sold a factory stock yaqin 10L about a year ago to a local friend that wanted to try tube gear....he is as well very happy with it. I have done side by side comparisons with a good amount of mid to high(not side by side w/ultra high end) end tube gear and cannot justify the price of gear costing excessive amounts honestly, just for the brand name. Sure McIntosh gear is labled in America although the internals...well I hate to burst bubbles they are near all originally foreign. Yes there are very nice caps to gold leads etc...within some gear etc..."some" assembly may be in New Jersey but nothing is 100% American and regardless I want to save my American dollars. I support our nation as much as possible and a line has to be drawn where the 350%+ markup is at...or the jabs the Chinese may make taking and making average people happy consumers and yes others have names going back into the 1950's+ yet again as the price point for the same thing for a brand name, well china gets my applause for such great copies. The stock 10L is very good. With a good honest tech and few hundred dollars these Chinese units can be taken up a notch. Even before that better tubes(or a bit of rolling) and a good power cord for a couple hundred $ you will get a little more out of these copied amps and gear. There is an American distributor out of Illinois that uses Yaqin and others under the name SILK that are made in china. Some of these units have some very low quality tubes and have not found as much welcome from new tube consumers who do not try better tubes to get what they would find better but there is an American movement with Chinese units. Also the negativity some people have with china has made this SILK gear from much of a warm reception. Also the Yaqin/music angel direct online site offers some very nice high end cables to dac's as well as pre's and amplifiers. I do suggest some tube rolling to get the tone a Mcintosh or the like would provide as well as a thicker power cable. If you may not like it compared from there a good honest tech can do a little work to get what $4-5k tube amps do.

  15. As far as I know I am the person who first posted about doing this, I figured the weight out by trial and error with a pre chosen bass tuning signal from a test tome CD and I watched the woofer and adjusted the weight until the woofer was not moving so I knew that I was on the chosen frequency with the weight used. Making more bass with EQ is not the same thing at all. This is a new lower tuning frequency for the passive. Because of the way I did it id did not need to measure anything to know I had tuned at my chosen frequency, the fact that the passive was doing all the moving and the woofer was not moving is the proof of that. You cannot simply keep lowering the tuning at will it does not work that way you need to remember the woofer drives the passive and the woofer only goes as low as it goes. So I look to lower 3 - 4Hz the new tuning frequency. You also have to consider the range of motion of the passive also. There is a very small down side to lowering the tuning frequency and that is you will give up a small amount of efficiency but it is not much and the extra bass depth is well worth the trade in my view. Hope that helps answer your question. Best regards Moray James.

  16. Dtel, he will need one of these... 454 cubic inch big block Chevrolet V8 produces 412 horsepower Just in case your havin' any trouble removing snow from your driveway... this baby will blow snow back to where it came from. If you're tired of anemic, one-lung snow blowers with their slipping drive belts, you might consider Kai Grundt's V8 snow blower which raises the bar on the traditional snow blower in every respect. With electric start, electric block heater, antifreeze heater and eight cylinders, it has no drive belts to freeze up and you'll never get bored with the job as the 454 cubic inch big block Chevrolet V8 produces 412 horsepower, 430 foot pounds of torque and can throw snow 50 feet at just 3500 rpm. Nor will you get cold as the machine has been ingeniously designed to route the engine coolant through the handle bars, with the rear mounted, enclosed radiator keeping the operator nice and cozy. Maneuvering the massive beast (it has a total wet weight of 912 lbs) is a breeze thanks to the hydraulic-drive 4WD skid steer on independent walking beams which offers a zero turning radius. It's also as fast as you like, with an infinitely adjustable speed range on the drive wheels via dash mounted flow control. At the opposite end of the scale, it has more than enough torque to pull your car out of the ditch before the hydraulic motors stall! Adding to the well-balanced feel of the unit, just 15 pounds of down force on the handlebars will lift the auger blade off the ground in order to climb stairs/walkways for ease of snow removal. Safety has and continues to be paramount with spring return to center "fail safe" type directional controls with emergency stop and tether cords. Safety is one of the key themes, with a flashing blue light (as required by law in many areas) being the least of the safety features. No-one will fail to hear you with those twin throaty exhausts, which come standard with 92 decibels at the controls, though if the rumble of a V8 exhaust is music to your ears, you can obviously go much louder. Even at the standard baffling, hearing protection is strongly suggested. The powerful yard machine lights and a dashboard with back lit gauges complete the package to ease the burden of this normally reviled task. The custom 42 inch, two stage auger has a Chevrolet 10 bolt truck differential with spool and a centrifugal auger clutch with shear pin protection, further adding to the image of this "automotive theme blower." As each unit is custom-built, optional extras for the snow blower are both diverse and outrageous as the base unit - there are unlimited auger choices from single to multistage designs and various motor combinations to suit the religious preferences of the customer (Chevy, Dodge Hemi, Ford) and such exotica as a V-10 or a diesel engine or remote starting can be accommodated. And if, after a while, you feel you've outgrown the 400 horses, this particular engine is well catered for in the performance modification area, with Lunati camshaft, Milodon Gear drive, Holley and Edelbrock components to name a few, and there's always the fuel injection option too, if you feel you need to throw the snow out of the county or ensure your seat in the "neighborhood blower blingster hall of fame."

