  4. I wanted to share some pictures with those here who enjoy viewing music rooms with great equipment. The pictures were taken during our visit with some dear friends who truly love sharing their music through their Klipsch Collection as well as sharing some of the most enjoyable meals a person could experience. miketn 🙂 This is their Underground Jubilee clones with retro equipment collection that they restore and enjoy in all their systems. Heritage Jubilee in their living room with McIntosh MC30s and a Custom 45 single ended tube amplifiers. Theater Room which can be switched between Home Theater duty as well as 2-channel Music with again his custom built Tube Preamplifier and 300B Amplifiers. Heritage Jubilee and UG Jubilees for surround and center duty with a KPT-1802-HLS sub as well. Pictures just cannot do justice to these Klipschorn AK6 “Teak with Lambs Wool” which serve as a bedroom system again driven with great tube equipment he has restored.

  8. Funny, I never considered myself such a person. But maybe I am? There´s a lot of music that I find interesting, and I want it to sound right. That´s why I bother with heavy stereo-components, vintage and new and big, wooden and heavy boxes that make noise – which I consider good too excellent. Yes, it seems I exhibit nerdy sings... 🤔😉

  15. The brick and that one wall submerged into the ground with the 6 or 8 ft outcroppings on the front and the back is all dry and I couldn't find a single crack anywhere. I can see what looks like electric lines on the left side of the pic but I don't recall seeing any going up to the house or the meter is on the back. It looks like it comes up from under. All that is good and it's 1018 ft with .8x acres of rock and mostly deciduous trees. I'll be working on getting evergreens in there within a couple years, but right now it's the basics. With the kitchen /den and one bedroom being the same type of snap together Pergo type flooring I'm going to try to match that. Music area is small, so the Forte IIIs plus the two subs might be a bit much. Maybe opening the windows will make it work well!

  18. The size, of the 4, should be selected by output and performance. There is not a recommended La Scala match, but I'll pick Large. You will not want or need additional subwoofers for any reason. If I were you, I'd replace any direct radiator subwoofers you have with these. They are easily special effects capable. You will not regret it! We were given impressive response curves and told a lot about the physics of the subs, that i won't discuss. The Medium goes deep enough for any music, the Large should cover most LFE effects, if not all and the XL is likely brown note capable. 😆 Choose the additional subs for the max dB output you require. They are powered, so you will not need an additional amp. The amplifier power is surprisingly low and the embedded amp allows some control of distortion. We were not given a release date, but speculation was not before Spring/Summer '24. You have plenty of time to try to time the Market. This is the Large.

  20. Never thought of a bandshell @billybob but you could be onto something. Got my mugga and loading up. About 64 today "they" say and the suns out so you know where I'm heading. Kid next door put his Xmas Santa blow up and the Christmas lights on his house so tht tell ya anything? He hasn't raked a leaf out for the city boys this year. Two big maples out front and 2 40' oaks out back headed my way. Robin Hood across the street has 7 40' oaks and a hickory tree that are half off. Not looking good for the home team. Thinking about going stealth mode and taking my trusty old Randall Model 1 knife to Santa next door. Then calling the tree guys to drop some of the oaks while Robin Hood is down in Panama this winter. Twenty years here and they're still untouched and growing. Astroturf? Maybe I can find a place in Virginia like some other lucky dude I know.

  21. Thanks bud, I could actually have coffee in my boxers out there if it wasn't cold like it is. My grill and table too, won't need the big patio umbrella for shade until I get that possibly threatening tree out. There's no boulevard below it or city side streets. It's quiet. It's high above the lake and I'm serious, it's beautiful less than a minute's walk downhill from my driveway, but that's where the 3000 ft² and up homes are.

