  1. It took most of the day Sunday to recover. We went from the winery to my house. 6 of us played Cards Against Humanity until our faces hurt from laughing then watched music videos till 2 a m. It was great though.

  4. Happy Thanksgiving week everyone! Hope everyone is able to enjoy time with the people who matter in your lives this week! (BESIDES the wonderful folk on the forum!) Had a chance to listen to a friends Definitive Technology Speakers this weekend - not bad - especially for movies. While the side firing sub thing didn't work that well for me, I could see where someone would get used to that. For a Thanksgiving spirit, for those who enjoy whiskey, I would recommend a (new to me) bottle of Sheep Dip. Quite smooth! Also enjoying the Sam Adams Winter Lager for the beer crowd! SO much to be thankful for this year! Specifically family and HEALTH! For those facing the health battle, prayers with you right now. Have a great week! Happy Thanksgiving!

  6. People were concerned. Glad you're alive and well. I don't follow the email remote posting issue you describe. I was able to post from China a few weeks ago. Email had nothing to do with it. Your situation could be different. Best wishes.

  7. Fire looks nice and warm. Like a guy reminded me the other day, you can take off your clothes in hot weather and still be too hot, or you can bundle up for warmth in cold weather and stay warm enough, I choose cold after this last summer. Cool weather setting in this past weekend and I say high times. Spoke with Weber last Friday finding out he has maybe enough firewood and other cool things going on. Guess I should have been born farther north. Thanks for the call James and thanks for missing me a bit some of you. My other place in town has a different e-mail address so did not want to have to reactivate to that computer to respond to what have been reading here. Local strategy selling audio stuff not doing so swell at the moment. May have to post some items here again. So finally on my minimalist program. Do little, drink little, say little. Sortof goes with my knowing very little. Will be having Thanksgiving here with the cats later this week. So howdy for now then and: Was sorry to hear about Baxter's passing. Thanks Neil for the good wishes for the Thanksgiving week. No supercharger needed Tarheel and Vermont doing industrial hemp growing and watch out for non-FDA supplement company going public likely to fund a CBD oil with health claims that should do well. Could be a good revenue stream source. A source for some background generally is here: https://www.ruralvermont.org/issues-main/agricultural-hemp/ I-Hub has a good pot section with what is happening in the sector there Tarheel. Let me know if you should want/ need more specifics... Thanks and safe travels to you all!

  9. Reminds me of a joke One Sunday a church full of people at a service was shocked to see the devil himself appear in the front, everyone got up and ran out except for one old man. The devil looked at the man and asked why didn't you run like everyone else ? The old man stood up and said I am not scared of you one bit, the devil looked surprised and asked why ? The old man smiled and said I married your sister 40 years ago, you can't compete with her !

  19. Morning gang Two cups and breakfast done, I suppose we should be resting up for a busy week. Thanksgiving will be a little different this year, wife tending to her wrist puts a cramp on our fixin's. Decided on Black Angus, let the Chef's cook for a change. Good Day

  20. Afternoon all.... Working on 2nd cup of Kona coffee this morning and this will is the only blend we brought with us. Pouring the coffee out of this pot requires some mad skills, it's a bit deformed..... Gonna be without the BUNN for the next several days.... Cool weather here at the ocean, a few clouds but mostly clear skies.... Gonna roll out of our room and go to the omlet place. This place only serves omlets and they are on another level. We get lump crab meat, mushrooms and spinach in ours. We found this place a few years ago and we eat there most evey day. Check in later.... MKP :-)

  22. Oh my SWL, he does seem to like that post..... We have woodpeckets around our house and they just hammer on the oak trees. Man I bet that sound does carry into your house, cuz I know how they sound in my back yard They have never bothered my house......don't know what to tell other than..... google it Good luck.... MKP :-)

  23. If you have trees which might harbor their food, they will prefer the trees. I have woodpeckers close to year round, and they like the Live Oak, and the Chittamwoods, and some dead stuff, nearby, but don't bother the house.

  24. Thanks Neil and thanks for the reminding me to look for my latest password here which I did not have on new computer there. Bet that is the problem. One of Nancy's nieces and her boyfriend have been doing some teaching in China for the past 5 years and come back once a year for a visit. There just has to be some attractions to a place so huge and vibrant an economy in recent times. Know BSM wrote the rules but I did pm Tarheel a couple of months ago that I was busy doing some stuff. Not that easy to run me off for good...yet. Thanks Carl! Like the bonfire. OT sees a witch.

  27. Thanks Dave.... imho I think it's importat to find a shop that specializes in the make of car you own......and to find someone that won't B.S. you..... There are a lot of thinks I know and a lot I don't..... I had a tow in a few weeks ago from another shop. The shop is a good shop but does mostly European cars....They had the car for two days and through the towl in.....I had it figured out and running/fixed in less than a hour...... was a loose/bad ground, I just knew where to look. I have few customers that do alot of there own work.....I'll give them pointers and sell some parts and for the big jobs they can't handle we'll work out a "cash" price. This cash helps my audio addiction......... MKP :-)

  28. I checked the air in my tires today and found 2 specs of dirt on the Buick so I added air and knocked off the dirt. I couldn't remember the last time I cranked it so I cranked her up and put a few miles on the odometer. Back in the garage I noticed the odometer was up to 8,414 miles. Pretty high for 5 years this month.

