  1. Those guys sure do love their measurements.
  2. Blown like voice coil burnt or locked up? Or is it a sound you're hearing? These woofers do have issues with the glue coming undone on the dustcaps, occasionally the surrounds, and also the spider. Is it just noisy?
  3. Placement as in how far apart, distance to listening spot, distance from speakers to back and side walls, toe in, etc?

    Cf-4

Everything is crazy priced anymore....new and used.
  5. One system upstairs in our new house and nothing anywhere downstairs. Unless you count a mix of 8 Google Nest Hubs and Minis in various rooms. It's nice to have gotten rid of a lot of clutter but it was fun in the earlier years.
  6. Pull the 6 rubber cups where the speaker grills attach and the screws are behind those.
  7. Well, that would be an easy trip for me since I'm just a little under 3 hours away from Hope plus access to all sorts of vehicles. Now if I can just get drawn....lol
  8. The question is....can YOU hear a difference in them or is it something that you "think" you hear a difference in them because they're slightly different?
  9. 40 point margins at sheet. I wonder what early pay term discounts were on the line back then for them. Seemed like we had close to 50 point margins on Paradigm and JBL back in that era but maybe it was less.
  10. Me personally, I'd leave the stock poly caps as they are on those and replace the electrolytics with some polyester caps and call it good. That's what was done recently on my CF-3 v1's, per Roy's suggestion, and they sound just fine. As the Chief says, it's all about the voltage transfer curve on the crossover as a whole. As far as that back panel goes, knock that joker out of there and re-attach it back in. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/159405-klipsch-epic-owners-group/&do=findComment&comment=2673811 But, regardless, I'd be glad to help out. I can wield my Hakko soldering iron no problem. lol
  11. I've got a set of CF-3 v1's that are satin black and the paint looks awful. Not scratched up really...just bad paint job. I'm going to strip the paint off, square up all corners, and re-veneer them in either ribbon mahogany, walnut, or cherry. Easy on these as there are only 3 sides to cover on each and no front facing trim. Me personally if I had your Fortes, I'd strip them and re-veneer. I'm not as much a fan of seeing all the black paint left in the grain...and especially if that's oak underneath (which I already like the least of all grains). If they weren't gouged up much, my other option would be to paint them back black. That's a black satin paint on them....not stain.
  12. Were these used as a midrange for your Klipschorns or as the whole HF section? I sometimes think I want to build a set of Jubilee clones and don't have room for 402 horns because of the sloped ceiling upstairs.
  13. Those are for the CF-2. The CF-3 & 4 take the K-63-N which I'm fortunate to own two of for my v1 CF-3's along with a "new in box" Neo 10" woofer.
  14. Someone bought them that night. Hell, I was going to make the drive and get them for the $40. I've wasted far more money on things through the years plus who knows....could have repurposed the cabinets if they were original. If not, those tops were going to come off. I could have always walked away, too.
  15. Wow....that room is about the size of our master bedroom closet (10 x 14).
  16. They couldn't sound much worse than those 2 different pairs of Altec Valencia's I had years ago.
  17. I came across this and thought.....wow. Not sure what else to say just yet. No affiliation but for $40, it's almost worth it for the cabinets...."if" they are true LS cabinets. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1006131763332511/ For posterity...
  18. I'd like to see someone else run one of those amps through testing besides Amir. Not everyone out there thinks he's the "cats meow" for testing stuff.
  19. Pretty much non-existent anymore unless someone parts out a set....but that's rare, too. I have a set of CF-3 v1's and have 2 spare HF drivers and a woofer just in case.
  20. I'm the same way with my main two pairs of speakers and especially the CF-3 v1's. I'm fortunate enough to have two of the HF drivers and a new in box woofer, although I believe it's a v3 woofer. Same goes with my ads L1230's; replacement drivers are rare and I'm glad I had the mids and tweeters rebuilt by the gentleman who used to be at ads and had all the remaining inventory of repair parts. But, those are about gone, too, over the last 30+ years. I need to send the four 8" woofers to him for cone/voice coil replacement as I have 2 that rattle. Ahhh....the fun of older speakers.
  21. Sometimes you just get more info than you need when someone else's reply gets read and they run with it.
  22. Definitely in the IV. There wasn't much improvement in the III's horn over the II, really. Unless the Heresy III horn had something magic.
