  1. True there are many over the years, people get busy, have life changes, burn out, buy bose , well things move on for everyone sooner or later. Even if it's just being happy with what they have and just listening to music and movies and not joining in as much or at all. Over the last 13 years I have seen many extremely funny/crazy/smart people come and go, along with a few who were not nice or funny which caused a few others to move on. Part of the reason we try and not let that happen, we don't want to see people go. But there is a good group here and new people all the time joining, it helps when members are able to get together in person, as hard is that do do for everyone. I can say is seems every year during the summer people tend to get out more and are busier, and things tend to slow down a little around here.......or it just seems like it to me ? Kind of like us, we have been away from home alot between visiting friends and Rodneys last year. We were in Hope last year for at least 8-10 weeks and going back for over a week to help Klipsch and the support the startup of the PWK museum at the Watermelon festival in Hope. With any luck I can bring back some pictures. Sorry for going on and on but I hate to see people move on also.

  2. Morning gang... Coffee going down nice.... 2nd cup under way.... Will be working on my youngest daughters 99 Honda Civic today... putting on a new set of tires and some new headlights. The old headlights are so yellow and cloudy it's hard to see at night. Over the years I have reconditioned them three times... It's just time for a new set... We got this Civic from one of our customers a few years back. I've been working on this car since it had approx 75K on it. It's now got something like 326K.... Original engine and transmission and it's rust free. Several months before our customers sold us the Civic they put on a new set of Michelin tires on it. So it was a no brainer when they asked us if we wanted the car. It really had no trade value, but I knew this car inside and out.... and they didn't want money$$$ they wanted shop credit.... Yup was a good deal.... and I also really think they enjoy knowing there Civic went to my daughter. Yea.... the forum thing..... I HATE change.... it gets me all worked up, I wish things just stayed the same (that's not a dig at the new forum)..... Just things in life.... Years ago when cars were changing from carburetor to fuel injection.... I was all twisted up..... what kind of BS is this crapp.... Now some thirty years later it's the norm... If there's one thing that stays the same is...... "Everything changes"..... OK... that's all from me for now....gotta roll.... a good day to all... MKP :-) Yea I also miss BigStewMan

  5. I agree with Dtel's assessment. I joined here in December of 2003. Over the years my participation has varied, depending on what was going on in my life. I'm sure it is the same with many others. Then there is always the blow ups and hurt feelings that happen on any forum with more than one person. Some leave forever and others come back, after some time.

  6. Dtel's got it. Life happens. A close friend has had a terrible car wreck here. We have been spending a lot of time at the hospital. She seems to be getting excellent trauma care at UAB.

  7. Doesn't seem the same somehow but then when you post and it takes 45 secs to save at 20 mbps upload speed it's a drag. Then there is the 'getting used to it'; we'll be ok in a bit.

  8. As you’ve probably heard, there is a move afoot to preserve Paul W. Klipsch’s legacy remaining with Klipsch Group, Inc. I say “remaining” because New Mexico State University obviously has a large portion, and the estate of Valerie Klipsch undoubtedly has a considerable portion. The portion remaining at Klipsch is due in large measure to Paul’s pack rat tendencies. He and the company were as near synonymous as one could imagine for over four decades. Things continue to surface in “nooks and crannies”. In late March, discussions with Christy Luquet got around to the topic of “What happens when Hunter is gone?” This was a result of discussing my impending retirement at the end of this year, as well as my efforts to at least “thin down the herd” of museum holdings in order to make room to locate the paper archives within that building. You know, get all the old crap in one place! Ms. Christy (as you might imagine) suggested that Klipsch should donate the building and contents to a charity that we should form. On 3/31/2016 we held our first exploratory meeting. In attendance were Christy Luquet, Kevin Harmon, Travis Williamson, Dave Mallette, Marshall Muros, Jeff Matthews, Matt Sommers, and me. The “working group” (WoG) for the development of the Klipsch Heritage Museum Association, Inc. was born. Over time the WoG has seen a few members added and/or “retired”, but all contributed considerably while they were involved. Those three are Marshall Muros, Frank Dudek, and Roy Delgado. The past four months have seen an incredible effort by the WoG and Klipsch Group, Inc. to establish something that is every bit a business venture. In this relatively short time we have established our “Mission, Vision, and Goals”, an impressive Board of Advisors, a 20-page set of by-laws, incorporation, and all but a couple of positions on our executive committee and Board of Trustees. On 7/13/2016 the WoG had its final meeting. My 7/20/2016 letter of appreciation to the WoG follows: Direction of the KHMA continues under our Executive Committee: Jim Hunter, President Kevin Harmon, Vice President (President of Vice, as PWK would say) Christy Luquet, Secretary TBD, Treasurer (we do have a couple of leads) with Travis Williamson, Legal Counsel Our Vision statement reads: Our vision is to foster interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics through the examples of Paul W. Klipsch. Our mission: The Klipsch Heritage Museum Association’s mission is to restore, preserve, maintain and display Klipsch and Klipsch-related artifacts and archival materials for historic purposes, as well as to conduct pertinent research and to host educational activities and events. Keep an eye on www.klipschmuseum.org. It is just a place-holder currently, but Luther Ward and Chad Wells (Klipsch Group) have big plans under development. Tax exempt status from the IRS will be solicited shortly, which, with approval, will allow us to indicate that your contributions will be “tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law” as Travis would caution us! Until then we will limp along financially. And if you’re in the neighborhood, come see us at the Hope Watermelon Festival August 11-13!

