  2. Blah, Duckburg spring weather. Snow flurries again? That stuff can quit anytime! Upgraditis @grasshopper? You know better. If it ain't broke don't fix it and to heck w/the Jone's next door. Keep an eye on that leg. Better you smelling "clinical" than me. Around here they smell ya and back up 3 feet. lol On the upside though, you and @MicroMara could be onto something. A new aftershave and body wash called "Clinical" for those that want a clean sanitary smell. Think about it. The wimmen at the bar ask what you do ya just tell 'em you're a doctor. πŸ˜‚ Had a friend back in the day who was a Panamanian dude. He was super short and thin. We'd hit a bar and he'd go work the women. I couldn't figure it out. He ALWAYS wound up w/some good lookin chick. I asked him once what he was telling them and he told me the story. They asked what he did and he told them he was a jockey. Yes Sir, talk about a wtf moment? Worked every time. Clinical has possibilities. Get outta the box. πŸ˜‚

  5. I've noticed that we aren't into upgraditis here. Pretty content with the equipment we have ... Not that we wouldn't if space and money weren't considerations ... it's kinda gray today. Almost wintry. A chance of spots on the windshield. ... and it's not warm. 60 for a high is 10`below average. I need to change the dressing on my leg. The Xeroform gauze is smelly. Very medical and it has a petroleum jelly base. Everything that it touches smells. I have to cut a piece ... so, I'm going to smell like a hospital

  9. In addition to being severe overkill, it can actually backfire on you. It is not uncommon for a Class-AB amplifier to have considerably more distortion at very low power than it does just before clipping. A fairly typical example of that is shown in Figure 3 here. With super-efficient speakers like the Jubilee, you're likely to spend nearly all of your time below 1 Watt, where distortion is at its highest. Other amplifier types may behave somewhat differently. Class-D can be better or worse, depending upon implementation. And you're probably not considering a 500 Watt Class-A amp.

  10. Can't forget this one! "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" is the title track from the 1971 album by British rock band Traffic, written by Jim Capaldi and Steve Winwood. Despite never being released as a single due to its long duration, it became a staple of North American AOR-format FM radio stations in the 1970s and still receives airplay on classic rock radio today.

  11. 75 here in Duckburg and the spring ritual has begun! My 1974 1st press of Utiopia sounds great! Todd Rundgren's Utopia is the debut album by the American rock band Utopia, released in October 1974 on Bearsville Records. The band was formed in 1973 by musician, songwriter, and producer Todd Rundgren who decided to expand his musical style by moving from pop-oriented rock towards progressive rock. He assembled a six-piece group that featured three keyboardists and toured as a live act. Most of the album was recorded in the studio except "Utopia", the opening track, which was recorded live in concert November 3rd,1973. The album peaked at number 34 on the Billboard 200 and critical reaction towards it was mixed.[4] Hair of the Dog is the sixth studio album by the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth, released on 3 April 1975. The album was recorded at Escape Studios, Kent, with additional recording and mixing at AIR Studios, London, and is the group's best known and highest selling release, with over two million copies sold worldwide.[3] After three albums with Deep Purple's Roger Glover producing, Manny Charlton stepped into that position, one he filled for several subsequent albums. Black Sabbath from 1972? You go Ozzy! πŸ˜‚πŸ’ͺ Vol. 4 is the fourth studio album by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in September 1972. It was the first album by Black Sabbath not produced by Rodger Bain; guitarist Tony Iommi assumed production duties. Patrick Meehan, the band's then-manager, was listed as co-producer, though his actual involvement in the album's production was minimal. πŸ’ͺ

  16. Hey REM... i agreed with doomsday.. i understand how u feel about the promedia malfunction when u run it.........BUT... about the malaysian thing, i was just trying to tell u that warranty issues will take some time to solve or to be clear... i am just trying to tell u to stay cool despite the frustration and dissapointment.. just send it for warranty then u will find out the truth.... in this way, u will get a new promedia and please.. think properly before u put out a reply. REM, some of your statements are really irrelevant to the topic we are discussing ... read properly before reply

  17. please go to www.3dsoundsurge.com for an article that was written to compare between sirocco and promedia v2-400. and read that and u r going to have some ideas how they performed against each other. please remember that the promedia is the older version. enjoy reading.

  18. i think u better write to the amy platt from promedia tech. anyway.. mine don't have the random noises .. my headphone jack works just fine... and do u mine to describe your problems?? what type of random noises??? and when u plug in your headphone jack, make sure u mute your speakers.. u have to mute your speakers. or else, u will think that the headphone doesn't work. cos promedia doesn't act like a midi hifi where once u plug in your headphone, it will automatically mute the whole system ..

