  1. It's a "pro" woofer in a smallish sized cabinet, 60hz low end is fairly typical of like speakers where design is intended to go insanely loud with low distortion. I think it would be near impossible to get 32hz at 125db out of the same woofer that belts out frequencies all the way up to 1200hz at the same output levels.
  2. Very nice, your cabinet work looks great! I use two in a vertical position and they sound great, I actually prefer them over the RB-75's.
  3. I've had those speakers before and they sound great with much better bass response than the Heresy. I thought they were somewhere in between the Heresy and forte models in terms of sound and a pretty good all around speaker. The thing is with the Tangent line is that the cabinet quality is kind of crap- very thin walled, no bracing and thin, cheap vinyl wrap finish with surface mounted drivers. All the parts are the same as in the Heresy and forte they just cheaped out on the cabinets. Those in the listing look to be in good shape but I'd try to get him way down on the price personally, maybe $350? He's asking forte prices for a lesser quality product. For what its worth I'd much rather have these T-500's than any of the KG line and they would be a good match for what you have already.
  4. Never mind, I just reread the listing and it appears you only have an extra, single k-48. Good luck with your sale!
  5. Cabinets look very nice, great job on the refinish! I'm a little confused, your listing says the woofers were re-coned but then you say the original woofers are for sale separately? I may be interested in the stock k-48 woofers if you're willing to ship them-- can you tell me if they're 4ohm or 8 ohm? Do you have pictures of the stock woofers? Thanks. Jesse
  6. Very nice, you're such a good son! If the crossovers are stock they are 30 years old and need servicing, I'd recommend pulling the crossovers out and sending them to Bob Crites for a re-cap before giving them to dad. That was a great score by the way, congrats to both of you!
  7. What I meant by same mid in the Heresy II was that it uses the same diaphragm and magnet, only the horn is different. If you've ever compared a forte I with the forte II the mids sound very close to the same, only under pretty extreme scrutiny could you tell a difference and it would be a much closer match than the Academy or any other "center" speaker.
  8. This has been brought up several times and there seems to be a group that insists that the Academy is the only acceptable center speaker for the forte / Chorus models. I have tried all of the larger center speakers and they do all sound a little bit different in their own way but I found, at least to me and strictly for movies, that the advantages of the newer / better center speakers outweigh the slight mismatch in timbre, which in fact is not even noticeable to me. Now this may not hold true for multi-channel music as I've not tried that, I run 2 channel only for music. I'd rate them in the following order: RC-7 / RC-64 II tied for best, KV-4 second place, KLF-C7 third and Academy being last choice out the ones mentioned. Have you considered a Heresy II or Quartet turned on its side? They both use the same tweeter and mid as the forte and should be a close match. That being said the RC-7's are incredible speakers, very clear, big sound that can really play loud and keep up with anything. They are also extremely good at low volumes where lesser speakers are hard to hear and muffled. My advice to you would be to look around for good deals on the speakers you want to try out and give each one a go so you can determine for yourself which one you like. If you buy right you should be able re-sell and get your money back or most of it anyway if you decide its not to your liking.