  30. Oops, I assumed the Lions wouldn't play today due to the game on Thursday. I was wrong. Assumptions are dangerous. The Lions played and beat the Jaguars 26 - 19. Next up the Vikings on Thanksgiving. The local convenience store is open on Thanksgiving. I asked the owner why they're open, he said, "If the Lions win, we'll sell more beer. If the Lions lose, we'll sell more beer."

  31. The 8 O'Clock went down smoothly. After a balmy 70 on Friday, with snow yesterday, it's 36 and clear today in Southeast Michigan. Since the Lions play on Thursday, no local interest game today. Happy weekend and Happy Thanksgiving. Let those you love know you're grateful they're in your life.

  33. Amp is set at 2V output, 1kHz signal first (top) montage is current (mA) sourced by the amp into a no-shunt autoformer loaded by Klipschorn mid as taps are changed from -3 to -12dB. Second montage is same 2V amplifier settings at 1kHz but with 10 Ohm shunt across input side. With the shunt across the input side the bulk of current sourced by the amplifier goes thru the shunt regardless of what the taps are doing. That said, that's the point of the "swamping" resistor. It makes the impedance somewhat less sensitive to changing the taps because the impedance load presented to the filter is largely determined by the current draw thru the shunt resistor. That current data is then used to tweak a SPICE model of the circuit to, eventually, determine power. In the power calc plot, I placed a 60uF capacitor in the circuit between the amp and the shunted autoformer to provide AA type filter. It assumes the mid is on the -3dB setting. Link shows the analysis http://www.northreadingeng.com/Forums/viewforum.php?f=4

  37. Yea Dave you are correct....it's nothing for me to whip up a $1000 A/C repair. If the compressor has come apart it'll trash the system. 90% of the time if the system won't kick on and it's due to no freeon in the system the compressor is leaking. If the compressor has not locked up and has not contaminated the system just replace the compressor and the dryer and it should be good to go. You can buy a new compressor and dryer under $200....ya just gotta find someone that will suck down and recharge the system. I do not recomend the recharge kits that are sold at Walmart and parts stores. All these kits have leak stop in them....alot of shops won't work on systems that have had leakstop put in them....it'll trash the filters on a shops A/C machine. There are special filters that are made to filter this junk out.... imho leak stop is a last ditch effort.... and for parts for "do-it-yourself" RockAuto is where it's at.... I don't use Rock for my customer base. But I use them for some of my own junk..... MKP :-)

  40. The R28f are on the same level as the old KF28 and F-30 Synergy/Icon models. Lower quality materials, aluminum tweeters (vs titanium in RF82), poly woofers(vs aluminum in RF82). They lack midrange, boost treble and bass, and bass sounds a bit flabby compared to RF82. The RP280f is not a huge upgrade over RF82, simply a newer version with some refinements. Even the two older models before the RF82(the RF35 and RF3) still hold up spectacularly against the newer models. I actually prefer the RF35 over the RF82.. :-)

  41. When comparing different speakers and their relationships to results of putting them into corners, keep in mind that there is a world of difference between FULLY horn-loaded speakers and PARTIALLY horn-loaded speakers...and non-horn-loaded speakers. There is also a world of difference between speakers which have rearward-firing drivers (and drones) and those which do NOT have anything rearward-firing. The final caveat is whether the speaker was DESIGNED to be in corners, or was designed to stand along a flat wall....or is recommended for either. HORNS have almost all of the sonic energy being DIRECTED forward, literally being FUNNELED forward, whereas CONE DRIVERS don't. That is why you can stand behind, for example, an MCM 1900 system when it is cranking, and carry on a normal conversation, whereas if you were standing in front of it you could scream to your heart's content and still not be heard by someone standing right in front of you. Horn energy goes FORWARD. Cone energy tends to go outward...ie, wider dispersion...with loss of efficiency due to more width of dispersion. So, keep that in mind when you are talking about reflections and such from adjacent walls when speakers are put into corners. If your speakers have partial horn-loading, combined with cone-loading AND bass porting, there are many considerations which have to be taken for corner placement, whereas for partial horn-loading of something like a Heresy, or Cornwall....both of which are horn-loaded in the high and mid ranges, but cone-loaded for the bottom-end (with the Cornwall also being ported), the placement will be different than for partial-horn-loading in speakers whose cone drivers ALSO reach up well into the midrange. People ask a number of questions about placement, but the best answer is just to "let your ears decide". The GOAL of most loudspeaker designers has generally HISTORICALLY been to provide a loudspeaker which can ACCURATELY produce the full range of the audible spectrum, and can DO THAT using a ONE-WAY speaker. PWK came out with the K-horn system, which was able to pretty-much do that with a THREE-WAY speaker, fully-horn-loaded, but which could be put into a corner, so that it did not take up to much floor space in the room (if the bass horn was not folded, it would take up floor space of 32 feet out of each corner in order to produce an UN-CLIPPED 32hz sound-wave). His goal for the Jubilee was to do what the K-horn did, but do it even better, using a TWO-WAY speaker. IOW, he was doing his best to approach the HISTORICAL goal of getting down to just ONE POINT OF ORIGIN (one-way system) for the full musical spectrum, by "creeping up to that historical goal" by taking it from a three-way to a two-way fully horn-loaded system....from THREE points of origin, to TWO points of origin...and have it fit into a room in a house...while taking up minimum floor-space.

  45. That would be hard to believe. A company's fixed cost of production is plant, overhead, and labor. The Anniversary speakers are made in the same plant, with the same overhead and labor. Cost of materials may be more, we don't know. If so, they could actually offset the added material cost by applying a marginal cost factor to the limited product.
