  1. Thanks Mark for the hospitality. We had a great time visiting the man cave and witnessing first hand how pissin off the neighbors is done. Now that we got the stacks home the real fun begins. I really appreciate all the time you spent detailing what you've done and learned while refurbishing yours. I'm sure I'll be asking you and others on the forum forum for assistance as I dive in to rebuilding mine.

  5. Morning all.....looooong weekend Got the majority of the furniture out of her grandma's house and into storage this weekend. She got a good deal of the stuff sorted and boxed up. Found a TON of old pictures, letters and stuff....was really cool. Called a friend down at Town Hall and he wants to get copies of most of the pictures since not many exist of the original spring fed city pool/park. I overdid it in the field yesterday and have tweaked my back....so to the doctor I go today. All in all I got about 450ft of welded wire field fence, 800ft of barbed wire and about 200ft of 16'x4' Feedlot Panels all down and stacked. Got the old feeding troughs drug out and an old shack torn down. All ready to be bush hogged this afternoon. Also going to go ahead and till up the area for my wife's garden. We're going to use the Feedlot Panels to run a fence across the front of the property with a 12ft gate at the driveway. The property is right off a busy county road...and this will give my wife a sense of ease about the dogs and kids playing in the yard. Back to the corporate grid for a while today...taking off at lunch for Dr. appointment and then to meet buddy at house to pay him for grooming the field/garden.

  8. Gary, the car is a SL550 and my daily driver. It does have the AMG performance package but it isn't an AMG; i.e. no super charger. Looks great in person, with a cool convertible roof and fancy customized curved license plate to perfectly match the cars shape.

  10. Well haven't been around much been busy, with Christy's brother and wife in town and the party last night. The party went great, everyone had fun and many said thanks for having it again this year and asked when can we do it again, I told them why not every 2-3 months, they liked the idea. About 40 people showed up and it was fun.

  20. Thanks for the explanation Luther..... MPK, what can I say, but, how sweet (0: Ok, just posted this over in RTM, thought I would share this moment with you all... After breaking out this new to me BluRay recording yesterday at Pezz' home and hearing it on his nicely tweeked system, I had to hear it here in Music Hall with the new KT-88's and room treatments, running the DB levels to peaks of 88 A weighting which is what we were hitting on the Rhode Island system.. This sounds damn good!! I picked up and brought in some nice New England fall colors (leaves) from our maple trees out back and added to the setting. Got my 'budget' cab in the Klipsch glass, good to go for the evening (0: Enjoy ;0)

  21. Checking in from a busy weekend, football, soccer you all know the drill. Gary and Luther, thanks for taking the time to post the pics of the wonderful music setups and the drinks. I my self enjoyed some fine whiskey along with some tunes this weekend. At 5:50 this evening it was still 90 degrees here in the Omaha area, which isn't normal for this time of the year, but things will change in the next coming week when our highs are only forecast to the low 60's. Mark, congrats on the sale, Joe, nice set of cans there, someday I wouldn't mind having a decent headphone setup. Chuck, don't sweet the colonoscopy, just get it done and over. I could only imagine what you go through every year around this time, remember where you have good friends when you need someone to talk to. For the rest of you keep on doing what you do to make this forum a wonderful place. Peace. Dave, that looks alot like pecan pie, I know its not, but man do I love some good pecan pie.

  36. I recently refurbished a pair of La Scala Industrial Splits. There's a thread about all that In the technical/modifications section. Today my wife decided to listen to the result of my labors. She loved hearing the Stones, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, and whatever else I could come up with as long as it was loud. Said it was the best set of speakers we've ever owned. I was shocked. She's really never shown much interest in my music hobby. And I've known her since 1975. She even thought my stories about PWK were interesting. What's up with that? Mark

  40. A rock group is to old to go see when: 1 Extra handicapped parking spaces have been added to the parking lot. 2 No one tries to sell you a joint but, offer to sell you VIagra. 3 Mixed drinks come with a spoon of Benefiber/Metamucil. 4 The concert starts at noon so that you can get home in time to see Wheel Of Fortune. 5 Tony Bennet gives a guess appearance. 6 The band takes more than 4 bathroom breaks in the concert.

