  1. I can't believe I am posting here... but this is all an accident.... I just bought a pair of Forte II by mistake. And I didn't even know there was a company called "Klipsch" till a few days before I bought them. ( Still don't know how to say it) Oh man… after years of not listening to music on a decent stereo I am enjoying music at level I didn’t know was possible: spine tingling, gut warming, waves of warm colored sound blanketing me. So for the last 14 years the best audio I had was some sound bar with 3in speakers and a sub. I was becoming so frustrated with tiny sound. So I decided to try and match the mid-fi (lo fi?) High School system I had from 1976-2001 (KLH 3 way with speakers about 2ft high with a Harmon Kardon 50w per channel I think) I went to Best Buy, I felt too cheap to drop over $600 on tower speakers and the cheaper ones sucked. So I got some decent bookshelf speakers. Klipsch M15 they were good. They sounded clear and I heard elements I hadn’t heard. But I wanted something I could FEEL like I remember with my old floor standing speakers. So I looked on Craigslist. I saw a pair of big speakers that in the picture looked about the same size as my 1970 KLHs. They were listed a Klipsch KG4 for $270. I looked them up and they seemed like okay speakers and the same size as my old High School KLHs. I went to the sellers house. The speakers seemed bigger than they should be. But they were comply pristine. Then I listen to them and I was listening for flaws and didn't really find any. I was going to listen for a while and analyse everything, but then I got chills down my spine (listening to Electrelane) which the expensive Best Buy speakers hadn't done. So I said SOLD! BUT when I got them home I realized something was WRONG! 67 lbs each! (I knew they seemed heavier than 45lbs) 35 tall by 16 wide by 12 deep... These aren't KG4s! After some research I found out they were these things called Forte IIs and these weird people called audiophiles seemed to think they were good. So here I am it's near 2:00 am and I am being enveloped in a whole warm colourful wall of dynamic alive multidimensional sound even at low volumes. I am sitting and listening to music for the first time in decades... but it's never been like this. Rehearing old music opening to new music. New categories of music, piano, sitar, even pop! OMG can't beleive I have been missing this. I didn't know what a sound stage was now I have one. It's a new world. Oh no am I an accidental Audiophile because of a in accurate Craigslist post? So what do you all think? Should I demand my money back?

  5. Great weather continues here. Yesterday's project was to pressure wash the patio furniture and brick patio. Well I almost finished but the pesky hose found its way onto the muffler and burned enough to give me a pressure assisted leak. Googled pressure washer hose repair and the verdict was no tape works due to the high pressure. You would think a hose clamp would do it. One guy tried JD Weld epoxy mixed with brillo pad fibers to patch the leak. Says that it worked. I called Generac and ordered a new hose (30') for $51.00 shipped. The drag is the 3-5 day wait. Most of you guys are reporting good weather.....so enjoy! Cheers Ladies and Gents

  12. well Chuck--i'm experiencing one of the drawbacks of not watching the news...walk out of the house this morning in a short sleeve shirt...it's generally warm around here...and it's pouring rain. And of course this is the day that the tire pressure monitor on my car comes on and tells me that i have a low tire....needless to say, i'm at work, i'm soaked, and it's chilly in here.

  18. Morning gang..... Getting ready for 2nd cup..... Ahhhhh yesssssss another nice cool day today... great working weather for sure. Will be finishing up a Jeep Liberty for the used car guys today. I did rear pads rotors and parking brake shoes.....talk about a pain in the a$$...... here on the East coast there's lots of rust to deal with and this Jeep was no exception.... If I had to work on Jeeps all the time I would do something else.... I'm spoiled with the Honda gig.... Chuck....alittle late....but ya might have been able to fix the hose with a "barb" fitting and hose clamps. I use them to fix air hoses at the shop.... OK gotta roll out.... a good day to all.. MKP :-)

  19. I cannot set the crossover for the sub on my receiver, would it be best to run the mains through the sub high level filter and also have a LFE cable in for movies?I'm not sure why anyone would recommend crossing a LaScala that high... but I can assure you (I own 3 pair) they reproduce content down into the 50Hz-60Hz range very well. I also wouldn't recommend using the sub's crossover network either. When you get them home, just hook them up to the 3801 directly, set them as "Large" in the speaker setup and put the subwoofer to "off" (don't even hook up the subwoofer for your initial listening). Then spend a few days (or weeks) just listening to the LaScalas (full range) by themselves to see what they are capable of in your room... It will give you a good reference point going forward. At that point plug your sub into the LFE on the 3801 and then experiment (every room and pair of ears are different) with setting the LaScalas to either "Small" or "Large". Though the early Denon (I have a 4800) AVR's have a fixed 80Hz crossover, you can also experiment with the "LFE" or "LFE + Main" setting (see page 20 of your owner's manual) to see what sounds best to you. But mostly just enjoy your LaScalas...

