  1. Another Monday and another day back to work. The long weekend was nice. We had two Thanksgivings. The first was at our niece's house and the second was at our home. Here is a picture of the table setting at my niece's place. Her husband made the table from some huge beams with a steel base.

  2. Hey gang, got a lot of catching up to do from yesterday. Probably need to start fresh from this point. Hope your Sunday was good. Pretty mundane here with bill paying, groceries, etc. Knocked off the rest of Thanksgiving pie and do NOT want to get on the scale. Watched our Broncos pull off a big win vs. the Pats. We were still cleaning the kitchen at 10:30 last night but well worth it. Enjoy the day and cheers.

  4. Good Monday morning. It's been decades since I've had an alcohol fueled hangover, after way way too many in the 70s. I find that too much food can result in a hangover also. My theory is that excess amounts of alcohol or food requires your body to rid itself of the excess, which disrupts sleep, which generates a hangover. I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but that's my theory and experience.

  5. The car in my avatar had air horns. It was so low, it was sometimes necessary to make your presence known. I sent Sancho a PM, but have not heard anything.

  6. I spent 30 years in Home Audio/Video/Automation and the last 10 of it as a Manufacturers Rep/Distributor. We rep'd TV companies like Samsung, Sony, Sharp, Mitsubishi, and Pioneer. It cracks me up about all this new video hype and the crap they keep trying to come up with to sell TV's. Look at 3D...pretty much a flop. There's no excitement in video and no margins in it that places really care to sell TV's. I could care less about 3D, 4K, or BR549 video. 1080p looks great and OTA broadcast looks great. If you need something better than that, you spend too much time watching tv. But that's just me... Too many years in the industry gave me a don't give a shard attitude. They can build crap TV's that won't last long and expect us to buy new ones every 5 years. Nah...

I currently run a 200 watt X 7 system only one pair of my speakers are rated to handle more than 100 continusly. I listen to everything from classical to rock..... I love my Montrose LOUD..... I think my ears give in before my Klipsch do...... But then again.. The average age of my Klipsch speakers is about 20 years old.... And I am almost 60. So maybe my ears are shot... I know my Chorus II's aren't. G.E.M

ALSO, when you started talking about high power locomotive horns (I think of Leslie brand), BUT, I started thinking about a very good video of this smallish car coming around a bend late at night.............AND THEN, you POSTED THAT VIDEO !!! (what are the chances ) But yeah, with those DB levels, you MUST proceed with caution for sure... Well, enjoy your new found and official retirement... I will be 63 next month, and figure I have 2 more years as worker bee.......Car will be paid for then, and half that will turn into a monthly health insurance payment...........should all work out... All my LED outdoor lightings were turned on this evening, new additions each year, tastefully done I assure you.... You won this time, think of this, it could have been wrose No Schitt, I normally drive the 'back roads' but with the flooding I went I-35, lucky choice and thanks to the dealer that gave me a hundred break without asking! I told them to get me on the road as I didn't have much choice and they made a quick diagnosis, replacement and got me and the kiddos back on the road. At the cashier I was informed of the break in price after agreeing to the retail cost beforehand. The service manager noted that I was wearing a military sweat shirt and was from out of town. Two thumbs up to those guys!!

Sweet tuned is an understatment, but then again, i wish to be DONE with this youngin sport.

  20. That's true, I remembered the loudest horn I have ever heard and knew I had a pic. A ship horn, couldn't get any closer but it's a good size electric motor, where the pic is from is not where you want to be when it goes off.

  21. Even the small horns can get really loud, I have to say once while riding with him someone started to pull out in front of us and he blew the horn, i think it really helped prevent the accident. Somewhere on you tube is videos of people blowing large horns scaring unsuspecting people, it's pretty funny.

  25. So not to muck up another thread. After discussing the Tuba home theater yesterday it reminded me to start my own one off version of the long style THT. It will be a downfiring version, final size will be 90" high x 21" wide x 18" deep. Great use of floorspace. After lunch i drew up the model & started with the sawdust. Cut up a bunch of panels and glued a few up. More work done today, pictures coming soon.

Here comes a car with a driver not paying attention (until the last minute)...car stops about 6 feet from me. The lady waves. Maybe she just wanted a closer look of me?

  28. I was searching the web for some specs on some older Klipsch speakers and noticed that they are no longer available through the Klipsch website? All they offer now is a redirect to new speakers? This was a very handy feature and I'm disappointed that it has been discontinued. http://www.klipsch.com/products/chorus-floorstanding-speaker

  29. Keep looking....it will be worth it. I started with the Velodyne F1500, upgraded to the Velodyne HGS15 and then dual HGS15's. I had the opportunity to purchase my first RSW15 and it performed better than Dual HGS15's! You can see my RSW15 vs HGS15 comparison thread here. After purchasing the RSW-15, I forgot that I had unhooked one of the HGS15's. Once I realized the HGS had been unplugged and I was loving the RSW-15 by itself, I sold the HGS15 and later purchased two more RSW-15's.

