  12. Happy Monday to all. Turned out some good mesquite burgers and we watched Brad Pitt's portrayal of Jesse James on the HT last night. Good movie from 2007 if you haven't seen it. Mark, with your wife's approval, there's nothing left but to remodel your kitchen. Like the way the speakers are color coordinated with the tile. Who could object??

  18. Ever try pecan? Outstanding! Yes it is, but I've only used it for smoking turkeys and chicken. Nice mild smoke flavor. For burgers, I direct grill over a hot fire and throw in 3 or 4 chunks of dry mesquite and cook 'em like a steak.

She currently runs Celtic tunes through her Mono blocks to her Khorns, and i might add, "CRANKED". Im amazed SHE has not pizzed off a neighbor YET!

  22. Holy smokes, first it's the repudiation of any evidence that global warming is happening, and we should all go about our merry way, and now it's wholesale economic collapse due to a slowdown of products being carried by ships....., We are most definitely screwed.... And yes, something is coming....hopefully it's my newly restored turntable and another pair of Chorus II's this week.

  24. There is a lady in my town, she walks the highways and roads in the area picking up cans. I stopped and told her years back I have some cans you're welcome to. She told me no thanks she had plenty. She explained she was picking up trash to make the community look better and to get exercise. I don't know if mother nature appreciated it, but I did. I think some of us can recycle plastic ,help the old guy down the road shovel snow off his walkway and occasionally take in a critter, have it fixed and try to find a home for it. None of those will save humanity, but it makes me feel a little more humane.

  25. Mark, I put this on Scotch, Cigars & Tunes, but it is important that you don't forget to install one of these on the boat... LMFAO :emotion-21: :emotion-21: Great time to see something like this, knowing the Boat would be rewired last month, and really being done, i still told this one special farmer, he can have his fishin boat in April. Really just messin with him, he has four boats. However knowing this Dam thing is pretty much done last month, i started thinking, give him something NO ONE has. Hell iv got a couple months to s-rew up and start over if needed, so the project begins An Ejection seat is a piece of cake, i even have the supplys, however, doing what i do, i must think "Liability", and i would never want anyone to get hurt, because this farmer would fire the seat in the barn with wife doing the flying. he's a nut. I let My Bud know from the Get Go, if he wishs me to preform work on his watercraft, he knows me, and should know well by now, i sign my work told him i was going to give him a button of last resort, (bad fishin day or out of Beer). I will be making my FIRST youtube video of this performance, i see no other way to establish the Full Effect. Sitting here drinking and ranting is waay to easy, iv got a shop to clean and neighbors to pizz off

  26. First it was global cooling, then it was global warming, now, both bases are covered by calling it climate change. I'm a skeptic by nature. This goes for many topics. I am on the left and right on different issues. I am a free thinker. When those who have most to gain from the climate change industry lead by example decreasing their own footprint below mine. Then I will sense the urgency and become less skeptical. I see many believers who swear that climate change is a fact. Who belittle those that deny it. However, none of these people live the lifestyle they preach. They all use fossil fuel every day. They all contribute to Earth's so called demise. It's time to sacrifice. Completely. Its not enough to recycle. I recycle. Those that do will be taken seriously. As they should.

  27. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I've got a good PR department though. Looks like low 70's coming up every day this week. 30's again next weekend. Of course everyone at work is sick. At a standstill with my latest build in the garage till I can get my son and a couple friends over to help me move it and stand it up. Definitely can't be done with 2 people safely. Ran out of Kona this morning so my wife picked up some Melitta. It's OK but I can tell I'm spoiled. So much for miscellaneous rambling thoughts. You guys have a good rest of the week end. You know you have achieved part of your childhood dreams when your projects become to big to handle by yourself. Reminds me of my current Stack of speakers, the ONLY time in my life i went to the neighbors and thank god he brought a friend! Stacks are somewhere at the 505Lb each. In LA they loaded my truck with a forklift so i really had no idea how much they weighed till i unloaded.

