  1. If a "bone" is $100. what is $1,000?

  2. Morning gang, up a tad early. Dryer problem solved, forgot Gas appliances cost more on the front end, $4bones is not to bad considering the "Other" ones that do everything except make the coffee in the morning. All tough, salesman standing next to me, handling my questions, i ask about the Samsung for $1200, i point, this is a dryer? He stated, yes, So what are all these computer controls all over this thing? what else does it do? Dry cleans, steams, and drys clothes, and alerts your smart phone as to the progress. Thanks sir, wrap up that Whirlpool over there, Friday delivery.

  3. 63 degrees and sunny.....may take critter to the beach for a walk. Coffee done and LF off to tennis. Delivered the LF's Martin D45 to authorized Martin repair guy in Raleigh. Did I mention he is laid back? He came to the door at 11:00 am in pajamas and bedroom shoes. Works out of his home. Then had a nice lunch and a 3 mile walk in Umstead Park prior to the drive home. Nice day Cheers Gents

  4. Congratulations We worked together everyday also for about the last 20+ years, people always asked how we did it, we never really had an answer, it just seemed normal ?

  5. You have me by 2 cords, we need another one soon. We use about 2 a year if is a bad winter, we use it in a heater not a fireplace and it's very efficient which is a good thing it's our only heat. ONE big thing is we don't live in Maryland, quite a difference in winters. What do you do with all your leaves ?

  6. It got cold enough here for us to turn our central heat on last night. Every 3 or 4 years the stupid furnace decides to puke up a circuit board so.........no heat. Coffee was good this morning though.

  7. Count your blessings!! It's single digit temps and snow in Denver metro this a.m. Good news regardless of that .... we're getting our Springer Spaniel rescue pup on Sunday. Couldn't be happier. Have a great day everyone.

  9. Good morning to all. Weather still ok here, should be 60 by the afternoon. Should be getting much cooler at the end of the week. We got 3 cords of wood delivered to the house on Monday. Still gotta get the chimney cleand, should have done this a few weeks ago. This is also the time of the year where I have to deal with the........LEAVES.......it's a battle every year.....but this year I have a new piece of equipment. It's a Pro-Billy Goat leaf vac.....oh yea....it's on a swing hitch on my F250. This summer I made a enclosure for the back of my truck. So I'll suck those leaves up and shoot them into the back of the truck. Now to get them out of the truck....pull the pin on the hitch the unit swings away from the tail gate, I'll open the doors on my enclosre and use the Billy Goat to suck them out the truck. It's on this year. Take care all, I'll check in later.....Mark :-)

  10. Corollary: Why is it the MAN's responsibility to LOWER the lid, and not the WOMAN's responsibility to RAISE it after SHE is done?

  11. Why do women prefer to throw their butt blindly toward the toilet bowl, then proceed to chew out the man because she 'fell in' when she could have taken two seconds to lower the lid herself? It's not like she just did her nails and is waiting for the paint to dry.

  12. Yeah I thought it was pretty dumb to be honest. From Sandra Bullock's moaning in such a way that she would know which way is up, to George's trademark demeanor even in this ridiculous situation, to the absurdity of finding a perfectly operational yet unmanned space station just conveniently hanging out, the whole thing was ill conceived.

  13. We're fortunate. There are 2 palate companies near where I work. Their oak scraps consist of 2x12's roughly a foot long. They vary wildly in size though. For $25.00 you can fill the bed of your pick up. They'll scoop and load whatever size low boy you have for $30.00.

  18. The international unmanned spacecraft Rosetta will be dropping a landing craft on the Comet 67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko, AKA Cherry-Gerry, tommorrow morning. The ship was launched 10 years ago for this event. It is unprecedented. To see the entire journey, and the future mission journey, go here: http://sci.esa.int/where_is_rosetta/ The live video feed is here: http://new.livestream.com/accounts/362/events/3544091/player These are exciting times. If everything goes as planned, we will have confirmation of the landing by about 11:00 AM Eastern Standard Time, or in about 11 hours from this post. The landing will take place 500 million kilometers from us, is moving at about 135,000 kph, is rotating, is small (4km across) , has no gravity, shooting out jets from time to time, and by my calculations about a half hour each way communication. Talk about a tough mission!

  19. We all had so much fun at the last gtg in Oct., I was hoping to keep the ball rolling. To help plan the next gtg let's start to set a tentative date and start the ball rolling. 1.) Would early Dec. work? 2.) How often for the gtg? Nov. and Dec are busy months for a lot of people with all the Holidays and accompaning festivities. If this is not a good time then we will be into 2015. Fellowship should also be a major part of the gtg. I am open to hosting the next gtg and depending on when it is, family and significant others are welcome to attend.

  20. That's nice, neither could I. That's specifically what I talking about. I'm sure it was. 115-120 dB is after all, quite breathtaking in the most literal sense. We're both on the same page here...we've just gone about things differently, system-wise. Among other things, one primary difference is sensitivity. Not really, but you can start by taking (ie listening) to the advice of people who've already achieved your goal. Depends on a lot of variables. Particularly one's definition of "boost". You'll get there eventually. You definitely know the sound you're after and that's a great start. That's what got me going too. Here's a tip: At a rock concert, that hole between the mains and the subwoofer is filled by using an engineer.

