  1. Can we get something corrected here? Dean is not the authorized dealer for Klipsch capacitors. Dean is authorized by Klipsch to build new vintage Klipsch balancing networks to Klipsch specifications. Dean also installs new capacitors in some of the vintage speakers that use pc board networks. My company, JEM Performance Audio, is authorized by Klipsch to offer replacement capacitor kits for the vintage Heritage speakers. I also install the kits if need be in the hard wired networks. Dean and I offer services that keep the vintage Heritage speakers operating as Klipsch intended. These arguments about capacitors here on the forum are ridiculous. We have available the correct parts to build and service Klipsch vintage balancing networks and yet we have those that insist on nit-picking 40+ year old capacitor specifications. Those capacitors are old, they are degrading and who cares how much life is left in them? If you want your speaker operating at peak performance, replace the capacitors with the genuine replacement part and your speaker will sound as it was intended to sound for another 40 years. The kits are not that expensive and once installed, you probably won't have to worry about them again in your lifetime. Why wait for the inevitable degrading that is already taking place to get worse? I think some common sense is in order.

  4. Thanks all. It’s very helpful. It’s not overheating. It actually improves the longer it’s in use. I’ll try and find someone to check the amp out. Like you say the main thing is the speakers are ok. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 i will swap the amps around. I have another Sugden in my DJ room. That one is brand new. The other was secondhand but from a reputable dealer. i really appreciate your help.

  5. Close! Pete Drake was using it in 1964,but Frampton was in Abbey Road Studios, sitting in on some George Harrison sessions and Pete Drake was there. Bob Heil had versions and gave one to Frampton later in '74. It had a 100 watt driver in it. Heil's version has become the most well known version.

  6. Rain most of the day here in Duckburg but the temps are in the mid 40's, which is better than the beginning of the week. It is what it is I guess. Oldest stopped in and put a handy dandy new seal on the French doors today. Guess my days of box tape are over. We'll see how this unfolds but they're made by 3-M and she found the stuff on Amazon. 2 rolls for $6 and it took almost all of both rolls. A semi-thick 3" piece of plastic w/about an inch of the side taped. She said you can supposedly open and close the doors w/o the seal breaking or loosening. No need to open them in the winter anyway so we'll see how it shakes out. Wonder where she gets that craftiness from? lol

  9. Lets all just leave the capacitor discussions behind us, at least in my thread. I've showed measurements, asked for and got the advice i was looking for. For now i'm leaving my caps where they are, and who knows perhaps in the future i'll replace them. thank you @Deang @henry4841 @OO1 for your opinions and insights, these were very instructive! Don't worry though, i have lots of other questions at hand, so time enough to discuss other specifics of these magnificent speakers 😇 next up, veneering!

  14. I've had Klipsch mostly for 40+ years, my Klipsch lasted because of my ability to repair and change them, thanks to this forum. But as time moves on, the forum moves on and I have moved on from Klipsch. Over time I've moved to Sonus Faber bookshelf speakers, amazing sound, with twin Velodyne DD10. Other Sonus Faber coming eventually. As some have stated above, if you don't give other speakers a shot you don't know what you don't know. Enjoy the music!

