  1. Bit of a blustery day. No work and I'm off to a meeting of the River City Audio Society at 1. It will be a nice afternoon of music, gear and lies about the big one that got away...oh wait, that was fishing. Still great to hang out with fellow audio nuts.

  2. Morning gang, coffee and Belgian waffles are in order. We were snubbed by the weather witch on snow. I was thinking today would be a great day to stay in and drink coffee. Now I feel like I need to go do something. Wife is working most of the day, then around fours its off to mom's for dinner. The kids are sleeping over and the wife is probably working, I need to find something to do. Maybe a bottle of Templeton Rye this evening, in the craft room with the 2 channel rig.

  3. Morning gang... 1st cup well under way.....will roll out soon....we are all going to a church breakfast this morning. we usually go with my wife's parents, but they are sick this morning. They are really getting up in there age and the health problems are starting. They should be in assisted living... but dad refuses to move from there house. MY wife does all the cooking for them cuz mom has altzheimer's. Yea it's getting tough... OK enough of that... Might roll into the shop today..gotta work on my old F-250, trans fluid line leaking....it's a rusty old beast.. Tonight we are going to "Fogo de Chao" it's a Brazilian steak house. It's said to be the chitt... they walk around with big skewers of "MEAT" and carv it right at your plate. All kinds of meat, all you can eat. One of my buddies told me about this place a few years back. We had a new customer in the shop yesterday, and he was talking about these Brazilian steak house's...It was right before lunch when he was telling us about these places.....man I was starving....it sounded sooo good. So a bunch of us are going tonight.. Gotta roll.....wishing all a great weekend.... MKP :-)

  4. Sunny, windy, and a little cool. LF off to play tennis. I'm going to the next county to eat bar-b-q with a couple of old geezers. Tonight LF is having a little dinner party so I guess I'll have to find a pair of jeans without holes Tomorrow an early Thanksgiving with friends and their families. Next Thursday a big feast at LF's cousins house. So in other words I'm going to look like the Goodyear blimp by New Years. Guess that's what January is for.....working out and dieting Or I could get a kilt with elastic waist band like Mark's. LF is now out of her football pool thanks to the Bengals being upset. Kind of miss helping her make her picks. Well enough about me.......what are you guys up to? Cheers Ladies and Gents

  5. Just wanted to give out a quick good morning and cheers to the gang. Didn't check in yesterday and have a bunch of likes to catch up on. Nothing big brewing here ... just really cold with snow on the ground. The mountains got a bunch of it with as much as 18" of new powder. Great for the skiers. Happy Saturday gang.

  6. Woke to the season's first snow; a light dusting, but measurable accumulation is predicted over the weekend. After coffee, I'll gas up the snow blower. The weather forecast for Columbus at game time, 3:30 PM EST, is high 40s with 15% precip; 100% at 6:00 PM. Our snow would be better for football than Ohio rain. I'll be in front of the TV cheering for the Spartans, they'll need all the help they can get. Connor Cook's right shoulder is the big concern. Enjoy the day. May all the gridiron gladiators play hard and safely.

  8. Tool Shed Audio, that is Had these custom dust covers made in anticipation of my, soon to arrive, custom Tool Shed amps. Have a lot of dust and dog hair from two big GSD's. A little insurance to help protect the investment.

  10. You know you live in the south when no stores even sell snow blowers for hundreds of miles. and it's fine with me Although were expected to be 28 degrees tomorrow night, first time we got below 50 this fall. I doubt it will actually get to 28, our grass and pepper plants are still green.

  13. Morning Gang 41, feels like it, weather Nazis say, 31 next week. 90% of the leaves are still on all trees, there was NO FALL. Fresh crushed beans and the Duggans are working well, coffee is perfect. Costco Polish, as well as a little turkeyday shopping. i am liking their special beer packaging Costco seems to have a special deal from brewers, four different types, in one case, $20bucks. Will likely hit the Pub on the way home, our weekly flyby, games/pools need to be in order for the holidays. Today, keep in mind, "It Could Be Worse" you could be in Chicago or the Dakota's

  19. Tea, nothing good ever comes fro having tea, see where it got you..................want me to help you move that Sansui ? You've been eyeing that Sansui, since it came up in a post this summer.[emoji102] im keeping a set of eyes on you.I have made some progress, now just to find a way to organize my junk bins. After dinner i will tackle the rest. The wife thinks the garage is so messy. But i always prove how clean it is when it only takes a couple of hours to clean it, versus the three days she thjnks it will. Good thing i have tunes and heat in the garage. 21. Cinema isn't in the normal system, they are more protective of those. Not sure those have a standard MSRP. Scrappy has a price list from a dealer though. Most of the normal pro stuff is in there though, like anything that starts with "KI-". KI-102, 262, 272, 362, 115, 215, 172, etc., all have easily obtainable MSRP's. I see. I have the price sheet from scrappy. But those prices are low compared to some others I have found. When I was in the market I got other estaminets on them from other dealers (I emailed and talked to a ton of different places). And a lot of them had them priced a lot higher. I got other estaminets, OK what are those exactly? Mark

  25. That does not look bad at all, once cleaned up let her have it everyday. When i wish "Shop Work" i use the wifes garage, when done for the day i sweep up and pull her car back in. Piece of cake, she always has a clean, dry well kept space, and i have a spare clean shop when needed.

