  1. Morning gang. Hope no one out there is in the market today.....looks like another 600 to the down side on open. LF and I took Jake to a nature trail at a historic plantation yesterday. In about a half mile Jake was worn out. He took a dip in the pond but needed 5 or 6 rest stops to make it back to the car. I noticed he was walking different and suspect his hips may be weak. He rested all afternoon and night and seems okay this morning, LF and I are ready to do the Atkins Diet starting this morning....been reading "Atkins Essentials" to get fired up. Glad everyone survived the weekend.....now get those chidren to school. Cheers Ladies and Gents

  3. Chuck...may the pounds go down and the stock go up. I put on some weight and noticed the old health issues returning---stomach problems, asthma flareups more frequent, overall feeling like crap. Time to increase my activity and stop sampling every potato chip that comes on the market. I've got to lose it all today, as I don't want Ann & Nancy Wilson to be disappointed tomorrow.

Its Humid as hell out First day of school school tells wife be at bus stop at 6:50, wife is there at 6:40, no bus shows, call school nothing but excuses say driver was there early because she had fewer students, all kinds of discussion bus driver returns and says need to be at the stop at 6:30 because this is one of her first stops Gotta love communication the school has no idea what the driver is doing.......................................

  8. Happy Monday gang. Better half is taking a well deserved day off and we're taking a drive up to Mt Evans, a few miles outside of Denver metro. Should be good weather and minimal traffic with the weekend over. Evans is one of a few 14'ers you can access by car rather than climbing - which I do NOT do. Hope the market comes back soon for all who are still in it. I got out years ago and glad I did. So called 'global economy' stuff is too scary for me. Have a good day all and, of course, cheers.

  11. Hello and good Monday morning/afternoon everyone...... :emotion-44: Trying to remember all the activities I just read through....... MKP, so sorry about that damn transmission job!, too funny that you returned to the original and it was just fine... Sometimes it goes just like that, what is it?, ain't broke, don't fix it? Glad it all worked out in the end... Chuck, good luck with the Atkins.... But, I hope you and all others on here are watching their cholesterol numbers, with all the icecreams, and other saturated fats being consumed. Yeah, it all tastes good and thats great, but moderation for sure. I don't have a problem, but I believe in watching my numbers BEFORE the doc tells me to... At my age, I am feeling lucky to be on ZERO meds of any kind... Steve, watch those daily doses of fries, that can catch up with you in other ways.... Ok, off my lecture stand We are back from N.C. JUST finished brunch, new ceramic coated pans are a DREAM to work with the eggs which was the primary idea on purchasing them. Dad bought them and wanted me to try a dinner with them and I fell in love... So, added to all our fine stainless ware (Cuisinart and Le Creuset) there is something to do omelets in with no sticking, as they proved themselves this morning Trip home ended up running 14 hours! HA, on a Sunday no less, TONS of weekend traffic, many motor homes and 18 wheelers, got tied up for 45 minutes in one construction area in PA. That is what happens when you have 3 lanes going down to ONE! It wasn't even an active zone!! But, still loading things from the SUV, organizing, and now picking up the kitchen and the table out on the deck at this late hour. NEWS......my little DAC came in! This will take the HDMI audio from the streaming/mp3 audio off the laptop and put that into the preamp in the vintage system. SHOULD sound better then the headphone OP Amp (I hope....). Will try that later tonight... Also, my new LP re-issue should be waiting by the mail box... Can't wait to play that this weekend, unveiled on RTM... Chuck, did you catch my invite for you to join us sometime for a spin of the reel to reels over on RTM ? Do you have any pre-records ? Ok, this is getting long winded..... Enjoy the day everyone. I certainly am enjoying my little vaca. one more day of retirement to go before returning to the grind on Wed. .......Gary

  12. Big turn around in the market.....wouldn't rule out an afternoon sell off. On the plus side Google went down to 593 earlier today so the small chunk I sold two weeks ago when it hit $700 made me a nice $103/share (I bought back at 597) Atkins menu so far today. Bacon and eggs for breakfast. Tomato, cucumber with tzatziki sauce, and a boiled egg for lunch. Dinner will be bay scallops wrapped in bacon and a salad. Got the produce and scallops at a farmers market at Wrightsville Beach.....Costco for organic ground beef, coffee, tzatziki, and frozen mahi. Bought gas at Costco for $2.28.