  9. Happy Friday, guys. Grass cutting day. That's as exciting as it gets for this old fart today. Will probably continue to polish up a couple old Jackie Wilson songs on the B-3 too. Good stuff. Yeah ..people come and go. I dropped off for a while when I had health issues a little while back. Chuck and Mark (Tarheel/MKP) were good friends to me and made sure I was ok. I'm grateful to them. You really can make friends here and friendship is something we should hold onto. Have a good day everyone. Chuck

The long awaited Press Release from Klipsch is available to view here: http://www.klipsch.com/news/klipsch-announces-non-profit-to-manage-klipsch-audio-history-museum So many of us have worked diligently since before the Pilgrimage to see this vision become a reality. Our new website will be up in short order. We are going to be looking for volunteers with any/all skill sets. We are hopeful that all of you are as excited about this as we are! Christy

  13. ^^^^ actually I wanted to quote Mark^^^^ Don't beat yourself up with "what ifs" Mark. If it wasn't that it would have been something else. Sleep well knowing every decision you made was in her best interest. Every decision you made was from your heart. Stop second guessing yourself, it'll drive you crazy and you don't deserve it.

  18. Found this on another forum and found it fitting.... I switched from using electrons to positrons in my audio system, and the improvement was not subtle. I know it is kind of inconvenient (a badge of honor for a true audiophile), but switching over to antimatter-based electricity really does make a tremendous difference. I urge you to contact your local quantum mechanic and set up a demo soon!

  20. Everyone knows washing machine cords tend to water down the sound, dryer cords obviously gives everything a warm sound, common knowledge. Solar is the only real way to go, straight from the roof to your room touching nothing, why would you even consider tying into something that is powering a clock radio and blow dryer down the street ? It's all personal choices, right or wrong gets blurry because we all hear different things, for example Calliope music. sorry Dave

  21. Amen to that. Administrations have been understaffing and overworking hospital worker for decades to prop up profitability. After all, the more profitable a hospital is, the bigger the sale price when the conglomerate buys them. It's a no-win situation and the reason my wife left hospital nursing. It is different for me too for whatever reason. I really don't think I am aclimated yet. I can't quite put my finger on it, but you definitely have something there.

  23. Thats Steve, I am extremely lucky to have her. Feng Shui is an interesting subject and is often ridiculed in western culture unfairly. At its core, I believe Feng Shui is the practical application and understanding of the symbolic language similar to fine art in which certain shapes representing masculine and feminine archetypes, leading lines and focal points are utilized. Unfortunately, she also quickly recognized that my LaScalas are really just giant "Poison Arrows" pointed at her which is something I am still working out...

  24. This actually made me realize something. The same mindset that makes me REALLY enjoy ice cream is the same mindset that makes me REALLY enjoy my stereo system. On a more serious note, there are interesting things like this that are a factor in music enjoyment. My wife is into Feng Shui and its really bad to have your back to a door as you subconsciously are aware someone can enter behind you. This actually works for meetings where if someone is usually really loud you try to get him with his back to the door and it will tone him down a little. Thus I changed around my listening room to nolonger have my back to the door and actually found I could relax better and get more into the music. That and I nolonger have those hellish moments where I am deep into musical bliss with my eyes closed and am startled out of my wits when my wife comes and and taps on my shoulder.

  27. Here is what I dont get about expensive power cords- the last 3 ft from the wall to your amp may be a $6,000 super unobtanium double stranded helix alloy but as soon as you hit the wall, you have run of the mill electrical cord that goes to the power box?

  28. I did the poor man's version of the aluminum trim. I simply took 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/8" angle and cut it beveling the corners. I have a fab shop at work and this stuff is laying around everywhere. You can get it at most hardware stores. Where are you located. There a dozens of places near St. Louis that stock it. I used stainless steel screws and a little Locktite adhesive caulk (clear) to hold it in place. Probably about $20 worth of aluminum. (Sorry for the sideways photo, new format ya know)

  29. That would be fun...... but too much to do up here in Kokotucky. Saturday the 6th of August we've got Robby Krieger of the Doors with opening acts Shaggy Wonda and The Easthills. Free in Kokomo's Foster Park at Weber Fest (In honer of Ted Weber's musical instrument speaker company Weber VST. I thin tedweber.com will get you there) So much wanted to go to the shindig in Hope in April. Just couldn't do it. Closer now but still can't do it. Not this week anyway. Christy's and my good friend Jill wanted to go to that also but couldn't make it wither.

