  5. Was thinking of upgrading from Monoprice wires and reducing my speaker wire run distance. Found a decent deal on Mogami wire and decided to try these Sewell connectors. They felt like they made a solid clamp of the wire. Made them up last evening with a martini…no issues so far.

  6. Mine is a music only system in a room dedicated to that venture. I don’t believe in dual purpose systems, but that’s a conversation for another day. I listen to just about everything. Once you have a sub dialed in, there’s no need to switch it off for any genre of music. It will do what it needs to do when called for. And nothing when it’s not. Now for movies you might want to have a different setting. The problem I have found with many systems with subwoofers is the owners think they must hear what they paid all that money for, so you “hear” the sub on every track. Those are the systems that sound better when you just turn the darn thing off.

  7. I think you are thinking of the Tangent 400. It was a Heresy 2 in taller ported box. There was a Tangent 500 too, using a passive radiator instead of ports. The later series Tangent 4000/5000 are the real sleepers. They had 4 ohm woofers and noticeably better bass as a result.

  10. Hi @AndreG. good later Tull there! Think I've said before here that I can not go too long without some Jethro Tull myself. The drive back up to VA the other day was rain and very heavy rain the whole way. Had this and then the Allman Brothers "Beginnings" playing the entire way up. Played each twice before changing because I wasn't changing CDs until I was stopped for a wreck or some other slowdown.

  12. Hi, These were my father-in-law's Klipsch KG 5.2s. They're quite sentimental to my wife as he passed a few years ago. My 20 yr old Bose 701 series IIs’ finally died, and as a woodworker, refinishing these was a no-brainer. They’ll be replacing the 701s in our living room HT system. They're the oiled walnut veneer, so I took it easy getting them down to fresh wood, removing decades old sun bleaching, scuffs, and water stains. But as I did, I became unsure if they were walnut as they became white. But after applying Rubio Monocoat , the walnut came back to life. Rubio adds a great deal of protection as it was originally designed for hardwood flooring. The pic doesn’t do it justice, as LED lighting is too harsh for capturing true wood tones. I was going to surprise her with them, but it's kinda impossible to hide two huge 54 lb speakers anywhere in our house. She was in tears. Now, as far as restoration goes, are there any particular internal components I should address: wiring, soldering, speaker seals, cabinet sealing, etc.?

  16. Nice job! I'm a big fan of washing the speaker grills. I am finishing up a refinish on a set of KG4's and I'm always amazed at how much dirt I get out when I wash them. I put them in the tub and use laundry detergent and a gentle scrub brush and give them a good wash and rinse. The grill frames are plastic, so you don't have to worry about anything warping. You can always tinker around with adding side to side bracing inside, but I've never heard any real difference in the actual sound of the speaker, only when you tap on the cabinet with your knuckle.

  17. Your choice will depend on your specific needs and preferences. You might want to consider factors such as the number of inputs and outputs you need, the receiver's power output, whether it supports 4K or 8K, and the types of audio formats it supports.

  18. Two subwoofers are always better than one. Yes, you’ll need a receiver that can process 9 channels of amplification. Just realize that some 9 channel receivers only amplify 7 channels and you’ll need a separate amplifier for the remaining 2 channels.

I hope you do keep up with your friend as I just this past summer had friends from summers oh 75-76 come visit , met my fam stayed two days and we talked non stop it was as those 40 years never happened we picked up where we left off now we talk, text at least once a month. I don’t have many OLD friends left. And music is that bridge that’s joins me back to those times. Certain songs bring back flash’s of my past in clear detail. I’ll shut up now Marvel. I do wish you the best for you and yours. Happy thanksgiving Marvel.

  28. FA means there is an Atmos module built in the top. Not worth it in my opinion. The “ceiling bounce” does virtually nothing compared to a true Atmos setup with in-ceiling or height speakers. The Reference Premiere is a step up from Reference, but truthfully if you’re used to Bose anything from Klipsch will sound significantly better. I would budget $2,000 for all speakers and $500 for the receiver. It’s a great time to buy, Klipsch has some awesome sales going on right now.

