Just something to give some thought to

People never cease to amaze me.

I just read a post on this site where people were dogging the Beatles. And there was a lot of dogging going on.

For those of you who are Beatles haters. My response is, in the movie White men cant jump there was a statement made,

When you get a chance sit down and listen to one of the above artist, listen to the music don't converse with a friend, just sit and listen and do nothing else.

Bottom line is ,listen to the music without distraction, maybe one day  you will be able to hear it.

People who dog the Beatles = not truly listening to music. Your words, not mine.

So you assume that people whose opinion differs from your own simply aren't listening "the right way"?

My dad says this same stuff with weird folk'ish artists like Neil Young. 95% of it just sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Then he will dismiss the Foo Fighters as amateurs, doesn't appreciate the talent of Flea whatsoever... in fact the entire 90's was this giant musical void. Actually its probably more like 1980 through today actually, like starting the day the Eagles broke up.

There's some stuff I don't like no matter how many times I listen to it (even with out distraction).  Appreciating what someone does and liking it can be two different things.

I tried to force myself to be a coffee connoisseur because everybody at work was into it. I drank the stuff every day for 6 months. Afterwards, it still tasted like burnt sticks dissolved in water.

If Harrison wasn't a genius, then Genius  don't exist.

My family is from England, I've been told he was something like my 5th cousin but I can't prove it. His sister lived near me for awhile. Kept meaning to try to meet with her but never did. Last I heard she was like living in a trailer park in southern Illinois managing a Beatles tribute band.

“Somebody said to me, 'But the Beatles were anti-materialistic.' That's a huge myth. John and I literally used to sit down and say, 'Now, let's write a swimming pool.”

Hey Groovy, you may listen to music, but you didn't do such a good job reading, yes reading , my posts about the (Dung)Beatles, which are primarily focused on the never ending commercialism of what I perceive to be a mediocre band.

In ten years here I've knocked maybe two pieces of music, The Bland(les) and Tiny Tim. Well, except for rap, not to be confused with go-go or Funk.

I have literally authored dozens upon dozens of threads to get  people to spend time sharing music, musical tastes, and musical finds.

After all why get gear, talk about gear, upgrade gear, if not to listen to music?

For two years I gave away Klipsch t-shirts paid for out of my own meager funds from housepainting  ( a less than lucrative trade), to gin up participation in the now defunct "Members Weekly Musical Recommendations " thread.  I started the "Right This Minute" thread to get folks to share which, and that effort has spread to other internet venues like Audiokarma.

So if I feel like comparing the mop tops treacle to the same feeling I get when I lose bladder control, I'm gonna do it.

Besides if you like rock why are you upset about my characterizations about a pop band?

Hey it's Christmas evenin gents, Time for feelin some real groovin:

Apparently, you didn't know that, by and large, it IS burnt sticks dissolved in water.  Sheesh...  Be informed before you imbibe.

Music is what you make of it. There are some major bands I do not listen to.... I just don't enjoy their sound. Don't feel I need to name them. I like everything from classical to Country ..... I draw a line at rap. I guy I work with gave me a CD of a classical artist he uses to test all the speakers he buys..... He doesn't own any horns... Mostly

all J_L..... I just couldn't get into it.... Gave it back to him the very next day.... Also gave him my copy of Brothers in Arms and said use this from now on instead.

We all have different taste in music...... Mine is just better than his

Music is subjective---I like what I like and not what you like---no matter how I listen to it.

Being a musician--I know HOW to listen and if it doesn't turn me on--it's not my cup-o -tea---MAN.

I'm Right and You're wrong.

And even though I'm almost 60--I'm groovy man.

Ask any of my brothers--I'm Off the Chain.

I learned that you can't come to a speaker forum and tell people

their music sucks--even tho it does--they like it--it makes the world go round.

If that thought were extended to the rest of the world beyond a speaker forum, there would be world peace.

Haven't researched it, but didn't John Lennon say the Beatles were more popular than Jesus Christ. Come on now, that's just stupid.

On a positive note:

I got to 2nd base with my girlfriend in high school listening to "The long and winding road". Now that's gotta be worth something right there.

Merry Christmas!

Alvin Lee is awesome. He helped his pal George out a time or two by joining in.

The Beatles are right up there with the Beach Boys, Barbara, Michael Jackson, Whitney, Beyonce and every other giant POP act. You can have 'em.

Give me the Stones, Ten Years After, Buddy Guy, and a 1,000 other bands if it is nuances you are really looking for.

He did. He said it in an interview several months before it hit the media in the US.