  17. Never met a Marantz I did not like. I will state they are all from the 70's. I may be wrong, but I would not be afraid to buy a marantz surround sound receiver.
    1 point
  18. Been considering a look at newer Marantz as well, say 2007+ For me the looks appeal and am curious about the sound. Sure sounds like some others here like them. Guessing the newer inherited that vintage warm sound like others sometime find in the Yamaha. For 2 channel, I do not know. There may be a couple of Marantz out there with your name on them. I got an Nak AV500 for a bargain...no wait that was from you... Good Fortune and happy hunting!

  19. You know, rereading this...I don't think my goal was clear either. I'd like to step up to something that...well...sounds better. I've read a lot about how people like Marantz receivers (but I also read about the $2000 pricetag on most, hence why I can only assume a $500 receiver would be low brow). I'd like to have something that can handle 2-ch just fine, but something that can deliver some immersive surround as well for movies. Do my Yamaha's work fine? Yeah...but they're also fairly old, two of them have faulty volume controls, and they're not handling any of the newer surround technologies very well - actually they're doing a rather poor job of it.

  22. I had the same thing happen with my Yamaha RX-A1030. Since my fronts were set to “LARGE”, the receiver deemed them adequate enough to produce enough low frequency and didn’t send a signal to the sub when set to 2 channel (paraphrasing from the manual). The RX-A1030 has a setting called “Extra Bass” that I had to turn on in order to send low frequencies to the sub during 2 channel listening. Luckily, it only seems to affect 2.1 channel listening and not 5.1 (bass isn’t over powering when watching TV). It also turns my sub "off" when I select "Pure Direct Mode". I copied this part from the Denon AVR-3312CI manual from Crutchfield. I didn't see anything about an extra bass type feature like the Yamaha. Maybe try setting your fronts to small? However it would change the frequency for the RF-82II's.

  32. A bandpass limits the out put of the squawker driver. Please see detailed description from Bob Crites below: I can provide a little technical information of using the Klipsch titanium midrange to replace the orignal phenolics. On the trace below, the red is an original K-53 phenolic diaphrgm and the green is the K-53TI titanium midrange diaphragm on the same 700 hz horn. We see slightly higher average output for the titanium than the phenolic. The phenolic output drops like a stone at 6khz where the tweeter takes over. That allows the crossover to be pretty simple since there is no reason to roll off the midrange. But, the titanium diaphragm keeps on going, in fact heading for a peak at around 7.3khz before it drops off. So, if the titanium diaphragm is used in place of the phenolic without a crossover mod, you would have the midrange and tweeter both at full output at the same time around 7khz. 37. Yeah completely stock mids, I don't know if I will ever do titanium. maybe replace with just some new ones that sound better? or do they all sound the same until you get to titanium? On a weird note I put my ear up to a mid and could hear a slight buzz come out of it, whats weird is that the power was off on the amp the cd and even the power strip breaker bar and had been off for days. it even still did it when I unhooked the speaker wires. The only thing I can figure out it that its from the power stored in the capacitors and inductors slowly draining through the mid, weird though. Anyway I did the washer trick the two washers weighed .12lbs on the scale at work a dab of hot glue to secure them might have brough it up to .14 lbs or 2.4 oz. The only thing I notice is that the one I did just digs a little deeper not sloppy or anything just a tad bit deeper. So I did both and they are just pleasantly a tad bit deeper overall, not sloppy at at really. If you like yousr the way they are then leave them alone. I used to play drums so I like to feel the kick drum. one of the reasons I built my own subwoofers with 18" subs, lol.

