  2. Evening guys.... Hope everyone had a great Labor Day...... Carl my man that looks awsome......yes I think your are right.....that's some contractor work for sure. We just had our main bathroom done, it's not a big bathroom....but all new tile, new floor, new sink and cabinet and fixtures. We re-used the toilet and tub they were in good shape. But that cost us a good bit. It dug into my side-job money.....damn house..... Like I have said "I don't do house" ...... me use a paint brush or roller.....I'm not qualified......now I have replaced a light bulb......once.....and yes I did hang a picture.....once...... I tell ya I just don't like it..... So we didn't do a lot this weekend......today me and the wife drove to Lancaster P.A. today. It was a nice drive. I found a hood and a ECU for my Suzuki Samurai's. I've been sharing one ECU for two trucks, so now I don't have to unplug and swap it out....the hood is for a truck I'm getting ready to sell.....should bring some good money when it's done. On the dive back home we stopped into a good steak house that we go to in York P.A. ...... So yea it was a good day.... OK....I'll check in tomorrow.......back to work.... MKP :-)

  4. Two cups and time to get Tuesday going. The weather here will suck for the next few days, i will NOT be coating the MCMs in this kind of weather. 70 in the cave w/fans, will close it up in an hour, Cave will get no more than 80 by 7Pm tonight, insulated like a 711 Reffer unit. Glad i spent the extra dough when building the Cave. will NOT do A/C in here, this house is not a keeper.

  6. Morning gang, working on the first cup and breakfast burrito. Sounds like the bathroom is coming along Carl, sounds like everyone had a good weekend. I ended up going camping with the kids Saturday night, while the wife stayed back to do some quilting. She joined Sunday night, when we had dinner for some of my dad's side of the family, nothing special just smoked brats and smoked hamburgers. Yesterday, we went to my mom's where I grilled some t-bones, yup they were good. Well time to get back after it and remember not to wear white for the rest of the year.

  10. The price would be shocking. It's looking good, looks really big for a bathroom from 1975.

  11. They are just guessing, it will say 20% chance of rain, clouds build up and rain covers most everywhere within 50 miles, they change it to 90% an hour later. I think they sit by a window and watch and make a guess.

  12. An arm and half a leg. Dang Carl that is looking really good. And a contractor would probably not be as meticulous. I'm so anal I would paint behind the cabinets.

  18. morning all Had a fantastic weekend...lots of people in St. Augustine this weekend...and probably the best firework show I've seen outside of NYC NYE. Score of the weekend (I think)..... Ran to TJ Maxx with the wife on Saturday. I usually find myself browsing through the kitchenware and t-shirts. I found myself looking at the kiosk of earbuds and noticed what appeared to be a very nice box at the bottom covered with other stuff. I dug it out and found that it was a set of TDK ST800 headphones. The build quality is really nice on these and they have a nice little in-line EQ/amp that runs on 2 AAA batteries. I'm looking them over and grab my phone and look them up and find that they originally had a MSRP of $300. I turn the box over and the price tag said $29.99 Wife looked at me like I had seven heads when I tossed them into the cart. Got them home and ran them on my laptop for 24 hours to burn them in. Listened to them for a good 4 hours last night.....I think they sound outstanding....and for $30....I'm super happy.

  20. Very good Carl........... Tuning? Well, there are a number of different adjustments on this pipes, too long to explain here, as pictures with the tools in hand would be much better to show just how it is done... I know there are some youTube vids that actually show what goes on inside the organ chamber during the tuning process. This would allow you to not only SEE, but HEAR the effect of pitch matching with the 'tuning' stop in the division OR, section of the organ... ...........ok, more practicing here.... :emotion-29:

  21. After about 13 years of wandering in the audio wilderness, I have recently returned to the Klipsch brand. Much has changed in the 13 years, including equipment and where I live. While my room would be appropriately called a home theater, the fact is I do not watch movies, using the home theater mostly for sports watching. In this room I listen to music far more than watch TV, and do that in 2 channel. Hence my posting in this forum. Hopefully, I have attached a photo of the view from my listening seat, showing my new Heresy III's and the JBL subs that I had already owned.. Rear surrounds are a new pair of RP-240S. It is very good to be back.