  28. Got the main audio gear in place and figured I'd do a little progress thread on it. Installed the 4 5800-C II's in the ceiling this week and it was a big, messy job to say the least! Strapped into beams now, still deciding on final mounting with ceiling sound panel project. They are all 6' and inches to the MLP and angled all in there as well. Research to do still on this. Installed the R-5800-W II panels 7-8' from MLP let all at no attenuation, nice clean, love the magnetic grills on the 5800 series top and sides! Temporarily mounted the RS-7's at 12' from MLP. This whole wall gets a rework and how to do with these horns not reflecting off shelves is the challenge to design around. (pulled down 7 trash cans full of log slices...errr creative absorption left by previous artistic owner!) Here's the 2nd R-115SW. sounds pretty good but really need a home for it. Ideas to put on back wall, sink behind back wall or possibly into wall it's next to now but best not to couple so close to the original 115SW that is behind the sectional under the stairs. Balance sound and cosmetics is the struggle for it. For now... Watching a few ATMOS videos on Youtube, Mad Max and San Andreas getting levels tweaked still. So far I am very pleased but I know it's got a ways to go before it's done. Sheetrock, hiding cables, diffusing and absorption coming up next. Thanks to all whose advice on here for answering my novice and helping to point in the right direction!

  29. Well after all this time I finally have heard what all the fuss is about as far as Jubs, clones and the k402. These speakers aren't like anything I have heard, and I have heard some respectable gear. The bass is so clean and tight it makes your jaw drop. The sound stage is open and airy yet they still image well, even in a small space. I was afraid they wouldn't image like I like, being I have spent the majority of my listening life listening to studio monitors. Now I have only listened to them for about 2 hours and they are no where near where they need to be, the top end is too hot and the upper mids are a little raspy, but so far I am AMAZED. As far as gear that I am using, a Panasonic saxr 55 through the front speaker channels, for the k402s, and a Yamaha Mx1000 for the bass bins, an HK cd player for a pre, and a dx38 with factory settings. In short they are polite, clean, crisp and powerful with the least amount of distortion I have heard from a speaker even though I have a pesky hum.... The speaker ride has finally ended, except for maybe some tad drivers. Thanks to all of you, and a special thanks, to those who have been involved with this design, and those who have explained it and have pushed it..

  31. Wow - those are really nice. I'd love to have one for my amp - is it something that can be made again, or is it a one-off?
    2 points
  32. It can be. Sometimes the source material is recorded or broadcasted poorly and can add audible distortion.Does it happen very often with different sources? Bill so far just with my iPhone and I can only hear it on slower music I was thinking it was the Bluetooth because my kmc3 has some crackle sometimes but I was concerned because I could only hear it out one sideSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Switch the channels the speakers are on (just move the cables, each to the other speaker), and see if the crackle changes sides.

  34. i always liked dressing the most. i would fill my plate with dressing and mashed potatoes and vegetables--turkey? who needs turkey when you have a plate full of stuffing? as i write this, i remember a television commercial from my youth...not sure how it goes in its entirety; but, the punch line is “stuffing...not potatoes."

  36. Happy Friday Y'all Not a thing Happening here, tested the boys Xmas present out this AM and it survived the shipping Pulled the switch head off the ringer washer I am somewhat restoring for camper use, totally gummed up with 67 year old grease. Soaking in a couple gallons of diesel as I type Hoping that will soften up the grease without peeling the original paint off, slap some new grease on the gears and get the wheels turning Later

  37. The rack of SAE gear is sitting in the sun room at my house. The pre started turning off by itself, so it needs some bench time. Not sure what I'll do with the system. I don't need it, I'm not using it and it's taking up room. It may be time to move it along to the next care taker.

  42. The DR Database was initiated by Ian Shepherd in early 2011, and has been growing ever since as a crowdsourced database of dynamic range ratings for albums (including digitized vinyl). There are no opinions involved with the ratings, rather the results are calculated via the offline TT Loudness Meter or the Dynamic Range Meter plugin for foobar2000. There is a "Dynamic Range Day" in late March every year to raise awareness of the dynamic range problems in stereo recordings, and to give awards to those recordings of the year that retain their dynamic range without succumbing to the "Loudness War". The "unknown" sources in the database are due to a more recent change in the database structure that allows the users that are inputting dynamic range meter results to record what kind of source that was used to calculate the results. Also, any database records that were produced before about 2014 didn't have the field available, so when the database was updated to include it, if the authors didn't go back themselves and select the sources for each database record, the default is "unknown" until the field is set. Many people simply ignore the extra fields in the database records when inputting their dynamic range data records, which is actually a shame since most of the important applicability information is involved with those fields. It's pretty easy to sort on the column headers for the displayed database record fields and to add more filters - like artist name or album name to narrow the searches. It's actually fairly useful because of those sorting abilities. I use it a great deal myself for all music tracks that I'm thinking of investing in. I also find that the vinyl and mp3 albums are calculated to be 2-4 ratings points higher than the typical CD, download, or SACD/DVD-A sources, indicating issues with the offline TT Meter or Dynamic Range Meter in foobar2000 use on those sources; I usually ignore those records because of those issues. Here is a YouTube video by Ian Shepherd that explains the issue with vinyl - which is a real eye-opener for that medium. Highly recommended: Chris

  43. The X-Curve FR shelving feature of the Pioneer Elite is nice to have. It's easy enough to enable/defeat (particularly through the AV5 app), and with the amount of DSP power on tap, I'd rather have it available than not. It does make certain soundtracks more palatable. In addition, I'd like to see more shelving filter options available for AVRs. Out of all the "whiz-bang" features they pack into these things, shelving has a huge impact on the overall sound. As far as X-curve in regards to cinema, we get what we get. It's not like we're free to root around in their equipment racks if we hear something we don't agree with.

  47. Oppo now sells the bdp-101ci... a no frills drive only unit without any bells and whistles and is supposed to come to the user as that user specifies as opposed to the user configured as a 103 or 105. I want a 105, but do not want darbee or any network and application BS. I think I will look into this 101ci after prices drop a bit.
