  5. Adidas were the hot tennis shoes we wore in the 70's . . . white leather with green stripes were the top tier, especially for us athletes. If an athlete worn anything else, it was scorn city! You could get by with just a raised eyebrow or two if you wore Nike optic green tennis shoes though. I had thise for the off season or when the Adidas needed a wash and air dry. I worked at a movie theater as a projectionist for $1.50 an hour to save up and get my first pair. I actually still have one of those pair from the 70's ai occasionally wear.

  6. I've bought enough new Klipsch's in the past 3 months that it took three 18 wheelers to deliver them. No they weren't full, but I think it was four pallettes full of them. Yep. the fine hardworking men and woman at klipsch thank you

  7. Tennis shoes? I did not have any shoes until I could get a job in the local pool hall as a rack, which introduced me to pool hustling and 10% of the take off of 10 tables. Tender yet savvy age of 14. Sign of a mispent childhood, I know. So, instead of the dried blackeyes, you could go with fresh frozen and be able to skip the step of soaking but, wash them off anyway, I say. Bush's Best Beans, and maybe another brand do a black eye in a can. Watch what you are getting though cause some are already seasoned. As for the juice in the can sometime loaded with sodium, this can be dumped and peas rinsed off. Seasoning from smoked ham, pork desired for the beans. White rice preferred for the traditional, but this is not sacred. And then the fresh pork, smoked ham. Pepper cornbread and deserts of your choice, of course. Old traditions die hard! Edit: I was lying about the shoes.

  9. I went to school in Baltimore City and the three shoes you could wear were: Jack Purcells, Converse and the PF flyers. Man those kids were brutal if you wore some Keds or some phony Jacks. I wore the Jacks and I still have a few pair they are hard to find. I have a pair of Pink Floyd Jack Purcells, I found them about six years ago.....I had to get-em lol lol :-) I'll try to get a pic......if ya want to see them.....

  12. Not a good afternoon. Picked up a pc virus while trying to figure out this flash drive situation. On the LF's mac now. It was great to see her and she brought me a bottle of Irish whiskey from her trip to Ireland Tyrconnell single malt. I told her that it has been a crummy afternoon except for the help I received here and the dragon fly loan from the very generous minermark. It was LF who reminded me that good things happen when you do good yourself ( Christmas gift to Joe). The favor returned by Mark! So there is something to this paying it forward May be out of commission till I get the bug out of my pc It has been said numerous times but this is a great community.

  14. Gloomy here as well. LF just called...picked up her Martin guitar in Raleigh on her way back home. Veneer repaired. She is happy. She should be home around 5:30. Watching Breaking Bad marathon and looking at DACs that were suggested. Mark is sending me one so I will be okay unless Earlitis strikes down the road. So still to do.....practice guitar, poor a cocktail, and get ready to head over to see the LF Wish me stamina guys

  17. And you thereby name the two factions of this Forum and audiophilia in general. I've always thought it extraordinary that those of one camp can even tolerate those of the other, much less get along as well as we do most of the time. It's really only threads like this one where one camp simply fails to comprehend the other and friction develops. Dave Yeah, when someone suggests we to spend $1095 with dubious justification, I question it. I probably went about it the wrong way, because I wish no animosity between any other forum members. So my apologies for channeling Peter Aczel curmudgeonyness, and respect to all. It's a great community we have here. I hope that everyone views the entire discussion with about the same level of seriousness as "Raiders suck! Broncos suck!" bickering. So with that, GO TEAM SCIENCE!

  23. Mornin' all. Running slow. Sorry I missed all the talk about PF Flyers, decisive indecision over DACs and Tarheel's dilemma. Wish I could help, but my mom made we wear Keds, so I'm probably not qualified. Oh well. ( I did get Converse in Jr. High!) We have one awful cold spell out here. The 'high' today will be in single digits. The only solution is to stay in and play some rock 'n roll on the B. Be well and stay warm.

  24. Be patience. Maybe Tarheel will pass his Spanish Fly stick DAC down to you when he upgrades.

  25. It was about as difficult to convince him to buy it too. For our Audio Anonymous meeting, Earl and I were comparing our Lists of Shame for 2014. He bought a lot more electronics (and definitely higher end stuff), I bought more speakers, and I am sure I logged more miles. We are searching for the next AudioA meeting (and looking forward to the swap meet afterwards).

  27. Bet your posture is better already, didn't know that's what PF meant all these years. Could you run faster and jump higher, or is that another brand ?

  28. I second the Schiit Modi, Justin Weber uses 1 as well I use a different brand but there was a thread on this thing and some had decided it really was the Schiit.