  22. ok first question. is the denon x4100 gonna be able to be upgraded to dts:x? doesn't seem like it. if i want both options a 4200 will have to be it? ok on to the speakers? id like to either get the kpt-8000 or the kpt-8060. one has a 90x90 horn and the other a 90x60. not sure if one would be better than the other? since this is object based and normally recommend in ceiling id assume either of these would be better. i could also get something like the cp-6t or similar if aiming them at my LP would be better. but everywhere I've read says that is bad. but those would for sure be easiest to mount on my ceiling. so bring it on nismo! fill me in. I'm thinking hard about making the switch even though i said i would wait.

  23. My wife said this was a good DIY project. I told her hanging a picture or painting a wall was a good DIY project. This is like contractor work. I can't imagine how much someone would have charged me to do all this.

  30. Good evening coffee people...... Sorry Mark, this worker bee has Columbus Day off, THEN Thanksgiving ... We broke a record with OUR heat and humidity today.........95 degrees and very juicy out there, nice 74 in the house per usual, we don't suffer inside for an instant.........got central, and we use it Goes on in May, and STAYS on until early Nov. as we still get some warm days during late fall... Don't care for the dust and pollen in the house either, especially in the spring... Well, that is what suits us, I know it is not for everybody, but why suffer when I can afford not to ? Duder, sound like you and family are having a great time Ok, back to cooking.........dinner time here in the east.. ..............g

  32. Everything is a compromise I guess. If you have the room and wattage for multiple, sealed 18" subs I can't really imagine anything significantly better than that. Really, there are just way too many variables to say anything definitive about anything. For one thing, two people would have to agree on what "good" is to begin with and with certain individuals that may very well be impossible on its own. Fortunately this is just a hobby for most and experimentation is part of the fun. The key is finding what works best for your ears, in your room, which will almost certainly be different from the next guys requirements / tastes.

  35. Could I make a suggestion? Take a close look at what ALL of the materials are going to cost you, cabinet, drivers, wires, screws, everything. Compare to what a used pair of Cornwalls would cost you, even some that might a little refinishing work....I'd venture to say that the amounts would be quite close. Or, build your own cabinets, and buy used genuine Klipsch drivers and other components. Again, might be a wash.

  43. OK, my wife is after me to take a break from the bathroom and have a little bit of a weekend. It's hard for me to stop, I don't relax well when there's work to do and there's is a ton left. Here's where I just left off. The rock is up in the shower and the cabinet bases are in. I still need to float all the screw heads and seams before I start with the tile. The cabinets and doors are getting primer. The interiors will be urethane on raw wood and the exterior will be white. All doors and facing has been removed for paint work and will be reinstalled once finished.

  44. No plans for today, although I wish I had planned to do what JL is doing, that looks good. Have a couple of pork butts in the freezer, I love the taste but not so much the long hours of cooking them. Have a good Labor Day.

  45. Happy Labor Day guys. Good weekend so far. Spent Saturday a few miles south in Coorado Springs and walked through Garden of the Gods. Had forgotten how amazing that is. Met up with friends afterwards. Laid back on Sunday and did some BBQ chicken thighs on the grill. I usually smoke chicken with pecan wood, but decided to grill it on direct heat. Forgot how good that can be with a little BBQ sauce if not overcooked. Quicker than smoking too, although that's my first love. Enjoy the day!!

  46. Happy holiday C&C buds. Hope everyone is having a good day. I went to Win 10 and back to 8.1 as I was having trouble with a few things. Couldn't even locate my stored photos Then again with computers I'm far from the sharpest spoon in the drawer Started on a bike ride but it began raining before I got to the end of my road. So I returned home and started making shrimp salad from the leftover shrimp from Saturday nights shrimperoo. The LF and I made Barefoot Contessa's shrimp bisque last night. Bien! Also made a spinach pie topped with sweet onion, tomato, and a dash of paprika. So dinner was bisque and spinach pie. Clearing now so may get the bike ride in. Cheers Ladies and Gents

  47. Good morning all. Got a new laptop yesterday. It is a Toshiba Satellite: AMD A8 with a 1T drive. It came with Windows 8.1 but I did the upgrade to 10 during setup. So far so good. Just have to get up to speed with the new OS. Ya'll have a great holiday.

