  1. And it looks even better in the atrium than it does on a makeshift workbench!

  2. Whether you want to call it “climate change” or follow the earth’s evolution over eons it does seem the SW drought is for real and reaching a breaking point sooner rather than later. Phoenix, LV, LA and all points between will be in a world of hurt without steady rains and heavy snows this winter. I’m not a conspiracy theorist but the continuing wildfires, levels of Lake Mead water and pics of Hoover dam seem all too real. I don’t complain about too much rain anymore -

  4. I didn't pay attention but I carry on some of their daily traditions, with one big exception, I shower everyday. Around 1968-69 I went to California with my parents, my dad seemed to be interested in the hippie thing so we went to Haight and Ashbury to check them out. Later I figured he was just probably interested in the hippie women mostly ? It was kind of wild to see since not much of it was going on where we lived. On that trip I tried Chinese food for the first time in Chinatown, my dad thought my mom was trying to kill him with that strange stuff.

  8. I bought some northern Crotch Walnut slabs recently that have been dried properly. One of the things I wanted to see was how dense the northern wood was compared to the Tennessee wood. I am pretty amazed at the patterns you can get and just now starting to cut fancy pattern wood. One of my conclusions was the engraving on the top kind of breaks up the wood pattern and so for a while I am cutting these without the engraving. Bottom two pics have Watco Rejuvenating Oil on them and the top two pics are bare wood. Yes before someone asks the shoulder at the clamp plate goes away when I loosen the screws and move the clamp plate. It is late and a long day and it is what it is. The more I play with wood the more it excites me with the never ending variety.😁 Or when you cut into something you cant see from the outside that trashes it.😬

  9. This is my refurbished pair of spatter paint Heresy speakers along with a small stand I built for a Tascam CD-200 BT disc player/Bluetooth and an early 1970's Sony STR-7045 receiver. I veneered the speakers in white oak veneer, as well as the CD player box, but I used red oak for the stand legs. All pieces are finished with Tru-Oil. I'm very pleased with the results, sonically and visually. At some point I'll duck the Apple TV HDMI cable in the wall. Both the speakers and the stand have adjustable height legs to compensate for the bluestone floor which was laid on an outdoor concrete slab patio, pitched downhill to the left.

  11. yes that price is rather high, almost double what average to good condition cf4 sell for. not quite sure either what the comparison above is about... H3 are apples to the cf4 watermelons in sound & size. there is some mystique & rarity to the big epics & they are a great all around speaker for music or movie use. best of luck in your search.

  14. They really need some rain, I don't know if it's a management problem or poor planing but it seems they are either in a bad drought and going to run out of water or it's to the point of breaking dams or levees and flooding large areas. I remember a forum member who lived out there and had friends who were farmer's and there was always a fight for water, much of it went to Las Vegas because of $. Who knows but It looks like they need to figure a way to desalinate sea water unless it to expensive, or something to feed the citys to take a load off of the reservoirs ? And right up the coast is one of the rainest citys on the west coast, you can't change weather, better figure out how to manage what you have.

  16. Out there the Forestry Service kept up with things very well until the martians told them they couldn't do their jobs. Other places where the forests are nurtured and maintained from learned science do not have wildfires like that.

  17. @RandyH I can tell you one thing NWS has some bad records. Looked up HUGO in Charlotte in `89 and it said we got 3. something inches of rain. YEA.... RIGHT I recall the totals being between two feet and 30 inches for that about eight hours it took from TS hitting until TS leaving with the leading eyewall of the hurricane hitting me at twenty until 8am that morning. When I get moved I'll find and check my newspapers from the following week and see if I can find the correct amount.

  20. Greetings and Salutations, I'm considering selling my Palladium set up and I was wondering if there is any interest/appetite for them. My Wife and I absolutely love the sound and look of them, but we are looking to buy or build a smaller home and so I'm considering downsizing my HT setup or going completely in-wall with either KEF, Dali, or the new Focal Utopia in-wall line. My setup consists of the following (all Merlot finish)... Three (3) P38-F's floorstanders (I was originally going to have a matching sound stage across the front. That didn't work out so one of the three is completely un-used in its original carton). One (1) P27-C center channel. Two (2) P312-W subwoofers. (I also have a spare Amp, Driver, and Passive Radiator, all OEM, which would be included.) I have no kids, no pets, we don't smoke, and we only ever have time to use them on weekends so the speakers are all in absolutely amazing condition. All have their original boxes, packing materials, accessories, and even the Klipsch badges are still in place, the badges on the towers are good as new, and the badge on the center is very good (pic added below). One of the P38's was only ever taken out of its carton for inspection when it was first delivered, since then it has rested comfortable in its box. I would only be interested in selling if I could move everything, so I would only part it out if I had buyers for all pieces. I also have a pair of CDT-5800-C II's that would be available as well as a Marantz SR6006 and an older Rotel amp (don't recall the model but it's 100x5@8ohms and 200x5@4ohms)...figured I would mention these pieces too at the same time. Again, just trying to see if there if there's enough interest to be worth selling them, and I would probably be asking close to market value for them based on the condition and current rarity. Oh, and I should also mention I'm located in South Jersey, roughly 40 minutes outside of center city Philadelphia, and would prefer not to ship. So for price, I'm looking for... P38F's - $9,000 (for all three) P27C - $2000 P312W's - $4000 (includes all spare parts...would like to see these go together as it makes distributing the parts easier) So that's $15K for all of it and I'll throw in the pair of CDT-5800-C II's if someone takes all of it. The Marantz receiver and Rotel amp could be negotiable too if it sweetens the deal any. As I said earlier, I'd only part things out if I had buyers for everything (does me no good to be stuck with a single P38 or Sub). Additional pics, or video of them playing are available upon request. Regards, BlueJester