  15. I am also 48 fwiw. Reading here I think many members have tried many different brands and found Klipsch to be their favorite. Or at least near the top. In the past 7 years I've owned the following speakers: Thiel 3.5 KEF R300 ATC SCM 11 v2 Harbeth SHL5+XD Dynaudio Special 40s Triangle Magellan Duettos B&W 804N B&W 803S B&W CDM 1nt (Still own these in a bedroom setup) B&W CM1s2 B&W 602s2 B&W CDM7SE Heresy IV (only sold because I preferred the Forte IV and I did not have another room they fit) KLH Model 5 (current re-issue). NHT SuperOne 2.1 Forte IV (current main speakers). I may be forgetting a pair in there somewhere. I'm a Klipsch fan because no speaker in all of those came close to providing the joy and listening experience I get from the Forte IV (in particular paired with my Cary SLI-80 tube amp). My second favorite speaker from that list was the Heresy IV. The funnest speaker from this list was the KLH 5. Just made me want to pull out album after album all night long. Don't presume that people here have only heard Klipsch speakers. The Harbeth had the best sweet sweet midrange I've yet heard. If I only listened to acoustic jazz I would have stuck with them. But they were terrible with hard rock music. The Triangles had the most detail I've heard and in some ways were the best speakers for about 45 minutes. However they were way, way too bright and very fatiguing. So in some ways they were also the worst speaker because they weren't fun to listen to. But the Fortes are the king for me because I'm a rocker at heart. Love classic metal. Thin LIzzy, UFO, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and such bands I love so much. No speaker delivers that sound for me like the Fortes. The gut punch bass. The Fortes have 1 slight weakness that I don't even care about. Vocals are a bit recessed. But they do everything else very well. Pick a category of sound and they are at least an 8 out of 10 to my ears. They also have a big sound. And I didn't really understand how much I like a big sounding speaker until I owned the Fortes. But something that just fills the room and envelopes you in sound is just a great listening experience. For that reason I'm curious about the Cornwall IV at some point. But I'm pretty sure I prefer the punchy bass of the Forte more, even without hearing the CW. I've been told that if I like the sound of Heritage to try some vintage Altecs. But those speakers are massive and hideous looking to my eyes. The Volti Razz has been described as a more refined Forte. But I find the Forte to be a refined speaker in it's own right. The audiophile journey can be an endless never satisfying journey. Always searching for the next sound. Always finding some flaw in the system that needs an upgrade to correct. That journey ended when I paired my Cary amp with the Fortes. It's been said to me I'll get itchy and change things. But I'm going on 2 years with this combo and nothing I've heard at home for any length of time compares. I am swept away on a musical journey daily with this system. I am a Klipsch fan because they are a refined, resolving speaker that makes me feel like the artist is in the room with me performing. I don't listen to the Rolling stones on my hifi, I hang out with them in my room.

  17. I didn’t start with Klipsch speakers. I’m not an audiophile either. I just like my music to sound like it does live and Klipsch does the best job of that out of all the other brands I have tried. I’ve had quite a few speakers from Klipsch, and I’ve liked all of them.

  18. To answer the question "Ever try moving away from Klipsch speakers?" The answer is yes. I'm glad I did... more on this later. If you haven't listened to other speakers produced by other manufacturers, then you are missing out on a lot of what the audio world has to offer. To me, that's part of what I love about the wonderful world of audio, that exciting feeling of exploring what else is out there. Striving to improve your listening experience! Comparing one speaker to another, pairing a set of great amps against each other to see which one your ears tell you is more pleasing, etc. It's like only trying a cheese pizza... sure, you might think it's love at first bite, as you sink your chompers into the warm flavorful combination of flaky crust combined with a luscious tomato sauce topped with stringy mozzarella cheese, but what do you have to compare it to? If you've never had it with any other toppings, like sausage, pepperoni, olives, garlic, etc. then how do you know that your cheese pizza is the best for you? It's almost a "must" to get out there and try other combinations. Who knows, you may decide that your first love is what you find yourself returning to, but you owe it to yourself to get out there and explore the wonderful world of audio! To say that Klipsch is the only speaker you'll ever listen to is very narrow minded. I understand brand loyalty and the cult like following some people have with different speaker manufacturers, but to say they will never even consider something else is downright foolish. I am 48 years old and have been wowed with electronics, speakers, and music since I was in grade school. I tipped over my brothers old Jensen speaker, lifted it a couple inches off the ground after placing it in the corner of our basement, connected it to our Peavey Pacer guitar amp and fed it a signal from my old Panasonic boom box to make it my first ever subwoofer! Yikes! Yes, I have come a long way since then, but I've always been curious about speaker design. I have tried many speakers over the years, as I like to purchase speakers in need of a little TLC, restore/refinish them, and then compare them to my speakers I currently own. Then, I decide if they bump one from my current lineup, or go on their way for someone else to enjoy. This allowed me to try many different speakers over the years. Now being a teacher, I'm on a limited budget, so I can't speak to any fancy $$ speakers out there, but I have to say Klipsch has the most bang for the buck! However, for my ears, the ones I own and have tried are not necessarily the best overall sounding speakers to listen to. For example, I did an A/B comparison with my RF7 II's compared with my set of Focal Chorus V's. (Both paired with my dual 15" subs) The Focal's stomped all over the RF7's when it came to detail in the upper frequencies! However, if I was looking for a speaker to crank and stand alone without any subs, then I would for sure choose the RF7's. I guess what I'm saying in a rather long winded attempt, is that there is a speaker out there for every purpose and for every person. Have fun an explore what the audio industry has to offer. Go out on a limb and try something you normally wouldn't ever listen to, who knows, you may just find a new love of your audio life!

