Thaddeus Smith
After spending 18 months putting a system together I find myself thinking "is it really all worth it? should I just sell and buy a decent pair of headphones and call it a day?" I dreamed that more people would be interested in sharing it with me, but I usually just listen alone. I have hobby ADHD. Does anyone else consider just scrapping all their gear, or drastically consolidating? I have the space and spousal support.. I just find myself more and more apathetic towards having a system and wonder if an inexpensive dac and some headphones dangling off my laptop aren't sufficient enough.
JL Sargent
I think most audiophiles live in circles, min to max to min in deciding whats needed for audio happiness. On the sharing thing: I installed home theater in the living room. Now, everybody HAS to enjoy it!
muel
You just haven't spent enough money yet. But seriously, you still need your setup... just enjoy having the kids come in and have a crazy dance night where you play whatever junk they like from Spotify or whatever while they dance and run around! My oldest two used to love hearing me play the Van Halen version of "Happy Trails" over and over and over again. And yes, it sounds great on Cornwalls with Jupiter caps! Oh, and I'd still get the nice headphones!

Chris A
You should seek help. I'm told that the various flavors of SSRIs work well to smooth the response. While few that visit actually appreciate the setup as it stands, of the ones that do, they clearly like to sneak in a listen without the fanfare... If you're ever through Arlington, drop in for a listen. Chris
Thaddeus Smith
not depressed, and also not manic. just wondering if it's worth all the effort to maintain a second system dedicated to music.
Chris A
"second system dedicated to music". I agree - do one right and forget the second.

Thaddeus Smith
You will never find true happiness in audio until you spin some wax. I'm not trying to find happiness in audio. Maybe that's the problem entirely..

Thaddeus Smith
Indeed. Maybe I'll put some feelers out in the Garage Sale section tonight to see how crazy I am.

Schu
Simple answer... NO, a pair of headphones dangling off your laptop is not enough. HOWEVER, if you are asking this question, for you perhaps it is enough.
Thaddeus Smith
Remember that I'll still have a pair of Heresy 2's with a very nice sub in the house at my disposal. My wife refuses to let me change that setup at all.

Dr Morbius
"just wondering if it's worth all the effort to maintain a second system dedicated to music" My 2 cents is ……YES……unless your wife or family likes the same exact music you do.
