  1. Good late evening my friends! Looks like you all had a great time in Hope with the Klipsch family! Besides the wonderful ADULT beverages, did you get to hear some great music from new AND Heritage Klipsch speakers?? I really want to attend one of these with you all............looking forward to going NEXT year! Chuck, thanks for the explanation on the roof project. Really too bad for the poor ventilation. I have seen this before. Here, my home is 1979, and no problems with roof etc. The chimney however is a different story! The cement cap at the top has been cracked for a number of years. Bricks are shedding their faces each winter!! A pile of brick fronts lay on the garage roof after each winter! Had an estimate to rebuild last week....................$3500 !!!!!!!!!! The driveway and sidewalks also need to be replaced................ Ahhhhh, home ownership!, but we do what we can do... Have a good evening my friends................off to bed now....... .................Gary

  6. You should still have convection air movement but you're correct, the powered vent moves so much more air. True but with powered you constantly pay for electricity and need replacing which easily offset cost of free convection if done correctly. With summer temps attic powered vents run almost nonstop even when set at high temperatures. Ceptorman last time I installed a attic vent it was on my father in laws house, when I cut the hole to begin installing we had to step back, it was like a blast of hot air from the attic wanting to rise. That is what turns the old round spinning models, convection, not the wind at all. But one downside to the spinning models is for a hurricane many people will put a garbage bag over and tied at the bottom so really high winds make the rpm's of the spinning destroy itself.

  8. It didn't kill me this year to "sponsor" the martini bar. Special thanks to Jim and Mike for helping with supplies as well. If I get a bottle now and then and put it back for next year I should be good. I was also planning on starting a poll once we get closer to next year to see if there would be any interest in me bringing gin as well. Actually, one of my lasting memories of this weekend would've been very early on Thursday night with Carl already standing behind the bar, shake shake shake, and he looks at me and he says "damn, my hand is cold"...And I said, "Carl, you still have the whole weekend" and he gave me a look, and said, "yeah, ain't it great?"

  9. I have to say I had a good time, the whole time is kind of a blur, and no it wasn't from Carl's great Martini's which was my first drink 2 days in a row. Thank you Carl you made many people happy, it seemed there were martini glasses everywhere with smiling faces. Thank you Luther for 75 pounds of REALLY good sausage, it was one of my most favorite things all weekend, well except for talking with you and everyone else. For everyone i didn't talk with, it was my loss and I realize that now and the ones I did talk with thanks, it's really why I go to these things. We didn't get home until last night and were tired and it's still not over, there is still some stuff that needs to be done plus the car is unloaded and sitting in a big pile inside. i still want to see some of the people who couldn't make it this time next year, but after this weekend I doubt Tarheel's Martinis could be better than Carls, I have had a total of 4 in my life and all from Carl. So OK I'm biased.

  10. I received a very nice batch of new and used old stock tubes from Thebes in response to the thread on modding the Jolida 100 CDP. I was and am so excited with the concept of rolling all these wonderful 12AX7s that I have made some very basic mistakes and have not been scientific in the least. I probably have a mild case of ADD as I have not been able to evaluate one change at a time. I started with the Amperex Bugle Boys in the Jolida and was smitten. Next came the RCA 5751s, a variant (less gain) of the 12AX7. This tube was also very nice and I could live happily with those for a long...long time. Then I started getting off track and rolled a pair of Telefunken in the Quicksilver preamp. Then I decided to change out the Raytheon 12AU7 in the pre with a 1956 GE tube from my own supply. Next I changed the teles in the pre to the Bugle Boys and Valvos in the Jolida. Next came Mullards in the Jolida 100 and thankfully I have only the Sylvanias left to roll. Man am I confused[] The Valvos are NOS and will have to be burned in for awhile to give them a fair shake. I think I prefer the Bugle Boys in the Jolida and the Mullards or perhaps the Telefunken in the Quicksilver. There are no bad tubes here just a hyperactive roller....hey Thebes I'm dying to try some Mazda 12AX7s in theCDP if you have any. Just kidding. Man this is fun...next go round I'm going to have to use some discipline[] Thanks again Marty. PS....coming up next...I unhook the QS Horn Monos and plug in the HK 500 and change out the entire front end with OS tubes....whew boy..thats going to be fun. That amp is a wonder.

  13. Interesting. I had never heard of this before. That's the direction things are going around here for crawl spaces, they want it sealed and conditioned. It's not currently a code requirement, just a suggestion. Yes I'm >5 years in and all seems OK so far. I feel it will last longer than I do. Know what I mean?