  22. I doubt it. I was so disappointed with the speakers on first listen right out of the box that I called the dealer to ask for my old speakers back that I traded in. He said if I felt the same way after some hours on them he would comply. I went from dismay to complete bliss with those VR4s. I’ve never heard such a drastic change. And I could have just given them back.

  30. Interesting subject and I liked a lot of the comments in here. I started with some infinities with these skinny foil slits for tweeters and almost transparent woofers. I had heard Klipschorns but being 14 I had to have something. Next had some 501s not button fly but with the rudder you could twist on one corner. At 4 ohms they put out more sound than the infinity bookshelves did. I got two more a couple years later. Then I heard a pair of Heresy IIs in a studio apartment. That was 1990 I ordered my Heresy IIs put them in the main listening area with the other four speakers throughout the house. You probably guessed what the next move was that was moving down to one pair of much better speakers. Used those for 30 years then made the slight jump to the Forte III. Been without them for too long but will have them back in operation soon and my question to resolve will be with one sub or two?

  32. Perhaps but I like to try new speakers and read about the 40s for quite a while so I really wanted to own them. I've realized the past 2 weeks that for some reason the Yamaha a-s1200 is just a terrible amp for the 40s. I find this very surprising as the Yamaha A-s801 was a pretty good pairing for them. I like the 40s a lot when paired right but they are not nearly as enjoyable as the Heresy despite doing some things better. There's a very real chance I will drive 6 hours home and back to get my Fortes for the next 4 months. Life's too short to live without Fortes.

  33. I bought one of the MC275 clones Jan of this year 2023, and absolutely LOVE it! I replaced the EH tubes that it came with, with high quality KR Audio KT88 tubes and NOS Telefunken ECC801S and Tesla E83CC tubes and it actually sounds better than a real MC275 with factory tubes! I currently own a real Mcintosh amplifier, and have owned a Mcintosh MC275 in the past. The transformers are different than the original Mac transformers the Chifi transformers have 16 layers and the Mac's have 12. The only issue I have had with the clone is the green diodes that light the small tubes have quit working. Now the original Mac the diodes serve a function, they turn from amber to green to notify the user that the amp is "ready". This amp the green diodes are purely cosmetic and serve absolutely no function. I actually was glad when they all failed, because I think the amplifier looks better without them! Other than this, the amplifier has performed flawlessly. Anyone wanting that Mac "tube" sound should really consider this option, as it will literally save thousands of dollars. Best Robert

But I´m in a good mood , had a meeting with my lawyer yesterday , things will get difficult but we´re working on a mutual based solution for both parties. This is important in the interest of my children, they should have as little damage as possible under the divorce.

  38. I enjoy having other brands too. I have 5-6 pairs now and I hope to have a larger collection at some point. Each speaker has a different attitude and suits a different mood. If I'm wanting to sit alone in the dark, in a small room with a glass of wine and some softer, delicate music, the Infinity Kappa 6 are my preference. If I'm in a spunky mood and having whiskey with a game of pool and blues, the Heresy are my taste. If I want to throw in a concert bluray and feel like I'm in a stadium with a cold beer, Khorns!!! I'll let you all know what drink goes with the Polks.... LOL