  46. To avoid filling up the whole page with quoted text, I'll just say this is in response to Taz's post at 1:55 pm. You're right about my brother. Guns don't fire themselves. He never told me about it, but clearly he did something careless. It's just good luck that the dishwasher was the only casualty. You're also right about the neighbour with the cottage. He showed no common sense at all. He had no excuse for keeping a deadly weapon in deadly (loaded) condition. Good luck was all that kept that incident from becoming a tragedy. As for my father, it's possible that he thought the gun was unloaded, but I can't be sure. It is certain that when you combine guns and alcohol that the situation becomes much more dangerous than when everyone is in their right mind. I could tell you about seeing holes in the walls of a hunting lodge caused by a drunken hunter trying to kill a fly with a shotgun, but you'd think I was making that up. There was an awful lot of drinking in that farming community where I grew up, and car crashes were not rare. If the power went out at night, and there was no blizzard or windstorm, we'd assume someone we knew had hit a power pole with his car. We were often right. I remember reading about a newspaper article written over a hundred years ago, when the first cars were appearing on the roads. The writer thought that the roads would now be safer, since it might mean the end of drunken riders on their horses. Nope, it didn't turn out that way, as we all know. Responsible gun owners, who have proper training and, equally important, a proper attitude about gun safety and safety in general, will rarely have accidents. However, when everybody and his brother has access to firearms, the probably small percentage of careless or clueless or immature or hotheaded people starts to add up to a big number, and we all see the sad results. When nobody is killed or seriously injured, a firearm incident can almost be amusing, as in this one you have likely seen. If you've seen the full length clip that he originally posted, he says "his training kicked in" and he gave himself first aid, putting dressings on his wounds (entrance and exit). By posting the event on YouTube, he shows that he thinks he did a good job of dealing with something that could not have been foreseen and is nobody's fault. He's probably the only person who feels that way. He posted another video a year later to say he has a new respect for guns since he shot himself. It's good to hear that he learned something from that unpleasant experience. Man Shoots Himself: As for suicide attempts, yes, a determined person will find a way. Fortunately, not all suicidal people are really determined. Sometimes the attempt is really a call for help, the only way the person thinks his situation will be taken seriously. If they can be prevented from completing their suicide attempt, they may just give up on the idea and begin to pull themselves together. We can't save all of them, but it's certainly worth trying to save some. In the case of the bridges, some people do go and find another bridge if their first choice has been made safe, but many do not. The article in that link I provided mentions this: Were it not for the barricade, the number of such suicides in recent years might well have been higher, but it is difficult to say so for sure. Meanwhile, most academic literature on the subject makes this very case, and forcefully. The great majority of potential suicides who are drawn to a particular suicide magnet wind up not killing themselves at all – if only they can be prevented from jumping at their preferred spot. "People in a suicide crisis aren't thinking properly," said Paul Links, who holds the Arthur Sommer Rotenberg chair in suicide studies at the University of Toronto. "They don't have a Plan A, a Plan B, a Plan C. They're usually focused on one idea." Here's what a University of California psychologist found: In the late 1970s, University of California psychologist Richard Seiden tracked 515 thwarted jumpers at the Golden Gate, dating from the bridge's completion in 1937 until 1971. Only 6 per cent went on to kill themselves on another occasion, he found. Another U.S. study compares suicide rates at two adjacent bridges in Washington, D.C. One of them, the Duke Ellington Bridge, had been a well-known magnet for suicides, while the other – the William Howard Taft Bridge – was not. In 1986, authorities constructed a protective barrier on the Ellington bridge, preventing suicides there. Many expected a corresponding increase in jumpers at the Taft bridge but it didn't happen. "There is a lot of folk wisdom that says people would just kill themselves elsewhere," said Meyer, from the San Francisco suicide emergency line. "The data very uniformly indicate they will not." Here's the link: http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2010/01/10/the_fatal_attraction_of_suicide_magnets.html I should apologize for taking your thread so far off its original topic, but this discussion seems to be civil and informative. Thanks for your patience, Taz.