  30. The catalyst for this thread is my desire to pass information to the 'family' that they may or may not be aware of. I've seen signs from others on this forum that they too have a wealth of information that may be important to the members in the coming months. I'll open the topic with a graph: http://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/images/user3303/imageroot/2015/02/20150209_bdiy.jpg For those of you not familiar with the BDI (Baltic Dry Index) it is, simply put, a data set from world wide shipping carriers for the demand of the largest ships in the world to move product (world trade). The data set is perhaps one of the few that is not available for skewing by politics. In other words, what you see is it and it is not 'messed with' for political expediency. The BDI is now at the lowest level in its entire history. EVER. Please note the dip right at the economic collapse back in 2008. Now please see that it is even lower than that level now. World wide demand for shipping to move product around the world is collapsing. Meaning people/companies are not consuming. Meaning deflation. This would lend itself to some tough times shortly ahead. And I for one just want to begin to prepare anyone who might be willing to listen to get ready. For certainly, something is coming.

  35. Gas is cheap because OPEC purposely kept the production up to take the price of oil down to about 40 dollars to put all of the USA shale guys out of business. Saudis can make money pumping oil at 30 dollars whereas the US shale guys need 50 to 70 dollars. They are having remarkable success in closing down the US oil industry. Let's see, QE3 or a depression? I pick QE3. JJK

  38. The very first post is a slanted partisan political view, with a link to a slanted partisan source. The linked article was in response to recent reports from reputable climate scientists that 2014 was the hottest on record. Christopher Booker, the author of the linked article, has a long track record of promoting ideas that run counter to the scientific consensus. He's a partisan hack, and his article is just pandering to the misinformed. Is that the sort of open discussion you want to promote? As I said, the whole thread is an ad hominem, inherently political, and not really appropriate in an audio forum. Here is what I think, since I am the OP. There are without a doubt 'partisan hacks' that promote their agendas on both sides. Some of those sources you like, I'm sure. But just because you aren't friendly with the source doesn't mean you get to lock a thread. That'd be for purely personal reasons. I'm sure you could post an article from one of your favorite news sources to rebut the one I linked? I'm sure you could also link some scientific data from a university? And I'm sure I could pull some numbers about how much the government funds those scientific studies. So you see....it's all subject to controversy and just because you don't like the source doesn't mean you get to shut down the world. Unfortunately you happened to pick a hack who is also known as quack over there. He is a journalist, not a scientist. In addition to being a global warming skeptic he also argues that "asbestos, passive smoking and BSE have not been shown to be dangerous. His views on these matters go against scientific consensus, and as a result have attracted much criticism from other journalists as well as public bodies. Thus his articles on asbestos and on global warming have been repeatedly challenged by George Monbiot of The Guardian and the UK Health and Safety Executive has repeatedly refuted his claims about asbestos." Booker has repeatedly claimed that white asbestos is "chemically identical to talcum powder" and poses a "non-existent" risk to human health. He also believes in intelligent design and that evolution is a hoax. I went to one of the sites someone linked, Global Warming lies .com, and it was filled up it with a lot of "facts", with no back up to support the "facts", but it said go to any of the links below for the "full story" and I saw that one is NASA. NASA no longer has to tone down, edit or have their scientific findings watered down like they did in a previous administration, so I went there. What I expected to find was there, that there are cyclical patterns to to warming and cooling, and "global warming" is the study of determining whether we are at, below, or above average for any point in a cycle, whether we are in a cooling or a heating period. There is a 90% consensus in mainstream science, both private, academic and public, that we are above where we should be, and that it is manmade. It is not just in the air, it significantly affects ocean water temperature. So not only do we get more intense El ninos, we are seeing measured increase in ocean temperatures that are up. A simple search for "corral loss" will get you to scholarly mainstream sites. CO2, the byproduct of greenhouse emissions, goes into the air, and more than a third of that ends up in the ocean. It is part of the carbon cycle that we all learned about. The elevated amounts from fossil fuels has caused the cycle to go out of balance, increasing the acidity of the oceans, which also results in lowered the amount of calcium carbonate that is necessary of the ocean lifecycle. The acidity of the oceans has increased (lowered pH) by 30% from the beginning of the use of fossil fuels. The acidity of the ocean will continue to rise, as a million pounds a day are currently being absorbed by the oceans from CO2 emissions. This is independent of the "warming" debate. There is no question that it is increasing, that it continues to increase, and that it is a result of the burning of fossil fuels. What is being sorted out now is what the effect will be on the fisheries, etc. This is happening now, not maybe in 30 years, but now. I mean if there is a global warming skeptic, that has science behind him, I am most haapy to look at what he's got. Travis Edited.