  41. For those of you struggling with sugar diabetes, a story. I've retired from full time engineering work about 6 months ago. Devoting a ton of time to amplifier design. One health issue that's always hassled me was blood sugar levels, A1C numbers hovering between 6.1-6.3%. Wasn't obese but always in the 25-27 BMI range. I'm 65y/o. I don't want to get T2D, it effects vision, hearing and motor function not to mention hammers the immune system. About two years ago, I went practically no carb. And, after about 6 months of that. dropped 30 lbs. In my little world, no carb means no pasta, no rice, no grains, no breads, no sugar and no to most fruits. For many people it's very restrictive and given this stuff's in everything, difficult. For me it was an experiment. Basically, when you come to the realization that white bread or whole wheat bread or brown rice or heart healthy plain oatmeal all turn into a gelatinous, sugar-rich "mass" in your gut, you start to get the picture. And don't take my word for it, just get a BG pin prick monitor and measure the results after eating say a cup of plain, "heart healthy" oatmeal with a bit of cinnamon and 1/2 a banana. There's NOTHING healthy about a spike from 102 before to 155 after, it's damaging and boosting the average BG levels. Not good. After about 18 months (15 Oct 2022) of no-carb living my A1C was 6.0, a small trend towards better but nothing to get excited about. Hence, no-carb was only part of the solution. I was eating lots of meats, vegetables, nuts (I'd even strip all the cheese and toppings off pizza and toss the pie!). Greasy stuff, except for processed meats are ok however. New strategy was needed. With a BMI of 22.5 thanks to no carb and a good EKG, in July I started running each and every day. First just to the end of the street, then a wee-bit more until about three months ago I was able to jog about 3mi each morning. Today, I can run at full stride over the same route. Many changes occur in the body, it transforms. Last week, I had a physical so some data share: The takeaway for me was it took three changes to get to a normal A1C 1. No-Carb enables weight loss 2. Weight loss enables running 3. Running lowers average BG levels Even today, my 12h fasting BG isn't great at 115 BUT after a run it drops to low 90s which, averages out to good A1C numbers (A1C is a 3 month average). That all said, there's hope if you want to reverse the trends. It's no easy but if I can do it, any clown can.

  42. A few people here know me, though many do not, as I have been a sporadic poster since the early years of the forum. My perspective on this is as follows: Years ago, there was a prevalent viewpoint among many forum members that Klipsch had not maintained its focus on the heritage models, limited R&D investment, few updates, just continuing to build each of these models as they had been for many years. The company’s focus was on other product lines that it had created for market segments that were growing. The first several years of the forum were like “ Must See TV” that you would tune in for daily, as the collection of members was quite knowledgeable, passionate, and opinionated. I learned a great deal from many of the members who participated in the lengthy debates and discussions as they occurred. Some of that forum activity back then revolved around what could or should be done to bring vintage Klipsch speakers up to something like “state of the art” performance. Rightly or wrongly, these debates spilled over into what should be considered for current production Heritage models. Back then, the forum was wide open, like the Wild West. In my view, many of these forum conversations came to exist because there was little confidence at that time that Klipsch would actually undertake the effort to update the existing Heritage models. This probably played a role in the development of a cottage industry to support the experiments that some enthusiasts were engaging in to modify their own speakers. What actually happened in recent years is truly remarkable... Every single model of Heritage has been thoroughly updated with excellent acoustical results. The Cornwall and the Forte were brought back to market and are better than ever. The Jubilee, a long-shot dream if there ever was one is now a reality. Truly amazing! If you haven’t heard it yet, you owe it to yourself to do so. The point I am making is that the categories of discussions that are now closed don’t seem relevant as they once were, I much prefer seeing Klipsch step up to the plate and hit it out of the park with the advances in their Heritage products than revisiting the past when we were lamenting the lack of attention to these same models. Kudos to Roy Delgado, Klipsch and the Corporate leadership for getting it right. With much respect, Bill

One passive has the dust cup dented in, I haven't tried any of the tricks to pop it out, it doesn't affect the sound so it didn't affect me. Made in 1993, sequential serial numbers. Local pickup in northwest Arkansas. Demo's welcome.