  49. I like the quote by Rutherford, but unfortunately, in most complicated situations where blind trials are used (such as experimental drugs) the statistics are required. Any time someone says that product "X" sounds different and better, I think about "how did they arrive at that conclusion?". Most of the time, the answer isn't one that you'd like to hear. I myself took a test of repeated A-B listening between a tube-type preamplifier of high esteem and a lowly SS preamp. To me, I could hear a small but repeatable difference (and the results of the test proved that my assumption of which preamp was which was correct). I was listening for something that I'd call "slew rate" differences - clean and natural transients on percussion transients, and it was clearly audible to my ears. I was amazed that most other people in the room had trouble hearing the difference, since I really don't consider myself to have "golden ears". Then I thought about something that is very troubling: What if most people that consider themselves audiophiles have accommodated to the sound of stereos? The answer to that question is very troubling for this pastime and doing these kind of ABX tests--the only type of tests that you can do and then defend the results. In the case of digital cables, I'd be laughing as I entered the venue to eat up the hors d'oeuvres. It's a clear waste of time. Pay attention to the stuff that really matters. I always start with the loudspeakers, room and source music. Then I start looking at the participants, and if it is a bunch of "experts" my expectations on the outcome of the trial are severely reduced. I do have to disclose that my music listening background includes live music performance of the acoustic variety - from classical and modern serious music genres, from a very young age (less than 2 years old) listening for an hour to two hours twice per week when young, then every weekday for several hours/day after age 13 until age 21. Only in the evenings did I listen to our home stereo, and then it was a far cry from what I'd call "audiophile quality" by today's standards, although it was a lot better quality than a table radio or console stereo, etc. I always knew that stereos never sounded anything like live music performance and never questioned which was which. In other words, my sound quality paradigm was based on the real thing - unamplified. But the guy that brought the tube preamp was very disappointed that he couldn't hear more difference, and then later sold that preamp (IIRC). It was generally decided among the participants that something downstream of the preamp was blocking the fidelity from being heard (implying the active crossover or the amplifier). Perhaps. There are audible differences in active digital crossovers and amplifiers--I've heard them myself and have swapped out components to arrive at something that is sometimes breathtaking, IMHO, depending on the source sound files. So it is with audiophiles: all these tests show that there are people that are probably listening for things that aren't in the original performance, and aren't hearing things that really are. They've trained their ears to hear things that musicians feel are artificial, and fail to hear the things that musicians can clearly hear, things that cause those musicians to rate the results as "artificial". What's interesting to me is the number of people that go with the opinions of non-musicians instead. I'd never do that. I recently read an audiophile article implying that the people that consider "lowly Khorns" as the best loudspeakers that they've heard -- are typically (acoustic) musicians...wind players, string players, percussionists (classical), classical singers, etc. I've learned that betting on the jockeys instead of the horses is critical. The problem is, you've got to qualify the jockeys somehow... Trained musicians (non-amplified instrumentation, that is) is one way to do it. YMMV. There are ABX tests using all "golden ears": they're not that rare as it turns out. Oftentimes the ABX tests fail to prove any difference between components or music formats. This isn't rare, either--it seems that these type of "audiophiles" like to look for differences in strange places (like digital cables), but then again don't look in the obvious places - like the source music, the loudspeakers used, and the room acoustics-areas with the largest differences. Why worry about how pretty the cups on the tables were while the Titanic's basic design couldn't steer, couldn't slow down very easily, the lookouts couldn't see icebergs at night, and the ship had a fatal hull structural quality issue? I see a lot of this in audiophilia. It's like these golden ears folks are changing their listening scores based on what they see and how they accommodate based on those audible differences (which they shouldn't). I see questionable decisionmaking by golden ears guys all the time.. This is a problem that won't go away. ABX testing won't fix that problem, unfortunately, but it should. Chris