  30. I'm not going to claim to be as good of a story teller as thebes...because, hey...who is? I'm an academic writer...that means I add little numbers next to ideas and hope someone pays attention to where the ideas come from (most of the time). This evening, I stumbled upon Alex's post over transparency. But honestly, I read that thread - and I think to myself "hell, I might actually love the company that much too." Anyway, I love you guys, my wallet hates all of you, and I'm pretty sure the audio-craving is a contagious one now ever since joining here. When I joined here, I had a pair of RF-3 II's and a Gen II Quintet system...now, all but 2 speakers and 3 subwoofers are Klipsch born-and-raised. Those 2 speakers by the way are 1998 Jamo Cornet 175's (oh Chad!), they can hold their own without too much worry. At any rate - there's a certain fuzzy feeling and a special place I have for my RF-3's - and that's mainly got to do with how I received them. Growing up, I was not a child who did the toy thing. I think my idea of toys was limited to model airplanes - otherwise...it was big-boy toys. TV's, VCR's, Amplifiers, Tuners, and Speakers. I'm a product of two band directors - two symphony chair players - a song writer, and a music producer. Members of my family have played for Manheim Steamroller, Alabama, and Guns N Roses at various gigs around the Midwest. Those same family members have also been involved in musical performances in theater as well. I was raised on a trombone, played with cellos, blasted out with the trumpet. I toyed around with the piano, and banged on drums and always had a guitar within reach (unless it was my grandma's, then it was a ukulele). I live in a world of perpetual music - melody, beat, and rhythm - the same one I was raised in. When I was 6...my dad bought be a GE boombox. Yeah! Detachable speakers too! I was totally a boss then (I look at some of you with your kids and RF-7's...trust me, I'm so jelly). I kept that thing until I melted the faceplate off it next to a bonfire on one 4th of July. Before I did that though, I bought an Aiwa NSX-AJ20 Shelf Unit...which survived all the way from January of 2000 (I bought it with birthday money) to November of this year. It was with that system that my brother and I would have "Stereo Wars"...where we'd try to overshoot volume against each other. Of course, he had a pair of MTX floorstanders and a Yamaha V390...I had an Aiwa...lol. 2002 - I had a Kenwood HTB system...with my first subwoofer, and first surround speakers. VR-414...couldn't shake the floors too much with it, but we tried. In early '02...I acquired some JBL Northridge speakers - the models of which I can't remember...those were my first floorstanders...they sadly did not survive the move from the old house to this one (they perished in 2007). The Kenwood sub lasted until late last year somehow. Anyway...it was 2002 and my school experience was not doing well. Straight F's in fact! 7th grader with no ambition for the course materials...and was made fun of by just about every student in the school. I missed so many days of school that it wasn't even funny. I still loved talking audio, and had since made friends with a manager at one of the local electronics stores. One day that same manager (Ian) had called my mom, and we both went over to talk to him. He handed me the 2002 catalogue of Klipsch speakers and pointed at a pair of RF-3 II's, and said that if I could stick out the year at school and not miss a day...and at least pass...they'd work out getting me a pair. I had no idea at the time he was literally going to do half-off + a free speaker with that deal for me and my mom...I was 12...and they were beautiful to me. I made it through that year (that was my last year I attended traditional school...I dropped out in 8th grade, got my GED in '07 and went right into a Tier-1 Private College in '12) and I got my first pair of speakers...the very same ones that are in my bedroom, and the same ones that I spent all of these last 4 months finally completing (with the RC-3 II, RS-3 II's, and now the RB-3's). It is with that accomplishment, that I feel like I finished what I started on this system, and I never foresee myself parting with them. They're not the 7's, not even the 5's...they're older and smaller - but they damn well look better than just about any of the other RF-3 II's out there still. I babied these speakers every day...and still do. So for me...these specific towers are more than just a signature of great sound that my mother and a good friend got me going on. They're also a symbol to me that I survived a teenage hell, and am still going strong. Funny what happens when you realize that you're bleeding copper. 12 years after the first Klipsch speaker ended up in my house, the whole house finally turned. What will the next 12 bring me?

  35. Any speaker regardless of cost can sound like crap if not implemented into a system and listening room properly and to think that just because someone pays $20,000 for a loudspeaker should be exempt from these facts is not realistic. As far as individual preferences and what represents a good value that's for each person to decide for themselves. What always makes me shake my head is people going around expressing opinions without any first hand experience. By the way anyone with some P39F that would like to trade for some KPT904 let me know I have 3 of them.... :-) miketn

  37. ive never heard this center but I am 100% confident that the pro line will spank it. I can tell you right now of some who have heard the 904's I have next to palladium p-39's and they all agreed it was a night and day difference. And I'm sure the p-39 is more impressive than the center. Not sure why you don't believe me that the pro line is Klipsch's best speakers. If you have the space for them then get em.

  38. I never got sick nor did any of my trip mates. We boiled everything pretty hard to kill bacteria and mixed the shroom water with kool aid. Biggest issue was not knowing how much to drink so you kept drinking till you felt something and by then it was too late. Still haven't figured out why I did it the second time.

  49. Paul, Very nice descriptions you have given. Since I have hooked up the Moondogs to my LS, I have made a few observations. The bass isn't quite as solid/tight. However, I am finding I am listening to music at a lower volume and actually hearing more detail. Acoustic instruments sound very natural. Symphonic music is incredible. My youngest son, a trumpet player, music composition major, and member of the Valparaiso U. Orchestra. He loves the SETs. My SS sounded great, but I can easily live with what I am currently using for a long time. Bruce