  31. 1) Add absorption in the nearfield of the La Scala midrange horn mouths (i.e., carpet the floor out to about a yard/metre or two, side walls...2' squares on each side wall and on front wall). 2) Move the La Scalas into the room corners with the absorption squares and floor absorption - for widest separation of the midrange horn mouths and tweeters, aimed slightly in front of your listening position, i.e., not flat on the front wall. 3) Add a few diffusion panels around the front portion of the room (especially front wall) and perhaps ceiling that are effective down to ~400 Hz, with a bass trap or two in one or more corners to control midbass down to 80-100 Hz (i.e., 2' x 4' x 4" maxi traps diagonal across the corner) 4) Remove any acoustic reflectors between the loudspeakers (except diffusion panels) out to about 1-2 yards from the midrange horn mouths and your listening position. The sound and imaging will be greatly improved if you do all of this... probably much better than they were in the garage. Chris

  32. Yes, very lucky to find someone both compassionate And trustworthy these days. We brought my mom to our house after she had a couple falls at her house, she was 86. My wife and were still working so we brought in someone to watch her during the day. Not only did she watch her but also helped herself to our belongings. I at least had the foresight to install a lock a bedroom where valuable info, banking, checks, etc. were kept. After telling the agency she wasn't to return one thing led to another with me refusing to pay a months worth of invoices. After explaing why to the "unknowing" COO of the company and being threatened with letters that would direct the issue to bill collectors and their attorneys, they were informed that both a civil and criminal lawsuit was in their future as a close family member is a lawyer in a well known firm in the city. The letters and actions ceased and the billing was dropped. Had no choice but to put Mom in a nice home where she passed a few months later. I still blame myself for that decision at what I believe was the cause for her give up. It ain't easy.

  35. The ice cream analogy is actually a good one to use here. There is a lot happening by the time the signal is converted into into the part of the brain that actually decides what it hears, and no you can't really always trust your ears or your brain to be 100% consistent over time, even a short time. That same ice cream I liked last night may taste alot different in the morning and nothing has changed in the ice cream. The taste may be perceived differently, depending on the mood I am in, how hungry I am, and what I am hungry for. Nothing changed, yet today I may not enjoy it like I did yesterday. It may not taste like it did yesterday because my chemistry is always fluctuating. Same with music. 110 volts at 60Hz power from the wall gets so filtered and converted by the power supply anyway. I know there is fluctuation in my hearing and perception (like my taste), based on so many things - mood, fatigue, what I have been listening too previously, for how long, for how loud, placebo effect (which is real), etc. Your ears and brain adjust constantly. I know that is going on, so to ignore it and attribute my changing perception to the power cord seems to be ignoring what is really going on, which is that our perception changes and adjusts constantly. This is why measurement is important, because when we get to this level of nuance where we are talking in terms of "...instrumental color saturation and texture, and seeming expansions of dynamic shadings and tactile expressiveness ", and we can't measure it, we are often in the realm of perception.

  36. This is my go to video on room treatments for reflections etc. There are certain principles that should be adhered to and you can tweak things from there. Chris A did a good job going over some of these and the absorption on the primary reflection point is the most important in my book. The easiest way to check for the reflection points is to get a laser pointer, a white balloon, a mirror, some beer and a buddy. Place the white balloon where your head would be while sitting in your listening position. Then take the laser pointer and place it on top of the front of your LaScala above the tweeter. Have your buddy hold the mirror on the wall starting at the speaker and point the laser at the mirror. Have him move the mirror back toward the couch along the wall until the laser hit the balloon and that is where the sound is going to bounce before getting to your ears and where you want a absorption panel. You will want to do this for both speakers and the left and right walls for 4 primary reflection points. This is a little cumbersome and takes some patience so the beer is important. You can also try this with your Spouse but you may get 5 min before she gets tired of it and is not recommended. Also, if you want to replicate the larger room of your garage, diffusion will give a greater sense of space in the room.

  37. I'd highly recommend nosvalves. Previous owner of my 299 had Craig rebuild it. Sounds great, and he's helped me a few times over the years with questions even though I wasn't the original customer. He was just answering a question I had about gain levels here the other day. If I get another Scott, it's going to him for sure.

  39. Put the LaScala's inside and see what you think, and try the Forte's in the garage, you could always move them back. Put the best sounding where they will get used the most. I think you just like the LaScalas better. If I had to guess it's the midrange and horn bass of the LaScala , I would feel the same. Not that I don't like the forte's, we have some, and it is smaller but mostly a completely different design ? Could be the difference ?

  41. When I got my first Klipsch (Heresy), my wife was blown away. She loved them as much as I did which went a long way for her tolerance of my hobby and it helped sell her on the fact that we needed La Scalas! LOL Having your wife on board is a major win. She was in 100% in when we decided to restore the Heresies. Great project that we did together.