  24. @Travis In Austin Harbs was Bo's starting QB as well as Brady. Jim's dad Jack grew up 11 miles from me and was a great baller. Jack coached college football after a stellar local high school career. Then was Bo's Defensive linebacker coach for 10 years or so. John, Jim's brother, is the Head Coach of the Ravens. Joani, their sister is married to Toam Crean the former IU hoops coach. So ya wanna go a lil bit deeper into my local boys? Hit Mike & Mark Gottfried and Gates Brown and you've got a wrecking crew. Eyeball em on wiki. The last time I got together with them all was at a wake for Gates held in Crestline, Ohio. Gates passed from diabetes and his sister worked for me so I got an invite to come over. Gates never really had much money but he spent his entire 12-year MLB career playing for the Detroit Tigers so the fund raising auction we had was just crazy nuts. Tom Brady game worn helmets signed, pics, card, jerseys, Michigian stuff, ESPN stuff just tons of everything and we made close to 50k$ for Gates sister and family to help w/expenses. This was in 2013 when Jimbo left San Francisco and took the Head Coaching job @ Michigan. His dad and I were just shooting the bull and outta no where I asked him when Jim was gonna announce he took the Michigan job? I really didn't have a clue but figured Michigan would be looking that year. Jack never said a word because his face told the story. lolol EVERY pro baller has a story (the youtube version) and here's one from Gates I'll never forget.

  29. Hiya Paul, it's going to be a challenge. The den is not very big. The space and the thousand square footer isn't in the bedrooms either. The kitchen is a little oversized but it connects with the den so that can help even things out. But the pantry with the washer, dryer and hot water heater is pretty big. So I hope I can get it to sound good with the rug and the upholstered furniture in there or else I'll have to start messing with those funky things to put on the wall and the ceiling. So that's it. I'm done with the OT in here.

  30. Only been 11 hours since I got up but I tell you what I'm tired. Agreeing to spend all that money wore me out, the survey will be done within 10 days. Mid-grade paint at Sherwin-Williams is 80 freaking dollars a gallon if I buy 5 gallon bucket the girl in there told me they'll give me a dollar off each gallon if I buy 5 gallon bucket. Fa, fa, fa, fagetaboutit Sherwin Williams. I found a place to get Benjamin Moore so I will use the best paint ever made for less than your charging and you can cancel my account.

  31. Years ago, PWK published some papers on his measurements of amplitude and frequency modulation distortion in loudspeakers and described the resulting sound characteristics of each type. He also described the effect of increased levels of audible distortion in loudspeakers as having a masking effect, resulting in a loss of clarity. He called it the “Mud Index” and proposed ranking speakers on a scale based on their Modulation Distortion measurements. Speakers with higher levels of M.D. would score worse in the mud index. As to the new Klipsch subwoofers, There ain’t no mud to be found, even when loud!!!