Ok, spiderman stated, "With power comes responsibilty" This i have, and must continue to live with, i can blow people into the street, crash cars, cause untold havick. Yes indeed, i installed my "Clayton" Valve on the floorboard where in order to "pull it" i need to flip up two midconsole seats. Thank god i did this, we all have people that deserve the use of a "FullPull", if i could have gotten to this Valve one more than once, i would be in jail. I do let the farmers know im coming (wile on the freeway) 2.5 miles......as the crow flys.

  42. ...if so, then I'd really recommend a better active digital crossover than the one you identified, which I've heard of no successful implementations using fully horn-loaded loudspeakers such as Khorns in a home hi-fi environment. I recommend starting with something that you know will do the job without further modification required. What you propose is like using an inexpensive passive crossover to make your Khorns sound better: they may sound better in certain ways due to some specific difference in implementation from the stock crossovers, but ultimately the owner returns to original configuration later because of issues with quality of the inexpensive crossover, thus blaming the approach itself rather than the implementation for the failure. Good active digital crossovers/loudspeaker processors that I know of include Xilica, ElectroVoice, Yamaha, Ashly Protea, BSS Omni Drive, etc. These units will work out-of-the-box with sufficient fidelity to support hi-fi and you can find most of them used for reasonable prices. They are investments that you can take from loudspeaker project to project indefinitely, rather than "for dialing in purposes only". To me, using a unit of entry-level quality like a DBX, Behringer, miniDSP, or similar, all are half-hearted approaches that I've read about over and over again, all ending up poorly. The odds are poor using very low price-point digital active crossovers, speaking historically. If you are trying to cross Khorns I also don't recommend analog active crossover units, either. The loudspeaker time delay mismatches are too great in magnitude, and their audibility too great not to correct those delay mismatches. It may be necessary to use all-pass filters to correct the phase misalignments in the crossover passbands: I don't typically see all-pass and parametric EQ filters in typical analog active units. For those that claim that they can't hear significant benefits of time alignment, I usually start by asking questions about what they actually have tried. In every case that I've encountered (where the owner will share with me) something in the implementation prevented hearing the benefits clearly, mostly having to do with crossover quality to begin with, but also other major issues such as room acoustics, horns, and driver quality. There is a threshold in anything related to hi-fi in terms of quality of implementation, above which a certain satisfaction in the result is realized. Like PWK, I would tend to flash a BS button on moral relativity statements on the audibility of the results of digital active crossover implementation. There are very few instances that I've encountered where the issue was human hearing capabilities of the person(s) involved. The audible difference in my experience has always been dramatic when done well enough. Chris

  44. I like thick acoustic insulation you are using. My plots really improved when I added 9 7.35" panels to my ceiling. Basically, my entire ceiling is covered with these: http://www.gikacoustics.com/product/gik-acoustics-monster-bass-trap-flexrange-technology/ Your room is twice the size or more of mine, so I'm not sure how feasible this is. Maybe there is some stiffer acoustic insulation you can add over the door. It looks like you could cover most of the door with a 3-4" layer and still open it all the way, but it'd suck to cover such a pretty looking door. I'm assuming you custom made it? Are these measurements with or without EQ? What room eq system are you using? I'm going to assume these are without EQ. I think we need to see plots like I'm showing with room eq on and off. Maybe just FL, FR and sub for now. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/150606-our-venture-into-retirement-with-a-dedicated-home-theater/page-10#entry1800295 Also, when you use Audyssey or Dirac or whatever, I would only measure at the money seat. I usually do 9 points following the Dirac one seat guidelines (did this with Audyssey Pro too). Then I'll check things with REW using a single measurement. If you use REW to build your filters, you probably should do the same 9 points and average them then generate the filters. Getting a plot that's +/-5dB with 1/48 smoothing was hard with Dirac, but I think Audyssey did a better job flattening the freq response if you look at my old posts. I would never try to do this at all seats (not saying you are, but just in case). Just pick a money seat and point all mid-ranges at your ears. Calibrate only for that seat, etc... This is my philosophy and how I can usually get +/-5dB. Really though, the waterfall and impulse plots should be the first thing you look at at this point. When you make new measurements, I would post the file in the cloud somewhere and provide a link after starting just a measurement thread here or posting to the REW thread on AVS. I use the recommendations found here when making plots: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/91-audio-theory-setup-chat/1449924-simplified-rew-setup-use-usb-mic-hdmi-connection-including-measurement-techniques-how-interpret-graphs.html I bet your room sounds great as is. Looks like you and I've both spent months and months studying this stuff to get the best possible plots out of our rooms.
