  2. Had been thinking of getting different wheels for my Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk for a while. Ordered a set of bronze Vision wheels last week for a Black Friday deal. Had them installed this evening. Unfortunately it was too dark out to get good pictures when they were done so I’ll get some tomorrow after I go to the car wash.

  5. The snow is gone , so pity , now it´s cold, wet and misty again, 34 F , no real daylight , no sunny period ...all we see is grey , not so nice . But I´m in a good mood , had a meeting with my lawyer yesterday , things will get difficult but we´re working on a mutual based solution for both parties. This is important in the interest of my children, they should have as little damage as possible under the divorce.

  7. Very bad advise based on information the OP has posted so far and simply because he is experiencing intermittent crackling and pops doesn't automatically equate to amplifier overload or overheating and he hasn't reported any overheating of the amplifier. miketn

  8. I do not understand that. It could be possible that the damage of the first amp has nothing to do with the speakers. Cornwalls are an easy load for such an amp and 30 watt should really be sufficient for the Cornwalls to play loud if you do not crank this amp too much.

  10. Well..... Not actually, but it's been cold rain all morning long and still now at lunch time. Definitely happy that the four months of living in my vehicle are almost over!! Also trying to have faith that my hateful relatives have not destroyed everything I've amassed in the previous five or so decades. Prejudice is WRONG. It does not matter what predicates it. No matter what's been laid on me, I don't believe it's from any religion either.

  18. Hi everyone. My dad passed away this summer and I'm starting to go through his estate. He bought these beautiful Klipsch speakers in 1992. They work great and are honestly in good condition. Any idea what they could go for? My mom doesn't remember the original sale price. It won't let me add more pics, but here's what the back says: FII Oak CLR #19 Grill S/N: 275290026 Thanks IMG_6719.HEIC

  19. Extremely unlikely that your amplifier is having any difficulty due to the loudspeakers. It has most likely developed an intermittent internal failure if you have isolated the problem to the amplifier versus upstream components. miketn

  20. I doubt it. I was so disappointed with the speakers on first listen right out of the box that I called the dealer to ask for my old speakers back that I traded in. He said if I felt the same way after some hours on them he would comply. I went from dismay to complete bliss with those VR4s. I’ve never heard such a drastic change. And I could have just given them back.

  27. Explain this one. New speakers don’t sound good. Leave them in a room playing 24/7 for weeks. During this time they aren’t listened to. Come back after several hundred hours and they sound very different. How did you acclimate to the speakers if you weren’t even in the same room all this time? This isn’t a hypothetical, it happened to me with Von Schweikert speakers in the mid 90s.

  29. Do not get steel wool anywhere near your horns/compression drivers. Small pieces can get pulled in via the magnet and lodge against the diaphragm. Various scotch brite finishing pads work great for application and buffing.

  38. Great to hear you are on the other side of the knee operation and it went well, Craig. Be careful not to jog more than a few miles at a time during recovery 😉. Also great to hear you’re wanting to get back to the soldering iron soon. Lord knows you’ve done a lot of work for me on a variety of gear through the years…And all top notch, first class work. Cheers to some good days ahead!

  39. The only other brand(s) I ever really considered outside of Klipsch were Altec and JBL (two sides of the same coin), particularly the vintage JBL like the Sovereign and Apollo series cabinets and similars employing the LE15/LE85-DLH175-375 midranges/077 cat's eye tweeters and other vintage horn setups of similar thinking......but ultimately when it came to the VALUE presented by the original Klipsch Heritage line of speakers, and how well those ended up being addressed in the aftermarket as well as having a pretty continuous "universal" ability to obtain service (drivers still sold by Klipsch and even Dean will build Klipsch authorized replacement networks for those line of speakers) tells me that I chose wisely and "saw the future" when deciding to invest in my Heritage cabs some 20+ years ago. While it is true that the JBL drivers are of a better class than the Heritage line used through that time, the Klipsch got more "results for the input" on the value side, and looking out into the future all those years ago told me that the Klipsch lasted longer (no surround refoams every 10 years) along with knowing that any drivers going dead otherwise would be an extreme cost that I probably could not "self insure" without brain a bank breaker in and of itself with the JBLs. It was sufficiently easy to obtain a trio of matched-driver Cornwall pairs and know that I could maintain and take care of them for a lifetime of service, and would be able to afford to "take care of them" because there were so many options in the marketplace to allow for that service to be done that the Cornwalls and Belles made sense as "life investments". Great results from affordable and common parts. There's always "better" but within the realm of "pretty damned good" and never really having to worry much about doing it all over again made it such that Klipsch was the right choice. Heritage really are "speakers for life" and the genius of the original PWK designs evident. If one kept the cabs in good shape one could completely rebuild the innards and run 'em for another 30-50 years. There's little else I could ever say that about any other product in ANY category, let alone audio, so I know I made the right choice. I literally wore out the first HT kit that drove those Cornwalls but the speakers are still here with a newer Mac core running the show. Took almost 20 years to wear out an amp but I found a way......tens of thousands of hours.....but the Cornwalls are still "The Speaker Of The House". Can't justify moving the beasts for anything else.

  40. I get the impression that we are overwhelming the OP with all our well-intentioned tips, providing information that doesn't quite align with what he states in his opening post. "The vocals are not forward and magical as they used to be. The sound stage is great. But it almost feels a bit too clinical and lacks some warmth. And yes the low end of the bass also is bothering me"

  41. What you heard is not indicative of the CW IV. Not even close. But they do take quite a few hours to break in. I heard the original lascalas years ago in two different rooms. The first time I was pretty impressed. My buddy bought the pair but never could recreate that magic in his room. I owned CW IIs and much later the IVs. Huge difference in performance. I now own LS IIs and from memory they are better than earlier versions. They directly replaced the Cornwall IVs, so I know it was an upgrade there. Not huge, but still worth the cost and effort to me. Actually the cost was zero since I sold the cornwalls for the same money I bought the LS II for. What I guess I'm saying is that if it's between the original lascalas and the CW IV, the choice becomes less clear for me. The CW IV is that good. I would suggest trying to hear a pair with at least a couple hundred hours on them in a good room. And if you are lucky, try to score a pair of LS IIs. They don't seem to come around very often though.

  42. Big breath….again….Mr K never understood the difference between home speakers and commercial. He told me that it should not matter what you have hooked up to the speaker….a turntable or a band….the speaker should faithfully reproduce the input signal.

  48. think the BLO would bring out some of the Amber color? I have alot of veneer chips to fix and the guy I got them from smashed the lower rear corners on both so that's being fixed now. at least the cabinets are solid and the drivers are original. I will test the BLO on the bottom and see how that looks. +1 on burning the rags.

  49. Well I spent a little time stripping one cabinet to the raw birch, there is some repairs I was able to do to the veneer that was missing. Now I’m just deciding what to do as far as a finish. There is still some areas with slivers of dark stain in the wood doubt I can sand those out. May just hit them with oil but have given some though to amber shellac. You can see where I was experimenting with getting rid of the stain in the grill, my mother in law gave me a good recipe for a gentle cleaner that works great. Much more to do before they are clean. Any finish Ideas for these? Was hoping to get them close to where they originally were.