  21. I have a pair of 1984 first gen KG4's (even though they are listed as starting production in 1985, the labels on the back say 1984). I never liked these speakers! They sounded very harsh and edgy, yet yielded a very good sound stage, but they just fatigued my ears. Five years ago I read on one of the Klipsch forums about Bob Crites having designed and contracted a fabricator to make a titanium replacement for the phenolic horn drivers showing scope readings of a virtually, very flat response on supposedly sounding much smoother and liquid. For about $50 I ordered the pair and swapped them in and everything that people were saying was true. Very smooth, open, and airy, but without the jagged harshness. It was like listening to a completely different speaker -- one I fell in love with and became my main speakers. A couple of weeks ago, I read about the capacitors loosing their life around the 20 year mark and it hit me that the caps in my 1984 KG4's are now 31 years old. When back to Bob Crites' website and for $100 I could send him the original networks for a cap replacement, or for $200 I could receive new networks with all upgraded materials including new chokes, etc. -- I opted for the latter. I ended up removing all of the old “stacked-up” networks of this first gen that had everything glued up in a pile on the back of the input panel – turns out that the choke and transformer? (coiled bobbin) just popped off the plastic input back panel by prying a flat head underneath them and giving a little twist, removed the 3 screws, popped off the one cap that was glued, and cut the wires to the terminals. Then new network board fits on the wood floor of the bottom of the cabinet attached with velcro. After I finished wiring the first cab, I decided to do an A/B comparison between your network and the original 31 year old network. I conducted a very good test condition by putting on a mono LP, The Kingston Trio, and threw the balance knob Left/Right to compare them back and forth… let me tell you something, it was a dramatic difference! The old network sounded like the banjo was being played underneath a quilt. So, even though the speaker cab with the new network sounded brighter, and more open and airy, I would say it wasn’t adding anything, but simply allowing what was naturally in the recording to come through, whereas, the 31 year old network was not allowing all the highs to pass through to the horn. When I listened to the speaker cab that still had the original network, it was a kin to turning the treble control about 3/4’s the way down. As far as the bass, I’m not sure if it’s in my head or not, but it sounded a little tighter – just as strong as before, but with a little less resonance. Once again, Bob Crites has amazed me with his quality designs and engineering. I now have the ultimate KG4’s with Crites’ titanium horn drivers and upgraded, new networks! BTW, they are works of art just to look at (see before and after pics). And because the new networks are mounted on new cedar boards, they smell good too! I’ll never have to worry about moths in my speaker cabs I'm sure all of you know about Bob's Klipsch upgrades and maintenance services, but just in case you don't: www.critesspeakers.com Original 1984 network: New Bob Crites network:

  22. Hello, I am new to this community and hope I'm posting in the right sub-forum; apologies if this is an inappropriate place for my query. I just bought some (new) RP-600Ms to begin the process of upgrading my rather low-end surround/2-channel world. They are connected in an LR configuration to a Yamaha TSR-5830 (which I understand is a rebranded RX-V585). Nothing else is connected currently. (Before buying the RP-600M speakers I was using wired Mirage satellites and the MM-6 subwoofer.) Although not planning to stick with this amp long term, I thought it would be safe to use it initially. Yet I'm finding a nasty buzzing clipping noise as I turn up the volume, at around -20dB on the amp (not sure if that means anything in this context). Audio is at a listenable volume, but far from loud, when this happens. Also, the amp doesn't seem to be running hot or distorting the audio across the spectrum of content. The speakers just sound quiet and as I carefully crank up the volume they start to emit a buzzing sound, I think from the tweeters. Then I turn it down. The amp is set up for 8 Ohm speakers by default (confirmed this in the setup UI) and claims 80W power output per channel. I've seen recommendations for using lower-powered amps than this with the RP-600Ms. Is there anything about this setup that means I should expect clipping/buzzing/distorted sounds from it? I've seen mentions on the internet of people pairing this amp with these speakers, and the ratings seem to match, but I am far from an expert and so suspecting some kind of mismatch or else the speakers arrived damaged in some way (seems very unlikely). Thanks for any insights. In particular, wondering if the symptoms sound like a classic component mismatch to those more knowledgeable than me?

  23. Indeed...indeed!!!! I'm not sure that work would appreciate me driving in on top of my industrial backhoe/loader..... though it would guarantee I could always get any parking spot I wanted..... I could move them or lift them and roll them over. (not that this has EVER crossed my mind, I'm speaking for a friend who once mentioned it)

  33. I bought the factory wrapped panels as seen in the picture, but you can save a bunch of money if you order the Owens-Corning 700 series rigid fiberglass boards from your local hardware store and the fabric from Guilford of Maine, or AcousticalSurfaces.com, or the fabric aisle in some local craft stores. On my panels, it looks like they first sprayed the edges of the fiberglass panels with a coat of contact cement that was allowed to dry, creating stiff corners, then sprayed again with contact cement to adhere the fabric wrap.

  34. I'd only hope he'd had a chance to hear the "Fives" as they are indeed the most remarkable small bookshelf speakers I've ever heard. Been an audiophile since the late 60's and worked for a number of high end audio dealers along the way. They continue to amaze me with their definition and imaging. Coupled with a SW100 sub and you're THERE!

  39. My K-horns are stock with the exception of Crites crossovers. If I wanted to bring the sound closer to my basement system I would time align the horns. The clarity that added to my basement system was profound. Second would be replacing the mid horns.