  21. If you can't get any help here you should try the AVSforum, DIY subwoofer section. There are several members there that model and design subs with this software.

  26. Good deal, pallets wood burns well, I don't know what type of Oak they use but it's usually really tough. I had some Live Oak pieces once and a friend used his splitter to split them is was straining to break them. I would hardly burn, it was so hard it wouldn't light unless there was a thick bed of coals to get it started.

  27. That's with live sound where the low end of the signal crest factor is typically in the 14-18 dB range. With recorded playback, achieving those level of transients is a whole 'nother challenge because, given the source material, the information simply isn't there. This is why us horn guys are always comparing and often times complaining about the DR rating of certain albums. Live sound technique to home sound is not necessarily a direct translation. There are certain caveats to be aware of. I could care less about accurate orchestra music, I want to sound like I'm inside a hard rock concert. I used to be in a band where we sent the kick drum and sometimes my bass through six pro audio Yamaha 18's and I was 10 feet away. It was nothing short of amazing. I've been chasing that sound ever since. It may not be totally possible but I got quite a bit closer with my last setup, running two RF-7ii's full range with two 15's right behind me. I got a good low thump that I can feel and the RF-7ii's handle the attack well, the sound of the beater on the skin seems to come from the screen and the thump follows so it sounds cool. But, it's just not the same. The initial attack and upper realm of what concert subs would typically handle is nowhere near as powerful. The RF-7ii's actually do sound pretty accurate on good kick drum material but the power you get from live sound just isn't there. There seems to be a gap in the home, this black hole that exists somewhere between subs and mains that you get on live sound. I think you could almost do it if you had pro audio 18's up front that handled a wider range of frequencies, definitely higher than the 80 hz that most people cross over at for home theater subs. But, that's going to screw other things up, voices and bass guitars would sound boomy since there's no dedicated channel that you're boosting like you can at a concert. So yeah I'm probably chasing unicorns that are ridden by leprechauns but yeah live sound in the home is what I'd like to achieve. When you boost the subs in the home to boost the kick drums then things will just sound sloppy. I keep viewing this as a shortcoming of my subs but maybe it goes well beyond that because I get similar results with both the Klipsch R-SW115 and two sealed Ultimax 18's with an iNuke 6000 on them. The fast attack that you get on live sound subs just doesn't exist. You can shake the room and your chair but it just isn't the same. Getting RF-7ii's and running them full range is the biggest thing that helped with this sound but I can't get the kind of volume you need to pound your chest in with them.

  29. I've seen a lot worse damage to speakers. I would say list your center channel for $500 and your surrounds for $450. You can always come down if you feel the need to negotiate.

  32. Still running these less than perfect with my old Cornscala parts. But I am very impressed with the overall so far. The 1" box and braces are very good. Excellent low end compared to stock Belles and LaScalas. Bob has shipped me a new pair of drivers and XOs. I should be running 2way by the end of the week if USPS comes through. Final thoughts and photos to come.

  34. I've talked with this guy, and he's a real piece of work....Operates out of the Indianapolis area. His ads always ask for a phone number, or he won't respond. Here's one: http://fortwayne.craigslist.org/ele/4736238068.html He goes by many alias's, Chuck, Charles, Lee, Dennis, Barbara, Barb, etc. Southern accent and talks a lot...... Do not dare give this guy your phone # or email. He will harass you and threaten you to no end. He is well known in the Indy area and vintage audio sites as a scammer and is very unstable. He is under investigation for scamming on facebook audio site. He also may use a Terre Haute phone number. If you have unfortunately dealt with this guy and are being harassed, please contact the Indy police dept. He is partial to large vintage receivers like Pioneer, Marantz, and Sansui.

  39. my wife is a compulsive vacuumer (two dogs and a cat that shed, a toddler, and an infant) and her dyson was the best purchase ever. expensive cost of entry, but i love them because they are extremely modular and all of the common parts which break or fail can be easily purchased and replaced.

  40. My wife has asked for steamers, and vacuums for Christmas before. I thought it was a trap, but tested the water. She loves things like that, I guess I am lucky. Have a warm day folks, we went from 60 to 6 in 24 hours. I have a 15 year plan, and in the end its to move to Texas where it is warmer.

Certainly don't hesitate to ask any questions about the DIY stuff. In fact, as soon as I get a couple of free hours, I'll draw out and post the schematic for this amp in case anyone wants to buld their own. Maynard

  46. No. Try cables to eliminate the problem. I'm a very firm believer is wireless being cool but it's not for everything. And to me anything to do with speakers or wireless hdmi for some newer projectors is stupid for this very reason. Interference. I would be very upset if I had spent the money you spent on those two subs and wireless kit just for my subs to sit around and belch at me without saying excuse me.

  47. Try Tim Reynolds and Dave Matthews at radio city. I like the stereo mix much more on that one. But it's one of the few that are. Prolly like that. Most rare gonna be optimized for surround.