  19. not mistaken, the satellites for quintex are made of wood or something like that, while the promedia's satellites are from plastic (if that's what klispch called them) anyway, quintext comes with ksw-10 sub with mosfet . i think definitely it will sounds better...
    1 point
  20. if u want to get a better HT system, there are better ones than quintex.. in hometheater... , quintex is only average.... even the review say so... there are other brands better than that.... at the end,,, the question will come back to " how much money are u willing to spend on your system" buying promedia 4.1 does solve your problems but not really neccessary to purchase promedia 5.1 and it also based on what u really want. .. but u cannot compare the promedia to actual HT system out there from different manufacturers....
    1 point
  21. i agreed.. that's why i jumped on paradigm.. u cannot compare to a different class .. HT paradigm compare to a promedia 4.1. cost and different class ... if a person use the HT system for pc.. he/she needs a receiver again...... and definitely it will be much better than promedia..... and the cost.. so i am happy to have the promedia.. cos i don't think i can justify the cost of my speakers to be too expensive... when compare to my entire computer system. i have no problem hooking up a amp with my computer. i have a sony va80es receiver... surrounds speakers.. but all those cables and the space.... anyway.. i LOVE promedia 4.1

  22. yeap.. i definitely agreed with what AMY said.. REM,, don't feel frustrated .. just be calm and write to amy personally........

  23. not mistaken, your ati radeon should have a software dvd player from ati themselves. and again.. ati radeon has its own hardware decoding. can someone corrects me if i am wrong? but windvd / powerdvd should be able to decode the dvd via your ati radeon decoding chip. afterall, the signal will have to go thru the radeon itself... i am not a engineer or something.. but i am trying to explain in a logical way... so in the end, the signal should be decoded by the ati hardware decoder and the software should not be having any problem projecting it in the monitor. and it is like a geforce 2 card, it has something built inside to help decoding dvd playback but it is not hardware. and ati cards have good dvd playback quality go to www.3dsoundsurge.com to read the review on phillips acoustic edge card.

  24. don't worry, be happy and enjoy.... my promedia 4.1 is blasting away happily at home.

  25. hi .. let just assume this way... a person who wants a system that solve all his headaches.... just hook it up, and it served all his purpose...... as a HT system, audio system... and convenient.. no huge speakers.. and bose provide just that... and the satellites are so small that u can stuff it at one corner and forget about it... ..aand it has enough quality to satisfy customers ... of course u cannot compare Bose to other powerful higher end models from other manufacturers. that's why Bose has its own customers and supporters. nothing sucks.... if it sucks, it will not last this long.. more than 50 years of history in making speakers .

  26. yo.. cool down REM... just follow the advice from amy.. and u have a new set. i think perhaps u have misunderstood the situation. i wrote to Amy about the 4.1 's sub problem and she told me in detail what is going on. my friend's both set of 4.1 have faulty sub problem.. and look at where i came from..under my nick, i am from malaysia... just think of my friend's frustration.. not even 2 hours running in after unpack, and the sub was a goner, and it happened twice. and he was screaming up and down.... but he got his replacement from the same dealer after a week, and now.. no problem... and AMY took the trouble of answering my mail everyday.... so cool down.. u will get a replacement.... and at least wait till they send u the replacement first before u complain.. cool down....

  36. I do it in my music room. You'll want a preamp. Adjusting volume and tone with a laptop is slow and frustrating. I feed a Mackie 402 mixer from my laptop with 1/8" headphone to phono cables. The Mackie feeds various mics and the laptop to my Yamaha receiver. It drives KG2s or Heresy IVs and sometimes a subwoofer. My audio path is all analog; the D/A voodoo is all in the laptop. The sound quality from CDs is very good. Try it, I think you'll be pleased. Some of you would be appalled at the gear The Chief uses to demo speakers in the lab, including Jubilees.

  42. Snake Eyes. Scott 299A, 22 years post NOSValves restoration. Other than biasing occasionally, nothing has been done to it. Did some "tube rolling" once to see if I was an "audiophile"...couldn't tell a difference so still just a guy that likes music. Feeding Forte IIs. Nothing to compare it to, it's all I've used since around 2002-2003.

  43. A few photos of a tube amp project completed recently. Two channels, about 20WRMS/ch into 8Ohms. Based somewhat on the Scott 299C output stage but using a solid-state, HV power supply design capable of substantially more power than is required for the push-pull 7591 pairs. Chassis CAD files were sent out for quote, the supplier (New England based) responded with pricing for larger quantities than I was considering. Placed an order for a small lot of chassis assemblies. All metal chassis assemblies are best for RFI/EMI/noise immunity. The chassis assembly is the high-cost item in the build. Uses oversized Hammond or Lundahl output transformers. Still waiting on a few finishing touches (knobs, graphics). Was considering silk screening the top plate but perhaps some other time.

  44. No. This was Steve's. This is the father to every ufo25 amp out there. This is seen in every development post photo when he was designing posting results publicly before the final version released to all. Serial number #000. Steve ate and slept with this one for a while. It's a great piece.