  14. Sealed attics and crawl spaces stabilize air flow and reduce air leakage. As babadono points out it depends on what part of the country you live in. Foundation vents make perfect since in Minnesota or North Dakota but not in Louisiana, Mississippi, or Florida. In humid environments vents are counter productive. Warm air always seeks cooler air. So the air outside your house seeks cooler air such as in a crawlspace and then condenses. What makes matters worse is if you have a vapor barrier on grade to keep the moisture from going into the ground you create a swimming pool. AC ducts that leak aggravate the problem by providing additional conditioned air. Speaking of air leakage check with your power company to see if they will do a power audit to include duct leakage. It is possible to pinpoint sources of leaks by using a blower door and creating a negative pressure on the envelope of the structure. Armed with that information you can go about sealing the leaks. In my training while I was in the housing industry I quickly learned where most houses leak. Any penetration through the structure is suspect. Go into a house under construction before the dry wall goes up and look at the size of the holes under a bathtub where the supply and drain come in

  15. My suggestion would be something from Klipsch KG series that would be closer in timbre' (KG1, KG1.2, KG1.5, KG2, KG2.2, KG2.5)

  16. My sincere thanks and deep regards to Christy, Rodney, and everyone both at Klipsch and out at Rodney's place for everything they did for all of us these past few days. The tours, the food, the music and the friendship were absolutely off the charts. Already looking forward to next year. Thank you again. JimJimbo

It was nice to have one of your light and refreshing cocktails after drinking moonshine straight and neat for the two previous days.Next year I will "sponsor" the Bloody Mary bar to give you a break.

  21. Yum brisket Gary the house was built in 1996 but due to inadequate ventilation the shingles were toast We are installing the same brand that I used on my house... CertainTeed Landmark Pro in Georgetown Gray. They are using Rhino membrane rather than felt. Don't know how those guys walk that steep a roof LP gas tank installation this morning. Kitchen demo complete and the cabinets and granite tops reinstalled in garage. Windows ordered. Master bath demo scheduled. Glad you guys made it back safe from Hope. Anyone step on the scales yet

  22. I'm glad everyone like the sausages. It helped that I could cook them low and slow on Rodney's wood burning smoker. If you're ever in Austin, you have to make the trip over to Lockhart and try Smitty's brisket. It's even better than their sausage.

  23. After getting much assistance from my brother, I have the Klipschorn's set up! The room they are in is not ideal, as it isn't big enough, but I don't want to part with these so I made it work for now! Here are a couple of pictures-- there is still some remodeling to take place in the space they are in, so it is a bit of a mess!

  24. I think I developed martini elbow this weekend. I agree with all the above sentiments and loved how the factory tour was broken up into segments. Of course my favorite part of the weekend was seeing old friends and making new ones. I also think I put on about 5 pounds as well. That desert lady is down right evil.

  25. I just bought a Wyred 4 Sound ms 2 music server. It has about 4,500 albums loaded in FLAC. Got it on Audiogon and the music is legal. The clincher for me was that it was mostly jazz. Can't wait to hear it. Anyone have any experience with this unit? How about servers in general?
    1 point
  26. I have not heard that particular unit. like most servers, I expect it to be not only very convenient... but seamless with high quality sound. I dont expect any server to impart a sonic signature.

  28. I've owned both, and both sounded great, they are very similar speakers. Though it looks like the KLF series (97'-01') was to replace the higher end KG series. The KG 5.5 were made 94'-97'.

  30. I have a set of the Klipsch outdoor speakers I hang under my soffits. I believe they were the 525's, been a couple years and would have to actually look them up. They work great! I have them connected via a Nuvo system to my deck. I leave them up year round and I live in Ohio. They survived a couple of the previous winters with extended temps below zero. I actually have an MP3 of sleigh bells that I play on Christmas Eve

  37. It's a no brainer. Levi's has a custom shop, 350 to 500 a pair, in San Francisco. The Fender Custom Shop is legendary. What year are we up to on Paul's birthday this year? Create a Signature Model, Be drivers, etc. Make that Jubilee bass bin in a real exotic wood, with grill covers, and get Roy to make a wood horn to match size of 502. You do that, set it up in a great listening space at CES, I think you could sell a 100 pair right off the floor at 20K a pair retail. Get Billy Bob Thorton to design a pair, and sell a limited edition of those, etc., etc. Made to order, money up front, accurate waiting times given, no inventory to carry. Chad can create an app or way customers can check status, on real time, just like shipping a UPS package? Who ever asked you to check into this is a genius Chad and I like the way they think. I was talking about this very thing with some photographer dude just the other day.

  41. BLS, This is Colter's old setup.....I bought it from him last year. I wanted a very easy system to move around, so I built the dolly boards for each stack. This makes it a breeze to move in/out of garage. However, I've about come around to just keeping this setup. I thought about parting the system out, and might do that at some point, but for now I think I will just enjoy it.....and piss off the neighbors! I love it when someone new attends our neighborhood gatherings and gets to experience these for the first time.....priceless! It makes the Heresy or Forte garage speakers seem so inadequate. Go big or......go bigger! Hogfan

I was at the shop all day today.... I buttoned the Pilot all up... put on the plastic covers and splash shield on the engine...DONE....500 miles on rebuild running great The rest of the day was spent cleaning up my "project bay" for the last several years I've had my 1987 CRX Si in this bay. I've done nothing but pile crapp in this bay under the car. I have hundreds of hours in this car and 1000's of dollars.....I've made a commitment to get this thing done!! This car has 85K miles on it and is 98% rust free. If I get it running this year and back to my buddies paint shop I'll be happy.. OK gang.....a good night to all.. MKP :-)