  14. Morning gang.. 1st cup going down nice. Dunkin Donuts whole bean....as always. My daughter makes the coffee for me and the wife every morning. Mark...have fun at the swapmeet, get your self a corndog and buy something ya don't need.... JL.... watch out for the storms... billybob..... yea it does come with the territory..... most of the time it works out good using "used" parts....but this time I pulled the short straw. Years ago I stopped doing engine replacements and engine builds. It just takes so much time to do it right. When you replace the engine you should prep the replacement to insure that there is no problems when it goes in. Like new timing belt, water pump, thermostat, clutch, adjust valves, ect ect. Also replace any suspect hoses or if the radiator is original and it's 10-12+ years old why put the old one back in. So my estimate would be higher than anybody's. People would say your nuts...I can get that done for half the price!! People are so fixed on price, and I understand that. I try to tell them your replacing the engine to keep the car. This is part of the job...to keep the car on the road... Some understand....but most took the car out the shop. A few times they have come back after they got that "cheaper" price. They got problems... clutch slipping, water pump leaking, oil leaks....or the best one was a broken timing belt...cuz the cheaper shop didn't replace the belt on the used engine. I told the guy...now ya need another engine....lol lol It got to the point, that if you wanted an estimate for a engine replacement, I would throw out there..... if your not looking at spending around 4 grand....then I'm not your shop. Also on the flip side of the coin, if you want to spend the money I would insist on a complete inspection of the car: brakes, suspension, exhaust and body/frame rust. If the car needed all kinds of other work I tell people to junk it. It's not worth it!! Well off to get a 2nd cup...I'll check in later.. MKP :-)

  19. I see. This is my take, and I would be willing to wager I am right: The landowner, by law, cannot deny the accommodations in issue. The accommodations need only comply with the code and be permitted, it a permit is required for such types of things. Therefore, no provision in a lease can alter this rule. Therefore, you cannot be held in breach of your lease for constructing accommodations which the law says the landlord cannot prohibit. This is my take. Proceed at your own risk or get additional opinions if you want.

  21. Dang Mark, you are good. The blatantly upfront and honest with the customer. Guess there are points when the input repair needed outweighs any benefit that can be gained by continuing to try to revive. More later when I have some coffee and lose a little of that jetlag I have driving for work on weekends. Next time I am out shopping, I will get some Dunkin Donut coffee. It is nice and tasty. 460 miles so far on my latest Volvo addition and so far, it hasn't tried to buck me out of the saddle.

Based off of my experience with Marantz and Denon products, my vote would continue to be for the Yamaha Aventage receiver that scrappy quoted you above. First, your X2100 you quote can be had for $330: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrx2100w/denon-avr-x2100w-7.2-receiver-wi-fi/bluetooth/airplay/1.html The A730 can be had for $300: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamrxa730bl/yamaha-rx-a730-7.2-network-aventage-av-receiver-airplay/1.html The Denon X3000 for $350: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrx3000/denon-avr-x3000-7.2-4k-networking-receiver-airplay/1.html And the Yamaha A740 for $400: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamrxa740bl/yamaha-rx-a740-7.2-network-aventage-av-receiver-w/wi-fi-airplay/1.html

  30. Hands down spend more on speakers!!! They can last a lifetime. Receiver will be outdated in two years. Period. Skip the best buy speakers and get into reference premiere stuff or used stuff. List your location. There are lots of guys on here who can help you score some great deals used. Just cause you got that sweet discount through your work or wherever doesn't always mean to use it. Some INSANE deals can be found used. And a lower model receiver can get you by for a while while better speakers are gathered up to compete your dream theater. Trust me, we all have spent WAY too much money buying over and over again when we would have saved had we just got what we wanted from the get go. What is the setup YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE???

  33. so at work this lady tells me that her friend got hearing aids. I said, “i’m sorry. Do you get hearing aids from oral sex? She laughed; but, another lady approached me and said that my joke offended her. I apologized and said, “Maybe i should save that one for a more intellectual crowd." She said “yes, that would be a good idea." I felt like telling her, “NOW, i said something offensive to you"; but, didn’t want to risk her reporting me to HR.” Me & HR aren’t on good terms.

  35. Let's break it down. If a provision allows a landlord discretion to give approval, then, it is permissive. Usually, there is some kind of standard associated with it, such as: Landlord's discretion shall be absolute. Landlord's permission shall not be unreasonably withheld. Landlord shall exercise its discretion in good faith. Things like that. In each of those cases, there is discretion. That's why you have to ask. Here, on the other hand, there is no discretion. Right? The landlord cannot deny. That's what the law says. If the landlord does not have discretion, then, there is no reason to seek permission. LL: Your Honor, Tenant breached the lease by failing to get my permission to build the ramp. Tenant: His permission was not needed. The law says he cannot prohibit me from building the ramp. Judge: LL, do you agree that's what the law says? LL: It does. Judge: Then, what's the point of getting your permission? What would it change? You'd have to give it, wouldn't you?