    KG-4.2

Those appear to be 4.2's-- the 5.2's have a 10" active woofer with a 12" passive where the 4.2's run the same sized woofer and passive.
  10. Excellent center speaker at a very reasonable price, good luck with your sale!
  11. Congrats! Very nice build and I'm sure they sound great. I have a pair of HIP's with the same top end and they are one of the best sounding speakers I have ever owned.
  12. I would think top price would be somewhere around $700-$750 for these given the nice condition but that's not to say someone wouldn't pay more.
  13. Have you seen his new Silver 7's? http://www.underwoodhifi.com/products/bob-carver Silver Seven 700 mono amp $32,000 a pair Each amp will produce 900 watts into 1-8 ohms and drive any speaker made. The new DC restorer circuit means that the tubes will last as long as 50 years. These new amps come with a Lifetime warranty including the tubes.
  14. Nice find, someone should jump on these! https://treasure.craigslist.org/ele/6020518775.html Chorus FB Speakers 1990 Audiophile Quality Like New Beautiful sound 450.00 pair/OBO
  15. Increasing sensitivity and lowering distortion in your system (speakers) is like zooming in on the sound with a microscope. The good gets better but the bad gets worse. It's kind of a double edged sword. Some here have gone as far as re-mastering music, I myself just listen to the bad stuff less.
  16. Wow, congrats on the new amps, those sure are purdy! I wanted a set for my Chorus II's.. maybe someday. What do you need in a pre-amp? Remote? Phono-stage?
  17. I've ran several of each on my Chorus II's but have stuck with SS over the years. A few years back I picked up a little Jolida 102 tube integrated amp at 20 watts a channel and was really surprised at how good it sounded, almost like solid state with good bass and highs with just a bit more realistic sound to it than the SS amp I was running. Back in those days I would have people over almost every weekend and would really turn the volume up at times and the 20 watts while adequate for most listening just wasn't enough for really cranking up the tunes. Kind of mystified by the Jolida but wanting a little more power I found a Melody SP-7? an EL-34 based amp at 45 watts per channel I believe? This was a totally different animal all together. The mids and soundstage were huge, larger than life with great depth and realism, almost hard to believe how good it sounded. Only draw back was the bass was actually pretty bad, very flabby without any punch and the highs seemed rolled off. It was a different sound with some really great qualities but at the end of the day I moved on. Fast forward a bit and I had moved into an apartment that had great acoustics, little bookshelf speakers almost had too much bass and it didn't take very much volume at all to fill the room. I picked up another Jolida 102 and it was absolutely perfect for my Chorus II's, I could barely turn the volume up to 11 o'clock before getting complaints from the neighbors and man it sounded great. I only stayed there for a year before moving to my old house where I had a fairly large dedicated stereo room. I was excited to set up my speakers and show off what they can do to a friend of mine and that little Jolida that had treated me so well just fell on its face. That room turned out to be a nightmare and it seen numerous equipment changes before I really got back to good sound. Right now I'm running RF-7's with 400 watts and these speakers really seem to soak up the power, not like my old Chorus II's that I use to joke around about being able to power them with a clock radio. So I guess in my limited experiences (I've had a few more tube products not mentioned) I'd have to conclude that just like most things stereo there are so many variables to consider like the model speakers you have, room acoustics and associated equipment, how loud you listen and type of music you listen to and of course personal taste. I've had great experiences with both and can see why one would choose one over the other in certain circumstances.
  18. Nice looking speakers, sure wish a pair like this would pop up close to me!
  19. Congrats on the upgrade! I recently installed the same tweeters and mid drivers in my HIP's and it made a quite noticeable difference for the better. I'm still very happy with the change months later as I'm sure you'll be.
  20. Are these new, used? Which model did they come out of and approximately how old are they? Thanks.

    Hello!

Welcome and congrats on the new KG 5.5's!
  22. Are these still for sale? Are you willing to ship? Thanks. Jesse
  23. I can't say for sure in this situation but I've found that speakers with dual woofers the drivers usually have a different ohm rating than speakers with single woofers. For example, instead of a single, 4 ohm woofer there may be two 8 ohm woofers wired in parallel to equal the same 4 ohm load. I know this is the case with the KG 5.2 / 5.5 models. EDIT: From what I've just been able to find looking on eBay at replacement parts the same is true with the KG3 / 4 models. Here's a link to a replacement driver for the KG 3: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-KG2-KG3-8-Copy-Woofer-NEW-STOCK-4-ohm-Speaker-MW5082-4-/150494160879?hash=item230a26a7ef:g:j1MAAOSwnLdWqBQe The KG 3 "copy" is listed as "4 ohm," where the same seller offers a "copy" for the KG 4 and lists it as an "8 ohm" woofer. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-KG4-8-Copy-Woofer-NEW-STOCK-8-ohm-Speaker-MW5082-8-/150494161745?hash=item230a26ab51:g:T~oAAOSwoydWqBd~ So the answer would be no, the woofers are not interchangeable, at least not without some crossover modifications.
  24. How much are these per pair if you don't mind sharing? Thanks.