  39. I thought that was the AA (audio-holics anonymous) prayer? +++ I'll go on the record and say I am not a man-made global warming skeptic, I just don't believe in it. +++ I have noticed every summer it gets hotter. Global warming! And every winter, I've also noticed it gets colder; global cooling! I'm glad I could settle this for both sides. Any questions?

  43. Could not agree more. There are facts out there, but in general it's just one side bullying the other for not seeing things the same way. The best practice IMO is to remain indifferent. However, as some others have said - that does not mean you shouldn't try and be green. It doesn't mean having a gas guzzling Hummer when you just drive to and from work everyday at a retail store is okay. But be sensible in what you use and how you use it.

  46. Well, since it seems we're being civil: Speaking as someone who frequently works with the NWS, the SPC, NSSL, and other national weather agencies - as well as an enthusiast, and former Meteorological student... The fact is...data is insufficient in every camp. There's no more proof of global warming, as there is cooling, or otherwise. However, speaking also as someone who has done archeological surveys and geographical analysis - I can say that the Earth has been much warmer before. Speaking as a history student I can also add that the Earth has historically gone through warming and cooling cycles due to planetary wobble. This is the reason there is evidence of rain forests in the Savannah for example. We only have 150 years worth of data to go off of to assess the "modern era" - and factually, we only have about 70 years of global data - 40 if you only want to count the METAR analysis as well. That's hardly enough to establish a trend. Interesting fact btw: While it was reported the Earth was warmer this year, ambient analysis - which takes into account atmospheric temperatures in between weather stations, as well as sea surface and continental surface temperatures - was from -6.8 to -0.4 C cooler than normal. Another interesting fact: Solar temperatures have increased by ~0.09 C every year since measurements began.

  47. Irrespective of one's opinion about global warming, IMO, the real problem is population. The space and resources of the Earth are finite. Population growth is not. As long as population grows exponentially, there will be problems. The power of a geometric progression with a factor of 2 is undeniable. It is a good bar bet to ask someone to give you $0.01 today, double it the next day to $0.02, double the next day to $0.04, and so forth for 30 days. You will get over $1,000,000 by the end of the month as the daily payment. That is in addition to the accumulated prior daily payments. Population growth is occurring at an equally alarming rate. Fusion will delay the energy crisis, but not the population crisis. Our economy is tied to growth. Growth cannot continue.

  48. Wow slept in tell 830, then started breakfast. Step dad came over for breakfast nice long Vista. Kids will be off to a bday party for a couple of hours, so the wife and I will venture out for some window shopping. However I don't think I can convince her for pub stops such as Mark does. Worked on installing my dust collection system, last night. It's all wired up and filter bag hung, will have to wait a couple of weeks for more funds to run the duct work. Gary I forgot to take photos of the wonderful breakfast we had. Your photos are the definition for R&R. I always wondered how cozy it would be. To be snowed in on the English county side. With coffee and beautiful Klipsch heritage speakers, playing my favorite vinyl on a gorgeous tube receiver.

  49. Dang, changed my mind. Popped a top...music is just too good to turn off. What a hoot. Semi retired at a tender age. Need to take a hike. 35 here now. Brisk! Have worked some in it. Kansas City Kansas was a really friendly place when travelled there in my youth-er. First step onto ground convinced me the Chuka boots may not have enough sole to ride the slippin slidin. May be crazy but, could dig spending a winter in a place cold as Maine, Minnesota. Cold weather in North Florida when younger created some memories which weather would most likely trigger. 20 above should trigger the event. Radio was talking about Deja Vu, not the album. Haven't had one lately...that I recall...lol