  32. I finally had some time to report on SubFest. It was another enjoyable class/demo put on by Klipsch Chief Bonehead Roy Delgado and others. The first half day on Friday consisted of Roy talking about the idea behind the new subs based on the horn-loaded vented system first used in the KPT-1802-HLS cinema subwoofer and the Heritage Jubilee. If you are unaware, the horn-loaded vented system is unique in that both the driver and the ports in the woofer enclosure fire into the folder horn, stacking the efficiency advantages of both vented and horn-loaded system. He discussed what he learned from designing those products and what new things he learned designing these new subs. There was lots of Q&A. The others session that day was a historical look at Paul Klipsch’s quest for better bass when designing the original Klipschorn. This was presented by Klipsch Museum curator and general fountain of knowledge of all thing Klipsch, Jim Hunter. He went over what he found going though Paul’s letters with his “beta testers” who had the early units and reviewed what changes occurred because of those interactions. As a final capper to the day, we went over to the Klipsch Museum to hear something that no one has heard for decades, the original Klipschorn X-3 prototype with the original X-5 HF horn actually playing music. Museum members Iain Moore and Chris Hornbeck undertook a project over the last two years to restore it to operational condition. They found a compatible woofer (since the original is damaged and no one wanted to risk ruining it by attempting a repair) and got the Western Electric tweeter working. They also used Paul’s original plans for the tube amplifier that he used with the prototype and created a functional replica. Jim demoed it for us. While the HF only goes out to about 8 kHz, the speaker sounded surprisingly good. That evening we had a meal of steak fajitas and BBQ chicken at the Klipsch Museum Visitors Centers, featuring Roy’s secret fajita sauce. The second day was introductions to each of the four new sub models and demo sessions of each in the Klipsch lab listening room with Roy’s demo material. There were also alternating sessions to provide an opportunity for the attendees to listen to the Heritage Jubilee after an introduction by Klipsch Heritage Brand Ambassador Mike Dyer. In the morning we heard the two smaller subs, the “small” sub paired with the Sixes and the “medium” sub paired with the Nines. In the afternoon we heard the two larger subs, the “large” sub and the “extra-large” sub, both paired with La Scala. (If you are wondering why the front of La Scala top-hats are blacked out in the large and extra-large setup photos, let’s just say we got a tease of some upcoming things that we are not allowed to discuss or show at this time. There may be another Chief Bonehead class in the spring on this topic.) Here are the preliminary stats on the new sub models. Since these are still under development, this information is obviously subject to change. Dimensions are approximate. Small: 21”H x 32”W x 18”D, one 8” driver with one port, 27 Hz Medium: 26”H x 37”W x 21”D, one 8” driver with multiple ports, 24 Hz Large: 34”H x 42”W x 28”D, one 12” driver with multiple ports, 18 Hz Extra-large: 47”H x 45”W x 30”D, two 12” drivers with multiple ports, 14-15 Hz These are all active subs with DSP amps. There are plate amps built into the cabinet on the smaller three models. The extra-large may have the amp in a separate chassis. I guess at this point I imagine you are wondering, how do they sound? Well, in a word, excellent. These subs don’t sound like the usual direct radiator subs. They have a clean, ultra-low distortion sound that’s similar to what I hear from the Heritage Jubilee bass bin. Obviously, as they get bigger, they get better and are capable of more output and deeper low extension. They definitely dig down to the lower frequency limits listed above with ease. The only time I heard anything I didn’t like was during the small sub demo. There were points where I thought the demo setup seemed to “struggle” on the challenging parts. Whether this was the sub itself, the Sixes running out of gas on the peaks, the demo volume just too high for this setup, or something else, I can’t say. I would have liked to have heard the small sub with more capable mains so that there wouldn’t be any question. Other than that, I can highly recommend these subs. The large or extra-large sub would be a great match for La Scala or Klipschorn. These will be great additions to the Heritage line. There is no information on pricing at this point. Availability was discussed as maybe “spring”. However, given what happened with the Heritage Jubilee between the estimated dates and when they actually shipped, my guess would be that it will be longer than that. Thanks to everyone who helped make this class possible. Another great event. (Edit. I uploaded the pictures in a chronological order, but when I hit submit it shuffled them up. Anyone know how to prevent this?)

  33. We were given response curves and they are not capable of reaching the bottom of a K-402, much to the disappointment of one or two men. These things were built to be subwoofers, not small Jubilees.

  39. So do I have this right, no evidence, zero, that Head Coach of Michigan was aware of or had any involvement in sign-stealing scandal. However, because he is "the face" of the program they are going to keep him off the field on game days going into the biggest game of the season. This demands a Senate Investigation, (Gary Peters is on Commerce I think, it's their jurisdiction). Is he allowed to Zoom? Or does that go against the spirit of this whole thing? Maybe put him in the mascot suit and have the Mascot hanging around behind the bench a whole lot.

  40. There should be no need for a "rebuild". If a driver is not working it can be repaired. Test by putting you ear close to each driver to see if it's producing sound. You can test DC resistance or continuity with a volt meter. A good volt meter can detect AC voltage applied to the driver terminals to test the network, if a driver tests good, but is not playing. That same good meter can test the network components, *IF* you can disconnect enough to test it alone. Finally, if they sound recessed, laid back or "polite", consider replacing the capacitors with high quality film and foil caps as they may have gone off spec enough to affect the sound.

  41. I am selling this amp, it is wonderful with my La Scala's, but I am changing my entire system. I will be selling the La Scala's as well, switching to JBL's. I have not owned this for very long, unfortunately I bought it before I switched speakers. It is fantastic with high efficient speakers. This comes with remote. It is in excellent condition. Looking for $1750, not interested in trades. I will pick up the shipping if sold in the lower 48. I have all of the original packaging, so shipping should not be an issue. Let me know if you have any questions. More details and actual pics to follow. Please PM me if interested. Thank you.