  40. Evening gang.... Just got in from dinner...me and the wife went to a local place.... I got crab cakes and she got some seafood dish, shrimp. fish, scallops and a little crab cake....This was the 1st time going there...it was "ok" not the worst...not the best.. Soooo here's a update on the old Honda van that I'm getting my daughter into. If you guys remember I got a replacement trans/eng for it. Put it all in and the trans was no good. Well last week they sent me out another trans. I got it off the the truck, found a broken solenoid on it...no biggie...swapped it, didn't see any other external issues. We stayed late last night so I could put the replacement trans in. We got the van in the shop. I dropped out the front cross member and prepped the van for it's new/used trans. I got the replacement trans over to the van and started to get that ready to go in. The trans had the starter attached to it, so I pulled that off...I just makes it easier...when the starter came off, what do I see... the trans has a big F#@&*+! crack in the case!! WTF....this is not happening to me.... I was ready to really loose it. I had to walk out side the shop to gather my thoughts.......what am I going to do???? Let me tell ya...I got the old/original trans I took out...the one with 204000 miles on it and put that back in the van!! That trans shifted and worked fine. The only reason I did all this was...cuz the old eng used oil...alot of oil... and I figured the easy way out was a used eng..and while I'm at it, I should put a lower mileage trans in it. So that's why I went for the eng/trans package. I stayed at the shop til 1:00 Friday night. Got 90% of it done. I went in this afternoon a got it all finished up. Took it out on the test drive....ahhhh shifts soooo fine, works soooo smooth. I'm just glad this cluster "F" is over. My wife and I were talking and she said " could you imagine if this had been a customers vehicle".... And that is why I rarely do used engine or transmission replacements. I will take the van to state inspection next week....it should be down hill from here... OK gang I'll catch you guys in the A.M. with some coffee...good night all MKP :-)

  41. New will be considerably more pricey. A lot of good can be had out of used gear. The majority of the system I'm using was built by used gear. In fact, the only two pieces of the audio set that I bought new or refurbed was my UPA-2 and my RF-3 II towers. My whole living room system is second hand, the whole master bedroom is second hand. Trust me, search used...you can get even more bang for your buck.

  42. Welcome to the forum. If you're looking for a receiver, Denon has a limited time offer on the AVR X4100W. Normal street price is $1499, current deal is $799. ** 125w x 7-channels ** Audyssey MultEQ® XT32 with Sub EQ HT ** Dolby Atmos Sounds like you have a discount via work, they should have the same offer available, but also check accessories4less for additional options.

  43. I haven't heard a current dumping amplifier, and as I read about it - it is essentially a small class A driving a big class B cascaded stage. Other sources state that it is an "ingenious implementation of a class C" (less than 180 degree phase operation) amplifier. Whatever the definition, it looks to be a "the mother of invention is necessity" design for Quad electrostatics that have about 1 ohm impedance at 20 kHz - like all true electrostat radiators, and that require an amplifier of great current capability to drive them. It would be interesting to hear a Quad 405 connected to a Klipsch speaker. As I read about the Quad 405 amplifier, it has a damping factor of 200 (i.e., 0.04 ohm output impedance), so it should behave very well indeed without any EQ needed to correct its FR due to driver/crossover loading. Chris

  44. The tweeters in the KLF 30s are reasonably robust. They are used in many other Klipsch speakers with similar network topography. I would be looking at what was done on the crossover upgrade or at the upstream components unless you are listening in a very large room at very loud levels.

  45. Why must mom (or you or any occupant, for that matter) have to be disabled? The law you posted states: "The ownership or management shall not prohibit a homeowner or resident from installing accommodations for the disabled on the home or the site, lot, or space on which the mobilehome is located..." I did not see anything which said that this law applies only to residences with an occupant who is disabled. For example, what if my disabled friend likes to come visit? Does this law say I can build a ramp so he can get in? You didn't post anything that said I could not. However, it is possible that some other provision you did not cite requires an occupant to have a disability requiring the accommodation.

  46. Always better to ask forgiveness than permission. Build the ramp, deduct the cost from next rent payment. You would be surprised how difficult it is to evict renters when they do something like that. If the owner shows up at the property to complain, call the police and have him removed. Legally it is your residence. You can shoot him via the castle defense if he enters without your permission.