  29. In your case, I would think that you would find it well out experimentally. You don't have a direct rear wall, which the Hereseys actually need for bass reproduction, but you do have the subs. So I assume that you are primarily concerned with the stage, the spatiality and a balanced, room-filling sound - room-filling at least from your listening position. Spontaneously I had also thought that the Hereseys are a bit too close together in your drawing, maybe you actually start with an equilateral triangle where the listening distance remains the same and the speakers are further apart. That would be my starting point. From there I would try to see if it sounds too far apart or if it's just right. The way I see it: Mono recordings should still come clearly from the centre and not sound too wide and bloated. On the other hand, it shouldn't sound too compressed to the centre if it's a stereo recording. I like to use two very different types of recordings to get it "right". Of course, you have to bear in mind that everyone has their individual preferences within a certain framework. That's why my post can only be taken as a kind of general suggestion. The first type of recordings are typical 1960s Bluenote or e.g. Riverside Jazz recordings...often e.g. a saxophone from the left channel and a trumpet from the right channel. Maybe a piano and or drums from the centre or a third horn player. All instruments, no matter where they are placed, should have the same energy and the soloist from the centre should not sound broader or softer. E.g. Art Blakey "Moanin" with Lee Morgan and Benny Golson. Once I have solved this task, I take a second recording where the spatiality and the overall body of the orchestra are important. Good classical recordings, e.g. from Deutsche Grammophon or others such as Decca London or Columbia, are suitable for this. something like a piano concerto or violin concerto. But also recordings like Dark side of the moon... With both types of recordings, I can optimise the angle of the speakers to suit my taste. This is where my experience speaks for itself: it can be different for every speaker! I don't know the Heresey, but I would bet that I wouldn't aim them exactly at my face. Many speakers sound best when I can see something of the inner side walls at my listening position. For example, the small BBC LS3/5a which I love very much are only angled about 7 degrees, that's not just my impression but general knowledge over the decades. The larger BBC LS3/6 are angled more so that I can only see two fingers of the inner walls. My Underground Jubilees stand in the corners of the room and are angled at 45 degrees like a Klipschorn but less works also.. My old 1977 LaScalas are angled in such a way that I can see a good hand's width of the inside wall, so they are not angled in too much. I would assume that it might be similar with the Heresey, at least as a starting point. But that's exactly what you'll be trying out. In the end, your listening taste will decide, but perhaps I could contribute something to the start of your experiments. I wish you lots of fun and success.

  30. Equilateral triangle, speakers should be toed in aimed at you.

  31. There's no need to overthink things. Now that you've got your La Scalas in place, take some time to get accustomed to their sound, before making any changes. If and when you do make any changes, you want to improve the sound, not just change it. To be sure of that, you need to be really familiar with the sound of your Scalas as they are. Happy listening!

  34. My two cents... it sounds like the crossover may have been bypassed to use an active crossover of some sort. If just trying to get the LSII cabinets working correctly, I would make sure the LSII crossovers are hooked up correctly. A power amp should have leads going to the crossover and from there, six wires. A pair for the woofer, midrange horn/driver and tweeter horn/driver. Repeat for the other speaker (left or right).

  36. I have a Scott 222C that received the "full NOS Valves job" last year that is available for sale. I have been lurking here for some time and I know that Craig's work is well respected. My Audiogon and ebay feedback is perfect. The amp is in very nice condition with very attractive brass knobs. The tubes were all checked by Craig and are as follows: 4 12AX7 - Telefunken - test strong 2 NOS Sylvania 6GH8 - Craig installed 1 5AR4 - Made in Gt. Brittan - test strong 4 7189/EL84M's - Sovteks - Craig installed. The "full NOS Valves job" included rebuilding the power supply with new JJ caps and the addition of the full control of the output tube biasing. I can provide all of the correspondence with Craig and a full detailed invoice of the work he did on the amp. The total invoice was $423.79. I had the unit rebuilt last year and then I was promoted and relocated and it is simply just sitting at this point. I have put about 100 hours on it with a pair of Harbeth C7's since the rebuild. I can send pictures of the Scott if you are interested. I feel $625 including shipping is a fair price for a full NOS Valves rebuilt amp in this condition with the included tube selection. Thanks for looking.