  25. Graham P, Welcome to the forum. What a bonus you got there. Man are you one fortunate guy. The forte' II are considered by many to be the most balanced Klipsch speakers ever produced. Great lows, sweet midrange, detailed highs. No, the seller should be demanding more $$$. What wood finish do they have? Oh, no photos, didn't happen. Bill

  30. You guys are nice... very funny... wondering where this will go... this is seriously all foreign to me. But I love music, technology, learning, building, experiencing new things so it's all good. Got the Crites upgrade on its way... tracking eagerly! Folks wanted picks... put them on my public profile? Is that good? I know it's lame compared to what you all had. But upgrading from a Boston Acoustics sound bar or sub $100 PC speakers to this is just blowing my mind. It's what 70 year old technology but I feel like I am on the Holideck of the Enterprise. Why didn't I know about this? More later... got to go to work! But I can't turn it off! Really! Arrgg!

  31. Lol ^^^^ that is was trying not to do for once. Bobby, there are much better speakers out there. But at a higher cost. If you are 100% happy with that center then please just get the matching bookshelves and surrounds and be happy with it for a while. When I signed up for this forum I had no idea it would lead me down the road I took. But I have spent sooooo much money on speakers and other gear. Don't get me wrong I enjoy it all. But sometimes wish I had kept my first set of reference gear and just been happy with it. I was for so long till I got on here and others started telling me how much better the higher end stuff was.

  32. Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the good luck. I think a lot of us on the forum would pass over a KG series ad, but there would be a lot more interest in the Forte II's. As you know, you found a pretty good deal, even if by accident! And Klipsch is pronounced like clip-sh

  33. Coffee pun Arrrr Arrrr Arrrrr. Welcome back to the work week all. Still working on the bathroom. Should have all the concrete board floated by this weekend and maybe start tiling it the weekend after next. I'm going to try and con my brother into coming down for a weekend. Together we can probably knock out 2/3 to 3/4 of it. I've taken in a boarder. My nephew is now here in town working for the ATF. He's also active military reserves and stays very busy with both vocations. Problem is that his wife is active military also and is in FL with his son and step sons. I don't know how they do it, breaks my heart to see them stationed so far apart. They've both tried for hardship transfers but so far no go. I hope they can get closer together some how but he's welcome in our home for as long as the need is there. He did a lot of swimming this weekend with our Rottie so now they're best buds. Bowling is doing well as I keep setting personal bests. I averaged 192 over 3 games yesterday. I wish I learned how to bowl correctly a long time ago. Joe, your oil pressure seems high at idle. Guess it's better than you blood pressure. Everyone have a great week!!!! Carl

  39. Congrats on the new setup. I'm not familiar enough with MCACC, but Audyssey (with my Denon) was a but tricky to recognize the upward firing modules. Another note; with Audyssey calibration it did funky things with crossover for the RP-140SA's.... Jay L recommends setting the RP-140SA at 150Hhz, so double check your crossover after set up. I'll be getting The Fifth Element & The Professional on 10/27. Since it's the first of Sony's 4K Supreme Cinema Series... I hope they have not started implementing HDCP 2.2 If you don't already have it... Run...do not walk... to go get MAD MAX. I've already watched it 3x in the past week. The Atmos track is phenomenal, the best Atmos release to date. Intense, non-stop, powerful, LFE, immersive experience.

  40. Which is a state and/or local system. The percentage of state money to local money varies from state to state. New Hampshire used to have highest percentage of local money. No Child Left Behind (NCLB) passed in 2001, it started the testing requirements. It was a reauthorization of the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Currently, right now, NCLB is in the process of being overhauled by Congress. Both Houses have passed different versions, the Senate in July by a vote of about 80 to 20 if I recall. It remains to be seen whether anything will come out of Conference. Every issue regarding education discussed in this thread is up for debate and will be impacted by that legislation, either by sweeping changes, or no action. Yet, it isn't discussed at all, or just in passing here. The time for parents to have the most input on federal involvement in public school education was this Spring and Summer, but there is still time left. I think that anyone who has a child in elementary, middle or high school should know at least what highlights are in the two versions and what they think is best for their situation. Travis

  41. Reminds me of the time I bought a Bose wave radio only to realize when when I got home it was really MWM. Boy was I pissed. $5 wasted! No way it would fit on the kitchen counter! Congratulations on a nice pair of speakers, we should all have bad luck like that.

  42. What a rocker! He was in a band called The Alliance before he got into R.E.O., and practiced at my house. There are differing opinions of him online, but he was always super nice when I knew him. His health went to pieces, but still sad to see him go. Bruce EDIT: In the photo, left to right: Roger Elem, Denny Probst, Gary Richrath, Barry Brenner. Got an email from Roger. He collects guitars and lives outside of Saratoga Springs NY, in the foothills of the Adirondack Mts.

  43. Okay, amp all plugged in. And ATMOS tuned. Setup took about and hour, but tuning took most of Sunday. NISMO, you were right, once you go ATMOS, holy crap, it really is another dimension. And the amp flawlessly powers the larger speakers without any trouble. The Elite SC-91 is having no trouble pushing the small ones and there is no overhead issue or reference distortion between the two amps. And darn!!!!!! ATMOS. I will be watching Gravity or Fifth Element ATMOS edition tonight. Not sure yet. I spent so much time tuning and then watching football yesterday I haven't had time for much else, but I did test on Expendibles 3 encoded ATMOS. Mmmmmmmm. I have a ton of pictures to take now that it is all setup.