  40. steel is fine it does not matter if the dead weight is magnetic or not. low profile weight is important to maintain passive stability. 2.5 ounces is a good weight, don't use more than that. Enjoy. Best regards Moray James.

  44. several years ago i traded for my first true 500x2@8ohms solid state amplifier. At the same time i got a nice vintage12x2@8ohms tube amp. I was running 5.1 to 7.2 at the time and could run equal stereo on all channels. I ran the 500x2 ss on main fronts and ran the 12x2 tube amp on my surrounds...anyhow mains were cornwalls and surrounds were klipsch thx ultras. The 12x2 ran on the cw's or klipsch ultras kept up with the 500x2 on the opposite pr of speakers very very well. I also tried many many other setups at the time using solid state at front and tube surrounds in all modes through several pre amps including an adcom gfa 500II in stereo as well as side by side and without computer comparisons then or now tube just sounded amazing. If you have not tried a tube amp i suggest you do just to check it out. I try everything and use what works best for the best price possible these days. I currently use a few tube amps in rotation biamping mids/highs at the moment but sort of prefer new, modern tube amps with new tubes although have several vintage tube amps and nos tubes in my collection. i prefer new myself due to the maintnance and upkeep of vintage tube amps.servicing equipment is a must. new tube amps use new tubes better than old with new and vice versa...depending on upgradesof vintage equipment. My vintage amps are original no modern caps although 2 in particular were 60's factory ceo modded. What im getting at is that it is in the ears of the beholder . . . . litterally. I prefer solid state due to cost(actually tube if i could afford)although not using that old of vintage klipsch. The sensitivity of klipsch speakers is where you will find the key. khorns with a sensitivety of 105db on a 5 watt tube amp is so much more efficient than anything period. I use for my main room 2 center pro heresys with a sensitivety of 103 each both on approx 60 watts on tube amp which equals a lot in ss comparison of wattage. Tube wattage should be multiplied by approximately 3 to equal its solid state cohorts. Then using vintage or new klipsch being so efficient you get some major purity in sound. This is in somebodys avatar here in the forum...horns like tubes and woofers like solid state and its true although you can find a lot of profound fun comparisons between the 2 although this sttement is very true to the ear

  45. if you look at the numbers the Forte ll extends far deeper than the Chorus does so level aside you get a better balance with the Forte ll compared to the Chorus. I think that you need to decide what woofer size that you prefer. They all sound different the all have different compromizes. You should also be considering the CF3 and or the CF4. The CF4 with dual 12 inch woofers will push far more air than a single 15 inch woofer can and the two way design of the CF series will integrate is a far shorter distance than a 3 way will making it much more domestically adapatable in that you can sit much closer to it than to a 3 way design. The prices of both the speakers that you are looking at are good but neither is a stunning deal. I would not be looking for a Chorus or Forte as both use the K701 mid horn I would only be interested in the Forte ll and the Chorus ll as they both use the same hybrid tractrix mid horn. You have options so why not check them out? Do some woofer size comparrisons and decide which size you like the best then go from there. That will make your sellection process much easier. Best regards Moray James.

  46. If you can try to demo both with same cd and amp. They are both a good price but if the forte II's were in good shape offder $400. In a great world both would solve it all. On the other hand the 15" driver in any klipsch cabinet is incredible in optimum conditions. What are looking to drive each with and what conditions will they be in? The Chorus will be a bit easier to place in a sense. For optimum performance the forte2 needs a corner in my opinion. It is a tough call and i would let the money do the talking. If you need to save buy the forteII. I would offer the chorus guy $500 and if he dont, move along . . unless he meets you at $525-550 or wherever you would feel more comfotable. I have used all the above as mains at 1 time or another and would probably get the forte 2's if he would go $400 although $425 is a good price but asking for a deal might help make the decision. Many people i Know have the chorus 1 as their forever to the end of time mains in large collections a couple in particular. I also know groups that say the forte II is the best klipsch speaker ever made and their pockets are deep. It would be up to you after a demo, and i would be a bit honest to the seller/s. Your golden ears make the difference within the space and use you have for them...by the way if you still own the kg5.5's get the chorus for sure. Again in my opinion you would have a very even range between the 2 compared to kg5.5 & forte II although any of the 2 or all 3 sound good together. good luck!
